HTC today lauched the Desire HD and Desire Z both of which have the new HTCSence.com services which lets you manage your device from a web browser where you can find your lost phone, clear all information from the phone and transfer information from device to device.
Anyone know if this service will be available to other users of the old HTC Sense before the new phones?

As far as I know it will be available for all customers using HTC handset with Sense capabilities.
Only HTC will know this as it was announced today...give it time and more information will come out
I'm looking forward to this if it allows for easy backups of the phone.
Anyone else read about Nokia giving out HTC survival kits? Lol.

Read about it, quite a laugh. It should have been Nokia trying to survive kits considering that Nokia is struggling to survive the mobile biz right now!

false... not everyone needs a smartphone, and for many people nokia handsets are "smart enough", or simply they need "dumb phones" that can call, call well and call for long time! Days of standby, some models even weeks... do it with a smartphone, if you can, without a nuclear portable power source... it's STILL and will be for many years the first producer, because it has a range of devices that goes from the basic device of as low as 20€, to the smartphones that have still now many people used to its GUI... an android or iphone user doubtly will return to THAT gui, btw...
From Engadget:
Eric Lin was on hand to answer the question of when this new Sense might trickle down to the classic Desire or other handsets in HTC's portfolio. Well, his answer was a non-answer: no roadmap or schedule has been set and HTC isn't ruling anything out just yet.

Hope they release it for the Desire as soon as the HD and Z launch. Oh well, I'm sure the devs will make sure that we'll have the new sense in no time!
No updates anyone?
After yesterday's disapointing release I finally bit the bullet and got a new 'phone from my network operator. I was offered a choice between the HTC sensation and the Samsung Galaxy II and I went for the latter mainly because I was not impressed with the HTC approach to the GB update. I will move to reading their section in xda.
To all those that have helped me either through lurking on their threads or by answering my questions I just wanted to say thank-you!
Enjoy your new phone! Although I didn't think Samsung are any better at updates lol

Laters!
if you want updates you need to go Nexus really.
Samsung are flavour of the month for the moment - but remember their FroYo release? It took about 3-4 months after HTC's release...
Failing that you just need to go AOSP with a custom rom - which you can do on almost any handset.
Perhaps you should address your goodbye to HTC directly
here you are
Flashlight
Have you heard of custom roms?

Well update to Gb which HTC released is in my opinion great cause they just do everything they were able to port GB to desire and than just released it for developers. For some time we will have great custom roms with official Gb, alreadywe have SuperNova by Droidzone.

I love my Desire
I love the my Desire, and pretty sure it is going to be the Android phone I would use for at least 1.5 years.
The main reason being there are so many Desire users, the ROMs just keep coming and getting better.
Like op i've moved from a desire to a sgs2 for many reasons, mainly my contract was up and I didn't like the lag on the sensation screen! But what gets me is how many people keep going on about custom roms for the desire. Of course there are loads the phone is old in tech year's, I'm sure the same will happen to the sgs2 in about 6 months, but to be honest I don't find much difference between the 2 apart from never having to think about how many applications I can have. Ie running out of memory! As they say you pay ya money and make ya choice.

I was thinking of selling my desire and buy a Sensation but when I read all those user comments about all the issues I changed my mind, sensation still have that nice look, but when we talk about software I cant say the same of what I hear, now I dont know what to do to keep desire and wait until they release some new phone wich will work normal, or give up of HTC and buy some other brand with android.

True, but Samsung didn't promise Desire users Gingerbread and a new version of Sense and failed to deliver.
I got the Desire based on this, and know I feel they flipped the finger, so I can't really blame OP for ditching HTC.
I'm surprised google didn't have a word with them since google set out a baseline for all phone manufacturers that each handset should get at least 18 month's of updates? Therefore google is saying the max size each version of android is gonna be and the processing power requirements! It's like the htc wildfire this will never see gingerbread as it has the same if not less memory and power than the desire! Yet its a newer phone than the desire! Or is it google just doesn't care? And is letting phone manufacturers get away with it?

Ciao
I love when people talk about companies "promising" something and then moan when it doesn't happen. Reminds me of the old days in the school playground...
From what I can see, HTC did thier best to deliver, but unfortunately the constraints of the device stopped them being able to do more. What do people expect them to do, come over and upgrade the memory in each phone?
Some people just want the moon on a stick.
Note to OP, it's 'so long' not 'good-bye'
Hey folks,
for sum apps market keeps saying "Your device is not compatible with this item"
Well - that might be the case. But since the One X is the most powerful phone currently on the market it´s at least worth a try.
Did anyone ever try something to fix that? Like changing the build.prop. That used to help back at Desire-Times.
Regards
I had same issue with version 1.20.xxx. i then went back with it and doa cuz that is not the version u r suppose to have. On startup it always said android upgrading but never did and when i looked for updates it said no updates found. So if u have same issue just be strong and tell ur dealer its a doa. And get a New working One that has 1.26.xxx atleast.

I've got 1.26 and I keep finding this to its really annoying looking through tegrazone for good things to put my phone to the test and half of the items saying they dont support my device, surely if it runs on an older tegra2 device this one should be more than enough.
Splashtop GamePad THD is another, supports ICS build for tegra 3 but not for the one x
Geez guys, the phone's been out for about ten days. The developers are the ones that provide Google with compatibility information, not HTC. If an app's not working ping the developer and ask them to update their compatibility information or if they intend to make their app compatible with the One X.
Assuming their counted as the same phone, a lot of developers will pay more attention when the AT&T version's released because that will add a lot of volume. Because the SoC’s different they may be treated as two different devices though; at least that will be true for Teg apps.
Ok to sum it up, we all have the same problem .
Question is, if anyone around here has a useful idea how to fix it ;D

Yes. They have different model numers and different internal (to HTC) names. The One X is the "Endeavor" and the One XL is the "Evita." The AT&T version is actually the One XL.

I offered a lot of times to pay the difference.
Allright i will wait for the One X + then, any word on release date?
erm.. gotta say this. but every single phone that is released, will have some sort of teething problems. quite frankly it's a miracle if it didn't have any problems.
does it not seem likely to anybody that the one x+ will simply have it's own set of teething problems?
i'm not saying don't get it, just don't expect it to be flawless, because it probably won't be

I guess the question is whether there is going to be a one X+ or not. Plus, it might be a lot more expensive for some small engineering defects that could have been fixed already.
If I'm on the same boat I will go for one x+, even with teething new phone problem. If the engineering and production problem have yet to be resolved then I will be looking forward to get the ones+2 or what ever

If you get a phone soon after release ,it will have problems, however little, even if just software bugs and so on.. Its just a fact of life I'm afraid. I agree with hamdir there might be less problems but they've likely changed the production process of the tegra and so that could cause some new issues to show up over time. It's also running jelly bean, so because the Google code has changed a lot, no doubt some new, different software bugs will be introduced.
Hopefully the qc will be better now and there will be less hardware problems though. As it's basically the same design so the wifi fix would already be in there etc

Can anyone of you who insists that the HOX+ will be better in terms of QC explain to me what make you so sure that this upgraded version will have fewer defects? I mean hardware issues such as dodgy GPS/ death grip have been existent on HTC phones since the DHD, Sensation, Sensation XE, Sensation XL and now HTC One X. Just yesterday I downloaded the GPS status app on my co-worker's HTC one S (1.7 Ghz version) and guess what the result was: the phone was unable to connect to any satellite at all, whereas the Xperia S was connecting to about 10 out of 20 and the error was about 4,5 meters. And keep in mind the HOS s3 version came out way after the HOX and the s4 HOS and yet still has the same GPS problem.
So please enlighten me with the reasons for your positivity. Not trolling I really want to know.
The One X+ all the way, the LTE alone makes it a worthwhile investment. That said, S-OFF will probably take longer.
Defo one x+! Its's refreshed version of one x + 64GB storage/higher clocked processor.

HTC OneX and OneX + will not receive any further updates.
Its officially announced by HTC now.
"We can confirm that the HTC One X and One X+ will not receive further Android OS updates beyond Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed both devices to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences. -HTC"
Update: the only HTC One X variant that will be updated to Android 4.3 is the HTC EVO 4G LTE on Sprint.

Well. Its a quad core it could not handle android 4.4. Wait cm is running great. Well they would need a big team to update to kk. Wait thomy updated to cm kk all by himself.
All these just proves that htc did not learn anything. thought they could be it you know the company that cares trying to give out the best for the lowest price and keep it updated as long as possible. Instead they are just like everybody else.
My dad bought a samsung tv today. It could not run the youtube app no matter what. I called samsung and they said it is not a problem from their side but from the developers of the app. Ok so f off and tnx for false advertisement (for 2 months). Then the wifi would not work. Called them again they said if it isnt 5m from the router (visual distance) it wont work. Which actually means hey you have a really crappy wifi chip so thats how we protect ourselves so we dont need to replace it.
Dont know where im going with it? I think that if we dont stand up to the industry and demand changes like i dont know a htc xda program for example or everyone slaps ceo of samsung for everytime youtube wont start, we are going to end up in a ditch from where we will not be able to come out. For christ sake i cant even connect a htc phone to a samsung tv anymore. And that should be normal???

Its a hard lesson learnt, only buy Qualcomm based chipset phones from now on. nVidia gives fancy names to their chipsets, however they are pathetic when it comes to supporting their chipset.
I think it has to do with HTC also.. Dont blame just nvidia. if HTC wanted they could have updated the phone as fas as i know. Thomy's ROM is working fine on hox and so does slimkat. Why don't HTC discuss it out with nvidia and both could have worked hard to give an update.
But see they both (HTC and nvidia) dont give support to old devices and try to work hard on throwing new devices every then and now. If they would have worked that hard (or even less than that) on giving support to hox, it might be a good decision..
Hox is a solid performing device which HTC d#tched early..

They sure as hell aren't getting that money from me.
I see a main cause that HTC decided to not update our phone anymore in the fact that 90% of the users of a phone are just the basic users, who just leave everything on their phone as it was delivered. Only thing I see my friends changing on their Android phones are the wallpaper and their app shortcuts. Some of them change their widgets, some don't. And out of my whole circle of friends I am the only one who knows what a custom ROM is and what the most up to date Android version is. So why should HTC Update our device any further if the only people really concerning about these updates are "those geeks over at xda developers". If things were the other way around and 90% of the HOX owners around the world would trample HTCs HQ for not updating our phone and would take the same step as me and were not going to buy any other HTC phone anymore they would sure as hell update it to KK.
But as people dont do so, why should they update it.
The thing is that old versions of Android also mean more security concerns and possible app compatability issues in the future. Things like this are a concern for the average user and not so much us who know how to tinker with custom roms.
And my friends who have Android phones and who I'd call average users complain about lack of upgrades just as much as me. They still want their phones to have the newest features, up to date looks and all that. HTC being so horrible with updates means that people recognize then as a company with lack of support. And people don't pay hundreds of dollars/euros for just more than one years worth of support.

It's not like that. You don't see Samsung or Motorola not updating their old devices just because 90% of the users don't complain.
Samsung is going to update S3 to kitkat. and motorola has already confirmed that old devices are receiving kitkat. those devices don't even have large user base like that of HOX.
