[Q] Camera Help - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

so i recently got the note 3 (coming from the htc one) was wondering if anyone is having issues with the camera taking blurry pictures inside (havent tested the camera outside as of yet)?
another thing, was wondering if theres a fix on here for the blurriness, debating if i want to root this as it will perminantly leave the 0X1 mark on the phone.

Play around with settings and see what works best for your phone. I assume you have pulled the plastic off the lens

i feel stupid now.i didnt see any plastic on the lens at all so im guessing its off. and yeah i did play with it and seems like it is fixed for now, ill update in the morning.
and what do i need to know about rootin my device. im aware that it will trigger the knox to 0x1. but when flashing roms and kernels, do i need extra files for everything to work or just the roms and kernels...im a newbee to the note three so havent gotten the chance to check out the roms.
when browsing, i noticed this section doesnt has that many roms, can i use the main note three page or is it recommended to use the tmobile sections.

You Put TWRP or CMW any custom recovery. Yes you will trip Knox I believe. Also if you change kernel even thought it's stock rom will also come up with a message on the splash screen "warning kernel is not seadroid enforcing"

I had film on my lens that was on so snuggly i never noticed it but one day something scratched it a little big and i could see it peel up a little bit and removed it, so maybe try just scratching the corner of the lens lightly with a finger nail to make sure there isn't a film on there?
Although mine didnt really take blurry photos with or without the film on. but maybe your film got dirty?

Just picked up a Epic 4G Touch. Coming over from a Sprint HTC EVO. Questions!

Well, I stopped on the way home from work today to see what was new at Sprint. I've been thinking about getting the EVO 3D... I came home with a Touch.
So. I want to root, so I can run root apps like um, Ad Free etc. What do I need to know about rooting this before I jump in head first? Do these phones have any stupid security etc or anything I need to know about?
I just wanna make sure I don't mess anything up.
What do we have for a recovery etc?
Any tips would be GREAT!
E4GT doesn't have all the locked bootloader stuff to worry about like EVO 3D.
You can start off here:
[ROOT][EG30] Automated root of your existing stock ROM (w/o ODIN or ROM Flash)
That will get you rooted on stock and won't involve flashing anything. It doesn't use ODIN.
There is also a tool called ODIN which lets you flash stuff to the phone outside of Android. It provides fastboot-like functionality. Using ODIN, if you flash unsigned kernels, your boot screen will get a yellow triangle and there is a flash count that gets incremented. Also it'll identify the phone in the boot screen by the real model name (I9100...) rather Galaxy S2. Other than that it'll still boot and work.
Question about this ODIN flasher thingy and the unsigned kernels. Why the increment count etc? What is the point to that?
Thanks for the info btw. I think the link you sent will be a good start. Don't need to flash any custom roms yet. I wanna get the hang of the stock one first. This Samsung has a very different feel then the HTC EVO/Sense stuff.
Need to ask Samsung.
Probably they want to keep track of whether you installed non-standard software, possibly for service reasons.
---------- Post added at 01:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:35 AM ----------
BTW you can use a USB jig to get rid of the Yellow Triangle and reset the flash counter.
If you just want to get rid of the Yellow Triangle, you can flash back the stock kernel, then use other methods like the Root Installation Kit I pointed to earlier.
Once you get CWM, flashes through that won't affect the Yellow Triangle and flash count.
Just watch the roots right now the odin has an issue with LOS from what I have seen. I am currently using a direct root which roots the rom.
I assume LOS means loss of service?
OK! Noted.

Stock phones suffer from LOS too. Rooting and some kernels MAY make it worse. I've flashed nearly everything available for this device in the last month and have not had 1 serious unexplainable LOS.

OK! Well I did the MOST important thing I wanted to do which was to get root in there so I could use Adfree!
I also did the EG30+CWM5 while I was there. Now what? What cool stuff is there to play with? Looking around the forums now, just not sure what to check out first.

If it were me, I would use the phone as is for a few days to get some feel for whether your situation will get LoS and what the battery life is. Then you have a baseline to compare to after you start making changes.
It is easy to get really excited and install a whole bunch of stuff and all of a sudden you get LoS or really bad battery life, and then you can't figure out what caused it or even what to expect with the stock phone.
This could lead you to think the phone is at fault when it is actually something that was installed later.
Also with the official Samsung rom out now most of the roms in development will be getting reworked shortly.

As far as I know the only thing you can really do is reboot the phone. going back to a stock kernal also helps.

I'll have to give that a try. I've never been into overclocking these phones. I don't game, I don't use them for video either. I just use them for work to look up help desk tickets while I'm going building to building.

[Q] Screen is unresponsive with finger

I was running the tweeked rom on my Note 2 and was loving it, was running great for a few days...
Today the screen froze when I went to unlock and check a missed call. I am unable to get any response from my finger, nothing... The S pen does work though.
T-mobile tech knew nothing about how to fix it. I tried a different rom and still the same.
Any suggestions? Calibration? Anything? Thanks so much.
As it exists across roms, it regrettably sounds like a hardware issue. Have you tried flashing a stock odin? Likely won't help but it might be worth a shot.

Thanks for the reply. I am afraid that is a pretty big problem too, related to hardware. 10 minutes before the finger freeze I was just realizing how much I loved the phone with the Tweaked Rom and totally set-up.
Anyways, it's going back to T-mobile. I used Odin to flash to stock and used Triangle Way to reset the flasher... Now I am scared to root it and run a rom on the new one, but I know it was just a freak incident...
Just sucks, I hate getting a refurb replacement... I don't know what dirty, grungy, smelly pocket it's been in for a couple months, uh...
I had an issue on my first note 2 where the top right and left of the screen couldnt register the s pen, had to send the phone back. I flashed jedi as soon as i got the second one and been happy ever since.
Moral of the story, DONT WORRY AND FLASH AWAY. ur right, it was a freak accident and it wont happen again.

There is a UK version of 4.2.2 for the 5120, that works great. I screwed up and tried to put a 5110 ROM on, then had to scramble to find this one. Took me 4-5 days, but I got it finally.

This won't work. Your device is different than ours plus we don't have a recognized/confirmed way to unlock the bootloader.

Jeez, I'm not to sure this device is all that great..I'm using a Note 3 phone and this thing is a piece of crap compared to it lol. The screen not being responsive to touches sometimes are really getting annoying. Also I'm thinking AT&T may never update this thing. Seems like they always care about the initial release then it's history.

Lots of threads on this. Yes, the screen is unresponsive. It's a true bummer. I have hope that we'll see 4.2.2, hopefully in the next month or two. When it's released, I hope it has the screen responsiveness fixes and S-Pen offset fixes in the latest wifi version OTAs. I agree with you, I'm losing some patience with this device. As a whole, I love it. I need the pen, like the screen, like that I can use PAYG data, good specs, and the form factor is perfect. Don't like that it's not updated, the screen freezes, no unlocked bootloader, no custom ROMs, and not-so-great battery life.

I did not like that screen either, never had any use for it and when it pops
up it looks and acts like some kind of hesitation or lag in the phone before
it finally goes back to previous screen after any incoming or outgoing calls.
This is a great mod!
Good luck!

Backup should be created in /sdcard/vrthemeundo folder. If you don't have it just replace /system/app/SecPhone.apk with one from the ROM you are using.

Don't know what MOP is but if you can push apps to /system/app then you can replace classes.dex in SecPhone.apk with the one from this zip and push it back. That's what flashing do.

Why in the world are you still Knox 0x0?? Who gives a crap about Samsungs Knox stuff. Trip your counter. If you mess it up, flash another boot loader from like the s4 or note 2, no one will ever know. Just say it won't turn on. Bam, new phone. Keeping your counter 0x0 is like having a model GF and never sleeping with her.

That cracked me up man, that's a perfect analogy because you're exactly right. Whenever people ask me what rooting is, I always say it's basically like giving a rape victim the ability to at least put a condom on their attacker before it happens. You're still gonna get screwed regardless, but at least you can have some control over how it happens! LOL! I definitely know what ya mean as far as Knox goes because I actually popped mine in the parking lot 5 mins after I walked out of the store with it lol.

To each his own and it's obviously up to you how you decide to do things, but what you're doing is literally what they expected you to do. By making people worry about the resale value possibly going down because it has been rooted or more specifically Knox has been tripped, it allows them to stay in control and basically force whatever they want down your throat. Technically there's no such thing as "resale value" with these phones anymore (when it comes to T-mobile at least), because now you're paying for the entire phone over a two year period so by the time you finish paying it off and then try to sell it, you'll never get anywhere near what you paid for it to begin with. It's actually even worse if you go through Jump though because not only are you paying them a down payment for the device, you're also turning it back in to them so you're letting THEM resell it for all the profit.. on top of that you're also paying them another down payment for the next device and the "giant wheel of dongs for your butt" cycle continues. The only way to even kind of "get ahead" is to either buy your phone outright somewhere at a discount or by actually keeping your device for the entire two years to pay it off, because then whatever you're able to sell it for at that point will at least recoupe some of the money you spent on it (and 99% of people buying it outright could care less whether Knox is tripped or not, because Jump has nothing to do with them anyway). So in my opinion "Jump" is nothing but a suckers bet designed for people who have to have the latest and greatest or simply can't wait until their phone is paid off before getting something else. So if you think about it worrying about the resale value is a total waste of time unless you're into suckers bets, and unfortunately it looks like that might be the case considering you said you already moved on. My biggest question would be what could you have "moved on" to that's anywhere near as powerful and awesome as this one?! But that's where to each their own comes in I guess

Vibration stopped working

I've been using Hyperdrive ROM for a while and today I noticed that none of the alerts are producing vibration. I thought it might be related to the kernel I installed so I reverted the kernel but that did not fix. So I installed a new ROM (Resurrection) and I still have the same issue.
I installed Vibration tester and I'm still not getting any vibration.
Any suggestion ?

Yes, it's been working fine until few days ago when I noticed that I'm missing calls and texts due to phone not vibrating in my pocket. At first I thought it was a kernel issue (I was using Hyperdrive rom at that time) so I tried different kernel and it did not fix the issue to yesterday I installed KK remix to see if that fixes the issue but had no luck with that either. So at this point I think it might be a hardware issue and the vibration motor is toast. I went ahead and ordered a replacement and will try my luck with replacing the original one.

Yup, for sure. Super odd to me still that its broke like it is, but, can't argue with stock fw I guess. Thanks form taking the time to actually trouble shoot the issue. Surprised how many people don't want to take that time.

Ya, it is very odd. Never had that happen to any of the countless phones that I've owned in the past.
Thanks for all your help.
For anyone who might be following the thread, I got the replacement part from Amazon and replaced the the vibrator. Everything is working as expected. Thanks to everyone who replied.
