Unroot:
1. download the unroot.zip file attatchment.
2. place file on sd card
3. boot recovery, click install zip from sd card, find unroot.zip
4. install and reboot.
5. you have unrooted!
Clockwork Mod Recovery:
1. download the ClockWorkModAce.zip http://www.4shared.com/zip/0kBAQmX5/ClockWorkModAce.html
2. make sure you have used the root.zip.
3. place file on sd card
4. boot recovery, click install zip from sd card, find ClockWorkModAce.zip
5. reboot recovery and you will have Cwm recovery!
Cyanogen Mod:
MAKE A BACKUP!!!
1. do above
2. download cyanogenace.zip http://www.multiupload.com/MZLA2ECCQ0
3. put on sd card
4. boot recovery, click install zip from sd card, find cyanogenace.zip

Never heard. Thanks
Can someone give a link for cwm for s5830L. Or is there a need for specific one, can I go on with the link here? Please help. Searched all over but no luck.

Cyanogen is a 3rd party, modified OS for your phone. It replaces your current Operating System and gives you tons of benefits. I found it hard to use stock after using CM because of what it offers
Here's a link to the features http://www.cyanogenmod.com/about/features
but it does offer more than what's mentioned on that page.

Thank you ryant22. I have a doubt Can I flash any rom from cwm? Is there any process of changing the kernel or unlocking the bootloader or must use of odin? for sony ericsson x10 mini pro I had to do all that, so just to confirm.... please help
flashed with custom rom. successful and happy. thanks to all once again
Just picked up a S5830 in the UK.
Out of the box the device came with:
Android 2.3.6 build XWKT5
Baseband S5830NEKT2
SuperOneClick 2.3.3 does not work on this build, and I need root to remove simlock.
Is the root method in the OP working on all S5830 versions, or specific baseband/rom?
*update* Tried it and confirmed working on above phone.
Also please include instructions for n00bs on how to get into recovery mode on a stock S5830.
"Hold home button and Power on"
In stock recovery select "apply update from sdcard"
I can't download the cyanogenmod zip file. It seems that the link is dead or something. Could anyone give me this file?

That's an old build you would be better using a more up to date KANG

How to unroot ???
Suppose if the phone in rooted (By the same method specified here ) & if I modify/delete a few system apps, how am I supposed to unroot it ? Will it work (Of course, by the method specified here ) ? How are the system apps restored, do I have to check & install each & every one of it manually ?
Related
First things first, if you flashed a previous version of Clockwork Recovery using Odin, FLASH BACK TO A STOCK KERNEL. (There's another link in the forum to do this, I can't find it at the moment)
This recovery is *very* safe to use. It does NOT flash your kernel; it is a completely uninvasive recovery method.
How it works: The recovery is packaged as an update.zip that you run from STOCK recovery. The update.zip unpacks Clockwork Recovery onto the ramdisk and restarts recovery. When you reboot, it reverts back to the original, unmodified, stock recovery. So, you will need to keep the recovery on the root of your SD card as an update.zip, and apply the zip every time you want to start Clockwork.
HOWEVER, if you use ROM Manager, all of the recovery installation and management are done for you!
Installation instructions:
Download ROM Manager from the Market.
Flash Recovery.
Choose Galaxy S i9000 as your phone.
Accept the Superuser prompt.
Use ROM Manager to create a Backup.
On the very FIRST boot of Clockwork, you may need to manually select "reinstall packages" if Clockwork does not start. You should only ever have to do this once. It will be automatic from then on.
Watch the backup go!
That's it! This is completely painless and safe! There is no need for Odin anymore to replace the recovery or flash updates!
If you appreciate my work, please buy the Premium version of ROM Manager!
If you can't seem to get ROM Manager off the market, you can get it from my homepage:
http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html
Just installed! Working great!

hmm ... I know this might sound stupid but, acually GSG is my first android phone, though I know how to flash roms with odin and how to apply update.zip and all that but what is the difference between this and ClockworkMod Recovery ?? and does it use the same components as odin ? (I mean CODE, CSC, MODEM and Pit) ?
Stickied. Closing the other one. Not sure why you would start a new thread instead of modifying the old one though...
Thanks Koush your the man. Coming from a htc magic I hate this odin bull
Hmm... did every step and in the first reboot, after using rom manager to create a backup, it was supposed to go to the cloclworkmod recovery screen as mentioned, but instead it goes to the regular recovery screen.
Bug? I'm using the JM1 FW
EDIT: After rebooting my phone and trying to open ROM Manager again, I have some sort of "Recovery Failure" screen with 3 options:
- Recovery mode is broken.
- ROM Manager doesn't reboot.
- Other.

I had the same issue. Must have been the update.zip, but I didnt remove it, just pressed the other option, went into manual recovery mode, rebooted went into rom manager and backed up my files. Worked a charm
Does this mean there will be no more work on a permanent recovery solution?
I have the Korean version M110S - and it does not have the standard recovery (it is crippled - no apply:update.zip). Is there and abd command to "apply update.zip" ?
May I ask if this work for me using mimocan ext4 fix on the backup/restore?
This may sound stupid, but I'm kinda new to Android modding (SGS is my first droid, moving here from WiMo on SE-X1) and.... What is Clockwork?
So if I ever needed to send this phone in for warranty purposes, I could just flash the backup of my stock ROM in and I should be good to go?
does this method works for captivate and vibrant???
edit: just install/ captivate and vibrant option available.

Hi,
I've been on the last hours reading a lot of tutorials in this forum to avoid to post what is already answered. But i'm still confused, maybe a good soul can help me out : )
So far, i installed GNex Toolkit and the drivers successfully and i can enter in recovery mode, so the Toolkit is correctly identifying my device,
but i did not choose any option yet.
I have a Nexus GSM with stock rom 4.0.2. My goal is to update to 4.0.3 so i can apply some mods to invert menus and google apps color ; i like to use the device with white font over black background and i can't do it with the stock version.
So here is my noob questions
1 - I've downloaded the Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) rom ; i found strange because it seem to be a Milestone 4 rom, is that correct ?
2 - Can i apply the rom directly or do i need to apply a 4.0.3 'stock' rom before it ?
3 - As far as i understood, to flash a new rom i will :
1 - Reboot my phone in recovery mode
2 - Open Toolkit, choose the option 7 to unlock bootloader and root, and then option 12 to flash the new rom.
Is this correct ?
I miss a tutorial specific for flash new roms with Toolkit...
Thanks

Provided that your Phone is rooted, has an unlocked bootloader and you have a custom recovery like CWM: yes.
Look at MSKIPS thread (I assume you have his toolkit) for further guidance. Unlocking your Bootloader will wipe your data so if you want that saved you should make a backup.
Steps:
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Root
3. Flash CWM Recovery
4. Wipe data/cache
5. Flash ROM
6. Flash GAPPS
7. Enoy

In MSKIPS Toolkit, just choose option 7, that is making all changes needed for flashing in one go (steps one to 3). After that: you'll be ready to rumble....
Read his FAQ from the second post. It explains everything. That is better then just pushing buttons what is simple but still..., teach a monkey a trick and he is still a monkey, tell him how it works and he can teach other monkeys...

Before flashing the rom do a backup in recovery, just in case something goes wrong. Plus always good to keep a back up of your original stock rom
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Just be aware when you unlock your boot loader that EVERYTHING on the phone will be erased so back up your files and store them on your pc
Don't worry brother, just read and reread and when you're ready get a cup of coffee and experience one of the most fun/intriguing things you can do with an Android phone.

Not all apps are in the ZIP due to copyright issues. The rest (music/movie etc) you have to download from the market (play) or download elsewhere (they can be found in these forums or elsewhere on the net.

Hi,
I have used latest update.zip files to root my GIO. Maybe the way I do is wrong.
I have installed ROM Manager, I have rebooted my GIO in system recovery mode. But in the bottom of the screen and before applying update.zip there is a message:
--- Appling Multi-CSC --
Can't access to '/system/csc/MST/system'.
I can apply update.zip without any error message but it does not root the phone.

dont unzip the file to root the phone...... just put it as it is on a sd card and follow the instructions you were given.
The First Step In Modification of you Gio is Rooting , everything starts from Rooting. Many Applications Require Root access for working.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to Root Samsung Galaxy gio
Download root gb updated.zip file. and copy to SD card (not in any folder)
1. Shutdown/Power Off your Gio.
2. Put your phone in recovery Mode(press: Home button + Power button toghether)
3. In recovery mode, select Update from SD-card(Use Volume keys to navigate and home button for enter).
4. Search for the root gb updated.zip file on your SD-card
5. Run the update
6. Reboot
Phone will be turned on , An App SuperUser will be added , its mean you successfully done rooting , now you must be thinking you have done rooting and nothing really changed, let me tell you my friends its the first step real thing begins after this , read the whole thread and you'll find much more things than you imagined.

There is an app called Root checker on the market, otherwise you can install apps like Titanium backup, coz if it is rooted then it will install this app.
I have installed Titanium backup and it says it cannot aquire root privileges ...
As I said /system is full so I guess there is not free space to copy binaries
Does anyone know how to clean up?
I downloaded Infamous Tab3 for my tablet, I put the rom package on my SD card, and tried to install it from recovery mode, and it said that the Signature Verification Failed.
I've also tried unzipping the archive contents onto my SD card, but there's nothing in there that the recovery mode can use.
Am I missing something here?

You have the cwm or twrp on the tab? You need to install it from that. Not stock recovery.

Download and install the custom recovery that you wish to use (from the CWM or TWRP thread in the the development section).
Follow the instructions posted in the recovery threads.
There is a root.zip posted there as well to give you root (but the custom rom probably is rooted already).

"HOW TO INSTALL:
•Download ROM and place on SD
•Reboot into recovery
•Wipe unless change log say otherwise *
•Install the ROM
•Reboot out of recovery
•Skip setup wizard (you can put your name in)
•wait five minutes for all to settle as this is a highly tweaked ROM and Kernel (soon)
•Reboot"
These are the instructions. I don't know how to reboot in recovery a non-rooted device.
Thank you for your help.

Hold POWER, Volume UP, and the HOME button all at the same time. When you see the Samsung Logo, let go of the POWER button, but keep holding the Volume UP and HOME until you see the recovery screen.

Hey guys, did it occur to you that the instructions you quoted are all for T210 ? It might not work on T211 and might even brick it. The OP and the me too would like an assurance that it will work on the t211. Also for the Infamous Tab3 the dev clearly said that I might lose the 3G if I flash it on my tab 3 T211.
PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Here is a thread to root your phone that works also!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833579
What I did to root my phone, because I didn't follow the above post, --- because I didn't look hard enough in the forums!
Also, If you want to overclock your phone use this guide -
Download and the extract the boot image - i927R-boot-ardatdat-AA.img.tar

Original Forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20041051&postcount=108
Put your phone in Download Mode:
Turn off the phone
Press volume UP and keeping the button pressed, press the power button
a screen should ask you if you wanna continue - press volume up to confirm
Launch Odin
in PDA, select the boot image you just extracted it is a tar file - i927R-boot-ardatdat-AA.img.tar
DON'T SELECT or UNSELECT ANYTHING ELSE
Press the start button
Wait for your phone to reboot
Reboot your device into download mode again (steps above)

Flash the STOCK ROOTED ROM using my (steps below)
1. Download Odin - Odin 3.07 --- Not a must for rooting but great tool to have!
2. Download CWM6 - There are newer versions but I know this works! - Thanks AndyYan - CWM6.0.1.2
Original thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34479219
3. Downloaded - Stock Rooted UCLJ3 ROM - STOCK ROOTED UCLJ3 ROM - Android 4.0.4
4. Place the zipped STOCK ROOTED folder on your External SD Card --- In the root of the sdcard --- what that means is don't put it in a folder! - You can do this by putting your card in your computer or laptop, if you have a media reader or usb adapter Buy One Here - once its on the external sd card place it back in the phone
5. Boot into CWM6 -
5a - Power off phone
5b - Power up phone while holding the down volume key - This boots you into CWM6
6. Once in CWM6 you can update to the ROOTED STOCK ROM
7. Select - Install zip from sdcard
8. Select - choose zip from external sdcard
9. Select - UCALJ3 - Stock.zip
From there just follow the prompts if any!
Once the update is done all should be well!
If I failed to credit anyone or their forum post please let me know!
Just an addition: if you're already on a stock ROM (without ROOT) and want to root without changing the ROM you're now using, just not flash the Stock UCLJ3 zip and instead flash the latest SuperUser or SuperSU zip found floating around the Internet.

Yep hense the very first link in the post! That forum explains how to do that exact process.

Hi friend "AndyYan" then if I have a stock ROM installed as non-root in my case is that ICS 4.0.4 update through Kies, I can then just install direct CWM6 SD-card or necessarily need to use Odin.
Since I am not very clear because download Odin? supposedly the stock ROM if I will install directly to SD-card and run with CWM6 there?
Excuse my ignorance, but I'm too new, and I'm afraid to leave my phone useless?
Thanks

Very very much for this excellent guide, and I've searched and searched and finally found this, because I wanted to try taking root, as many other stir all as assuming one knows.
Thanks friend "ll81702". :good::good:

Updated via KIES, right? Then you need Odin to flash CWM. You can't get CWM directly from SD.
Sent from Google Nexus 4 @ Android 4.4 KRT16M
Thanks, but what if I do the steps indicated by the friend "ll81702", because as I said I have already ICS 4.0.4, cause some conflict if I restart the UCLJ3 ROOTED STOCK ROM - Android 4.0.4 indicating the guide or only one set you need superuser or SuperSU and of course install with Odin the CWM6.0.1.2, which option would you recommend
Thanks...
I am not sure I understand your question. Can you rephrase?
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
I think skynet is trying to say that because he already has the stock firmware, would the rooted one conflict with his current one, and he would like your input on whether to install the superuser.zip or the cwm via Odin.
Sent from my SGHI927 using Tapatalk
If you just want to root your phone you just need to load cwm6 using Odin then place the superuser zip on your sdcard. Boot into cwm6 and load the zip.

Exactly as it says the friend "LaizureBoy", but what would happen if I use the method of the guide, I could return it to its normal state (without root), because as I see the method of Friend "ll81702" the UCALJ3-Stock.zip this is STOCK ROOTED, for as I understand this would only be root, then you can not remove the root
Thank you for your comments and support. :good:
PD: Excuse my English because I do not understand very well and use a translator ...

 Hi again because in this other guide need a "CarrierIQ FREE kernel (zip file) or the overclocked version of it" and are not using the CWM or is that CarrierIQ is the same

If you root your stock ROM it can be returned to unrooted at any time.

Thank you II81702 and AndyYan. I have the SGH-I927... I originally used ODIN to flash the carrrier free kernal... but I noticed something strange- upon reboot, it just came up with the Samsung logo and stopped there.
I was then able go into download mode again and flashed the at&t rooted ROM from the OP on 12-6-11. When it rebooted, it got hung on the samsung logo as well.
I then flashed the CWM6 and then booted up in recovery mode.
I installed the Stock Rooted UCLJ3 ROM from the external sd card and then rebooted.
now when it first reboots, it starts out with the samsung logo then 10 sec later, it get brings up the word ANDROID and gets hung there...
So am back to square one. : crying:

You are not stuck it can take 15 mins or more to get past the android screen.
If you did not do a clean wipe of your phone it will take a very long time to load.

Thanks!! I re-wiped, re-flashed the ROM and it booted up in 5 min.
Now when I turn on the phone it has the Samsung symbol and the yellow turned to blue exclamation point and then the usual boot up after that..
seems to be fine besides that. Many thanks for your posts! :good:

Very normal!
The kernel you're using is an overclock kernel, its the same one i use!
Hi sorry for asking this, have heard of software called "UnlockRoot Pro" according to this by simply connecting the device to the software that makes root or unroot the device is a paid software, but actually works on a SGH-i927 (Captivate Glide) .
Thanks...
Why pay for something you can get for free?

It ended up working fine. It just took about 8 minutes for the phone to locate the gps... then it was ok after that.... did some research and I will try do some mods to the gps/sysconf files and see if it helps it find the gps faster.
Thanks again for all your work
