Charging issue - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, tried some of you to charge GPad with another USB cable? I bought a longer cable and tablet charging very slowly. I do not know how it's possible
Odesláno z mého Galaxy Nexus pomocí Tapatalk 2

It's the charger, not the cable.
Standard LG charger is 1.8 Ah (1800mAh)
Anything less will work fine, but charge slower accordingly.

no I tried the charger from the nexus 7 which gives 2A. 2m cable from Belkin and charging has been slow. the original charger with cable is ok but with a different (longer) cable is charging bad.

As far as I know the cable shouldn't make a difference, but maybe I'm wrong then.

Well that's what I thought too, but it is really so. I was just wondering how this is possible.

So you probably have a cable that's meant for data.

I've had cables that work for data but not for charging. Its frustrating but you just use a different cable once you've figured it out.

I've got some cheap usb cables that I've tried to use for charging my Nexus 7, and it charges like on usb even though it is actually using the AC charger. All usb cables are not the same!

When staying at my Mum's without the G Pad charger, I originally tried charging the tablet with the cable (meant for charging, not just data) and power adaptor (0.8A) that came with a Kindle e-reader - as expected it took ages.
I then bought the Amazon Powerfast usb power adaptor (the one they sell for the Kindle Fire tablet, 1.8A) to keep at my Mum's. It didn't come with a cable, so originally I used the new charger with the Kindle e-reader cable - the G Pad still took twice as long as usual to charge.
Using the new Amazon charger with the cable that came with the G Pad, everything is back to normal.
So it seems like both charger and cable need to be up to the higher power requirements, and all usb charging cables are indeed not created equal - the G Pad one is certainly much thicker, heavier duty looking than the e-reader one. I'm going to pick up Amazon's Powerfast charging cable to go with the new charger now.

I can confirm exactly the same experience
Not at your mum'house of course
Cable are different and kindle reader (the white) long one does not support 2A power..
sent from tablet

Ran into this problem today and glad I did a search. I had thought something was wrong with my G Pad. I have been using my Kindle Reader to charge my G Pad for the past 3 months and never really thought much about it. It was always fully charged overnight. But the kids played with it last night and dropped it down to 4% before it shut itself off. I put it on the Kindle charger as usual and in 24 hours it's only charged up to 84%!!!!
So I finally pulled the G Pad charger out of its wrapper. I'll have to run a test on it and see how long it takes the G Pad charger to fully charge the tablet.

I charge mine with my dad's LG Optimus One P500 charger if I forget mine.
If you have any of those phones, just twist the phone cable and put it in.
It works vice versa too.
USB is a standard voltage. You will be fine. There's essentially no difference between both the adapters you have.

USB is 5V and will carge fine anywhere from 500mA (standard computer USB port) to 2-3A (most wall and car chargers). I have only once seen a USB wall charger that violated this, it was 6V and came with a AA battery charger. you'll be fine with the ipad one.
I use a trust and ipod chrager, no problem since now!
any voltage up to 6V should be alright, the phone regulates it down to 5V automatically (though more heat is generated). the problems occur the other way where the charger doesn't have enough voltage (ex. my tablet requires 5.3V to charge normally, on 5.1 it takes a few days, and 5.0 it continues to drain the battery)

Efficient enough car charger.

Hi guys.
I have a problem finding good car charger for my phone while in car.
I either use sygic sat nav or Google maps but on top of that I stream music either via Google music or di.fm app.
Problem starts when I start streaming. My battery slowly drops down about 1% per 15min. I've tried various car chargers that have either 1amp, 2.1 amp and even dual 3.5amp they don't do the job. Only my HTC 1amp charger manages to hold the charge but it doesn't charge on top of that.
Any ideas and suggestions?

I bought the car charger from Amazon HERE earlier this year and it has worked out awesome. I usually leave it in my car but also makes a great wall charger for when you need it in a pinch and didnt bring your own. Its 17 (I got free shipping since I have Amazon Prime) and well worth it since I dont think I ever have to buy another car charger again for any device I own. Even charges my tablet.

I use a 1A HTC charger and never had any issues. Are you sure your cigarette lighter is working properly? It sounds like all of these chargers you've tried are charging at less than 1A.
I think 1 amp is about all it will do. It will have a hard time keeping up if you are using it a lot. I have the htc car charger and it seems to keep up for me but actually getting a decent charge while using it will be hard.

not all 1a chargers actually charge at 1a. it depends on if the two middle pins are shorted together or not.
this charger is cheap as hell - 3 bucks - and charges at a full 1a. i use it and it works perfectly.

I noticed this too, using a Kensington USB charger in the car. On my drive out to Phoenix, I noticed that having Navigation running while plugged in caused the battery to drain.
I also noticed that running Torque sucks the battery down as well. I stopped at a gas station that had a ton of gadgets, so I bought another off-brand USB adapter that stated its output is 1.5A. I also picked up the OEM extended battery at a VZW store while out there. It doesn't drain as fast now, but it does still drain a bit.
Motorola
Absolutely go for the motorola charger. I use it everytime in car, it's a 1A charger, has a nice blue light and can charge your phone even when using navigation.
And on top of that it's also cheap. I bought it in boundle with a motorola wall charger @ 10€.
is it this one guys http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Motorol...846874?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a1ea6619a
Make shift cable.
If you're super cheap and/or like to DIY, I was able to get my Galaxy Nexus to recognize any USB charger as AC by cutting a USB extension cable in half. I then soldered/twisted the green and white wires within the USB cable together and then I soldered the red to red and black to black. By putting the modified USB extension in between the charger and a USB to Micro USB cable it will force the phone to recognize the charger as AC instead of USB. I sealed up my adapter with some White and Green heat-shrink tubing I had lying around so it would be easy to identify. Same thing can be done to a USB to Micro-USB cable if you want.

Charger dead?

So it would seem that my charger is not working properly.. it still works I guess, but it charges my G about as fast as a usb port, which is not right obviously.
Strangely enough the phone charges fine using usb, albeit showing the "slow charging". When I plug in to the adapter in the wall, it doesn't show slow charging, it shows the battery icon animation with the bolt that would signify it is charging, however the phone doesn't warm at all and crawls by one percent every 10-15 minutes. The adapter itself doesn't even get warm to the touch like it used to.
So how can I get another adapter? I've looked online and can only find replacements for other models.. this adapter shows the output as a 5v 1.2 amp.
Is it okay to simply get another third party charger with the same power output? does anyone know?
Thanks!
You can. I use a 1A charger and have had no issues.

Awesome, thank you for confirming.. has anyone else experienced any weirdness with the chargers that they are aware of?
There's a handful of similar threads on here already.
My charger stopped charging my OG a couple if weeks after I got it. But, it still charges my wife's Galaxy S2 LTE HD.
And, the charger for my old Sony Xperia Pro charges the OG without issues.
See the other thread for more details.

Maybe it's just a crappy charger that LG is including with the second phones.

Oddly enough I purchased a new charger today., charged to 45% and then stopped.. the charger shows a green light as of the battery will not accept any further charge.
So I wiggled the usb cable and it starts charging again.. whats really weird is that using that cable charges when using usb just not a wall adapter so I will be trying with a different cable.

Indeed it is.. Tried a new charger first as mentioned above, but grabbed a new cable today and it appears to be exactly the problem. Strange considering that it works when using usb from a computer.. I guess it somehow is unable to charge at the rated 1A output using that cable.
Thankful that is working now.. so yeah, anyone who suffers from weird charging it would appear the cable can indeed be suspect
My the wall charger that came with my OG has the same problem. It started charging slow after a few weeks. I just used a different thing that goes into the wall but the same cable that came with my OG and it started charging fast again.
i am using my O3D charger for my Optimus G.. i havent had a problem yet.. so i would have a batter and say its the included cruddy charger from LG.

For sure, was my initial thought as well., however I can confirm that the charger is working fine just using a different cable.. so now I am just using the stock cable with my pc for transfers and charging and the new cable with the wall adapters.

OEM charger output vs. high output car charger

IIRC the stock wall charger is rated at 1.8Ah. But, what is the phone's actual draw? Does it ever get up there near 1.8mAh?
I'm just trying to figure out if a car charger with "only 1000mA" will be sufficient. I'm guessing that the OEM wall charger is rated well above whatever the phone might ask for, but as to how much, I don't know.
I'm actually looking at these two right now as they both seem to give a pretty high output for both Android and Apple devices.

My experience with other phones is that the phone draws exactly what the stock charger gives it. I'd imagine it's the same with this one. 3140mah is a lot of battery to charge.

I'd agree. I charged it the first couple days using the OGP wall charger and USB cable from my Nexus 4. It took all night. Switched the cable with the one in the box, and it charges in like an hour!
I have a 2.1a car charger, and the OGPro charges in exactly the same amount of time as the stock wall charger.
Oddly, it charges slower from my 2a Note II charger.

Im looking at all of the chargers from Anker on Amazon. It seems they have the best positive reviews of anything I've seen. Although the 3.6 watt (white unit with either 2 usb ports or one port and a micro usb cable) unit is newer than the 3.1 (black heavy duty), the black unit can give the full 3.1 watts to either port or split it amongst the two ports. And according to Anker, either port will work for Apple or android. They suggested i get the newer (white) unit, but i want to have the full 3.1 watts available to a single port for future h higher powered devices.
I'll have to check those out. I've been looking at this one, which has good reviews on it.

My concern with that one is that it gives a total of 2.1A. So if you charge your OGP using one usb port, there's only 0.3A left for the other port. The disclaimer at the end of the description says that if you are charging an iPad to not use the second port. I'm guessing that warning would also apply too us with the high draw OGP. It also states that the blue light gets even brighter in the dark. You might need to cover the led if it's too bright, but that's a personal taste thing, and it might not actually be that intrusive. Lastly, do you have enough room in your vehicle to rest both your phone, and the head of the charging device? I have a dual outlet 12v supplier in my car, but i bought one that has no cord. The two outlets are rigidly mounted right at the end of the cigarette lighter plug.
I bought a Griffin Powerjolt single USB at Walmart. It only charges at full speed using the OGPro's stock cable. Any other cable is slower, and the cable from my old S2 gives me a "Slow Charging" notification.
Anyway, this charger is just a stop-gap. I'm going to be hard wiring two USB plugs into my truck's 12v system (with some 5v regulators and an Add-a-Circuit).
I was looking at the 3.6A charger, here's the link on amazon.
As I expected, one port is for Apple and one for Android. This is very irritating because I need to charge my OGP while my fiance charges her OG at the same time on trips.
Can our OGP charge at full speed on the Apple port?
Edit: I just read that the kernal in Android 4.2 fixes this issue so we can charge in any USB charger, including apple chargers. I'm guessing LG devices still on 4.1 won't benefit from this update.
Shouldn't going to Settings > PC Connection > USB Connection Type and then setting it to "Charge only" force the device to see any cable as a charge only cable thus making it charge faster?

As per Anker, the Apple port will charge Android at full speed. I have not verified this myself as I have not gotten mine yet, but that's what I'm told, and expect. I'm waiting for their wall charger to come back in stock as the shipping will be free if l order both.

Problems with N7 official charger

My USB cable for my N7 is broken so I'm using the cable that came with my s4. Whenever I use my asus wall plug in charger with the s4 cable it doesnt work at all! 3 hours and I only get 7 percent charge, but if I use this setup to charge my lumia 520 it works perfectly.
Is my charger busted or is this a compatibility issue between the charger, cable and device?
I used a microusb cable that came from a blackberry phone, and I still manage to charge my tablet somewhat rapidly. See if the problem persists with different outlets (although you did mention that the same setup worked with the lumia). See if you can also use the S4 USB cable to connect the nexus 7 to your computer (and if the computer charges it faster than the wall outlet- usually outlet should be faster).
Hope this helps.
