My charging dock doesn't seem to be working. It's the original one that came in the box with the Z1. The phone does recognize the dock as it automatically opens the photo slideshow thingy and switches to landscape mode, but it's not getting any power through the dock. I've tried plugging the dock into many different wall adapters, including the original one, but it still refuses to charge.
Is the dock broken in some way or is it the phone's connectors that are causing this? I only got the phone a few weeks back and I don't understand why it's doing this. The dock wouldn't charge it even the first time I tried it, and that was just an hour or two after unboxing.

Not sure if this is a related issue, but when I use the magnetic charger, it charged the phone relatively quickly the first time I attached the cable. Subsequent charging after that seems to be significantly slower (takes more than 6 hours to reach 100%).
Something wrong with the cable or the connection?
Try the other magnetic charger
You can use a magnetic charging cable to test that is the dock broken or are the phone's connectors broken.

First of all ensure that the copper connectors in the dock as well as on the side of the phone are in contact when you place the phone in the dock.
I too have purchased a genuine Sony Dock - DK 31 from Hong Kong as it is still not available in India. At first I too had the same issue of not getting any power through the dock. But I dis- assembled it to take out the cable and directly connected it to the phone. Great ... it was then working fine. So i re-assembled it back to normal and now it is working great. But at times i have to try 2-3 times to get the contact alignment right when placing the phone in the dock.

Cable can be removed from the dock by simply removing two screws from the bottom of the dock

Yeah ... Genuine Sony Magnetic Charging Cable EC 21
Connect and See
Using the very same cable... In settings and the status bar it shows that it's charging, but very slowly. After an hour or so, even asleep, I get a message that the phone is discharging faster than it's charging.

Hi, I have a Galaxy Nexus (GSM) ordered from Google Play with all it's accessories (HDMI Desktop Dock and 3-Pin Vehicle Dock).
I've used the 3-Pin Vehicle Dock with my Nexus without any problems for 5 days but suddenly it stopped to charge my phone and doesn't work anymore, my phone can't even identify the dock.
I did a few tests:
Tested it with another car [not working]
Tested connecting the micro USB charger from the Vehicle Dock directly to the phone [not working]
Tested my HTC micro USB charger with the Vehicle Dock [not working]
(I know the output from the original charger is different, may this can be the reason)
Tested my HTC micro USB charger directly to the phone [working]
I noticed the fact that the micro USB connector from the Vehicle Dock only have 4 contacts, as can be seen in this picture: http://imm.io/D9C0

Is that correct? Anyone have a official Vehicle Dock bought from Google Play and can take a look on it?
If anyone have another suggestion it would be great too.
Many thanks!
It should work with the desktop charger I believe. I tested it like this before I put it in my car. Also for my car dock I never used the official charger as I didn't like the cable sticking out. Instead I used a standard micro usb to usb cable and ebay 1A usb car charger behind the dashboard so all the wires were hidden.
This suggests to me it should work for you with the normal charger.
What I would expect you to have is either situation 2 or 3 of your suggestions to work, otherwise both the charger and dock would appear to be broken which seems unlikely. Can you double check?

Well, I used a HTC micro USB charger with 2A output, not 1A as expected by the dock, and with the normal charger it's working, so there's nothing wrong with the dock itself, probably the charger is broken.

I think it's a good option since my dock is working and I didn't like all the wires too. Do you recommend any specific item from ebay?
Thank you for your help!
When I use GPS and want to charge from car charger, phone drops battery percentage, little slower then without a charger, but still dropping. So I thought that the charger is not strong enough, and bought another one with 3.1A, little better but still dropping. Then I try with home charger and no dropping, the GPS is working and battery is charging!
Is that normal, that the car charger can not charge the battery when the phone is in heavy use? The home charger have only 1A, and car 3.1A.
Try NOT using an original HTC cable but instead a generic cable.
I recently purchased an external battery pack to charge my phone while on the move, I thought it would be best to use an original HTC cable but found it was charging to slow, when I checked in settings- power it stated at the top that it wasn't Charging as AC.
I suggest you go to your car and plug in your phone
Then go to: settings - power, check if your phone is charging as AC, if not you'll need to try with another cable ( check screenshot)

I don't use original cable anyway, have other cable in car. Check it and it say AC.
Adapter is this one:
That's really strange mate, I don't have this issue, is there any possibility of trying a different car charger & or cable?, maybe a friend's just to eliminate it as a possibility.
I tried today different things, original htc charger and cable, different charger and cable, and all of that in different car...
The best was with original htc charger and non-original cable. Phone start charging and i think that was that, BUT...
After approximately half an hour, start discharging again, and i think that i accidentally move the cable, but the red charging led was glowing. When checked in power settings, there say "discharging". I disconnect the charger and connect again, start charging but after a minute it stop. Some overheating, maybe?
It sounds like that could be the problem (over heating) maybe you should try a different kernel and undervolt a little to see if it will help.
Ok, I can try, I'm currently on Lyapota's 023 kernel and Viper X 4.1.1, everything else working very well.
I use #017 pre aroma and it runs very cool
Yes, lot's of people says that this version is the best, I would try it.
So, you try to use gps and the phone charging ok with Lyapota 017? Which rom you use?
I have not had any problem using GPS and charging, I use the lates t MaximusHD.
Ok, thanks, will try with 017 and report back.
Edit:
I didn't know that this is a very common problem, that the cable is the one who can't supply enough current. I found many articles about this problem, and found something very interesting on Youtube. Will try this tomorrow and report if it works.

Bought a magnetic cable from ebay, which had all the sony retail boxing but the build seemed cheap. After a week usage, I am noticing terrible charging rate. Having kept my phone over night for charging, I still see only 5-10% increase. But when I switch to USB Cable, it charges noticeably faster (Quick Charge)
So to verify that the cable had issue, I installed this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manor.currentwidget
Would like to know to how much charging current do they get on USB and on Magnetic Cable.
Mine are as follows.

I had the same effect once but it never happened again. I noticed the magnetic charger was charging extremely slowly but the issue went away after I had fully charged the Z1C and it never came back again :S.
You've probably checked, but make sure the magnetic charger is sitting properly in the connector?

The easiest way to check is to install elixir2 and check how high is value. In my case my magnetic cabel charge fast as normal usb cabel. Average speed of charging about 800-900mah when i do something on phone. Original charger can provide 1500mah so when you use your phone you must 1500-that what phones need=charging value. I had another magbetic cabel earlier and it charge terribly slowly. But new one works gr8.

Same here, got a cheap cable from eBay and keeping the screen on decreased the battery status quicker than it actually charged. 5-10% over night. Different cable, all fine. I even modified the contacts of the first cable to ensure a proper connection but that also didn't help. Some cables are just trash. Now I ordered another two of the second cable and they also work fine, same charging speed as via USB.
EDIT: Please move this to Q&A and help section.. sorry.
Hello fellow tablet users.
Since the lost 2 weeks my tablet has been acting weird. It jumps alot on the battery levels, one second having 50% then 13% then suddenly 3% then plugging in the charger it has 50%.
I've tried to charge it fully then making a battery calibration but with no luck.. what should I do next? Full reset?
Kind regards,
Ratty
If you have the 8.4" it`s most likely an bad battery connection, due to an bad power connector or the part of the connector that is soldered to the motherboard coming loose, it`s an common problem with the 8.4" with people bending it while in back pockets ect, less of an problem with the 10.5" as you would need an hell of a back pocket.
Samsung knows about this problem, and according to one 8.4" owner replaced the battery connector with an more heavy duty version, some people say to solder the battery wires directly to the motherboard.
It`s quite easy to open the Tab S, lots of video`s on youtube and you just need an plastic pry tool they call an spluger or an guitar pick, I got an spluger on ebay for £1 an replacement battery is £9 an full kit is around $60 for battery and tools if you can do the job yourself.

Reset won't solve a hardware problem, it's very common in Samsung tablets : cracked or loose battery connector : male and female.
This is a close look of female connector:

If it's not fully contact with male connector's pins, you will have battery fluctuation in capacity. The fix is simple: push the opening closer for all six cables.
This is the male connector , it's re soldered to fix battery quick discharge or capacity fluctuation
I'm having this problem for a long time on my TabS 10.5". I think it's time to discard this device but I'm low of budget to buy a good tablet now, is it secure to open it and bypass battery using direct connection to charging cable from the original USB cable? There are some videos on how to do it, but none of this device.
They are not engineered the same as laptops. They always run off the battery, whether the tablet is plugged in or not. This is a series arrangement. A laptop has power source switcher inside and can run off either; that's a parallel arrangement.
The battery completes the circuit. The charge cord doesn't connect directly to the tablet because the battery is in between. Outlet-->charge cord-->battery-->tablet. You can't just jump over a step. The battery completes the circuit. The charge cord doesn't connect directly to the tablet because the battery is in between. Outlet-->charge cord-->battery-->tablet. You can't just jump over a step.
They are designed on an idea that the user will use it on the go, rather than sitting at a fixed location connected to a charger.
As such, the internal circuitry of a tablet allows the device to work only when the battery is connected to it.
Bypass the battery for direct connection
Hi,
I have a similar connector for the battery on a Samsung Tab GT-P5200.
I want to directly connect the (two) wires from USB power source and bypass the defective battery and the normal mimi USB connector.
Therefore can someone help me out with matching the colours?
Tere is just +-(red/black wires on USB) and the connector from the battery has two red, two bue and two black.
I presume at least two should charge the battery and other two should transport the charge from the battery. And the blue ones maybe for control?
Please give me your though, or maybe suggest other place on the bord co connect directly.
Thank you!

Hi, higher charging rates are established via protocol negotiation or preset voltage levels on USB data lines, so in your N7 the following could be faulty:
USB connector
soldering of the connector
connection of the wide silver cable between PCBs
Attach your N7 to a PC and check if MTP works. If not, then one of the above will fix the problem.
How do I know if MTP works?

this started on mine as well. was going to blame the 7.1.1 rom I am running on it as it started the same time I flashed it. Try a wireless qi charging pad
mines charging at 475ma..is this normal or still low, using the official charger unit, but a megnetic cable
checked again, 810ma now
Mine had major problems with touchscreen and charging.
I did the following and fixed all the issues:
1. Disconnect the battery (lift the connector up to disconnect).
2. Disconnect the white flex cable on both sides (lift the little latch up and you should be able to pull out the cable).
3. Clean the flex cable connectors with 99% isopropanol alcohol and q tips (until no grey residue comes off any more).
4. Take out the usb board. Clean the the touchscreen flex cable the same way (the two smaller flex cables next to the white one).
5. Take out the screws of the USB board. Use the q tips and alcohol and clean all of the copper colored groundplanes.
6. Clean out the usb port with some alcohol, while you are at it.
7. Plug in a usb cable and check if it's loose in the socket, if that is the case, use some needle nose pliers and bend the port back to shape (be very careful). Then testfit the cable again.
8. Reassemble everything and test it.
This should've fixed your charge problems, problems with auto rotation and ghost touches, or bad touch recognition.
It has fixed mine
EDIT:
I started off with 50-100ma charge current (wouldn't charge over night) and can now charge with 920ma again (Anker charger and good usb cable).
