Hi,
With the latest revelation of the Pro tablets with the amazing Magazine UI, It got me thinking what If the Note 10.1 2014 doesnt get the update, I really hope it does but If it doesn't, Will it be possible to install the UI in the device like a custom rom or something?
Please help, I am looking forward to purchasing the 10.1 2014, and If it's possible , I will definitely purchase it because I cant wait for 12.2, Very impatient lol and moreover 12.2 wont be portable enough, atleast that's what i am telling myself so that I can go thru with buying the 10.1
please help
Like you, I was waiting for the new tablets mainly because of the rumor they'd have amoled screens. After seeing the new tablets all have the same internals as the note 10.1 2014, same processor, resolution and same screen (tabpro 10.1 anyway) I ordered my note 10.1 2014 immediately. With these tabs sharing such exact specs I don't see the note 10.1 2014 not getting the kitkat update. I expect it will come just as the new tabs arrive if not before. Besides, the 12.2 is too big for me and way more than I'd want to pay, so this makeshift notepro 10.1 we call the note 10.1 2014 is the sweetspot for me.

How do you expect help when nobody here has seen or touched new UI? Given smart developers here, chances are good it will get ported to 10.1, if Samsung doesn't update 10.1.
Buy this tablet from Costco (if you're in US), they have 90 days return policy. By then new tablets may be out and you'll have choices.
Since the hardware and resolution is identical the rom would run on our devices without modification. So I'd say that chances are close to a 100% that it will get ported if samsung doesn't release an update.
Seeing that they will keep selling this tablet to at least october or and they could release an update with little to no extra work I can't see why they wouldn't release an update when the new tablets are released.
thanks
thanks so much, I finally purcahsed it and it's wonderful

forgot to mention i didn't want to spend too much on this and plus i wouldn't consider the s4 because of smaller screen
If you don't want to spend to much go for the Note 2, it will get updated to the next android version plus is still a good phone overall. But if the big screen is a problem for you, look other brands like LG or HTC both have good phones. I will suggest other than the note the Nexus 4 but thats just my opinion.

For me pros of note 2 are: 2 gb ram, smoothness, touchwiz features like multiwindow..
Cons are looks like s3(i prefer rectangular shape like note 1 and s2),screen si not full HD.
How are the roms on this section of xda? that's a killer for me.....i'd like a vibrant community with plenty of ROM's and mods to offer
i like the oppo find 5 though

I don't like to much custom ROMs but I have flashed Paranoid and CM 10.1 Nightlies but none of them was good to me. So I use Android Rev. I think you could find great ROMs but I think there is not too many like in the Galaxy Y forum
Hey guys,
I've been thinking about the 8 inch version of this tablet for about a month. Bought one in Australia for my Mum and she loves the pants off it (her first tablet).
There's a special on at the moment in NL which brings it down to 200 euros which is a fairly decent price, but I also have the option of picking up a 2012 Nexus 7 new for 170. I've read some really terrible things about the 2013 nexus 7 and a fair few complaints about build quality on the 2012 version. I'm a student and if I buy something, it needs to genuinely last for a good two years (preferably more) to be worth the cost. Have you guys been happy with the quality of your devices?
I have noticed that there isn't much development for this device. Is this just because root has only recently been found? Or is there not much interest because of the Nexus family? I've always focused on development in buying devices and it's helped me squeeze four years out of my HTC Desire bravo and three years out of a friend's Galaxy S i9000.
So essentially what I'm asking is, does it seem like development might pick up in the future, and if not, is the quality of the device high enough that it would be worth trading off development potential? Sorry to ask such a general question, but I'm tearing my hair out trying to make a decision while the nexus 7 2012 is still in stock.
Thanks in advance!
I'm looking for a 8inch tablet too trying to decide between the LG g pad or the tab 8.0 the LG has much better hd screen and a quad core processor

same here. I got the Tab 3 8.0 and I love it. But now I want the LG 8.3. I already have a plan to give my tab to my daughter since she plays with ti and get the LG. But I'll wait for a sale on it.
ROMs Available
Are there ANY roms other than AOSP? I can't even find a Cyanogenmod or AOKP for this device :/
I see that some customers are complain about screen brightness on the LG is dull. Compare to Samsung

I had the Nexus 7 2012 and currently have the GTab 3 8.0. I had no problems whatsoever with the Nexus. It was a good tablet. I just found the screen dark and cramped. I love the GTab 3 8.0. So it's not "retina". Big deal. The screen is crisp and bright and looks great to me. The tablet runs smooth and fast.
Honestly between those two models it's between screen size and whether having an SD slot is important to you. They are both great tablets.
Would you change your tab 3 8.0 for a LG pad?

Well, now I need to research if the Note 10.1 2014 is getting the new gui with kitkat. Spec wise, they are virtually the same other than the pen and the tabpro is 2gb ram vs 3gb ram on the 2014. Might need an exchange, if so.
in my opinion, for the difference in price i would get the 2014 10.1 IF I wanted another 10 inch tablet. I have an iPad now but want a smaller tablet, hence getting the 8.4. Had the new nexus 7 and it was too small, especially using the note 3 as my phone.

I personally agree, especially since coming from a Note 10.1 (original) or tab 2, it is far smaller. That said, 7 and 8" tabs are extremely popular..

Haha yeah probably large parts. Though if I'm honest the magazine UI is pretty slick and it would be awesome to have more control over sources and what's displayed. Back when I had my HTC one a lot of people hated blinkfeed without knowing how to make it interesting to them, once there were ways add your own sources most people converted!

I need it within my 14 day return period. I am still deciding between my original note 10.1 and this tabpro 10.1. Still think I prefer the original multi-windows method. But, I want to be fair and have the root required multi-window app installed which increases it's capabilities.

I miss a lot of the LG apps but yes, it's worth the switch. The screen is far brighter (my biggest peeve with the gpad when watching movies). While I totally love my gpad and will miss it, the screen was an issue. The screen is bright and wonderful on the tab pro 8.4, as is the performance and battery life.
Same as cmscritic. I too loved my G Pad but the screen brightness (especially with movies) was a drawback to me. I also have the Note 3 and the Pro 8.4 looks just like a blown up version with new ui. Another build of Cm11 was released today and it looks like he fixed bluetooth so I'm fixing to give that a try. Go with the Pro , you'll never look back

I honestly don't know whether or not it works on any UK tab pro 8.4s. I know that there are 3 hardware revisions and the latest one definitely won't work (they have different kernel source for the USA vs. European editions) but otherwise the source code is looking the same. I'm going to try to get them all working soon.
At some point, I'll be asking for brave people to test builds that I can't myself test.

Tab S 10.5 , Note Pro, Tab Pro are all Exynos too and they all got the update to Lollipop, some to 5.1.
In fact they run the exact same Exynos as us, so there's not much work to be done (in that regard) anyways...
So -yeah- nothing to do with it being Exynos... In fact I'd be much surprised if we were not to get Lolipop too. It's Samsung's pattern, their last update is greeeatly overdue but they eventually deliver. Of course we'll never get Marshmallow as it's over the 2 year window during which Samsung typically supports her products... and then they wonder why Apple is No1 in profits. Ipad 2, a 4.5 year old device and it is still getting updates (ios 4.2.1 to ios 9+ !!)

I agree though that 5.1.1 would have been nice at this point. Hell, my LG prepaid phone (which was also only $100) got its first Lollipop update BEFORE this $500 tablet.
Interested to see this update in action though, I hope it gets to the SM-P600 within the next week.

First thing right off the bat, comparing to the exynos on the Note pro 12.2, had some lag issues, Google play store issues, but could have been a bad download. As far as new features, very similar features to the Note Pro's 5.0.2. Only thing that is not there is the toolbox bar which can save up to 5 favorite apps. I will test the Bluetooth to see if it skips like the Note Pro and the Note 4.

Maybe you need to do a full wipe (factory reset) via recovery.. (to resolve lag and google play issues)
Can you tell me if has popup windows (like note 4 and note 12.2 5.02)?
