Hey all,
I recently flashed the cyanogen 11 on my HOX. Just well it lacks a proper gallery (just like the sense one!) widget and a proper calendar widget.
So anyone have suggestions for good replacements?
I found several gallery widgets but they all seem to be badly written on the IO end. Or have some bad UI control which makes you want to throw it out the window so yeh.. ideally would be the HTC Sense one as it's perfect for my needs.
Calendar wise, again the HTC sense one is perfect.. so any that works exaclty like that would be awesome
Do note I also have my tablet flashed with CM11.. and kinda have the same issues.

This tread is more something for the Q&A forum, but never the less
what do you mean by gallery widget? like a photo frame?
for a "normal" gallery i use quickpic
as for the callender I use business callender. I found this by far the best cal so far! defenetly worth the money.
I do like cal also from the same defs as any.do
Yeh figured it should go to the Q&A forum right after I posted it... sorry.
Well quickpic has no widget.. I want what quickpic has as gallery in widget form
I'll check business calendar out thx

No, not without installing HTC Sense first. You're probably better off with a Sense ROM like LeeDroids.
Try LauncherPro - If you like it, unlock the Plus features ($2.99)
The plus features have widgets that look and act like the Sense widgets, including:
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Friends (Like FriendStream)
- Messaging
- People
- Bookmarks
It's great. And there are mods, so if you want to there's the possibility of making the widgets transparent, blue and so on.
I am not interested in all HTC Widgets. After reading different reviews I came to know that it eats battery and memory. However, I really liked the way HTC manages the Contacts. Mulitple social accounts linked at one place. I tried to find some decent app for that but didn't like any.

Use SuperVillian ROM.
I'm trying to find a way to acquire the stock evo RSS reader. I made the switch to CM7 but I haven't found a RSS reader I enjoy. I was happy enough with the stock app save for a few details. Anyone know where I can dl the apk to reinstall it?
The one for sense ? I'm pretty sure like any other sense app is not going to work on cm7

Have you tried Pulse? It's got a rather sleek UI and has decent feed management capabilities.
I'm not sure that its a sense app. It is a stock HTC app though so it's entirely possible that it has something to do with sense. Either way if it isn't part of the sense UI I want it back. I did try pulse a few months back and if I'm remembering it correctly, it has a windows phone theme to it. Either way I wasn't overly impressed.
Not sure if there are a lot of ex blackberry users here, but if anyone's used viigo on blackberry, that's more or less what I'm looking for. A good, simple, RSS reader. The preloaded app on the evo was close enough for me.
Here is a list of all the preloaded applications on the Stock EVO: http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/05/sprint-apps-and-other-software-preinstalled-on-the-htc-evo-4g.html
Do any of those apps ring a bell? If we can establish which app it is you're looking for it'll be easier to get an apk.
Edit: If it's the news app I'll search around and see if I can find it.
I tried a number, including Pulse and ended up settling on RSS Demon. I've liked it a lot so far.
SWYPED from my Evo with Eternal Prophecy 5.9 ROM. Yeah I said Swyped.
So far,, I need my news reader to have scrollable widget in adw/launcher pro. Scrollable widget and atom rss are alright but pulse news widget is the best, I had to pay 1.47 for it but it has allot of options.
There are 2 news apps preloaded, news/weather and news. I'm looking for "news" - the preloaded RSS reader.

I really enjoyed the note widget that came with Sense, but now I'm on the Kingdom Rom which didn't come with it. I searched around the market and the closest one I could find was Whiteboard, but it doesn't let me draw directly on the home screen. Any ideas?
Add Widget>Get More HTC Widgets>Notes.
Edit: Didnt See That You Tried It Already.
Is it possible that we can install the apk from a stock sense rom?
I used the task widget one and now I am forgetting stuff. lol. My phone runs my life.
Yeah I went through the HTC Hub and I only found the Word of the Day, Daily Challenge, and Fortune Cookie. I do enjoy the Daily Challenge, but I still miss my HTC Notes
I was wondering that as well. Unfortunately, I don't have the skillset to try to extract the widget from an earlier version of Sense.
Hi Im A Htc Sense Rom User, I Like Sense A Lot especially the links and it lets me stays organized. The Problem Is My Internal Memory Is Small (1.1 gb)
I Tried Cyanogenmod and i liked it a lot
the only thing im missing well everything in htc sense i want the speed of cyanogenmod but i keep on returning to sense roms.
my question is: is there a way i can replace the htc sense stuff in CM?
like the camera
flip to silent
smart dialer
htc widgets
contact linkup or at least to sync my contacts facebook pictures
sense keyboard
please help me i want cyanogenmod so bad but at least replacements for the sense stuff cz the sense rom are big in size ( 250 mb) and cyanogen is small & fast.
Take a closer look at these Apps:
like the camera ---> Camera360
flip to silent ---> LLama
smart dialer --> Contapps
htc widgets --> which? / what are they doing?
contact linkup or at least to sync my contacts facebook pictures --> contapps
sense keyboard --> ThickButtons
How many apps do you have installed? Because if you're filling it up with 1.1GB of apps, you're doing well!
My recommendation is to use a Sense ROM, then use a ROM cleaner script on top to clear out the stuff you don't use, giving you more space. Because Sense is a full framework, not just a few bits and pieces running on top, you are unlikely to find any replacements for Cyanogenmod that work quite as well.
This could be a bit off topic.
Is there anyway I can get the cynogenmod phone.apk to work with Sense?
I'm coming from mid-ranged and low-end phones to the DHD and all of them use phones.apks similar to the cyanogenmod one. It's been over two weeks and I still uncomfortable with Sense phone.apk.

this is what i recommend too, just strip out everything from the rom you dont want and then flash it
rather than starting at the ground up find replacements for everything, start with the finished article and start slimming it down

Well I Will Give You A Suggestion Try To backup the cyanogenmod dialer in titanium backup and restore it in any rom u want. Always backup first if it didnt work try finding something in the market. And i will try this and i will post a link or tell you if another way worked bro.
I went from an HTC hero which was my first android phone to an optimus v, my preferences for replacing most of the sense feeling is launcher pro for the Widgets and go contacts for the smart dialer/contact linkage. There is a patched HTC_ime somewhere on this forum that will install on a non-sense rom but I can't remember where or search it out right now.

Just search HTC IME into Google, first result V27, but it isn't updated anymore. That said, I use it, and it does work very well indeed.

I just saw this for the s3 and thought it would be pretty cool if we could get our hands on touchwiz for the one if anyone is capable of this it would be awesome.

why not just buy an S4 instead of a One

Ok, here it goes again, without the use of the F word.
Why would you want touchwiz on our phones?
Samsung literally tried their best to copy Apple, while failing miserably. Instead of clean and sophisticated (for 2007 standards, people) Touchwiz looked like it was designed by children for use by children. 5th grade classrooms want their ugly pastel colors back!
And now Apple has changed their design, to only leave Samsung and their steaming pile of Touchwized crap to wallow in their own poor, copied design.
I BET Samsung will change the next iteration of touchwiz.
It's unfortunate when others can't recognize poor design when it's being sold to them for 200-600 dollars.
I mean, I have no problem with variety and choices but I'm confident nobody is going to want to port TW to the One.
It's just so.....childish looking.
I do not hate Samsung at all, I actually used the S3 for quite a while and I liked it; however from my experience, TouchWiz is extremely slow and laggy.. I mean even the S4 with all its hardware capabilities still has A LOT of lagging issues because of TouchWiz. I'd rather an AOKP ROM with Samsung that one with TouchWiz, especially since all the Motion features and Samsung applications are just useless, practically speaking.

eurghhhhh! touchwiz is just ugly. I used to have the s3, couldn't stand touchwiz and so ran aokp on it. I really like the look of stock android but i have to say that i think sense 5 is nicer. Yes nicer than stock android. I think that sense 5 is the first custom skin that has ever looked nicer and ran just as well as stock. Why you would ever want to change that for touchwiz i will never know.

Someone needs to calm down....and I don't think Samsung copied apple at all....samsungs touchwiz and apple's ios look nothing and do nothing alike....

he just came here to troll
My hate to touchwiz was one of the main reason to quit Samsung and return to HTC.
Variety is good off course. But it will be waste of time for a developer because there will be a little to no interest on it.
Hello, noob here, please don't crucify me. I used to have a GS3 and while my HTC one M7 is a much more solid, faster and sexier phone there are some features that I REALLLYYY miss. First is the pull down menu from the home screen with all the GPS, bluetooth, wifi controls etc. Second, swiping left to call and right to text from contacts was great... really nice feature. Third, editing contact info or adding a new contact, or even going into the phone icon and trying to find a phone number is ponderous on this OS. Can someone recommend another OS or solution? I wasn't sure where else to post this or how to search for all these criteria, so I thought this thread was the best bet. Thanks for your time!

Custom Sense ROMs such as TrickDroid have the pull down menu with the horizontal row of scrollable buttons for WiFi, bluetooth, etc (it's called EQS - extended quick settings). Also, all 4.2.2 based ROMS (custom as well as stock) have the native EQS as well (you swipe down from the status bar with 2 fingers). I'm pretty sure there are 3rd party SMS/texting apps that will let you do the swipe thing. There are definitely 3rd party phone/dialer apps that handle contacts better, I suggest trying exDialer. It installs 2 icons, one called Dialer and one called Contacts. If you don't like how the program looks, there are plenty of themes for it. Always remember the good thing about Android is you're not forced to stick with default apps for almost everything. You can potentially replace all the default apps if you so choose: mail, calendar, dialer, contacts, camera, gallery, messaging, web browser, clock, calculator, etc.
Edit: there are also apps in the Play Store like "Notification Toggles" that give you EQS capabilities.
