I will work with no problems. I have done this many times as I forget my charger at a friends and use thier iPhone, WiMax, Bluetooth chargers.

I used to charge my WFS with philips mp3 charger. It works without any problem

I charge mine with my dad's LG Optimus One P500 charger if I forget mine.
If you have any of those phones, just twist the phone cable and put it in.
It works vice versa too.

USB is a standard voltage. You will be fine. There's essentially no difference between both the adapters you have.

USB is 5V and will carge fine anywhere from 500mA (standard computer USB port) to 2-3A (most wall and car chargers). I have only once seen a USB wall charger that violated this, it was 6V and came with a AA battery charger. you'll be fine with the ipad one.

I use a trust and ipod chrager, no problem since now!

any voltage up to 6V should be alright, the phone regulates it down to 5V automatically (though more heat is generated). the problems occur the other way where the charger doesn't have enough voltage (ex. my tablet requires 5.3V to charge normally, on 5.1 it takes a few days, and 5.0 it continues to drain the battery)

if you have 5v and 1Ah you can use it without any damge to battery if it's 1Ah+ it will charge your phone fatser but it will overheat phone. if it 1Ah- it will charge slow and after long using wont charge it till 100%

Chargers are so cheap on e-bay.... I usually get all my accessories there!

Charge with USB or the wall charger?

I know that this is a really lame question but I was wondering if one offers a "better" charge? USB charges very slowly compared to the wall charger so I dont want to use it unless I have to.
Also, why does the car charger have a USB hub for the charging cable that comes with the phone if it has a micro USB hub on the end of the cable that is connected to the charger anyways? That is just redundant, is it not?
The wall charger will charge faster... As for 'better'? A charged battery is a charged battery. If you charge it faster than the wall charger allows, there's a potential for overloading the battery (though there should be safeguards to prevent explosive results). But the wall charger is what I'd suggest.
As for the car charger, it's to allow multiple devices. Micro USB for your phone, and a USB port to plug in anything else that might need it (like an iPad or something). If you don't have 2 devices, ignore the USB port and just use the micro USB connection.

Thank you.
Most USB-based charging only goes at 500mA, where as the OEM charger is about 1.5 amps (1500mA). You can find some 2.0A USB car chargers on eBay / Amazon for fairly cheap. They're worth it to get a full charge if you are in a hurry or have a short commute.
Here's one that's 2.1A for $9.99 on Amazon

I've noticed that it chargers obscenely quickly with the little OEM charger. Any idea where to buy more of those (or more similarly powerful chargers?)

Silly question, but as long as it's a 5 volt 2 amp MicroUSB charger, it'll work? I just don't want to fry my phone using some incompatible charger.

yeah that should work. All Modern day phones have a voltage regulator to stop overcharging.
Warning: iPad Charger
I tried using the iPad charger yesterday and that didn't work out very well. My phone turned off and didn't charge. I couldn't turn it back on, had to do a battery pull to get it going again.
Not sure if this is an isolated incident or not, but I'm going to stick with my Nexus and/or USB charger.

It makes sense that your phone got hot. When using the stock charger (or any charger with a current rating of 1A or less), the charger is the one that is limiting the current to the battery, so the current-limiting circuit in the phone is not necessarily active and therefore not generating much heat. However, when using the iPad charger (which is rated around 2.5A, I think), the current-limiting circuit in the charger is not active because the 1A or so that the phone is drawing is well within the rating of the charger. Therefore in this case, the current-limiting circuit in the phone needs to actively limit the current and thereby generate a lot of heat.
I personally think that it's better to just use a charger that has a similar current rating to the stock charger. I higher-rated one might charge the battery just fine, but I'd rather keep all of that heat in the charger and away from the battery. Although, of course I could be mistaken -- feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Car charger that charges at wall charger speeds?

Any car chargers that anyone could point me to that charges as fast as a wall charger?
As it is right now, unless I have my screen off and no apps running it drains faster than the charger can put juice into it...
I'm just using an el-cheap-o aftermarket car charger.
Thanks!

What I use is a cig to usb plug (cost me 10 bucks at walmart). Then I bring the cord from home that came with my phone and plug that into the USB to cig thingy. Works like a charm, I haven't noticed it charging slower than when at home.

Just get any standard microusb charger rated at 1a (or 1000mAh ). I'm betting your elcheapo is .5a (500mAh).

All I know is that now I can run my GPS with the screen on and still move UP in battery - before it would drain faster than the car charger would charge, so, I'm happy with what I have now.
Actually the problem is that some of the car chargers are not at 1amp output but less .75 or .85. Thats why your not really seeing an increase. The stock charger is at 1amp. I know AllGamer likes to use the Blackberry ones (which i believe are 1.5amps) Correct me if im wrong AllGamer.
So just look for 1 amp car chargers the cable doesnt matter itll hold whatever you attach it to.
So, no matter wht brand charger you have as long as you connect the two middle pins you will get full charge as long as the charger can put out 1000ma?
I really need a good charger for the car, right now i use a blackberry charger at work an it charges pretty fast. But i need to know how do i find the currect charge rate of a charger. Is there an app for that?

Does anyone have an experience with this charger from MONOPRICE

I need a great car charger and really dont want to spend to much money on it. Furthermore, if I am getting a 1+amp charger, as long as i am using the stock samsung charging cable then it shouldnt matter if the charger itself has D- and D+ shorted right?
Im assuming this is something standard on all usb CHARGING cables as appose to data cables.?

For those of you buying the USB 12V Cigarette adapters read this.
Basically if you use a data sync cord with one of those adapters, unless it shorts the 2 data pins together internally (probably not) the phone is going to think it's plugged into a computer and only charge at 500ma (max output for a computer USB port). The write up above explains to short the 2 data cables together (this is done internally with the main AC charger head) back towards the phone so it will charge at 1amp instead of 500ma.
You can buy this cable and just modify it as described. I bought this USB adapter so I could charge 2 things at once.
Let me get this clear.
All i need to look for when it is charging is AC mode. As long as it says that, it doesnt matter what i have or have not done to the cables, AC mode is AC mode.
The charger i am looking at getting is 2.1 amp (because it has a spare usb port...so 1amp per line) and when i plug it in and it says AC MODE then its good to go right.
I just bought a TMOBILE offical charger that shows AC MODE, so when it MONOPRICE charger arrives i can compare. If it doesnt work its another 5 bucks, if it does i can take the tmo one back.
But again i am just wondering are there any caveats to AC MODE, or is it that once AC mode shows that is all that matters.

Efficient enough car charger.

Hi guys.
I have a problem finding good car charger for my phone while in car.
I either use sygic sat nav or Google maps but on top of that I stream music either via Google music or di.fm app.
Problem starts when I start streaming. My battery slowly drops down about 1% per 15min. I've tried various car chargers that have either 1amp, 2.1 amp and even dual 3.5amp they don't do the job. Only my HTC 1amp charger manages to hold the charge but it doesn't charge on top of that.
Any ideas and suggestions?

I bought the car charger from Amazon HERE earlier this year and it has worked out awesome. I usually leave it in my car but also makes a great wall charger for when you need it in a pinch and didnt bring your own. Its 17 (I got free shipping since I have Amazon Prime) and well worth it since I dont think I ever have to buy another car charger again for any device I own. Even charges my tablet.

I use a 1A HTC charger and never had any issues. Are you sure your cigarette lighter is working properly? It sounds like all of these chargers you've tried are charging at less than 1A.
I think 1 amp is about all it will do. It will have a hard time keeping up if you are using it a lot. I have the htc car charger and it seems to keep up for me but actually getting a decent charge while using it will be hard.

not all 1a chargers actually charge at 1a. it depends on if the two middle pins are shorted together or not.

I noticed this too, using a Kensington USB charger in the car. On my drive out to Phoenix, I noticed that having Navigation running while plugged in caused the battery to drain.
I also noticed that running Torque sucks the battery down as well. I stopped at a gas station that had a ton of gadgets, so I bought another off-brand USB adapter that stated its output is 1.5A. I also picked up the OEM extended battery at a VZW store while out there. It doesn't drain as fast now, but it does still drain a bit.
Motorola
Absolutely go for the motorola charger. I use it everytime in car, it's a 1A charger, has a nice blue light and can charge your phone even when using navigation.
And on top of that it's also cheap. I bought it in boundle with a motorola wall charger @ 10€.
is it this one guys http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Motorol...846874?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a1ea6619a
Make shift cable.
If you're super cheap and/or like to DIY, I was able to get my Galaxy Nexus to recognize any USB charger as AC by cutting a USB extension cable in half. I then soldered/twisted the green and white wires within the USB cable together and then I soldered the red to red and black to black. By putting the modified USB extension in between the charger and a USB to Micro USB cable it will force the phone to recognize the charger as AC instead of USB. I sealed up my adapter with some White and Green heat-shrink tubing I had lying around so it would be easy to identify. Same thing can be done to a USB to Micro-USB cable if you want.

Q - why won't my one x charge with other USB cables

Hi
I have a few other normal micro USB cables and when I try to use them with the standard HTC plug, the phone shows its charging but the percentage never goes up. In fact it drains even though it says its charging. Why is this? I've tried two new cables with the official wall charger but I get the same. I really want to be able to use a longer cable.
Any ideas? If it helps I'm running Franco r11 kernel.

I charge mine with a nokia cable which came with e7.no problem here.
all cables are the same, unless they are "charge only" cables (I got one like this for my Nvidia glasses)
it will not drain more than 500mA from USB. But the charging logic is acting weird sometimes so I think you just saw it glitching with other cable and not with the original one. It will drain with both if you use it in the meantime, try it.
Hmmm. I got the battery widget app which shows + mv when charged with the official HTC cable. When I plug in the other two miscellaneous cables the discharge rate is negative under the same conditions. Maybe its the kernel?

Have you ran the charger test in the HTC Phone Diagnostics??
From my experience this phone is picky as hell when it comes to what charger it wants you to use. I ended up using the one it comes with. It charges the fastest.
Go to the play store and download battery monitor widget. Its really helpful! Shows you how fast it drains the temperature all in graphs.

Its got nothing to do with the micro usb cables, there has been another power management update that was released last week, so HTC have told me, as mine sometimes doesnt charge more than 23%-29%, but when rebooted it goes to 63% and sometimes takes 12 hours for a simple charge, but was told it can take up to 4 weeks for the networks to distribute it. Im waiting for it too as my software is still on 1.28.771.9.
Im on 3 uk so it will probably never happen, but im currently in dispute with them because of faulty phone.
Hi I'm having the same problem with a longer USB cable.
I have a 3 meter cable from ebay which I've been using to charge my Desire HD for the past year without a problem.
When I tried this with my new One X it will not charge. The charge light is on but battery level decreases. I've left the phone sitting with the screen off for a while, but no charge.
When I tried it with the USB cable that came with the phone it charges fine, even whilst using the phone, with the same wall charger plug.
I've tried it with the wall charger plug that came with the One X and the one that came with the Desire HD, both same results:
Desire HD charges with both short USB and long USB cable.
One X will only charge with the short USB cable.
Is there a quality difference in the cables, or maybe a length restriction?
My One X is running Stock Android 4.0.3 (1.29.206.11)

I've just bought another 3 meter micro USB cable of higher quality, this one stated it would work with HTC One series phones. This cable charges my phone perfectly. The software on my phone hasn't changed from above.
Somehow it seems the One X, and maybe all other One series phones, are particularly sensitive to the type of USB cable? I didn't realise this could be an issue!
weird. i would have thought it was the increased resistance in the cable that was making it charge slower/drain
maybe its literally the quality of the cable, better materials, equals lesser resistance over a longer distance, therefore why the new cable will work and the other doesn't?

As does the S3 and N7 Gen1.
So long as it's 1A or greater it'll work at about the same charge rate (1A = slower, and anything over 1.35A won't charge much faster).

It didn't work on a charger I had that had a "special" cable that only provided power and ground. When I used a normal USB cable, it worked fine, so it apparently wan't to see something more than just an open connection on the data lines before it will charge.

Anyone tried using the Apple 12W 2.4 apm charger?
Is it ok to use more powerful charger than the one it ships with?
More capacity charger won't be a "problem" as the device determines how much power to pull. Lesser capacity charges can sometimes overheat if not designed well.
Often devices capable of charging faster will only go into that mode if they detect the charger is capable of doing so. Since the way they determine this is not standardized, sometime high capacity charger charge slowly. This could be caused by something on the charger side, or even the cable being used.
Worse case of using a higher capacity charger is it won't charge at all, but that is pretty rare. Often it will charge, either at a slow or fast rate.
