When you updated from 4.2.2 to 4.3, Samsung made it so you cannot go back to 4.2.2 anymore. 4.3 brings the addition of KNOX. KNOX pretty much tells the carrier or manufacturer if the phone has been rooted and warranty has been voided. 4.2.2 doesn't have KNOX and Samsung made it to where you couldn't downgrade. You can only restore back to 4.3.

Yes, it means warranty is void. There are developers that are trying to see if they can revert this back to 0x0 and get warranty back.

Hello everybody.
As stated in many threads.. "THIS ROOM WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY".
I am currently on leaked 4.3, root, recovery installed. Flash counter is on 0, and everything is ok.
If I want to change rom I'm pretty sure the counter will go to 1. Can I get back to stock via Odin and then using TriangleAway and similar, without losing warranty? By resetting binaries and so on?
I mean, in this firmware version the bootloader and Knox should be ok. Am I right?
Thank you for your help

Thank you for your reply.
If you flash counter is normal, nothing much to worried about status, as this can be corrected with flashing stock ROM/Wiping.

Basically MI6 rom has not Knox related problems, so I should be able to flash and go back if I chose a MI6 based rom, with the same bootloader.
Am I right?
No firmware has been released for note 2 that has a KNOX enabled bootloader uptil XXUEMJ2.
The XXUEMI6 firmware does contain KNOX app but that can be disabled easily. So don't worry about the warranty(in case of MI6)and flash happily.
For devices bought in European Union:

Shortly: No SW installation can void your warranty. We can flash what we want
My ota update keeps failing at 26%. I rooted a couple months back and flashed some roms just out of curiosity and decided I didn't really need my phone to be rooted. I then flashed stock recovery back and reset my binary count. When I go into odin mode nothing shows that something is modified and OTA still does not work. Sorry im a noob but what should I do?
DONT UPDATE !!
If you do...and root is detected...your KNOX flag will trip in the new bootloader...and you will never be able to return to a stock 4.1.2 device.
Also, the flag 0x1 means your warranty is toast.
No bootloader downgrades are possible...
Currently we have no fix for the bootloader or the flag...so if you want the freedom to flash anything....stay on the original bootloader by NOT taking the update...

Hi
I am using Samsung Galaxy Note II GT-N7100
I did a mistake by not doing more research before rooting my phone and now my Knox flag is 0x1.
I upgraded my phone to Android 4.3 then rooted it with Chainfire autoroot using Odin.
Now I am not able to remove KNOX bootloader also if I try to flash a KNOX free bootloader Odin show unsupported device error and device gets soft brick then I have to flash Chainfire autoroot again to start the device again.
Is there any way to get KNOX free bootloader? or to be with Knox bootloader but everything fine like it was before.
Disadvantages are
I can't use Knox feature now.
Cannot update my device OTA or through Samsung Kies so downloading form Sammobile and flashing takes a lot of time.
I don't have any other problem I am running on stock rom 4.3 but I want that I should able to update my mobile OTA and if possible able to use KNOX feature again.
Thank you
Have a nice day

So far, this issue of 0x1 back to 0x0 is still fly high in the air. I read a lot of thread regarding this issue, until I myself also a bit headache
But, from my understanding after reading so many thread... Once it tripped, there's no way to return back. And you can't (theoritically) to revert back to 4.1.2 bootloader, but perhaps, there's a way. And yes, once it tripped, you can't use any KNOX features.
I still have no better conclusion as well regarding this issue. I got read 1 time somebody is able to revert back to 4.1.2, but still with KNOX 0x1. Most are failed. You may want to read all the thread regarding this issue with a search.
I'm here not to answer exactly on how to revert back. But just to share what I know regarding this tripping issue. To be frank... I also want to know about this, as I need to root my MJ7 Note 3, which so far... no solution yet for the tripping KNOX, so I still hold on to it.
YOu can root if you have not trip 0x1 without tripping it.

I also want to know about this said:
I found a way today on the internet that If Note 2 is at 0x0 flag you can root it without increasing the count but it will show custom that you can revert back to original by triangle away may be there is a way for Note 3 too.
I have already rooted so problem starts here

I used triangle away also this is my device status in Downloading mode.
Custom binary download No
Current Binary Samsung Official
System Status Offcial
Knox Warranty Void 1
but in Software update you device is modified. May it is showing you because you have already the latest update. Please can you tell me the Device status in Downloading mode also please report back if you are able or not to download update OTA when available.
Thank you.
Same boat
My phone is in the same boat as you. My desire was not so much KNOX as to have 4.3 with phone encryption and root. In order to succeed with my desire, I have to leave the stock 4.3 recovery intact. This greatly reduces my root options. I had root before the update, but it was unable to update after going to 4.3. I tried Kingo in an attempt to fix root, but to no avail. I decided to unroot and re-root. I used Kingo to unroot. From there I had to run saferoot a few times before it was finally able to install SuperSU and associated files. The version it installed is the latest so I'll have to wait until the next release to find out if it can update. Everything else seems to work fine except ES File Explorer appears to no longer be able to mount the /system RW.
saferoot can be found over here

Hope that helps,

If Knox is active in Download mode u can`t "restore" it to 0x0 ( Warranty OK ) it will remain on 0x1 ( Warranty void )
If u dont have Knox word there, if u flash a stock rom, your status will be Official and no problems with warranty

So again.
Boot your phone in "Download mode"
If u see word "Knox" there u are "out of luck" u will loose warranty if u fiddle with roms/kernels etc. And u CAN NOT restore warranty
If u DO NOT see word Knox u are lucky, do not update your firmware, root it and have fun
Tell me what version of firmware u have
ya i have knox word
if i just root my device and don't change rom and kernel, and In future some hardware fault may occur in my device and i restore official firmware that i have download from sammobile to my phone via odin then my phone will be on warranty or not?
plz clarify

If u full unroot it from Supersu app or if u flash SAME version of firmware that u have on phone now ( not older ) yes at warranty service they won`t notice.
Do not flash any custom kernel or that flag in download mode will become 0x1. That flag u CAN NOT reset. U want to keep it 0x0

Just rooting via Saferoot or similar methods will NOT trip knox = warranty intact.
Flash anything with odin WILL trip knox = warranty void.
Using custom ROM and Kernel WILL trip knox = warranty void.
So if your phone has problem, you have to remove root manually, which is explained at Saferoot post, any many thread, search for it.
If you phone does not boot, you can only send it back to Samsung.
you are using the same firmware as me of the same region , now here is the thing about knox which is baffling me , i have read a lot on this according to tons of ppl everywhere if you flash this rom with any custom kernel, root it, your knox warranty is void i.e 0x1 and there is no way to revert that and for reasons unknown i have flashed my kernel 3 times with custom kernels , rooted it of course and even flashed the stock rom via odin to correct some mess up and knox status is still 0x0 only my binary status is custom which is to be expected but knox is still 0x0 that i don't understand and the op's firmware , baseband, is exactly the same as mine !!!
@op knox is just software warranty and plz don't try anything on the my post i am still trying to figure why it still 0x0 but as SilviuMik pointed out if flash anything custom is would void knox warranty .
I have downloaded same firmware I9192DDU1BLM1 just for back up
now I want to know that if I follow root procedure of acro68, will it change my knox counter to 0x1 ?
Sorry if m irritating but m scaring because recently I have bricked an android just recently and now I cannot made same mistake again

If u use that method u will trigger Knox arco68`s method implies u change kernel / recovery . That will trigger Knox
Try saferoot ( not sure if it will work ) or Kingoroot
Ok thnx I will try another safe method that doesn't ise download mode or odin
M thinking about to use unlockroot , saferoot , aio flasher tool and tell you about the result

Sent from my GT-I9192
I may need to send my phone in to Bell or Samsung, and I want to make sure it's back to its original, untampered state. I have rooted it twice before, so first I want to make sure my Flash Counter is at 0. I went into Download mode and I have no idea what any of the stuff written there means so I can't tell whether the Flash Counter has been tripped or not.
So two questions:
1: How do I tell whether I need to reset the flash counter, and...
2: How do I reset the flash counter, if I need to (Will Triangle Away from Play Store work with a 4.4.2 device??)
Thanks
If you are stock and 4.3 or above, your Knox has more than likely been tripped by root so warranty is void. Samsung won't touch it. See if you can post a screenshot of download mode and the more knowledgeable guys can let you know for sure.

The first time I rooted I was on 4.2 using the no-tripping-flash method found on this forum. The second time I rooted was last week when I used TowelRoot, so I'm 99.9999999% sure that tripped the counter. I'm currently running the stock Bell 4.4.2 ROM that they pushed back in June, with TWRP recovery (I was planning on flashing CarbonROM, but that plan has changed)
Here's what it says in download mode:
Product Name: SGH-I747
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
Warranty Bit: 1
Bootloader AP SWERV: 2

You tripped knox and the warranty bit has been changed from 0 to 1. Samsung may or may not provide warranty service.

So I'm basically SOL? A quick search on Google showed that it's not possible to reset Knox.
Any way I can revert the phone to stock unrooted at least? I'm having trouble finding a Odin-flashable 4.4.2 Bell file (the 2 links I found are dead). Could I use a 4.3 file to flash?
No way to reset it that I know of.
It is an refuse that gets tripped.
