So, I think my phone just bricked itself or something.
Last night, I installed nova launcher and started tweaking the phone like a mad man.
Any ways, today when I woke up, my phone was off out no where. It had a little trouble booting up I noticed, but eventually it managed. Used the the phone for a few minutes, then it just turned off on me.
Now, whenever I try to turn the phone on, it won't get passed this screen. It just makes it to this screen, and just turns off again.
I also can't boot into recovery mode or anything.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Was running Kitkat cyanogenmod just fine for the most part this last month or so.

If the phone displays that screen, it's likely not bricked. If you power off the phone or pull the battery, then boot into recovery (holding power, volume-up, and home at the same time), you can do a factory reset and that should be all it takes to get the phone booting again. You could wipe and reflash your ROM from there too if that doesn't work.
Like I said in the OP, I can't get the phone to boot into recovery mode. It doesn't get passed that screen.

Yep,missed that part. My fault. Can you get into download mode instead? When you plug your phone in, does your computer recognize it? You may be able to use Odin to go back to a stock ROM instead of going to recovery, to start from scratch.
Oh, I should also mention that I have a Mac. Is there anything like Odin or Flashboot for a Mac?

I don't think Odin is compatible (don't have a Mac myself, so not sure), but I've heard of people using Heimdall as an alternative to Odin for Mac. Latest version of Heimdall should be available through their website from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265

So I'm not sure what happened with my girlfriend's Gnex, she updated to 4.2 a couple days ago, then her battery died. So she went to charge it and when it finished charging, she went to turn it on normally, but it went into a reboot loop? So i was talking to someone else on another thread that i saw similar, so i tried to do a flash stock + unroot, it connected i got into recovery menu and everything, went to do it, and then the screen started going staticy, and it said it failed then it said it should take 5-10 minutes or something. So i guess it froze or something, so i took the battery out and the screen was still staticy, and then i unplugged it from the USB, and now it won't turn back on. Did i brick the device? :/ Thanks in advance for future answers.

but now it just won't turn at all, i've done a battery pull, battery swap, nothing worked.

I'm having a similar issue. I wanted to flash the memory so i relocked the phone using the wugkit, then unlocked and rooted. For some reason, it wouldn't load a new rom. I kept getting the triangle exclamation point android graphic. I pulled the battery and that was it. Black screen. Won't turn on. A cpl of times, it was almost recognized by the computer via USB, but just kept failing. This sucks.

Yes the battery is charged. Occassionally, when I plug it into the computer, it makes the new device notification and then fails over and over again. I keep trying to get a glimpse of a lock so i can adb it.
It is a long story, started with wanting Photoshare App. After rooting using Odin got into all sort of process stopped error. Desperate, downloaded and tried to flash CM10 using CWM. All I got was CM logo circling endlessly for 30 minutes. Pulled the plug and now, I seem to have a brick, can't even boot to recovery or download mode. When I try to boot to downlad mode, the warning screen appears for just a second and goes away. When I try recovery mode Samsumg log appears and then blank.
Is there anything I can do at this point? I appreciate any help I can get.

Hm. if you boot up your phone are you stuck at the cm bootup? If you are im sorry bro you cant fix it for free by sending it to samsung. JTAG for 60 bucks or samsung for 60 bucks. Reason being that it shows that you have rooted and modded your device. If you were hardbricked and nothing would turn on at all you would be able to send it to samsung and get it fixed for free!
Well if it shows Download mode then it might be working, just not showing, if you see a blue ID:COM number in Odin its working. Try to flash a stock ROM in Odin while in Download mode and make sure its in PDA or you will brick. Check only Auto-Reboot and F. Reset time.
If it works congrats if not search this forum for a service called JTAG which repairs bricks.

A little update ...
I was able to get to download mode after many trys and got back to stock -- unrooted. I should have stopped when I was ahead, but I was feeling invincible after this feat of reviving the phone and that was really stupid.
I wanted to root and flash CM10 nightly. I followed the instructions from http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32486-gu...m10-nightlies-without-k-exec-updated-8-18-12/. After unlocking the bootloader step, I wanted to backup the stock ROM I had on the phone -- I don't know why I wanted to do that as I had just flashed the stock and didn't have anything customized. Anyway, when I clicked backup from CWM everything died, kaput, nothing. I have been desperately holding the power button, reovery combination of buttons, download mode combination, anything I can think of, the phone is giving me the total silent treatment, which BTW I am used from a more human source.
Let me know if there is anything I can do, perhaps stand on one leg and try switching it on perhaps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/redface.gif
Sorry for the dumb jokes, I am a little frustrated, but I am sure I will get over it.
Thanks for those who took interest to read my question and those who cared to respond, I appreciate it....
Cheers!

Best advice...take out the battery, leave for 1-2 hours, insert battery, try to access download, flash stock in odin, reboot, don't flash any more Jelly Bean roms. lol
hi folks, Well first time asking for help. Had jedi 8 installed and all was good. went to bed and plugged in the phone.

logo. it wont boot so i am stuck. i can get into download mode but odin will not see the phone tried a couple diff versions
and like six usb cords and all ports no go but when stuck on the boot screen then the computer does see it. any ideas itst mo version

odin that ish and start from scratch.
be thankful you can boot tho, S2s have a sticky power button issue that renders the phone useless.
Didn't find anything similar on here so I had to post. My T999 no longer boots except for a vibrate when the battery is removed and re-inserted. Occasionally it will get to the CM boot logo and then the screen goes off. If I time the button presses right, I get to the Download screen but before I can hit the Up button to confirm download mode the screen shuts off. This happened all of a sudden yesterday, the last activity being to shut off the Alarm. Tried charging but it will not get past the initial battery icon before the screen goes off. Tried replacing the battery but that didn't help. I also tried to follow the debrick instructions but it didn't help. I was running Vanir AOSP 4.4.4 with no issues until yesterday. The device does not register when connected to the PC using USB and the charger LED does not light up when plugged into charger/PC. My feeling is that something went wrong with the boot but I am unable to get into any usable screen to do anything. I had managed to brick a Samsung Vibrant before but I didn't have to struggle as much to debrick and ODIN back to stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm now without a phone .
Mine is also acting like that. It wont boot to any rom even stock ones. But i noticed that if i connect my charger it will boot to the homescreen. Sounds like a battery issue right? I also thought that but when i go to recovery, it did not shutdown after leaving it for a couple of minutes. I'm also baffled why it wont boot. I'll try to borrow other battery to test if it still the same.

Remove battery snd put back in. Does the device try to turn on by itself? If so you probably have a bad power button.

Done this using root66 but still the same. Now my phone went to worse. It wont get past the S3 logo in the boot screen and just shuts down followed by a vibrate. But if i connect my charger, it will continue and run as normal. My suspect might be a bad battery but the thing is it doesn't auto shutdown when is download mode or in recovery mode. Will try to borrow other battery and update if this fixes the problem.
This is pretty strange. Woke up to my phone with the Galaxy s3 boot logo. And it wouldn't go past it. Tried flashing different backups I had but none of them let me go past the boot logo. Flashed CM10 since my version of TWRP recovery is so old that it can't flash anything higher up, and it goes past the boot logo finally after 2 hours then goes to the cyanogen boot logo but doesn't go past that. I'm going to try with ODIN tonight.
Seems very strange that there are others that had this happen to them to. My phone has never done this before, and it happened randomly.
What does it mean if my phone doesn't boot past the logo with an odin to root66 file?
Edit: Nevermind seems to have worked... for now.
Edit 2: Okay so now it's stuck in an infinite loop where it boots past the logo, shows the android mascot then does an android is upgrading app 1 of 169 then goes back all over again. This is fun! Can anyone help?
Edit 3: Okay so I had to do a factory reset. Got it working now. Starting to get sick of the things I have to do to get updated firmware. Samsung needs to get their crap together!

Hopefully its just the battery.
Download mode may work because of how the battery reports to the os. If its going bad and reporting incorrectly that its low, it may trigger a shutdown. Whereas in download mode the os isn't running so its not reading the battery info the same way. Just a guess.

Just for future reference, factory resetting solves about 98% of boot hangs.
Still for both of you, id take this as a sign that you should make sure your backups are up to date. If something is failing you'll be glad you did!

Turns out it was the battery sir. I've tested it with another battery from 2 different phones and it worked fine. While the phone i tested with the defective battery didn't event get passed the samsung logo. I've suspected it might be having the low voltage causing the phone to shut down.
Anyways, after that i bought a new battery immediately and everything seems ok. thanks for the reply doc.

I can confirm that it is likely a bad power button, I have tried everything including dismantling it and seeing if I could dislodge any dirt that may be causing the problem but it didn't work. Looks like I have to find a local repair shop or ebay to get it resolved. Anyone recommend a good place to get this fixed. Funds are limited
Im not sure exactly how difficult the repair is most people seem so do it themselves and have given indications that its pretty easy. You can find the part online for a few bucks.
I was just using my phone like normal today opening up the transit app at the bus stop and it randomly froze and restarted. After that, it only shows the initial Google screen and just keeps bootlooping, but never even gets to the part where the OS is loading (with the google animation). It was just on stock 6.0.1, MTC20K I think. Was not rooted. Bootloader was/is unlocked. Secure boot was/is enabled. It won't even go into stock recovery (when I select recovery it immediately goes back to the Google screen and continues as if I had never selected recovery). I have tried manually flashing each piece of the latest factory 7.0.0 build (NRD90S), but even though fastboot says everything was successful, nothing seems to have changed. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Same thing just happened to me. I have no root or anything but it will not boot the OS. I hope there is a fix for the problem because I really want to use the phone.

No recovery for you either?
What was the latest Build you had when it was working fine?
To get into the recovery plug the phone into your computer. Go into fastboot (vol down + power) and select the power off option. When it turns off or goes to the charging screen, hold volume up + power to boot to download mode. Once in download mode, turn the phone off by holding vol down + power, then go back into fastboot and you should be able to now access recovery mode. This is what I did, and then flashed back to 6.0.1 and it runs fine now. No Idea why going into download mode allows you to then access recovery and get one clean boot, but it does

Surprisingly, this worked. I forgot about download mode being an option. I also am not sure why this worked.
Edit: The phone boots, but is still randomly rebooting rather often. Not sure why, as everything was wiped and it should have been a fresh install of everything.
Another Edit: Back to boot looping/not getting to the Android loading screen. I didn't do anything other than let it download my apps. Maybe it is a hardware problem after all because it did successfully boot into Android a couple times.
This seems to be a common problem which I have, too. Looks like a whole series of devices had these issues. Currently LG is unable to repair my device because auf missing spare parts they say. So after effortless 3 weeks they will send my unrepaired device back to me with a letter for my dealer to get back my money.

That is actually pretty good outcome. Pixel phone is coming out soon.
Just had this happen today. Streaming music over Bluetooth and using another app, then tried switching tracks in Google Play Music and the app froze. Phone was unresponsive with app on the screen, then screen went off and wouldn't power on.
I finally got it on by holding down power for 30 seconds, but kept boot-looping to Google boot screen. I was able to get into fastboot mode and wipe everything and install the factory image. Still doing the same thing!
Just got off phone with Google. Told the rep everything I had tried and she is working on a replacement order. Supposed to call me back after chatting with higher level support. I wish they would just send me a new Pixel phone, or the 6P at least!
Ive had the same issue, where I just couldnt get passed the Google screen, the only solution for me to get back on to my phone was to let it happen until the battery died. After i let the battery die i turned it back on normally and connected it to my charger, it hasnt turned off since but im sure it will sooner or later
Edit: Issue is still happening but the only way for me to turn it back on is because the battery dies
This just happened to my and my wifes phones...all within a week of each other. I sent my wife's in about a week and a half ago to LG for warranty service. I am hoping that they are able to fix it...it is still in the 'repair' phase. I am trying to decide whether or not I want to send my phone in (which just died yesterday) before or after LG figures out what is going on with my wifes. In both cases, the phones were running fine and just shut down by themselves. The battery was not dead. Each time, the phone will boot to the Google screen, but then immediate shut down. I can get in to recovery and do actions within there, so I do not believe it to be a battery issue. However, as soon as you attempt to boot the phone, it will die.
Were you guys using stock setups or custom ones?

Its a 'known' issue. Google has confirmed there is an issue. Only solution appears to be a warranty replacement.

on both phones, bone stock. Only difference was I was running the beta before getting the stock OTA and my wife's was full stock and received the stock OTA.
I'm having the exact same problem here. Running Android 6.0.1, rooted. Phone suddenly turned off and won't start past the "Google" screen, except for once when it booted fully then immediately shut down, and three times when it loaded the boot animation and shut down. Bootloader is unlocked and TWRP recovery is installed. I can access fastboot but not recovery. I've tried the suggestion of booting into download mode then recovery again, but that didn't work. I have NOT tried updating to Android 7 yet, so this isn't the same boot loop issue faced by some other users. I don't want to try flashing stock yet and lose my data because I have a ton of Tasker profiles and tasks that I haven't backed up in months and I don't want to risk losing them! Serves me right...
Any suggestions?

In my opinion your EMMC probably died, but you can try reflashing factory images to see if it is some other problem.
I would only try LGUP as a last resort because it will set Allow OEM unlocking to false and lock your bootloader, making further experimentation difficult.
BTW IMO the Android 7 bootloop probably isn't related to Android 7. I think they are just saying hardware problem (EMMC failure) that happens to show up more frequently when you have large updates of OS.
The way Google worded it, it made it seem like Android 7 is killing some hardware because of some incompatibility with just some isolated hardware builds.
I would suggest you let it keep booting and flash some factory images and sometimes EMMC will come back briefly and boot. If it does, immediately backup as much as you can before doing anything else.
Same deal for me and they are sending a replacement. This is a MAJOR blackeye!
Is your phone under warranty then? I am having the same problem as everyone on here. I've tried everything. I bought the phone just over a year ago though, so am a little concerned Google will turn around and tell me it's not their problem... Even though this is clearly a fault!
