[Q] Restore Kies backup file with other sw? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently backed up everything in the Note 2 with Kies, & it worked without glitches.
However, when I restore backup afterwords, the option to restore call log is greyed.
So my question is; could there be another sw letting me restore the "callog.bk"...?
I know, I shouldn't have had anything to do at all, with the crappy Kies sw.
Grateful for any kind of hints, in the right direction!

Edit:
Solved the issue by uninstalling all of Kies sw.
Then installed an older version that u can find
here.
Now my call logs are back, and I promise never
to use Kies crap again. There are other sw....

How to backup apps

I have like more than 50-55 apps installed and I wanna flash my phone to a new firmware but don't wanna lose out on the apps.
Reinstalling them from the app store will be a long and tedious process. So can I back them up and restore them just like Contacts?
I have one more doubt. Earlier whenever I have shifted from one bada 2.0 firmware to other, never have I been able to restore all my messages successfully. I had backed them up via Kies and on my memory card too but when I restored them only 20-25 were restored. So I'll be happy if someone can help me on this issue too.
Thanks.

[Q] TWRP problem with Copilot & Whatsapp

I made a nandroid backup with TWRP, it backed up fine and restores fine, but 2 of my apps Copilot and Whatsapp don't work properly after the restore, I have to re-verify Whatsapp because it thinks it's on another device, a message says that it can only be installed on 1 device per phone number, and Copilot just tries to start up and then dies, the only way I can fix it is to delete it's sd card folder first, then it opens and has to be set up and maps downloaded again as if it were a new install, so it looks like that also thinks it's on another device.
When restoring I clean/delete everything first, (factory reset/system/cache/dalvik cache), as I have always done, had no problem with doing this on my last phone (Galaxy Nexus), also using TWRP, and with 2 other phones (Galaxy S2 and HTC Desire), both with CWM.
Has anyone else expereienced this ?, I suspect there's other apps out there that will do it as well, it seems to me that the device id is changing, but then Titanium backup would recognize that and offer to restore it, so there must be something else that's either not getting backed up or not getting restored or both.
I was thinking of switching to CWM and trying that but thought I'd ask on here first, because I don't want to switch unless I really have to, so any idea's comments would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Dave.

[Q] Upgrading to 5.0 - Backup does not work

Hey guys.
I recently upgraded to lollipop, but most of my apps were crashing and everything was sluggish, so i did a factory reset. I noticed that before the actual update, there was a forced backup. When i try to restore the backup, it goes to 100% and after a moment fails completely. I had all my 2-step verification keys in there, which are really hard to remove from accounts when lost.
LG Support did nothing for me. After they "consulted with technician", i received a reply in which they explained that they can't do anything for me.
Should i try to rollback to KitKat? Is there any way to recover my things or extract important stuff from that backup?
Thank you, Martin.
Any ideas?

Backup and Restore

Hello,
I am a screen issue with my Note 4 that requires me to replace my unit. In the past I have usually used TWRP to create a backup and they restore my phone on the new device. This note 4 is non rooted and does not have a custom recovery install. What would be the best method to perform a backup and restore where it either takes a current snapshot of my files, settings and applications so I can avoid redoing everything on my replacement unit? Thanks.
I *think* the best option is to use Helium but I'm not sure how much it'll backup without being rooted. I'll leave this for other people to chime in but I think you can looking at that app as well as "My Backup Pro".

I use Backup Message & Call to Email by Lucky Dog from the Google Play store (it is FREE). This can backup your call history and SMS/MMS messages either instantly or on demand. You can then restore them to a new phone.
You can also set up your photos to backup to Google+ (either automatically or on demand).
There are a lot of sync options using Google and you android phone that make it a breeze to switch from phone to phone.

Does Kies also back up app settings?
I'm looking for something to at least use until we can get root again and use Titanium.
Kies has come a long way since v1. I hated kies up until v2.5 but since then it doesn't freeze up nor eat all the available ram on your computer while running.
Kies is the best backup system available for nonrooted sammy phones.

Problem on restore contacts from Kies3 after CM12

Hi guys, I've made a terrible mistake.. please forgive me for that.. I relied on Kies (((
Thank you really a lot for your support! I really don't know who I can ask else about my problem..
I have a S4 mini and as beginner (for Android) I decided to upgrade it with CM12 and Lollipop 5.1, all worked fine but:
As I dis always with Nokia, I was confident that a backup manager from the brand-house was the best way to backup, save for the future and manage contacts in our PC, I installed the first manager it appear to me as "it", Kies 3.2. It worked because the previous FW was 4.2, it asked to upgrade to Smart Switch but I refused to do, wtf I just needed save the contacts... and I couldn't suppose how "complicate your life" are these uncomplete softwares.
After upgrade Kies showed that with new FW I need to upgrade to Smart Switch and after Smart Switch showed that this phone is not compatible (????). Trying use Kies 2.6 to open manualli the file spb (to export them on vcf) it can't read the spb file made by Kies 3.2.. (???) and opening with hex editor the spb file itself I saw it is encrypted/compressed and impossible to extract manually any information. Wow!
Now how can I restore contacts?? Smart Switch doesn't start without a phone connected (and by the way, I also don't know if it has a contact manager in the end!), the phone with it doesn't work (maybe bcause it founds an unbelievable Lollipop on a S4 mini?), as i searched there are no android applications who can read/load spb or other Windows external softwares..
How could I extract the contact names from this .spb now?
Any chance to make Smart Switch see the phone?
Thank you a lot!
If I was in your position I would restore the phone to the old firmware you were using before, and then restore contracts back, then use "another" software to backup contacts. Then once you have a "fresh" backup, then install cm12 back again.
Sounds long but it's all I personally can think of. If files are encrypted nothing but the original software will open them...
Thank you for reply.
I have some questons. Is it possible that spb made by Kies 3.2 can't be read on 2.6? Does it has sense?
If I'll use another samsung phone, can I restore there the backup and save contact from that one?
There is any way to force Smart switch to connect to a CM12 device?
I already configured it and start from the beginning may kill me :/
Thank you!
To shorten the prosedure and keep your current installation intact. Isnt a solution to make a nandroid backup of current cm12.1 in the recovery. Install an old kitkat version, restore your contacts etcetera. Sync them to gmail. Then restore your nandroid and sync with Gmail?
