I flashed a new ROM. And I used Titanium to restore my apps. Everything appeared fine until i realized that many of my apps had no histories at all. I tried to restore data only for a couple of them, and there was still no data. Does anyone know what could have happened?
When I first launched Titanium on the new ROM it couldn't find any backup. I had to ask it to manually scan the entire phone before it found it.

Is there a different location you saved to such as ExtSD card? I save mine to ExtSD card and every time I flashed a new ROM I would have to go into preferences and chose the ExtSD location.

Yeah! It appears that at some point I chose to store it on my external SD card. But that shouldn't cause the app data missing issue.

Heh, could try FolderMount and mount the files on /extSdcard to your phones internal memory, let TB find it, then unmount them. It will work but not sure why it didn't earlier.
When you want to backup anything, I recommend ease backup on the playstore. Never had an issue, always have issues with tb

I got a new Sd Card. Searched and folled instructions.
1. Turn off phone, copy sd card to temp folder on computer.
2. Copy temp folder contents to new sd card.
3. put sd card back into phone
4. turn on
Did all this, now my launcher is gone, and all my apps are gone. I check phones memory and the memory shows that a ton of stuff is installed, but i cant see it in the app drawer.
Any idea whats up?
Fresh Evo 4.1.1.
Well for the launcher especially, have you tried moving it to internal memory, or restoring with titanium backup?

All of my apps WERE internal memory...
If i go to internal storage, i can see all of the apps listed there. but they are greyed out.
I didnt do a titanium backup, just because i didnt think swaping an sd card was an issue. Even putting my old card in doesnt fix the issue
I am going to advise looking at this...BAM > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
Have you tried rebooting?
The sd card is recognized. That isnt the issue. The issue is that all of my apps, settings, and such in the Internal memory are no longer recognized. they are there. i can see them in the sd card and storage section of settings, but they will not run.
I tried running Amon_ra UID mismatch, and Ext fix.

Are you able to move the apps to the sd card? Use titanium backup to do so, but only move user apps, and see if that works or does anything.
weird issue arises... When i try to re-download and install an app that i once had, launcher Pro, i get an error stating incompatable software version...
Also, titanium backup lists all of the apps that are missing, but they have a strikeout line through them.
That's awkward, let me think, and for titanium backup, have you tried running 'problems'?
yep... even in hopes of fixing this i bought the titanium full key.... still no luck

anyone have any solutions????
When I save a Titanium Backup.zip, is that backing everything including the programs and data NOT on the SD card? In otherwords, if I want to make a back up of just the sd card contents if I want to change/upgrade my card, do I just copy the entire sd card to my PC and after formatting the new card just copy everything back? If I use the Titanium Backup.zip won't that wipe over everything and not just the sd card right?

Are you talking about creating an 'update.zip' from Titanium Backup? Assuming this is what you're referring to, though I've never done it, I think all it does is enables you to install TB from CWM directly. I wish most ROMs would just include TB, but since not everyone uses it I understand why they don't.
I don't think this makes a backup of anything really, but I could be wrong. If you want to back everything up, that's where you can nandroid. If you want to backup everything on your SD card, then the steps you stated about copying to a PC are probably your best bet.
Just backup your sd card on a PC, format the new card in the phone (for best compatibility). Then restore everything back onto it from the PC.

Yeah, it starts out as an "Update.zip" but I choose the "Titanium Backup.zip" option. Huh! I did't know that it was only making a backup of Titanium Backup.

I'm not 100% on that, but based on what I read in that option, that's what it sounds like to me. The purpose would be a way for you to restore all your apps if you're lacking a data connection when you flash something new or wipe anything. Chances are slim, but I reckon they're there. If you don't have a data connection, there is no way to download TB and use it to restore anything else...
EDIT: I guess one way to find out would be to make that zip and see how big the file is. If it's only a few megs, then it's just TB. If it's more than that, like over 80ish, then you know it's quite a bit more than just the one app.
I Odined back to bone stock non rooted. I go to marketplace and download a few apps I need to get back up and running. One is Navigon, which I made a copy of all its downloaded maps and transferred them to my sdcard earlier. Also another app is My Backup Pro, same thing, backed everything up on to my sdcard. Now before I tried to move the maps and backups to the sdcard through the apps themselves, but they wouldnt ever find the sdcard. Now I was going to copy everything back to the internal memory, but the apps find the back ups on their own! I dont need to transfer anything over, its like the apps all of a sudden can use the external card.
Why now? What happened?
Many times apps that need additional data don't really get rid of it from the internal storage even after uninstalling the app. I guess the data was retained in the internal storage through ur rom change and so the apps are just able to find it. But its really annoying that certain apps don't get rid of all associated data during uninstallation.

I think what I'm trying to say in my ramblings is I thought Samsung took away the ability to read/write to the sd card for apps?
I think Samsung disabled many sdcard functions. See this thread:

Yea I have navigon and downloaded all the state maps. Then I copied them to the sd, then deleted maps on internal sd, navigon still has the maps. ??
thank me if I helped
Yes! Exactly. So, I guess in a round about way we can move app data to the external card. At least for some apps.
Once I get more testing done I may write a script. Yet it is very easy to just paste to an initd enabled stock base rom. Set permissions and owner the same as it's relations there. Back up before you try it.

I applaud your effort, but I don't think that too many folks are worried about internal storage issues any more. I was, at first, when using SS. but ever since we could unlock the bootloader and use TWRP, I've got tons of space (nearly 2GB of free space on my internal storage). and that's with all 1GB+ of my songs and 100+ apps installed).
I just make sure to set my camera to automatically save pics/vids to my external_SD card. I could also move my songs to the external_SD card as well, but then I would have to re-create my playlists from scratch, and that is a HUGE PITA when doing it from a phone.
I have a 32GB card installed, and the only other items filling that up are ROMs/backups (including TiBu).

Yet it also means many app settings survive a rsd restore.
You do not have to even think about WHERE an app puts stuff because it is always on the external.

but I think that is why JB chose to disable moving apps to the external folder, as it could cause issues. but whenever I flash a new ROM, I always allow the app to re-download via the market. everything else, I just backup via TiBu (and I have that backup folder saved to the external directory).

To be clear this has nothing to do with moving apps. That is disabled in the OS.
Searched and found some info on the above in regards to other phones, but the solutions did not work for this phone (or maybe just not for me):silly:
Rooted with Towelroot, and Chainfire for the Superuser last week. Installed TiB, and checked in one of its menus to use the external SD card for automatic backups (I believe).
I perform a full backup of all apps and data, but I had been having issues with a bad install of Go Launcher so I decide to do a phone reset (to KK 4.4.2) and restore with a fresh OS.
Upon reboot, the phone automatically Dl'ed all of my Google info and apps, contacts, and everything, all by itself. When the phone rebooted, I was surprised to see that I still had root, but without SU. Did another restore just to be sure and reinstalled Towelroot manually. There must have been an update to it since last week as the SU was automatically installed this time and I had SU without needing to install Chainfire. I reinstalled TiB and attempted to do a TiB restore, but learned that all of my backup info had been stored on the INTERNAL SD card and it was all wiped with the phone restore.
Is it just me, or am I wrong in thinking that a backup/restore app should put the data on an external source by default, or at least search your device for external storage and then ask if that's where you want it to go? storing data on a drive that is going to be wiped seems totally counter-intuitive to me!!!
I go back into TiB settings and try to redirect the storage location to the EXTERNAL SD card by hitting the back button when looking at the file structure, but when I get to the external card, TiB says it's not writable. Some other phone threads mentioned to use the MNT directory but that didn't work either.
So, after all the above, can anyone either talk me through how to get TiB to store externally, or possibly would you provide a link if you know of a thread that allows it to work with our phones (E980 on AT&T). I've tried a few things mentioned on different threads but none of it seems to work!
I had a similar problem with stock AT&T KITKAT ROM. I could not get any app to write to the external SD card, not ROOT Explorer, ROMToolbox, or Titanium Backup. I could move files from my external SD to my internal, but nothing would copy or save to the external. This pissed me off and I said goodbye to stock AT&T KITKAT. I flashed Sphinx for E980 and have had no problem with SD card. It's a solid ROM if you want a stock-like experience.
I had the same problem on the AT&T KitKat rom. I just edited platform.xml to enable writing to the external sd and that fixed all of the access issues on root apps.
