Disadvantages of Rooting the "G.nexus"? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

hi guys, i'm wondering about the Disadvantages of Rooting the specially G.nexus ?
thanks

If you know what you are doing or have the ability to read carefully... none, it's a amazing thing!!! Your phone will be a Lion among a herd of yaks.
If you do not posses either of those two things, it's scary bad. I'm not trying to be mean but thats the honest truth. I have rooted peoples phones for them and some left to their own devices have managed to make their phones slower and laggier than stock ever good be with many things not working or barely working. It's usually they skipped a step or changed a setting they shouldn't have.

Why the double thread?

Some people like stock devices.

1.) You'll never be happy with an unrooted phone ever again.
2.) Your friends will be like "Can you show me how to root?"
Only ones I can think of.

There's no disadvantage. You only gain function. Root is the equivalent of having admin access on your computer. There's no reason why you'd want to not have admin/root access to your phone.

Symptoms of rooting may include:
•
nightmares
•
flashbacks
•
emotional detachment or numbing of feelings
•
insomnia
•
irritability
•
hyper-vigilance
•
avoidance of reminders
•
excessive startle response
•
memory loss
•
self-medication through increased alcohol use or turning to drugs.

The only disadvantage is that you can't rent movies from the Play Store. It won't let you watch them if your rooted.
Other then that, nothing. Rooted just means you have admin access to certain folders normally that are read only.

If you have to ask this question, then you probably don't need to root the phone.
You have to be careful with what you flash that is rooted. There is a developer I've seen in the Gnex section that worked with another that was putting keyloggers and crap into his rom. He still deals with him to this day.
I rock my Gnex unrooted mostly, I'll flash a rom for a week and see how it goes. Build a kernel and see how long until I get sick of force closes and reboots. My phone is more of a toy, there is absolutely nothing important I do on my phone and I like to keep it that way.

Worst part of rooting is everyone asking me how to root theirs.

I feel the same way. The stock ICS seems to be a lot faster than the MCR's at the moment - not sure why.
The only reason to root is to get things such as Ad Free, Full Backups, Underclock CPU when screen off, Apply Paul's UI tweaks.
Obviously things will grow in the future. If you do it now, then you dont risk the chance of losing the ability to in the future (doubtful that will ever happen with a Nexus)

I will only root if a kernel with ridiculous battery life surfaces. Otherwise this may be the first Android phone I really see no reason rooting. Strange thought.

AdFree is pretty silly IMO. Blocking connections using the host file? Really? I guess the creators don't know what a firewall is or how to use iptables.

New to Samsung ...which Rom should I use?

What's up everyone, new to this forum, have had my phone for a little bit now, and need some tethering for my HP tablet with android. So its time to root!
I was looking at some of the Rom's and thought I'd get some of your opinions.

Erm.. Flash AOKP and you won't ever be bothered to switch ROMs.
Some of the devs have nightlies, so no, i haven't had that issue! Always something new with a/multiple new feature/features. Plus with theme manager and the amount of roms supporting it, i can go straight on performance and then easily pick my theme.

? I just use my nandroids. The only time I use titanium is for specific apps to carry over.restoring system settings can be problematic

I'd like to flash Provision, but I don't believe there is support for the i515, yet. I've been wanting to try Liquid Smooth, but AOKP just suites me perfectly...I'm scared to make the switch.

no, it was meant to provide clean android experience without skins and bloatware, and ease of rooting and unlocking bootloader for those who care about it
there's nothing wrong with flashing, but flashing several ROMs daily is kind of stupid, people end up not using their phone as a smartphone, instead it becomes just another toy

Nope, as a "developer phone", it's meant for developers to have a stable and clean platform on which to base and write their apps for

Before everyone starts berating you for not installing another rom, I installed goldeneye and it was fine for a bit and got terrible lag on the home screen and app drawer. So I went back to rooted stock again. Only rom for my phone that is smooth.
Okay one of these thread whining about t mobile updates just got locked. Can we not start a new one?
If you want updates now, root your phone and update it to your heart's content. That is what XDA is here for.
If you want to stay stock for whatever reasons and complain about a lack of updates, do it on the t mobile forums. They have forums there that are monitored by people who might actually listen and do something about it. There are zero people from t mobile reading this thread.

I got the opposite - lag with stock and not with custom ROM's (and kernels) like Wicked and Omega.
The post above is good idea - flood the tmobile forum.

Unfortunately no since both of the other Tab 3 variants use different CPUs. Think at this point it may be some time before anything gets going on the 10.1. I'm not really sure what the stigma is here it seems to be a pretty good performing tablet would be nice to have root to remove the bloatware and make better.

I don't think that it's necessarily a dead device just need someone to actually take a look at it instead of believing that theirs nothing good about it. From what I've seen so far it seems to have good battery life and not half bad in performance either and contrary to what I've seen in the reviews the GFX performance it actually also very good as well it beats my TF700 pretty solidly though resolution may be a factor there.
