[Q] Adblock and age restrictions question on Galaxy Tab 3 - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am interested in buying Galaxy Tab 7 3.0 for my son, he has been using playbook until know, which he enjoys but the lack of games and application is forcing him to spend his time on youtube.
On stock youtube app on playbook, there are no video commercials, it somehow skips those.
If I buy a Tab 7 3.0 is there anyway to a) Install adblock plus to get rid of video commercials and b) is there anyway to set age restriction so kids won't watch weird videos that always happen to pop in "related" column or at the end of video.

You can root and use adaway. It works on YouTube really well. I think you can change the settings on YouTube to it will filter for age restrictions.
Thanks,
Levi Woodard

Thank you.
There are no special editions or model numbers I should be avoiding, right? Is there any "unrootable" version like an OTA or an update I should avoid?
Thanks!

I have a 210r from best buy that sells for 150 and I laid out 40 for a belkin case. I am happy with it I am rooted but I am looking at a to right now to test.

Awesome, so T210 is a good one to get, right?
I am looking into purchasing this:
Mfr Part #:
SM-T210RGNYXAR
UPC:
887276851280
I guess it is the same rootable model. Which root method would you recommend? I don't really need anything fancy, sure I can understand a custom rom would make this run a lot faster, but I was wondering if I should look for a debloat rom or some other custom rom.
Thanks again for your replies.

I used a prerooted file that works pretty well.. It does take a while to flash though.

I will pick it up this weekend and come back to get root info.

I have been using S.E.A.L. rom for a few days and would recommend that over the preroot method.

I feel the same way. The stock ICS seems to be a lot faster than the MCR's at the moment - not sure why.
The only reason to root is to get things such as Ad Free, Full Backups, Underclock CPU when screen off, Apply Paul's UI tweaks.
Obviously things will grow in the future. If you do it now, then you dont risk the chance of losing the ability to in the future (doubtful that will ever happen with a Nexus)

Is it possible to connect a PS3 controller and play games with current devices today? If yes, could you point me to the application
I will only root if a kernel with ridiculous battery life surfaces. Otherwise this may be the first Android phone I really see no reason rooting. Strange thought.

AdFree is pretty silly IMO. Blocking connections using the host file? Really? I guess the creators don't know what a firewall is or how to use iptables.

New to Samsung ...which Rom should I use?

What's up everyone, new to this forum, have had my phone for a little bit now, and need some tethering for my HP tablet with android. So its time to root!
I was looking at some of the Rom's and thought I'd get some of your opinions.
I like stock, but battery life is important and speed, any suggestions?

Disadvantages of Rooting the "G.nexus"?

hi guys, i'm wondering about the Disadvantages of Rooting the specially G.nexus ?
thanks
If you know what you are doing or have the ability to read carefully... none, it's a amazing thing!!! Your phone will be a Lion among a herd of yaks.
If you do not posses either of those two things, it's scary bad. I'm not trying to be mean but thats the honest truth. I have rooted peoples phones for them and some left to their own devices have managed to make their phones slower and laggier than stock ever good be with many things not working or barely working. It's usually they skipped a step or changed a setting they shouldn't have.
Why the double thread?

Some people like stock devices.
1.) You'll never be happy with an unrooted phone ever again.
2.) Your friends will be like "Can you show me how to root?"
Only ones I can think of.

There's no disadvantage. You only gain function. Root is the equivalent of having admin access on your computer. There's no reason why you'd want to not have admin/root access to your phone.

Symptoms of rooting may include:
•
nightmares
•
flashbacks
•
emotional detachment or numbing of feelings
•
insomnia
•
irritability
•
hyper-vigilance
•
avoidance of reminders
•
excessive startle response
•
memory loss
•
self-medication through increased alcohol use or turning to drugs.
The only disadvantage is that you can't rent movies from the Play Store. It won't let you watch them if your rooted.
Other then that, nothing. Rooted just means you have admin access to certain folders normally that are read only.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If you have to ask this question, then you probably don't need to root the phone.
You have to be careful with what you flash that is rooted. There is a developer I've seen in the Gnex section that worked with another that was putting keyloggers and crap into his rom. He still deals with him to this day.
I rock my Gnex unrooted mostly, I'll flash a rom for a week and see how it goes. Build a kernel and see how long until I get sick of force closes and reboots. My phone is more of a toy, there is absolutely nothing important I do on my phone and I like to keep it that way.
Worst part of rooting is everyone asking me how to root theirs.

Unfortunately no since both of the other Tab 3 variants use different CPUs. Think at this point it may be some time before anything gets going on the 10.1. I'm not really sure what the stigma is here it seems to be a pretty good performing tablet would be nice to have root to remove the bloatware and make better.

I don't think that it's necessarily a dead device just need someone to actually take a look at it instead of believing that theirs nothing good about it. From what I've seen so far it seems to have good battery life and not half bad in performance either and contrary to what I've seen in the reviews the GFX performance it actually also very good as well it beats my TF700 pretty solidly though resolution may be a factor there.

Im working also on stock rooted rom, and trying to get a recovery as well.
I don't have the device yet, so if you have it, and gained root... I would like some files:
recovery.fstab
graphics.c
postrecoveryboot.sh
If someone is able to get those after you have root, and get them to me... a CWM recovery is on the way

umm hi
i wanna buy this tablet for my girlfriend
but before handing it over i want to give it a touch
which kernel,rom,apps do you suggest?

and i am obviously not familiar with any kind of lg product or kernel or anything
i have a rooted note on a costume rom ( if you wanna know about my experience)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Its pretty easy to root the thing. Here is what i would do:
Root
Install twrp 2.7 recovery
make a backup so you have it exactly like it came out of the box other than root.
Then you have about 3 choices for roms
Mahdi-Rom 2.5 4.4
LRS G Pad][v1.2.0 4.2.2 +BOB kernel
CYANOGENMOD 11 LINARO/SABERMOD 4.4
Ive used all 3 and settled on LINARO/SABERMOD. It seemed the easiest to setup, didnt have a huge amount of stuff installed (i cant use/stand pie controls) and it was easy to setup for tap on/off.
what is the point in changing the rom?i mean the installed one has a problem?
other than that what apps do you suggest,or maybe a launcher!

No need for a custom rom, the stock one is fine. I would root it and maybe install a custom recovery, but that's completely optional, plus adding a custom recovery has the disadvantage that it complicates things when you want to do an OTA update.
Some people prefer an alternate launcher, e.g. Nova.
But really, you don't need to do anything but add some apps.

Hello..
First let me say, any standard stylus will do just fine.. I would pick one that is your Girlfriends Favorite Color.. :good:
Personally.. If I were in your position knowing what I know about "Stock ROM's" vs "What's Available" to give her tablet *A Touch*..
The only Custom ROM I would install for her is the Mahdi-ROM.. It's 100% Stable ( The Most Important Thing ) and it's very Fluid and Fast.
Other than that, I would leave it completely stock since the Official 4.4.2 KitKat Update will most likely arrive in the next 60 days.
