I feel that Android 4.4.2 causes lag on my Nexus 7 due to the fact that this is my second Nexus 7 (2013) and I'm still having a bit of touch screen issues. It's nothing TOO major, but it's still VERY noticeable. Typing is smooth, but some apps when I'm in them don't always respond to my touch.
I'm hoping a custom ROM or whatever could fix this such as something like Cyanogenmod.
I'm sort of new to this whole thing so please make the steps as simple as possible on how to install this on my tablet.
How is an app being lagy the fault of Android? I had an app or two that were not living up to expectations so I replaced them and miraculously the issue disappeared

I've been noticing it on almost all of my apps.
What apps did you have an issue with?
- Also, reverting back to my original question I'd like to stay on topic.
I only really had problems with Tweetings, switched to Talon, this is on Cyanogen Nightlies on my One, on my N7 I've had no issues with lag. The easiest way to get Cyanogen on your tablet is to use the installer, that's what I used because I was being lazy, them manually updated to the CM11 nightlies

Can you provide me a link to this? And is it basically just a "download and run" type of app?
You need the app on your phone and PC, there is also a Mac beta, and just follow the instructions, there's a link for it on the main Cyanogen site cyanogenmod.org

I recommend ranking the N7 specific forum on the site for any quirks there might be before running the installer since you are new to this, don't want to soft brick it by accident

How would I install this? Also, do I install it after or before the CM install?
Or is gapps included in the install for CM?
Gapps is supplid as a seperate download on the CM website, it's not included in CM rom. And no, Gapps is not required, I dont use it.
i recommend u to use this custom rom. its really great, smooth

You'd have to teach me how to install it the correct way.
Step by step, lol.
the easiest way to install cyanogenmod is using cyanogenmod installer. You can find this app through xda forum or search on google

Just download factory image for your device from google site if you want to back to stock or maybe you want to try custom rom from cyanogenmod and aokp. They are the famoust cusrom with great feature and stability.
I would recommend paranoid android along with trinity kernel and twrp recovery
If you need to know what to do, there are plenty of resources and youtube videos to guide you,

Or you can pm me and ill try to help as best as I can.. As I have done this myself and been running paranoid android and trinity as a daily rom for the last 2 months now, and it's been rock stable, im even underclocked at 1ghz with no slowdowns or performance loss

Follow the sticky on flashing a factory build onto your device. Try stock for a while. You won't have problems like this and you won't have to use the search button.

So I have been really wanting to run MIUI but but I'm on 4.2.2. I would greatly appreciate if someone could educate me on downgrading to 4.1.2 but with the ability to go back to 4.2.2 with no problem. Thanks in advance.

What are you running now? Stock? Are you unlocked and have a custom recovery? If so, just make a backup of your current Rom, give MIUI a shot, and if you don't like it, restore your backup.
If you are still on stock, you need to unlock and install a custom recovery. This will delete what you have on your phone, so backup any pictures, texts, etc. There is a guide in the forum. I'll paste it in another post.
Good luck.
Am I missing anything guys?

I attempted to do so but since I rarely post on XDA I did not have sufficient privileges to post onto the Android Development forums. I was advised to ask either here or the general questions portion.

Fair enough. Now when you say "previous versions" are you referring to previous 3.4 versions before the CM display driver merges or the versions based off Linux 3.0?

The change log shows Linux 3.0.XX. Specifically needed is the version under change log 03/14/2013 or if available any before that date. Must be for JELLYBEAN TOUCHWIZ. The newer versions have been very unstable with my rom. (DarthStalker X2) I had previously formatted my SD by accident and lost all my downloads. Currently running the stock kernel but it's weaksauce after being spoiled by Ktoonez goodness. Been searching for an older version for about 2 weeks now so it can play nice with my rom again. *sigh*

Great question. I'm curious if it has "Suspend Actions (power saving mod)". I've been trying to find a 4.4 rom with this feature.
Can anyone please check if you are able to change the camera storage in the camera settings?
Very stable for the most part! Cheers!

Seems any kitkat ROM I flash, I get an error. This AOKP and CM11. Do I need to update my bootloader?
Might be because my phone is registered as an at&t s3. Guess the slimbean ROM I installed did that. It did say for tmo & at&t but registered as at&t. Hmm ::scratches head::
Edit. Complete wipe and installed stock rooted but still no luck. Anyone?

Using Phils advanced custom version of CWM recovery did the trick. I guess TWRP is the cause but Phils version can be found here -> http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http...ip&h=XAQFMb4tC

2-16 nightly
Didn't see it on their website ,but I downloaded 2-16 nightly from goo. I dont have time to play today, but i flashed it for a few minutes just to see if ribbons were back. They are:good:
Miracast?
I wonder if Miracast works yet on AOKP 4.4 yet. I can't connect to my PTV3000 with ANY KitKat rom. AOKP 4.3 works great, though. I'm going to try the 2-16 build in a few minutes...
UPDATE: Nope, it still doesn't work. Latest CM11 Nightly (2-18) doesn't work either.
Hi guys! I'm totally in love with my nexus 7 2013, but I don't understand why we still don't have the miui rom. If we do, I did not find it. Even the previous nexus 7 has this rom available. So sad

I would like it too, but I think miui isn't very interested in tablets.
Who knows, someone might be able to do a good job porting. Maybe would need resizing and stuff, but nothing is impossible.

MIUI doesn't have a native tablet UI, so any port would look rather strange on the Nexus 7. Maybe in the near future when MIUI makes a tablet they would have a tablet UI then.
The MIUI ports for the Nexus 7 2012 have all been discontinued long ago.
I love MIUI and wish it would be available on Nexus 7 but unfortunately that doesn't seem likely.
MiHome isn't compatible with Nexus 7.
I tried porting it but they don't have any 4.3 compatible files. If I had a 4.2 ROM it would work but that doesn't exist as this device was released with 4.3.

how to install?using cwm recovery?simply wipe everything and then flash it?
as far as I know miui v5 is still jb build, kitkat is v6 miui which not release yet, don't even know if the v6 is already work on progress yet..
I have unlock, root stock 4.4.2 already,if I try this v5 miui would it be a downgrade?is it okay to downgrade?
edit : maybe you see their weekly build code, miui roms update every week and they name it by the date,it's 4.3.14 so the 14 means the day of release,3 means month, not sure for the 4 at the first code means..maybe the code for android base version 4..cmiiw
Best way to install is to utilize multirom and install as secondary ROM on internal storage, that way you won't need to downgrade your ROM you have now and you can still use miui and try it out just check it out its in the original Dev section here

ok multirom makes dual boot easy, even a noob can do it, so long as you know how to flash in a custom recovery
here is the thread for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2457063
and \what even better is if you download the app from play store (also called multirom) then you can setup multirom right there with the app
and as for dual boot its super easy after multirom is setup reboot recovery
go to advanced/multirom
add rom make sure internal storage is selected (dont have an otg connected storage device) do not share kernel and android are selected
hit next
find the zip
swipe to install after install reboot
before entering a rom itll give you a menu to select a rom, shoose the one you just installed and hit boot
and there you have it,
also to setup multi rom with the app just have root (su) and select the three first checkboxes they should be
1. multirom
2. recovery
3. kernel with support
and then hit the button below them and itll download some files and after a bit ask to reboot recovery press ok
then reboot recovery and follow steps above
i have my nexus 7 2013 running 7 roms via multirom and external storage devices
if you feel this is too complicated then i guess try to revert to stock (*same android version as miui) and flash from there? i havent downgraded on this device, i know with multirom it doesnt really matter what android version the different roms are, thats why i suggested it
