I'm currently on a 4.3 touchwiz rom and I was wondering if it's possible to jump to 4.4.2 and revert back to touchwiz 4.3?
I read about the Knox security thing and I understand I can't go back to 4.1 or any prior touchwiz builds.
I just want to make sure if I go to KitKat and I find it unstable to make it my DD. I atleast have the option to go back to touchwiz.
I normally used Odin to go back to touchwiz(4.1.2) when I used AOSP(4.2.2) does that still work?

It's possible. I recently had to do a warranty on my phone and the refurb I got had the latest 4.3. I just updated the recovery to CWM and rooted it using Chainfire's method then updated to the latest Superuser; after doing that and reloading SU it asked me if I wanted to disable Samsung Knox. After hitting yes and disabling it, I flashed it to CM 11. I decided I didn't like it and restored an to an earlier backup of the rooted stock 4.1.2 and have had no problems. As long as you make sure to disable Samsung Knox first and make a backup just in case you should be fine.

4.3 touchwiz has been upgraded and rom is better than 4.1.2! If you never want to root your phone , you could try the new update!

Upgrade
If you are pleased with the current image stick with it. But if you want to have additional features that you can only get with an upgrade ten theres your answer answer. It will require some reading. ie... work I upgraded my T999 form CM 10.0 to CM 11.0 and after all the work i have a new phone with the latest greatest.
Good Luck.....

I upgraded my T999L to Docs 4.3 rom, I was stock 4.1.2 rooted. Everything seems to works well. Good battery life & no FCs. If you can live without the warranty, go for it.

Rooted with CWM recovery.
edit : I mean I am rooted & have CWM recovery installed.
I just upgraded to 4.3 rooted. Here are what I found I lost so far:
1. Wifi Tether using the third party WifiTether app.
2. Voodoo Root Keeper
3. ISIS wallet.
4. Ability to go back to 4.1.2.
You should root it! It's awesome!
I was using sxr 4.3 and I reverted back to 4.1.2. Still buggy for me and 4.1.2 has a quicker response.
The difference from 4.1.2. To 4.3 isn't a big difference.
So I would say stay on 4.1.2 until further notice

Are you able to simply Odin 4.1.2? I thought it could brick ur phone.

Thanks this has been super helpful. I think I am going to steer clear of updating and knox for now. I'll either remain rooted at 4.1.2 or drop a 4.3 ROM on it.
There are several really good 4.3 roms you can use with the 4.1.2 baseband and boot loader. I'm using anthem v2 right now which is based on aokp, great rom with a ton of options built in. Unless you need wifi calling I don't see a need to use TW based roms.
I do actually need wifi calling, but this thread might well be moot at this point. I just had a slip and fall, didn't hurt myself, but I'm afraid my S3 broke my fall. Literally, its smashed.
So, the new question is, S3 LTE, S4, or Nexus 5.
I'm on 4.1.2 but with the mk7 basband.. is there a flashable file so I can put it back to stock so I can do the official 4.3 update? I think I rather have that even tho I can't go back to any 4.1.x.. having too many issues with 4.3 roms without the updated bootloader, kernels are even.messing up camera etc. So I'm figuring do the update so I don't need a custom kernel.. or is there a flashable STOCK kernel I can flash so I can use Triangle Away and then just do the OTA update.. just frustrated as hell trying to troubleshoot everything.. I respect and thank all the devs I'm sure its either user error or my misunderstanding and knowledge. Never had this type of struggling with any devices from my HTC HD2, SGS2, SGS3, .. I'm just gonna chunk it up to being remedial or something and acknowledge defeat on this Device

If you are interested, I have debloated the Stock 4.3 ROM, rooted it and packed it with TMBBMD1 bootloader.
This ROM has the stock kernel, I have been running it for a while so far no issues. I am planning on uploading it on XDA.
If not, the easiest option would be to
1) Flash MrRobinsons, stock rooted TMBBMD1 ROM
2) Run triangle away to reset counter.
3) Uninstall SuperSU, this can be done from the application itself.
4) Perform a factory reset
Now your phone will be on stock 4.1.2 and if you check for updates you will get the 4.3 OTA.

I am looking to buy a Note 2 from eBay and the seller is not sure which android version it is on. I'm expecting worst case scenario which is that the phone is 4.3. If I were to get it and it has the 4.3 stock ROM, is there any chance I could roll back to it?
Yes,
You can downgrade the OS but not the bootloader.
You can flash 4.1.x custom ROM's as long as bootloader is not included, which is how almost all ROM's are packed.
You can still flash 4.1.2 stock using Mobile odin as mobile Odin does not flash the bootloader.

Sweet as long as I can put custom ROMs on it then, I'm happy. I'm sure Knox would be tripped regardless if I tried to go back to 4.1 stock
Hello all,
I just have a few questions regarding my note 2 sgh-i317 which I've just received from ebay on Thursday. As soon as I got it I rooted and flashed cymod 10.2 because up until this point I didn't want anything stock on my previous galaxies. Before I flashed though, I messed around with s-note and was highly dismayed that I'm not able to mount touchwiz apps. I tried changing apk permissions through es and move to system/app folder to no avail. Then I thought I would settle for Papyrus since thats what my wife has on her rooted/omni rommed note 10.1. I'm not happy with that app or the fact that there is not a 4.4.2 update for the note 2s yet. I'm thinking the only way to get s pen features to work with the good apps it was designed to work with, is to go back to stock.Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well as the thread link for the stable 4.3 stock rom download as TWRP didn't back it up right before flashing.
Thanks in advance

I was on an aosp and flashed 4.3 alliancerom. Like it a lot. Because of the whole bootloader thing with 4.3 and that I didn't update mine my wifi didnt work as I was told it wouldn't. So I heard somewhere to flash a kernel called devil kernel and it made everything work like a charm not to mention the kernel is awesome. It has a app in the playstore to manage it. It also works on both touch wiz and aosp. The best thing is it also allows for dual boot between aosp and touchwiz. I have a backup that I access from cwm. I go back and forth between CyanogenMod and touchwiz all the time.

I can't get any other kernels too flash until I unlock the bootloader though right? Mine had the OTA and I'm still on the MK6 baseband. I found 2 UCUBMK6 Param tar files which are supposed to work but I'm still seeing and unchanged flash count and knox trip displayed while in download mode. I really want to go to alliance and just am not sure what my next step should be. Thanks for your previous input and devil kernel does sound sweet...hopefully I'll get to enjoy it soon:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Negatory. Flashing kernel and Alliance will work.
You're stuck on the MK6 bootloader, which is fine. DO NOT try to flash a bootloader !
I'm planning on upgrading to another phone so I'm trying to get this counter on my phone reset to 0, then unrooting.
Right now I am on the latest version of Insanity ROM Android 4.3 MK2 Baseband .
I tried resetting the counter using TriangleAway earlier, but I noticed I needed to be on a stock Samsung kernel.
So I found one (and this same thing happened when I tried to flash a stock rooted ROM with MDL) on XDA directly for the T-Mobile S4, only to find out that after flashing, it wouldn't get past the black screen after the SGS4 logo comes on.
Luckily, I restored back
I know how to unroot and everything I just want to ask before I do this,. Can I go ahead on using Triangle Away on my current rom? And then do the unrooting process?
If you took the OTA 4.3 you are Sol. If you still have the MDL bootloader you can Odin the MDL stock image then root and triangle away and then unroot. You will be good to go then.

No, I never had it updated when I bought it from Tmo as Android 4.2.2 . So you're saying with even with the current custom 4.3 Android & custom kernel that I have right now I can Odin the MDL? (Unroot, Root, TriangleAway, unroot?)

Yes. If you never took the OTA and only flashed the mk2 modem you can absolutely Odin the stock MDL ROM and root, triangle away then unroot (in that order) You'll be good to go then. Just make sure you're binary found is at 0 by booting into download mode when you're done.

I'm having the same problem when I got my s4 I didn't know anything about Knox or all the other headaches that come with rooting this phone!! But me being me as soon as I opened the phone I updated it to 4.3 then rooted it not knowing I wouldnt be able to return to stock! Even tho I did backup my stock rooted phone my phone will not let me restore to it so I've been stuck on beanstalk 4.4 but really want to go back to stock rooted cause of the camera!! Haha.... I'm new to the s4 so I'm still learning more about it I had an s2 before this and that was all cake walk flashing and what not. I just want to know if Odin is an option for me to return to stock or not?? I think I backed it up through lies before ota 4.3

From what I've read in other threads you cannot downgrade bootloaders so if you took th OTA you can't go back to 4.2. From what I understand it will brick your phone. If you are already 4.3 and rooted you have already voided your warranty. You may as well Odin the stock 4.3 and root again so you can flash other Roms since you are stuck on 4.4.
