Airplane mode, insane battery drain - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

See attached pic. Obviously, it hasnt actually been off charger over a day as shown by the gain on the graph. It has actually been about 12 hrs.
Ive tried various roms (aosp, stock, dn3, 4.1.2 - 4.4). The phone has no sim, i basically use it as a glorified ipod. It is always in airplane mode, everything connectivity wise is off except wifi. Why would the cell radio be using 61% of the battery when it is supposed to be off? Is there another way to disable it?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

After trying a variety of things, the best battery I have managed is ~22 hours, with light use, everything sync off, minimal apps.
The cell radio still eats 50%+ of the battery. Even in airplane mode, checking the radio via terminal still shows it is on.
Is there a way to just kill the radio entirely? Flash a bad image, a kernel without a modem driver... anything? It never need work as a phone again, so I'm open to anything.

[Q] Best Jelly bean Rom For battery Life

I'm wondering what ROM people have found to be best for battery life? I'm hoping to find something close to the stock Jelly Bean. I currently get about 6-8 hours on a charge and really need my phone to last me at least 12 hours. I'm not doing anything major just some email and texts maybe a short phone call.
Any advice would be appreciated.
You should be getting closer to 13 hrs
The stock rom is fine
Its your settings causing this
Keep wifi gps off #1
Brightness down
Turn sync off in settings
Manually push for your data
Use power saving mode
Set screen timeout to 15 or 30 seconds
Iff rooted govern the cpu down some
With rom tool box app
Not to many others have bad battery life
Good luck

My answer: switch to aosp. Though make sure you're not syncing unneeded crap, and brightness also affects battery life.
Are you connected to a 4G LTE network alot? I am running GOODNESS JB and I can usually get about 2 days worth if I'm not on 4G. If I am constantly connected to 4G I maybe able to get 6 hours of battery life.

My Gps was already off, I will try some of the other things you suggested, I don't see sync in the settings. I will also turn of the wifi when I'm not using it.
Its been awhile since I looked but the festure to turn sync on and off through account /settings is now crammed deep into ics and jb somewhere
It used to be right under settings accounts and sync when USING GB
Its all trial and error
Adjust adjust adjust , main thing is keep off or down on BRIGHTNESS AND GPS AND WIFI AND SYNC

[Q] Relatively unfair battery drain issue (Running stock JB 4.1.2 XXDLL4)

Or so I've come to believe it's unfair anyway, I just don't get how some people achieve 19+ hours or so on battery life, with 'heavy' usage as well like they claim.
I have posted some battery usage screenshots if it might be of any help.
When I was using the phone out of the box with an earlier stock firmware, it was the same as of now, even after my current XXDLL4 update. I always kill background apps, from ram and from running tasks, turn GPS off and other unused features, e.g. NFC, S beam, you name it. Like for example with these screenshots, I was using the phone moderately all day, a bit of browsing, some phone calls and a few games. Is 3 hours of screen time supposed to be normal with this battery reading? I don't get it Is there anything I can do to get these long hour performances on battery that everyone else seems to be getting with their note 2?
Im on stock unrooted 4.1.2 rom. Battery life was decent until I went to settings, application manger and then to all and disabled apps that I don't use including some widgets. Eg Simple alarm, learning hub, remote controls, Samsung sync etc and battery is significantly better.
With Whatsapp and Facebook running on the back ground all the time. .. I still manage to get 6hrs screen time.
However you must understand battery life is very much subjective to your signal strength, usage and the apps running in the background. Generally 4 to 5hrs on screen time with heavy usage such as 3d gaming etc is considered pretty good.
As long your phone can get through the day with a single charge, I would say that's good enough and enjoy every features of the phone without worrying about battery life
Hope I helped.

Thanks for your thoughts, another issue that I notice I'm having is this mediaserver battery drain, I've tried performing a few fixed including removing album art, trying .nomedia, even removing all music altogether, but nothing seems to work. I'm starting to believe all these people with 10+ hours of screen on time have been photoshopping the screenshots! LOL! Seriously, the battery life is starting to resemble an old iPhone 4 that I used to own.
Update your rom....

Look at this screen shot
Your phone must go in sleep mode to achieve a good battery life.

Can you be more specific? Which rom do you know out there that isn't custom? I prefer stock only. If Thanks

Are u able to identify what are the apps constantly running in your background?
I highly suggest u to do these few things for now.
1) update your rom to the latest 4.1.2 rom provided in your country. Go to settings, about device and go to software update or download Samsung kies, connect your phone to samsung kies if you have the latest stock rom.
2) Turn off sync.
3) Run through all your apps settings and phone settings. Turn off unneeded notifications
4) Go to application manager, scroll to all and disable whatever stuff you dont use. If it breaks something, just re enable it.
5) After all of above, go to application manager again, scroll to running applications and see what is running in your phone background.
6) if you have problems with media scan, go to application manager. Scroll to all and clear cache of the following apps. Download provider, downloads, media storage, gallery and drm protected storage and reboot the phone.
Another small tip is I diabled google search, Dropbox, disabled online search under contact settings, disable sync with wifi in gallery settings, disabled talkback, turn off all notifications in google plus settings. Turned off Facebook notofications and auto update.
Let us know if it works for u

I think your stats are okay. Because you're using H+. If you switch to 2G you'll see massive gain in backup.
Besides, 4.1.2 literally killed 15-20% backup from 4.1.1, don't know what was ****ing point, but Samsung did it! Just keep monitoring via Better Battery Stats, which apps/process are causing wakelocks, and then do the needful.
'Swyped' from my GT-N7100
It seems like there is too much wakelocks, judging by your stats. You are not rooted, right? If so, it's impossible to diagnose the wakelocks without simply guessing and eliminating which app is causing them.
The maps wakelock caused by Google now, along with AudioOut_2 and media scanner are among the most dire. The first can be "fixed" by disabling location services.

Just for your information. Your battery performance really below par which note 2 it should be.
2hours plus on screen time and 10 hours operating time left 5% was totally unacceptable.
With super heavy use, note2 at least must be able to last 10hours++ with 3.5 hours on screen with 20% left.
( with 3g, wifi and gps always on. Continuos download 2 movies using qvod for about 2 hours)

[Q] ICS Battery Drain

Hi All:
I am experiencing tons of wakeups by com.android.phone regardless of 3G or LTE which drains my battery 6%+ per hour. However, if I have wifi, the drain drops to minimal. I turned off Fast Dormancy already, Any suggestion or fix?

Frank

Which stock ICS are you running? Do you have wind kernel installed? Download and run better battery stats to see what wake locks you have. In regards to Fast Dormancy disabling it will either give you better or worse battery life. What is it? Its a tech used by the phone company to save battery power by putting the phone's radio in a low power state yet never relinquishing the data connection, so when you wake up your phone it doesn't have to spend the 3-5 sec reestablishing the data connection. The phone's software works hand in hand with this, however if your phone co in your area doesn't support it the phone's software will never let it sleep, therefore disabling fast dormancy will improve battery life. However if you have it disabled and your area supports it your data connection will never be released and therefore your phone's radio will never be shut off using battery. On top of that this is only a function of an HSPA/3G coverage area. With 2g (edge) or LTE its meaningless. Two more suggestions:
1. Power off the phone and remove the battery for 30 sec - 1 min. Then reassemble and power back on. For some reason this will fix the deep sleep suspend wake lock.
2. If you are rooted and have cwm installed, boot your phone into recovery. Create a backup. Reformat the system and data partitions. Reinstall your ROM, then go to restore/backup and select advanced restore. Select data then the backup just done. After complete reboot.
Good luck.

Unfortunately No. Battery still drains 7%+ per hour on mobile network. On wifi, it's 1%. I have turn on Fast Dormancy just for the sake of it. Maybe need to move to CM 10.1. However, I play games on the phone sometimes and enjoy the snappy response of ICS.
I've been having problems with battery drain, from 6-7% an hour to more than 15% with the latest CM RC.
Changed over to Pac Rom, seems to be a lot better for battery power so far but a bit laggy.

A couple more things to try:
Wind kernel 3.6
Disable syncing.
Make sure you are not using LG supplied weather app widget bad power hog.
If disabling Sync works but you still need to get things like email notifications try using DS battery saver from the play store.

I will try Wind 3.6 and had tried Juice Defender and DS Battery Saver, but with 4G, the phone cannot go into deep sleep. It keeps searching for network, hence the wakelocks. I doubt Wind 3.6 can resolve the issue. Anyway I can use a different com.android.phone?

Try this:
Settings
Wireless & Network: Select MORE
Select MOBILE NETWORK
Select NETWORK MODE
Select GSM/WCDMA Auto
This will turn LTE off and should fix you issue, in most instances HSPA+ (4G on AT&T) download speeds are just as fast as LTE without the power issues.

I am having screen frozen issues with Wind 3.6, so have to revert back to 3.4 The disabling of LTE does not help the com.android.phone wakelocks. To summarize, my P936 cannot go into deep sleep while on Mobile Data regardless of LTE or 3G. I turned off sync and wechat app, but leave gmail and whatsapp in the background. Any more suggestion?

In the past I had issues with the whatsapp creating wake locks. Now this goes back to last year but I stopped using that app because of those issues. Try freezing it and reboot. Also when is the last time you calibrated your battery? Just in case you don't know: charge to 100%, while still plugged in reboot into recovery and wipe battery stats, then reboot your phone and unplug. Keep your phone off the charger till the battery goes dead and the phone powers down on its own. Then charge to 100% with the phone off. Also I think I asked this before which version of v20 are you running?

Disabling phone feature completely

Hi
Have a note 2 n7100X live demo. After playing around with it and a few ROMs cm10.1 seems to work well with no freezing meaning I can use it as a tablet device which is cool.
However, while battery performance is far from terrible 'mobile standby' is using up the most by far despite a live demo not being able to take a sim card etc.
So my question is this, is there any way to disable the phone feature in its entirety?
Cheers

Could you please post the battery stats?
I believe you can freeze the phone.apk file using titaniu backup.
Also, whether you tried having your phone in Airplane mode?
Because generally a phone will try searching for a SIM card and waste it's battery till it finds one. Putting in airplane mode disables the mobile networks. So, the phone won't look for SIM Card. Try this It might work.
Cheers for the reply
I can't figure how to take a screenshot of battery on cm but its at 67% for mobile standby. That's on overall 84% from 8 hours. Like I said not too bad so I can't complain too much but I wouldn't mind just disabling it to save a bit more
The thing with airplane is it kills WiFi too unless there's a way to stop that happening?

Battery life issues

Hi,
Something seems to be draining my battery. I froze QuickRemote apps, it didnt improvement.
Any ideas? This way since i bought it
I turned of sync in the settings. And I described services with the built in task manager. Long press home button then tasks manager. Then hit the menu key. You will see a list of everything with services. I checked almost all of mine then hit OK.. It keeps those spots listed from running background services. Helped My battery life out..

I am also facing the battery drain issue and wifi stuck during browsing or downloading. Stand by time is also not good 7% drain in 7 hour. How can i find the issue is in battery or is hardware problem?
Charge your device up by to 100% and then fully discharge your battery to recalibrate the battery. I'd say try this two times.
Also, one thing weird about this device is, turning on WiFi drains the battery faster than using LTE.

Its probably because of the value pack update. Its modem causes constant wake locks. Going back to the original stock modem will fix that.

Flash the official stock rom fully discharged the battery and charge it to full. Play music use wifi half an hour and medium use. Attaching pics. Is it ok now or ?
