[ROOT GUIDE]How to root the Galaxy Young series. - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 General

hi guys, a friend of mine had the Galaxy Y S5369 from Vodafone and it didnt had root for it. I decided to make a universal root zip for the Galaxy Y series running STOCK android 2.3.X .
This will work with the following models (maybe other Galaxy ones too, this a preatty universal method among Galaxy devices. You can try this on other modes on your own risk)
Samsung Galaxy Y series
- GT-S5360
- GT-S5360B
- GT-S5360L
- GT-S5360T
- GT-S5363
- GT-S5367
- GT-S5368
- GT-S5369
NOTE: if in recovery you get an error like CANT MOUNT SDCARD, CANNOT FIND /sdcard you need to format your sd into a card reader. Then retry.
NOTE THAT BY FLASHING THIS ZIP OR ANY OTHER FORM OF CUSTOM FIRMWARE, RECOVERY YOUR WARRANTY IS VOIDED. I, MYSELF OR ANY OTHER MEMBER OF XDA ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU MAY CAUSE TO YOUR DEVICE. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND NOTE ALSO THAT YOU WILL FLASH THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Instructions

-turn off the phone
-reboot into recovery (volume up+home+power)
-choose apply update from sdcard
-select from the sd the update.zip file

If you're using SuperSU:-
1. Open the app.
2. Go to the Settings tab.
3. Under Cleanup, tap on the full unroot. Tap Yes.
4. If your device is stuck on reboot, just pull the battery and insert it back.

Hi,
I have a Samsung GS-S5360 with Android 2.3.6. After installing update.zip I see the "superuser" app installed. But when I open ES file Explorer setting root explorer to delete some apps, i get an error message "This function is not supported in your device".
Is maybe the superuser.apk an outdated version of the apk?
Thank you!

i have update it and superuser is installed but when am trying to unlock it. still says root your phone? s5369

Cyanogen is a 3rd party, modified OS for your phone. It replaces your current Operating System and gives you tons of benefits. I found it hard to use stock after using CM because of what it offers
Here's a link to the features http://www.cyanogenmod.com/about/features
but it does offer more than what's mentioned on that page.

Thank you ryant22. I have a doubt Can I flash any rom from cwm? Is there any process of changing the kernel or unlocking the bootloader or must use of odin? for sony ericsson x10 mini pro I had to do all that, so just to confirm.... please help

Just picked up a S5830 in the UK.
Out of the box the device came with:
Android 2.3.6 build XWKT5
Baseband S5830NEKT2
SuperOneClick 2.3.3 does not work on this build, and I need root to remove simlock.
Is the root method in the OP working on all S5830 versions, or specific baseband/rom?
*update* Tried it and confirmed working on above phone.
Also please include instructions for n00bs on how to get into recovery mode on a stock S5830.
"Hold home button and Power on"
In stock recovery select "apply update from sdcard"

Rooting Captivate Glide on version 4.0.4

This is how to root your samsung captivate glide on ICS version 4.0.4
Step 1
Go over to http://androidsu.com/superuser/ and scroll down to ARM devices (2.0 – 4.1). Then you will see 3.2-RC2 under it is a link to the download, click it to start the download.
Step 2
Ounce you have downloaded it you want to put it onto the root of your SD card. You can do this by putting it onto your external SD card and copying it over to the root of your phone.
Step 3
Boot into CWMR. You can do this by shutting your phone down completely and ounce its shut off you hold down power and the volume down button.
Step 4
After you boot into CWMR you want to install zip from SD card so hit the volume keys to move up and down and click install zip from SD card. Then you scroll down to where the Superuser zip file is and flash it.
Step 5
Finally, once you have flashed it you want to reboot your phone by going back to main menu and clicking reboot. Now your done!! Just wait for your phone to boot up and you have successfully rooted your phone!
If you don't have CWMR after flashing ICS with the OneClick-Tool use this Guide for reflashing CWMR:
[RECOVERY][7/11/12][I927(R)]Clockwork Mod Touch Recovery 6.0.0.1 (STABLE)
A Working Download Link is somewhere one the last pages of this thread.

On that page it only has 3.2-RC3 now intead of 3.2-RC2. Is that basically the same thing but a newer version or something completely different that I don't want?
It shouldn't matter its just the newer version of superuser.

When rooting 4.0.4 can you get it so you can overclock to 1.2ghz like the other rooting guide says?
No, though at some point in the future we'll be able to. Overclocking is something that requires kernel support, and samsung hasn't released the source for the kernel we're using with ICS, so no custom kernels that will work with ICS have been made yet. Once that source is released, it's fairly simple to add overclocking support, and someone will have a custom kernel up fairly quickly. Then you'll just need to flash that, and overclock away.

Is this smeant to work on the Rogers version SGH-i927R with stock Android 2.3 as well or only 4.0.4 ??
I tried the steps and there were no errors during install but its seems to have only half taken.
That is:
Superuser: Runs and says its rooted. It lists apps given root priv.
Root Checker: Says its rooted.
Titanium Backup: Says not all requirements met on startup and stays on black screen saying aquiring rights.
My Backup Root: Given root but when actually starting a backup it stays at 0%.
Directoy Bind: Given root but when it actually goes to create a link it hangs.

Create.a thread in the general forum explaining exactly what you did and when your phone errors
Sorry to continue this thread at such a late date, but I have tried this and am having problems getting it to work.
I have a refurb Captivate Glide that AT&T gave me when the screen died on the original one. Samsung KIES would not update the refurb phone to ICS no matter what I did, so I had to read everything I could to learn to use ODIN to do the ICS update. I got that done (no thanks to AT&T), but now I want to root the device so that I can. tweak the performance and use "rooted apps."
I readily admit that I am a noob... However, I followed the directions in this thread and I am not ending up with a rooted device. I downloaded the ZIP as instructed, I put it in the root of what shows up as "Phone" for the SGH-I927 device in my Win computer's File Manager, rebooted the phone into recovery mode, selected apply update from external storage, then selected "..\", and then reboot. (There was no option to select the ZIP file directly... also, I see some references on the web to the file needing to be named update.zip... do I need to rename the zip?)
The Root Checker app tells me that the phone is not rooted. The app locates the Superuser app (I installed it from Google Play), but it cannot find the su bin.
Any suggestions?

External storage in recovery (CWM, right? If not, you have to install clockwork mod recovery via ODIN) is your SD card. You need to put the .zip file on the SD then.
You can also install root zip from internal, so you have to put the zip on the Phone part in windows explorer.
The correct zip should be selected in recovery when installing.

Thank you for your reply. When I load the My Files app on the phone and scroll to the bottom, I see the Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip file in the phone's /sdcard folder. Is that as it should be?
When boot the phone into recovery, all I see is folders to select from when I select to update from external storage... I do not see a specific file that I can select. Regarding CWM, I thought that was just another name for the phone recovery mode at boot up... Is CWM something different?
Again, thanks a lot for you assistance.

CWM = Clockwork mod recovery, its needed to install any .zip update, and it differs from the default one. You cannot install any update unless the official one (I guess) via the default recovery.

Ok, thanks for setting me straight and for the link. A couple of questions...
1) I know how to do the update via Odin, since I updated to ICS w/ Odin. However, before I flash the CWM to the phone, can you tell me if I am going to lose anything (data, apps, etc.) before I do that? I will do a backup, but I would prefer not to have to restore everything on the phone again. (ICS update was bumpy... lost some stuff and restore from backup did not work as well as hoped)
2) Will installing the CWM prevent me from installing other firmware updates in the future?
(e.g., maybe a future Jelly Bean update for Samsung Capivate Glide? )
Again, thanks for all of your generous assistance.
different file, but works.

I had very easy method to flash which i did try by myself and work perfect with T889:
1. download cwm6-recovery-n7100-121014.tar :https://hotfile.com/dl/176065007/332...21014.tar.html
2.download CWM SUPERSU installable ZIP:http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1538053 ( copy this file into your EXcard )
3.Download PC Odin : http://d-h.st/6Er
4.1.Open Odin and select PDA tab
2.Point to extracted file cwm6-recovery-n7100-121014.tar
3.Now switch off device and reboot in download modeby:
press Vol down + Home +Power, And then, press Volume UP button in Warning Page to enter the Download Mode
4.Connect device to PC and wait till device successfully added to com port (it will turn light blue)
5.Hit ‘Start’ to flash
6.Once it flashed successfully, you can see 'PASS' in table above the ID :COM, you can disconnect device from PC
7.Now reboot into CWM by :Switch off device and press Vol Up + Home +Power hold about 5 second
8.Install SuperSu.
9.Reboot.Done
Take about 5 min to do.Special thank to Dr.Ketan , Chainfire , Chenlu..

this the method I used. follow instructions to install the drivers properly.
then chose the build that's on your phone, mine was ALJ1 (which is option 2)
then Option 2 (rooting options)
then Option 4 (flash cwm touch etc any build)
then Option 1 (superuser)
that worked for me flawlessly. but I changed my DPI to something smaller than the 320 after I rooted and touchwiz doesn't work with smaller dpi so if anyone wants to change their dpi make sure to change ur launcher first.

Yeah, i specifically avoided anything else because I saw people had issues doing 2,3 or others. So specifically followed 2,4,1 last night. Like I said though, everything is good now after the quick tar fix that was uploaded earlier in a separate thread
Followed this method:
http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-2-easiest-method/
The other one wasn't working for me, might be a driver issue.
Got Root!!
Removed Bloatware!!
Installed Rom Toolbox!!
????
Profit!
you should not lose IMEI unless you flash the boot.img....if you do i have created a thread that has the boot.img in tar format for you to flash in odin and resolve the issue...DO NOT FLASH ROMS!!! If you do, your firmware will be changed to N7100 and you will probably have to wait for a full odin image to get your phone to work again...

this the method I used. follow instructions to install the drivers properly.
then chose the build that's on your phone, mine was ALJ1 (which is option 2)
then Option 2 (rooting options)
then Option 4 (flash cwm touch etc any build)
then Option 1 (superuser)
that worked for me flawlessly. but I changed my DPI to something smaller than the 320 after I rooted and touchwiz doesn't work with smaller dpi so if anyone wants to change their dpi make sure to change ur launcher first.

What app did you use to change your dpi? I normally use lcd density changer but it didnt work for the gs3 so i stopped using it

Galaxy GIO to root

I have just bought a S5660, and it cannot get rooted , I have used a few update.zip and used oneclick without success
here are the details:
baseband version: S5660XXKT6
android version : 2.3.6
kernel version [email protected]#1
build number: GINGERBREAD.XXKTI
can someone help me?
http://www.mediafire.com/?coocq359vv15w5p
Try this. Also , are you sure it`s not rooted ? Verify if superuser is installed or get a file manager like Root Browser Lite and try to access root files.
I am sure it is not rooted. Il will compare tonight the file you provide with the ones I got.
If you want to root your gio just install a rom

Hi,
I have used latest update.zip files to root my GIO. Maybe the way I do is wrong.
I have installed ROM Manager, I have rebooted my GIO in system recovery mode. But in the bottom of the screen and before applying update.zip there is a message:
--- Appling Multi-CSC --
Can't access to '/system/csc/MST/system'.
I can apply update.zip without any error message but it does not root the phone.

dont unzip the file to root the phone...... just put it as it is on a sd card and follow the instructions you were given.
The First Step In Modification of you Gio is Rooting , everything starts from Rooting. Many Applications Require Root access for working.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy gio
Download root gb updated.zip file. and copy to SD card (not in any folder)
1. Shutdown/Power Off your Gio.
2. Put your phone in recovery Mode(press: Home button + Power button toghether)
3. In recovery mode, select Update from SD-card(Use Volume keys to navigate and home button for enter).
4. Search for the root gb updated.zip file on your SD-card
5. Run the update
6. Reboot
Phone will be turned on , An App SuperUser will be added , its mean you successfully done rooting , now you must be thinking you have done rooting and nothing really changed, let me tell you my friends its the first step real thing begins after this , read the whole thread and you'll find much more things than you imagined.

I have found what is going wrong, /system is full so binaries cannot be copied ...
If you see superuser then your phone is rooted. You can install this app as a rooted phone can only have it. It is Titanium backup. And uninstall Rom Manager, its useless for this phone and can cause you trouble.
I guess superuser is not totally installed, /system is full and su command is not present in xbin

Yes I do, but there is no su command available and (just for ex.) ROM Manager says the phone is not rooted
How can I be sure the phone is rooted ?

There is an app called Root checker on the market, otherwise you can install apps like Titanium backup, coz if it is rooted then it will install this app.
I have installed Titanium backup and it says it cannot aquire root privileges ...
As I said /system is full so I guess there is not free space to copy binaries
Does anyone know how to clean up?

Koodo GS 2 X - How do I root?

I have a new Koodo Galaxy S2 X (Telus Partner). I've read that its the exact same phone as the T-Mobile Galaxy S2.
I was just wondering how I go about rooting this phone - I've tried a couple toolkit programs and none of them work at all.
The Model is: SGH-T989D
Android: 4.0.4
Baseband: T989DTLLG2
Kernel: 3.0.9
Build: IMM76D.TLLG2
If anyone can point me to a guide that works on my phone I would appropriate it. I'm not new to rooting - I've done a few phones and even a tablet before. I just can't find a guide for this one.
Thanks in advance.
You need to use Odin to flash a custom "pda" or recovery, then use this to install superuser root app. I believe there is a tutorial in the general section.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Download Odin 1.8.5, TWRP 2.3.3.0 Recovery and Superuser 3.0.7
Connect your phone to your computer, open Odin and get your phone in to download mode via this method and place the .tar in the PDA folder. Wait until the phone restarts and completely boots up. Now copy the superuser .zip file on to the storage of your phone.
Boot up your phone in to recovery via this method. When you're in recover go to: install/ internal/external storage/ select and flash superuser .zip file on your phone. Restart your phone and you should then be rooted by checking if you have the SuperUser app in the app drawer.
Good luck!

Place the superuser.zip file in the root of your phone (internal storage), do not place it in any folders.
Once you are in recovery, look for an option that says 'install zip from SD card' and look for the superuser.zip. Select yes, wait for the process to finish and restart the phone.

What recovery system are you using? If possible, please flash and use TWRP as it is a better recovery and try to install it again.

Yep Im using TWRP.
Here is what I do so far.
1) Hold Vol - and Vol + and Power button. Release power when it vibrates.
2) TWRP v2.3.3.0 loads up.
3) Touch Install
4) At the top it says "Select Zip to Install." I click on the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip"
5) It then says the following:
Folder:
/sdcard
File to flash:
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Press back to cancel adding this zip.
(Unchecked Box) Zip file signature verification.
(Unchecked Box) Force MD5 check on all zips.
File 1 of max of 10.
6) I then Swipe to Confirm Flash and it says the following:
Updating partition details...
Running boot script...
Finished running boot script.
Installing '/sdcard/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipped MD5 check: no MD5 file found
E:Error in /sdcard/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.
(Status 2)
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/Superuser-3.0.7-efgh
Updating partition details...
Then a Failed in red below that.
Am I doing something wrong that you can see?
Thanks.

I agree, flashing this will definitely work, Super SU is the root manager that is currently on the custom ROM I'm using. I believe I linked you to the wrong Superuser as it doesn't support Koodo 4.0.4, my mistake.

Well first, Super SU is created by a well known dev by the name of Chainfire, the same person who made it possible for Tegra made games to be playable on any phone. As for the difference, Super SU is more up to date and currently has better support for the newer ROMs, it is also noted in the Play Store that Super SU is the replacement for Superuser. Hope that clears things up for you.
Awesome thank you everyone. This worked perfectly.
Once last question... If I go into the recovery and do a backup if I ever mess my phone up flashing a rom I can always restore that backup right?
Thanks again!
