how to increase Ram on SGG
i googled and got to know that for swapping we need a custom kernal
i am using GENXT ODEX ROM 4.1.2, which kernal will be available for my phone...??
what are alternate solutions for increasing my RAM..??

You can not increase your RAM. It's tied to hardware, so unless you're skilled enough to mess with the phone's electronic board, it is not possible.
If you're talking about internal memory (sdcard0) there are many ways to free up some space in it, one of them is using Link2SD. You don't need a custom kernel, you just need to repartition your SD card.
have you heard swapping

have you heard of swapping...!!
with the help of swapping we can increase RAM from MMC
swapping cannot be done on default kernal.....hope u know that
Download An app,Ram expandar. It doesn't actually increase the ram instead, uses some of part of your sd card (swaping) as virtual ram.
Nonetheless there's always an option of downloading ram boosters

Alright I just read some old threads about this... It basically involves creating a swap partition on the SD card and use it as a secondary memory aside from RAM... It's similar to pagefile in Windows and swap partition in Ubuntu/Linux desktop.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
It will decrease your SD card life though (and probably damage/corrupt it) because SD cards are not designed for frequent and temporary read and write, it has limited read and write lifetime, while with the RAM this RW lifetime is much better than SD card.
Also, from what I'm seeing so far... swapping is more suitable for old Android versions (2.3 or lower) with low RAM (256 MB or lower). Android 4.0+ has improved memory management and there's really no need for a swap partition, thus why you more likely need a task killer on older Android (2.3-), but it is not recommended to use one on newer Android (4.0+). Even Kitkat runs fine on a 512MB device.
What sort of memory-eating app are you planning to use on your phone?

Adding a swap partition is not preferable because SD cards have slower R/W speeds compared to RAM, even if you have a class 10. And a "class 10" card means it has the best R/W speed, but it doesn't mean having longer R/W life.
Actually high RAM usage on Android is not always bad. Some parts of the RAM is used for caching so that you will run the apps faster compared to not having the cache. This is similar to the SUPERFETCH on Windows Vista and up. RAM usage does not always mean worse battery life, but CPU usage does.
Also... have you tried Greenify and see if it helps? Also if you can live without dual SIM, try one of the Kitkat ROMs, it removed lags completely for me.
Ok no problem!
By the way, which phone do you have?
You can easily flash an older or newer Kernel or maybe a custom one,for your phone,if you have a Sony Smartphone then flash through flashtool
Note:flashing Kernel doesn't wipe any data
Currently we don't have a swap supported kernel

Hi,
as everybody have noticed Samsung has integrated into their firmwares 3 storage locations:
System storage (1GB)
USB storage (or internal SD card) (1.7GB)
SD card (or external SD card) (up to 32GB)
A way how to swap USB storage and SD card is already given.
Like most of you gamers have already noticed, the memory of the internal SD card is often too small to download big games (like NFL 2012, Real Football 2012, etc.)
I know there are ways how to swap or use apps to swap temporarily the directions.
But I want a permanent solution with full capability of storage usage.
So here is what I would like to do:
Change the storage to:
System storage (2,7GB)
SD card (up to 32GB)
So basically extend the system storage and delete the USB storage. Than swap the internal SD and external SD card.
Advantages:
Media Server will only have to search one direction(physical SD card)
Only 2 main directions
SD card direction IS a physical SD card.
SD card, if class 10, is quicker than the internal storage(for apps).
Hope someone can help.

Sounds like a good plan.....I never can understand the Samsung memory/storage layout..... even for app devs deciding on /sdcard as default data store.....Samsung just breaks defaults.
Has your plan been tried on any other Samsung model.....or other Androids with the same Internal/External layout??

Yes thats the plan :-D. But I have no clue about the internal restrictions of Android and the Samsung firmware.
I think if the extension of the system storage would work, than all we have to do is swap internal and external sd card. And keep the small internal(former internal sd card) partition unmounted.
BTW: My system storage has almost full. 850MB/1.07GB

I hve no idea too bro...can't help..
Many new devices around here use this three layer storage...
But,what I thought ,when we succes do this..there's no need to swap I think..

Only Problem is, if the game is bigger than the internal sd space, you won't be able to download to sdcard. Because the procedure is like this:
Download game to internal SD -> move downloaded files to external SD
So you SD card has to be always free, unless you want to use the swap temporarily.

I'm here!
From a full firmware I just figured out that we don't need Kernel source because the ext4 kernel modules are already inside the Stock kernels (really good news)...
Now I'm dealing with the AOSP mkbootimg tool, used to repack the boot image after tweaking it...
It seems that they use a slightly modified one (? it should not occurr)...
I find two main differences... the first one is Solved... I can patch the mkbootimg code myself to use it...
The second one is related to 2 hex pages (4096 * 2 byte) of code at the end of the boot image that I cannot handle...
...anyway I don't know how to handle it...
Actually I cannot test modded images myself (I don't own a I8150) and could be dangerous to ask somebody else to do it for me...
Two questions to you:
1) Your Galaxy does have a fixed partition table, right? just to exclude that those codes are sizes and addresses of system parts... (this could be easy for us)
2) can you post me the output of the command (from adb shell or terminal emulator)
# busybox ls -l /dev/block/
while you have the sdcard slotted in?
After that I can prepare a boot image smaller (and NOT tweaked yet) just to not overwrite the code "I don't know what it is"...
but it's up to you to test for it...
...maybe it could not work...
...I will couple the repacked boot image with the original one, anyway, just to revert easy to it in case of troubleshootings...
but I repeat... it's up to you...

Hey guys any news on this? I think another good reason for this is that it will hopefully increase the amount of ram available, at this minute I have 87 mb free And hardly any apps open. So any news on this as it would be really helpful?

As far as I understood this solution would let you better use your memory card and system/app space, but I don't think it would increase at all the amount of RAM available, unfortunately...
Anyway, yeah, keep us posted thanks!

Unfortunately not. Not sure what the reason was, but there was a misunderstanding and after that there was no further reaction from the developer. I guess it was not possible.

Hey,
xperia arc memory is only 320 MB
and LINK2SD method is make my app start slow and not smoothly at all, so is there any way better than these ?
My arc is stock ICS rooted, stock kernel
Hi,
The only other way is to use apps2sd. Though this only moves some apps to the sd card, and you will still end up having problems with space.
Link2SD is the best option. If it's running slow, get a faster class card like a class 6 or class 10
just Flash Arc S FTF,
u Will Get 420 MB Internal Space.
Problem Solved
with titanium backup, you can move apps to the system rom, using free space that other ways gets wasted.

There is a new way to increase internal memory. AD2SDX.
here is the thread for the AD2SDX: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18561098
and in that thread one person has claimed it is better than Link2SD.
I want to do it..but i am searching if anyone has tried it first.
Hello,
I have read about many scripts such as V6 Supercharger, Link2SD or Ram Manager, yet with opinions differing of their effects on performance, effectiveness or battery life.
So I just want to know from you, what of these scripts do you use and what of these are actually increasing performance or battery life?
Thanks!
Because of lower internal memory, we partition sd card e.g 2 GB card into 256 sd ext and remaining "fat"
( for storage )
Ext partition is like added to internal memory. Even if u connect your phone with computer, u can see only "fat" partition which is the storage.
U cannot see ext partition when usb connected so all your apps on sd ext will still run.
The benefit of this is to move apps to sd ext and free up internal memory. For this we download link2sd app from play store.
Partition of sd card is usually done via CWM.
I would recommend u to do this if you install alot of apps.
Others like v6 supercharger are scripts but not proven really. And ram manager is a different thing. No use i'd say.

Thank you for your opinion. So basically the optimisation should be left to the ROM rather than to any custom script which do not really improve anything?

Hey guys, i bought my Galaxy Grand a few days ago and i'm a bit confused with some things.
First of all, i really need to root my phone to move large apps to my SD card?
There is any side effect of using the method mentioned before in this forum? (ext2int if i'm not wrong)
Now i'm using a small sd card (4gb, but i'm going to buy a 16gb class 10 soon), if i change my internal storage to use my sd card i'll still be able to install things into the phone memory?
Could someone point out a tutorial please.
And about rooting, i saw to methods here in the forum, wich one is the best?
There is any difference between the firmware for GT - I9082 and GT - I9082L when trying to flash a pre rooted one?
Last question, i tried the epic citadel benchmark in my phone and a lot of artifacts showed up in my screen, it is a problem with my phone or its application fault?
Thanks in advance.
i rooted mine right after it arrived. i did not use ext2int after all. i find it rather confusing that i cannot replace my sd card.
i am finde with the internal memory. even after installing some bigger games. so i cannot comment on the advantages disadvantages.
i can tell you to not take the 9082L versions if you are having a 9082 phone.
the rooting method in this forum works fine and is not harming your phone.

1.Yes, your phone HAS to be rooted to move apps.
2. NO side effects, just swaps your int and ext memory so i reccomend a 32 gb ext sd card.
3. For example,In large games, the data will be stored in android/data which is in the phone memory. But after swapping, your phone memory size will be of the size of your sd card, so no issue of space.
4. Rooting- USE CHOTU'S GUIDE(SEARCH THE FORUM)
Rom- k2wl or balli's rom(SEARCH THE FORUM).

May I answer you? He suggested the 2 deodexed roms if you are interested on flashing mods. Just having root is enough for using ext2int or titanium backup for example but you need deodexed to use mods.

Hi Guys
Today i read the specifications of my device and i have read two things
1- RAM 1GB but my device read it 804MB!!! and also my brother have Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 have 824MB!! WHY?
2- The Internal Memory 8GB but my device is 4GB!!! WHY?
Thanks
Out of 8gb half is occupied by android system to run and for ram its somewhat hidden like if buy a 16 memory card but u will get 14.5gb something like that
Sent from my GT-I9082
The internal memory of 8GB is not fully user available because Android OS and files take up about half of it. So availability for user is near about 4GB. You can root and remove bloatware to increase internal memory if you want. Alternatively you can swap int/ext memory. Changing file systems and partition size is beyond the scope of this discussion
A part of the 1GB RAM is required to run the Android OS in itself so you will never get fully free 1GB RAM. Again, removing unnecessary apps, especially apps which start on boot, can increase RAM. And RAM has nothing to do with SDcard / external storage capacity unless it is required to initialize and run the card itself
You can Root your phone and download system app remover and uninstall system apps which you don't use!
