kernel question - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi. I'm running PA 3.99 on my AT&T galaxy S3 (sgh-i747). I want to use a custom kernel, but I don't know which one to use. I flashed ktoonsez and lean kernel, but my phone wouldn't boot all the way up afterwards. Can someone please give me a hand?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

If you used ktoonez it should work fine, make sure when you download a kernel its for your devices and also what firmware or version it supports such as 4.3, 4.2.2, 4.4 etc.

[Q] Flash AT&T AOKP JB ROM

I already did a search on this question and wasnt really sure if it was only for the MIUI rom or if it was okay to flash any rom and it would still work. I want to flash the AOKP JB rom for the AT&T galaxy 3 to my Tmobile galaxy 3, is it possible to flash this rom and have everything working to? Thanks in advance
I can't answer your question, but I have one of my own. What's wrong with the TMo AOKP builds?
Nothing. I'm actually using their latest one right now but I wanted to see what the difference is. Sorry, I don't know much about rooting, I just know how to do it. And I like to try out and use different things
I am running task and ktoonez aokp from att on my t mobile s3 right now. It's been running good so far. No problems. Everything working fine. Using the ktoonez kernel too that is in the post.

You can flash them fine but there shouldnt be any difference between them

[Q] Problem with kernel and booting up.

Hello. So I tried to install a Franco kernel and it didn´t go well. Now my GNex won´t boot-up. It have happaned before with franco kernel. Then I reinstalled ROM and had to wipe all data. So my question: is there any way to get my device to bootup without reseting. Fortunately I have made Titanium backup so everything isn´t lost.

Its a AOKP rom and I don´t know the exact kernel because I downloaded it with the franco.kernel app. The app said it´s the latest and stable version. ( I have tried to install different kernels with Nexus Root Toolkit.)
Be aware that 4.2.2 kernels are not compatible with 4.2.1 or lower ROMs.
The latest franco APP 8.8.4 will install a 4.2.2 kernel.
If you did that, you have to re flash other compatible kernel .

there should be a boot.img inside the zip file for the rom you are on. pull that and flash it in fastboot.

Compatible kernel query

Guys I'm using the latest build of omnirom 4.4.1 the 26.12 build and I was just wondering is there a somewhat stable enough kernel that is compatible with it yet?

I haven't flashed it, but I will do it later today.

The cm 11 kernels should work fine. Pretty much any aosp kernel based on 4.4 will work.

Thanks I will give devil kernel a try.

Actually they have been some issues with some of the AOSP roms. example I tried to flash Devil on SlimKat a week back and it got stuck on a boot loop. As per the kernel dev it was due to each rom using different initramfs.

This ^^^^..
The devs are working the kernels pretty hard right now...and I'm sure that devil kernel will be 4.4 capable before long...
We are just well ahead of the curve on 4.4...and devs need time to catch up on all of the extra mods....g

This is true. Hopefully most aosp rom should be built to boot the same.

Alright so might as well wait for the appropriate launch of a compatible kernel, thanks a lot guys

Flashing custom kernel

I have been trying, unsuccessfully to flash two different custom kernels. The first was the Matrix Kernel v1.42(no overclock) and the other was Sleshepicss Governor Kernel v1.7 MA7. I have been using Phiz custom recovery to flash and the flash process says completed successfully but after reboot the phone does nothing. Any suggestions??
Edit: I am running Dirty Unicorns 4.4.2 rom
Those won't work. Read kernels op. They are not for 4.4.2 heck I don't even think either of these work with aosp no matter the version. Use the latest plasma (omni rom build)

[Q] Which version of kernel to use?

Im running Slim Bean for the Tmobile S3 version 4.3.1 - version Slim-4.3.build.2-OFFICIAL-1349 and I wanted to know what version of Lean Kernel I should use, along with what Governor/IO. I did a search and found the Slimbean thread to be closed.
Search for the ASOP 4.3 version of that kernel in their thread for ur model

Exactly what dorian2kx said, and for govs/IO you can use any

I don't think so, isn't that an international variant kernel?

I honestly have not seen it in our forums, search for it and if its not here then it does not support it, do NOT try to flash it in this case.. It could have been a T-Mobile S3 for another country, not the U.S. variant

Yes, but what would be the best combination for battery life?

Each kernel is different so I don't know. Personally I just used stock on demand and runs great for me. A balance between performance and battery life.. I don't like to sacrifice performance
