Hi,is anyone else having problem downloading apps via Market?I've got an unbranded, unrooted Froyo Desire and downloads were fine yesterday but for some reason unknown,Google Market has refuse to complete downloads. Is this issue general?Cheers

It is driving me crazy all day as well! I got the impression that it was because I installed a new ROM or because I added an EXT partition in Clockworkmod recovery. This was the first time I wanted to try A2SD and it drove me crazy all day not being able to download apps anymore...
Not over Wifi, not over 3G...
And now I have to conclude more people are having this problem today haha
OMG
Yer its killing me,
I need to download My Backup Pro
Just flashed rom and cannot restore nothing.
Just noticed the same issue, was trying to update the YouTube app and download failed. Have tried a factory reset and this hasn't worked. There is a list of possible fixes on the Google support forum, just search for marketplace fix.
Seems odd that several people are having the same issue on the same day, perhaps its a marketplace fault?
Yeah the market is not working properly at the moment.

Damn I need my apps!
Alright so it's not just me going nuts...
same for me. been all night. driving me mad.
Someone from an android forum website suggested the following quote and guess what?,it worked! :-
"I know its going to sound daft, but load up Google talk, sign in, and then retry. I had a problem with my Hero back in the day and that worked. My downloads are going through fine atm"

Market working again
Had the same issue all day yesterday. The Market is working again this morning.
Had the same problem last night. It seems to be working fine today.
Working for me too this morning, tired the Google Talk tip along with many others re: clearing out various caches but none seemed to work. Obviously a fault with the market place than our actual phones.
So is this a common problem then, as I've just recently flashed my phone to 2.2 on the JPM firmware. I was beginning to think it was this, but after I thought about it, it happened to me this morning while I was still running 2.1.
How annoying!
hmm it diden't work yesterday for me but this morning it worked. but now it dosen't :S
I was having the same problem and tried the talk app logging in method which had worked previously in similar circumstances, but this time didn't work yesterday. Later I cleared the cache for the market app via the settings menu and it worked immediately, but was slower than usual.
my unrooted 2.2 desire will not update or download new apps from the market either.
i was thinking it was a memory issue.... had some issues on ota rom upgrade recently and i needed to uninstall 'Google earth' to get it to work despite phone showing ample memory free.
Also I have had the problem since downloading 'voice search' or this could be a coincidence.
So my phone or marketplace fault?
Is everyone else able to download/install again now?
[SOLVED] This is not a market / memory / phone issue
Guys,
I was having this exact same problem and after doing a bit of searching on the internet I found a solution:
It's something to do with internal phone cookies / tokens. The market depends on two sets of data - the market app and "download manager".
You can fix this problem easily in the future if you force close both, and then clear the cache and the data from both from settings -> applications -> manage apps
The reasons signing into google talk would have worked is that it updated the internal token
It seems the time out is very brief - but this is indeed the issue and its fixed every time using this method.
As far as I can tell there is a bug on Android developers already registered.
Sorry Mate ... doesen't fix the problem for me
make sure you force close the apps, market and download manager. then clear the data.
click on your market download list to rebuild it too. then it should work
I had same problem on my desire, and I looked the way to fix it. On phones memory was just 8% of free space, and I erased some apps. On the end I concluded that phone can't download or update anything if it has less than 10% free memory space. After I erased some apps and on that way make more free space on phones memory I was easy downloaded and updated apps from market. I must say that I have non rooted phone.
I hope so that I help with my thread.
Hey, I recently updated to Android Revolution HD 6.1 and since that update the new market app is getting stuck on a loading screen whenever I try to update some apps, others work fine so I was just wondering if anyone else is having this issue with the new market app or the market in general?
I too seem to be having issues with the market, some times it works sometimes it does not want to play ball. . . .
I'm also having this issue on Android Revolution HD 6.1. It is only present in a few apps though, and appears to be at random. I can usually fix it with a restart . Never thought much of it, always presumed it was because of my dodgy internet!
Glad to know it's not just me, I still haven't managed to update Google+, and I've noticed you are more likely to have the hangup when a app requires a manual update as it seems to be the modified permissions page that doesn't load.
it can be fixed if more than 1 apps are ready to update...
in such case go for update all.............
if it comes to 1 app......reboot............
It's not just ARHD, guys. I'm having the same issue with a CM7-based ROM.
Ok so is it the market in general then, at least I finally got the new G+ installed after a couple of reboots, annoying but it is a solution for now.
HTC Desire, CM7 and same problem here after market updated itself automatically yesterday
I've used appbrain as a workaround
So does mine also... but it happens even when I am ready to download an app!?
I'm having the same problem on a rooted Galaxy S2 running stock (ish) ROM.
It's the market. I don't know why but it just isn't running as it should be. Perhaps it could be a problem in general because of rooted phones, and the websites inability to link it to your account (I've had this happen with a couple of roms)
Mostly though it depends on which time of day you try. Sometimes it flies, but for the most part it is sluggish.

go into the talk app if your signed in then sign out and back in.
Same problem here. Using CM7, when I click on the market and attempt to download the apps that I purchased, I get stuck at the the loading screen. It will sit there stating that it's loading. It doesn't do this with all apps, but at this time, one of the apps having this problem is XDA.
I did notice that you can get the app to load if you go through market.android.com and "push" the app to your device.
This is ridiculous and wondering if there is any word of what the problem can be.
I have a similar problem too, searching about it seems its something to do with googlemail changing to gmail in uk but I can't quite find a resolution?
Go :
Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All
Find Market and select Force Stop and then Clear Cache.
Usually fixes most Market problems.
It does work but I found I had to forcestop and clear data again after a few minutes?
It's the new Android Market. It has nothing to do with rooted phone, or CM7, or anything else. I use a Samsung Galaxy S 2, ROM directly upgraded from Samsung to Android 2.3.5 using Samsung Kies. I get the same problems:
(1) Often when updating an app individually, it gets stuck on "Loading..." forever. "Update All" button is a workaround, but can't do that for apps that require a manual update.
(2) Sometimes when I launch the Market, it shows a small partial list of my installed apps. Shows only about 6-7 of them only. Nothing to update. I need to go to "Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Market > Clear Data". Have needed to repeat these steps probably once each day for the past week.
Damn annoying. Is there a proper way to let Google know about it?
Although I think I did notice that sometimes trying again the next day would work. i.e. it would update an app I couldn't manually update the day before.

Uninstall the new market update and that will solve the problem.
Market Update
remove market with titanium backup then Just install this market update
Did a search but didn't find anything useful.
Recently my apps have been un-installed without me knowing anything about it. The only thing I can think of is I've updated to the NEW android market and Go Launcher ex. This problem started happening soon after these two updates, so I uninstalled the market update and I'll see if it's still a problem.
Anyone else experience this problem?
Btw, I'm on StarBurst v1.8 (didn't have this problem, just recently after market and launcher update)... then again it could be anything???

Yes! (WiFi Tethering by OpenGarden, Inc) ... ?
Update: I un-installed android market update and to my surprise, my old apps started showing up again...wtf? (before I couldn't find them anywhere, app drawer and application management, now they're back everywhere...lol weird).
About that wifi-tether...?
I've been having the same problem, and I'm not even rooted yet. Oh well...

I have go launcher and the new market as well, and sometimes in my folders an icon will turn generic but still work, sometimes will be generic and say application not installed, check the manage apps page and sure enough they arent listed. reboot the phone and they are usually there. Im gonna go back to the older market and then see if it fixes (one of) my problems...
Anyone else seeing Google Maps FC a lot lately? It seems to be related to finding my location (either in Latitude or Maps itself). Sometimes the map tiles won't get drawn, other times it just force closes.
Seeing this on mine (GSM) and my GF's VZW version.
Nop but have you tried clearing the app cache?
Galaxy Nexus Stock + Franco m3
YES! this happens with me too lately! dunno why!
SOLVED for me!
Had the same issue, and this worked for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1467313
I was experiencing the same thing and chalked it up to a bug so I uninstalled Maps updates and have been refusing to update until a new version comes out.
The fix permissions thing, I feel like that could be risky... I guess I could take a nandroid backup first and then try it.
I am having this problem and I just bought my GSM Nexus from Play Store... Whats wrong with Maps app? Keeps force closing...
STOCK. Not rooted.
Cleared cache and settings in Settings > Apps > Clear.

And the problem continues to this day. I almost wanted to start a new thread, until I stumbled upon this one.
Stock Jellybean JRO03C, rooted, slightly themed (to get rid of gradient background). Maps is at 6.9.2 as shipped with the image, and have not had an update since.
Maps keeps force closing every few hours even when I'm in other apps and have not started Maps myself. FC reports says it's an out of memory exception. This only started after I upgraded to JB; it was fine on all versions of ICS, even when rooted.
I had this issue upgrading from 4.2 to .4 uninstalling the map updates did the trick

Unfortunately I don't have an update I can uninstall.
I have for now restricted it from doing background data and see what happens. Next - block it off using Droidwall; still next - disable it outright...

Hi all,
This morning I received a notification from my provider , that I have used all the data within my bundle.
I started investigated what was using this because normally I use about 20% of the entire bundle.
I found out that google services used 400 mb within 2 weeks time !
After searching some time I found some older threats pointing out this was due to a android update.
I immediately thought of the release of 4.3
I made some logging with logcat, and the log shows the data is indeed used to download the OTA update.
I am running an AOSP rom 4.2.2 RasSaber.
But this rom does not have an option whether to check for OTA updates or not.
Can anybody tell me how to stop this OTA from being tried to download over and over?
Everytime my phone gets restarted, it tries to download again.
Code:

Bump.
This has started happening to me too. I'm running cm10.1 20130706 nightly. I've seen this happening to people using the nexus 4 and other custom ROMs.
Has this issue been fixed yet in a newer nightly?
same here
having the same problem.
It uses up all my mobile data. 500MB.
I am running liquidsmooth in Nexus 4.
I love android. But This is really pushing me to iPhone.
same thing for me with aokp ... as a workaround i restricted "google services" in mobile-networks. But this has of course downsides.
Isn´t there anything to prevent the download from happening again and again ?
Same here Google services has used 0.9GB in 2 days. Same as the OP I was informed by my supplier. Bit worrying and is there a fix?
Guys I am facing such extremely annoying Google Services (DownloadManager in BBS) battery drain + mobile/wifi data usage issue and I have been searching for some hours.
First of all I have tried the most answered solution - clearing the data of all those stuffs related to Google Services - well it did not work so well.
Then I don't think freezing download manager / factory reset / restrict background data / disabling google services framework are good solutions as I myself did not make changes related to this recently so a factory reset should not be needed, plus the other mentioned solutions would cause syncing issues with Google and this doesn't suit my lifestyle of heavily depending on various google services.
Many of you have proposed that the massive download / repeated downloads are related to downloading the 4.3 OTA and that might be possible according to the similar file sizes as well as logcats you have found. But on the other hand one of the solution - disabling Network Locations settings has also stopped the "download" triangle from constantly staying there when my wifi is on. Therefore we can conclude that it is partially related to the 4.3 OTA download which cannot be disabled on our custom ROMs, as well as partially about the stock Network Location settings.
Fortunately after many posts that do not provide a feasible answer I have found this xda post which addresses the issue related to the Google Play Store 4.1.6. Some of the users have reported that 4.1.10 has fixed the issue and some even said the newest version 4.2.9 is over the internet since 25/7 together with 4.3 update.
Not sure why such critical update did not roll out to the unluckily bunch of us from Google, but I have found the Android Police source about 4.1.10 fixing the "Network Location bug which hogs the battery" and hopefully this will stop the DownloadManager wakelock as well as the crazy battery drain + data drain by Google Services.
I haven't tested this thoroughly because I will probably need a day to check out whether it stops the crazy behaviour but I would just like to share with you guys my founding as soon as possible so you guys can try it out together with me. The latest Google Play Store 4.2.9 apk can be downloaded from Android Police here.
Hope I have helped! Good luck to you and me!
will give that a try .. however i have my doubts that new play store will prevent the phone from downloading OTA.
And actually I wonder why our fantastic Custom-ROMs have not disabled this (OTA-check etc..).
I have had the same exact problem yesterday, I am on a pre paid plan and the stupid thing used all my credit by downloading 112mb (I'm sure it would use more the instant I add credit) but it does nothing on wifi. If it is indeed an OTA issue with 4.3 the only fix maybe to flash android 4.3 to stop the OTA from downloading said 4.3? Just a thought. I will try it now as I have free time and will let you guys know if it works. It really is a stupid problem to have.
I am on Slim ROM, I thought the OTA service was not included in most of the custom ROM's so it won't look for an update, how come it is doing it anyway?
I have the same problem, over 1.5gigs downloaded in 2 days.
Used up all my mobile data and uses my wireless at home!
btw I'm using Nexus 4
Well this is new, Download Manager just started using my Wifi used about 50mb (it would be more but I only noticed the wifi being used and installed the app) so maybe around 80mb. I've attached 2 images, if anyone can figure out what's going on or get in contact with google somehow and let them know what's going on. I don't want to add anymore credit to my account because I fear it will just be wasting money.
I'm going to flash 4.3 now and see what happens. Will update asap cause this is ridiculous.
UPDATE: Flashed 4.3 and got rid of all the google bloat (maps, earth, hangouts etc) cleared cache and dalvik cache in recovery. Sent $10 credit to my phone and so far all is well, Google services only used 14kb so far (this is on mobile data) I will continue to use mobile data for the rest of the day and weekend to see what happens. So far it works:
So flash 4.3 and it seems the update is no longer pushing or pulling from the servers.
UPDATE 2: About 5 hours in and Google services are not going crazy as before. It really could be an OTA update issue, I should have tried the play store update mentioned by Miasmic but I was so frustrated I just flashed. If someone can try and confirm Miasmic's method we could all save other people from this trouble.
This still sucks and google owes me $20 US, how an update was being pulled from Slim ROM I have no clue.
So in conclusion flashing/updating to android 4.3 cured my problem. Hope it helps someone else who has these troubles, or at least you can cut your data being used up before you reach a cap or lose all your credit like me.

Thanks for the constant updates! I myself have confirmed that updating the play store does not work. Finally I copied the old good FOTAkill.apk from gingerbread times to /system/apps and it stopped all the google services data hogs. However seems like my Hangouts app is not receiving messages since then.
I am also planning to upgrade to 4.3 as soon as I got the time. Sigh Google, what a cool way to **** up all of us custom roms users.
Here's how to disable the OTA download on any ROM
Install Autorun Manager from the Play store.
Then enter its recommended advanced mode.
Go into the settings and enable the following: system entries and system app disable.
Disable com.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Recieve r under Google Service Framework
It would be great if the OP could be updated with this
@joshuab227,
I did this but... Can it be that this fix also disables app updating in the play store?
A bunch of free apps was updated, but the play store didn't showed them as.
I couldn't update my apps to new versions via the official/original play store.

I don't think it disables play store updates.
I still have pending updates showing in my play store for a few apps I have chosen not to update (maps and talk) after disabling the system update service
EDIT : Just double checked if play store is still updating correctly by uninstalling my Skype and restoring an older version from titanium backup.
The update for Skype showed up immediately when I viewed my apps in the play store.

FOTA kill prevent any OTA from downloading to your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30205683
Hi, just wanted to check in and confirm that I do have the same issue. I'm on AOKP 4.2.2, maybe it is an AOKP issue, that they didn't disable the OTA functionality completely?
I remember when 4.2.x or even 4.1 was rolling out, I had the same issue, also on AOKP rom.
I had to switch to stock 4.2/4.1 until AOKP released their update.
It's really annoying though.. I'll raise a bug for AOKP.
So only solutions is disabeling the receiver or installign FOTAkill.apk?
What does FOTAkill.apk disable? only the OTA or also other Google Services?
I cannot tell for sure that it is only blocking OTA updates because I have not seen the code.
But my auto upload of pictures to google+ is still working.
I haven't experienced any other stuff not working anymore.
Only thing is that it stopped downloading that OTA every time my phone rebooted
Thats a good test when you want to make sure you don't have the issue anymore ....
