Whenever I use emoji in the latest beta version of SwiftKey the first emoji always uses up 92 characters of my text message. After that emoji 's only take up 1 to 2 characters. This wouldn't be a problem normally as I have unlimited texts, but my phone turns extra long messages into MMS messages which I have to pay for.
Anyone else have this problem and now a work around?

Have figured it out. You have to go into SMS settings then under 'text input' scroll down to input mode and choose 'unicode' or 'gsm alphabet'.

Can someone tell me why when i send a text over 160 characters it sends it multiple messages. I can receive long text messages but cant send them. On CM7 and other sense 2.0 roms i was able to do this
Sometimes its just the way its coded. I never really noticed it on mine but if you use handcent it works perfectly

I've always had my messages split up when they were over 160 characters :/
This is intended. There is a 160 character limit on text messages. Some apps cut you off of typing at 160, others just use multiple texts... it depends. If you have a limited # per month plan, a 161 character text will count as 2.
Hello. I think the most of you know this problem. If I write long SMS, my Nexus automatically turns SMS to MMS . For me is that a problem, because I want that my Nexus split my long text in several SMS and not in one MMS. I couldn't find a solution for this problem. At the time I use Handcent. Is there any solution in work?

I have the opposite issue. My long SMS are automatically splited in multiple SMS messages but I would prefer to be converted to MMS .... I guess you make some app installed that is doing this conversion to MMS. If you figure out the app please let me know
Jake
Any SMS bigger than 160 * 3 chars is converted in MMS by stock Message app.
Handcent has an option for this in the settings menu.
Yes, Handcent solves this issue. On the other hand, I noticed Handcent is horribly laggy when typing an answer to a received message straight from in (what I call) notification-dialogbox-view (not the fullscreen app).
Is a patched sms/mms stock app with some kind of added sms splitting patched feature anywhere to be found ?
By the way, a little offtopic, do any of you guys know if there is a black-background stock sms/mms app floating around ?
many thx in advance
I instaled RC8.1 few days ago and I for me everything works perfect but i notice that when typing long SMS messages instead of merging them in 2/3/.../6 sms messages it makes it a MMS after 160 characters. I looked in settings for a solution but i couldn't find it, is there any way to change that or I will have to separate messages manualy?
Also some times it just keep "sending" message.
with this release my phone sometimes don't receive all the messages......someone else have this problem?
I think I received all messages, but some of them wouldn't send it just say sending and leave it that way...
As far as I remember, since first release of CM10.1 long messages are converted to MMS by default, and there's no option to change it to multiple SMS
See in mms settings. Or just install other sms app (slide messaging shoud do the trick) and change there. This will fix the problem.

Thanks, I will check that app later
Thx, i'll try that
Btw any news about not sending some messages?
I'm using GO SMS PRO with the emoji pack on my unrooted GNex.
Just now, I started getting this popup after each text I send:
"GO SMS Emoji Plugin is sending a large number of SMS messages. Do you want to allow this app to continue sending messages? Allow/Deny"
I have to select Allow every time I try t send a message... Very frustrating. Not sure what's going on... Anyone seen this before?
Before I switched to sprint I had used T-Mobile LG G3. The default messaging app split long text messages into two or three, and I received long messages in similar chunks. But I used the Textra messaging app and it ceased to do that. Long messages sent as one as well as receiving 500+ character text.
Now, being with sprint the problems have re-appeared and I an unable to fix it. Textra does not change the sms limits so I send multiple text to friends and likewise with receiving. This is not a huge issue just a major inconvenience and a nuisance.
Are there setting I'm messing, apps that will help, anything i can do to keep long message as one? Please and thank you for your help.
I think it's a Sprint issue. I've been with them for a long time and always remember this happening. However, if there is a fix, I'd love to know it also.

Sprint has the 160 character limit for SMS texting. If you want to text longer messages as a single message, you either need to use an instant messaging app like Google Hangouts (though those require the recipient to also have the messaging app), or find a texting app that can convert long messages to MMS if it goes past the 160 character limit. These solutions will convert the SMS to MMS or other forms of data, though, so just be aware of that if you have some sort of data limit.
If the converting SMS to data is not a viable solution, a quick google search revealed this app: BigSMS, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skezza.main&hl=en.
It supposedly can make long texts, but I have never used it myself, so I can't comment on if it works or not.

As I said before, I used Textra in the past and my messages were sent as one and I received long messages as one. I recently downloaded EvolveSms which fixed the issue of my messages being split by converting them into MMS (which i have no problem with at all) but I still got 4 separate chunks of their message. I know there's an option to reassemble split messages but it seems to not be working. I'll go to a sprint store to see if there's an issue there or not.

Ok, Good luck with with the Sprint customer rep. The split SMS thing never bothered me since I've been on Sprint for a very long time. However, I did a quick google search, and it does seem like some devices have native support for recombining received SMS messages, like the Sprint Galaxy S 5, so it does look like it can work. Hopefully they can do it on the G4 as well.
