Every time I try to play video that was recorded using the Nexus 7, it either plays sideways or upside down in mxplayer. Regular videos or movies that are transferred over play fine. Its only the videos that are recorded using any camera/video app or even the default camera app as well.
I have tried confirmed the screen rotation is on auto rotation and even checked all the options numerous times to see if something was conflicting. Did a default reset of the app settings. Even reinstalled it completely, but issue still remains.
Again, what I am doing is trying to play videos that are recorded by the device from the default gallery app. Playing the videos using the video players work fine, its mxplayer that is giving me issues.
Any suggestions?

What app are you using to record? [Edit: now I see. Have you tried something else?] There might be something saved about orientation. Have you tried copying the videos to a PC to see how they play there?

Apparently I get to research this fun issue now. Anyways is there any correlation between choppy video play back and recording in low light situations?
The vids I'm recoding right now are in semi low light but I can still see what I'm recording, but during play back the video seems to pause then continue. Sometimes its very bad sometimes its just every once in awhile.
I have adjusted recording resolution and encoding but there wasnt any change.
Any ideas?

Ok thought i d post back with some findings.
I'm using a pc to actualy watch these vids to better look for issues and isolate at what point the pauses and glitches are introduced. It seems that its having a hard time actually making the video. Not play back, because my pc plays back the crappy video just as crapy as my evo.
I got the video to stop freezing and pitching. I'm not sure what fixed it but I believe it was fixed by running a check risk on my SD card.
I noticed that everytime I connected my Evo to my pc via usb and used removable storage mode my windows 7 would ask if I wanted to scan and fix or not. I was telling it no, but after I did thus scan my videos want back to being pretty clear and not choppy.
Thought I'd share my findings.

actually i hv suffered from this problem for a long time
it says "sorry, this video cannot be played" in any sense rom if i play any video on it. even those recorded by using camcorder. but i can play them by clicking the thumbnail on the camcorder (on the bottom left of the camcorder after recording)
but still, i can view videos by using other apps
pls help thx
More people got this issue. I had it once, and I think I know the solution.
I had a lot of videos on my HOX. Some of them could'nt be played since I don't have the right codecs/decoders on HOX(example mkv files). Weird thing was they show up in gallery, but every video I played stoped after max 10 seconds of playing (even those that were working before).
After that I deleted the video's which can't play due missing the right codecs. After deleting them I tried again, and suddenly all movies work again.
Don't know if this is the right solution, but it worked for me. And an other work-around is to use a other media player. MX Player does a solid good job.

Hey,
Just got this phone today and was playing with the setting. I saw there was a slowmo function on the video camera so i took a video with it. I went to play it back and it played regular speed. I checked a couple of places and it said to change the settings in the menu function when playing back. The only issue is that there is no menu function in video playback. Some other people have had this problem with no answer. I am running stock software on t-mobile. Any help would be appreciated.

Well not working for me. Recorded a video then played it back on the stock player. Regular motion and no option for anything else.
Make sure you're not accidentally playing it through Google's photos app. That was my problem. Clear your defaults in the app settings and then launch the video again. Make sure you choose the default video player.
That was it, thanks!!!
Every time I watch a video on YouTube the video plays in 144p quality. I have to manually select which quality I want which is usually 720p each time and for every video I watch. Auto does nothing but play in 144p. Mobile data or Wifi same thing.
This is a problem I'm just noticing. In the past it would always play in 720p if I selected that and that quality would stick. Maybe it's the YouTube app?
Anyone have any idea what's causing this and what I can do if anything? Thanks

Youtube selects the resolution based on connection speed.
I have 50+ dl speed on my WiFi. It still starts the video at 144p. If I select 1080p or 1440p quality the video plays just fine...No buffering or anything. The thing is I don't like having to select the quality for every video I watch cause sometimes I watch alot of different videos

My youtube app plays fine (720p), even on 3G. Strange. Uninstall and install it again.
