Most of my music is on my Mac but I noticed that you can't transfer music from a Mac to a Note since the drive won't come up. Is there a way to do it?
Hello,
You will need to use Android File Transfer utility.
Hope this helps
i transfer music all the time from my mac to the note. use android file transfer and just drag it over from iTunes or the folder.
Not a Mac but this should work with any OS - set up file sharing on your computer (Windows/Mac/Linux) to share the folder containing your music and then on your phone use ES File Explorer or another app that supports LAN servers to log on, then you don't even need to be at your computer to copy stuff to your phone as long as your computer is on and you're connected to the same network as the computer.
Kies does this for you. But I hate kies and don't use it personally. Double twist (music player) from market acts just like Itunes. You can try that it if you miss the iPhone type transfers.
Edit: but everyone else here mentioned correct answers. If you can't use android file transfer, probably because an old version of kies is blocking it. You have to download latest version and click uninstall, you can't just delete the app.

Yes, Kies (download the latest version) and it works flawlessly. Drag and drop.
* I don't get how some people are so bashful about Kies. The truth is it's simple, clean, straight forward and it WORKS.

Samsung Kies works fine. I like AirDroid better for all file transfers - music, pictures, documents etc.

It looks like I've lost Kies Air for good. Are there any good options / applications / apk for wireless access to the SD card, Ringtone folders music and whatnot.
Kies provided access through the browser which was nice - not needing a client side install.
i don't even use Kies Air
i use Drop Box, way easier

How do you get .zip files onto you SD card? Or Ringtones into the right folder?
Just use software data cable, it lets you connect ur phone with the pc and go thru your sd card thru wifi
Ive been using this for a while since i hate usong the usb cord

OK Software Data cable is getting closer. It provides access to the Android file system via FTP. But in the file system I don't know where the Ringtones are, Where the pictures go and so on.
Again I want to say why Kies is awesome. Access to text based call log via browser window, Text Message records via browser window, Add ringtones easily (important to me anyway), access to expandable contacts list via browser window, Add and manipulate bookmarks, and of course photo, video, and music access including working with playlists.
All that plus a file browser.
This just makes working with the everyday aspects of the phone easier and provides for rooting around in the file system as well.
I'm looking for something that will do all of those things. Or at least some of them beyond the file browser.

Well theres a download for kies, cuz i dont think theres any other app that can do all that

Thanks (click). Any special things to consider when installing a system app? Like permissions or placement?
Nah, it can be installed as a user app, but if you want, after you install it, you can use titanium backup to convert it into a system app

i use wifi file explorer...it works really well..just connect to wifi, it gives you an ip and you just type that into your browser and you can explore all the files on your phone
My Sync Center
I use WiFi File Explorer. Pretty solid.
I also saw My Sync Center on Android Police. Haven't tried it yet, but it looks pretty slick.
I had some troubles importing my old mp3s to my shiny new galaxy nexus. I thought sharing my experience would help others.
1) I could not connect to download mp3s using MTP to my ubuntu 10.4 box running libmtp 1.0.2
2) ?ptp kinda worked but kept failing
3) I ended up using ghost commander file manager with a samba (SMB) plug in to download my music over my wifi from a SMB share on my linux box.
4) My mp3s wouldn't show up in music!! Bah!
5) after some thought, I decided the phone wouldn't expect music to show up outside of MTP or ?PTP xfers, so I rebooted it
6) wooohooo my mp3s now show up in the music app!
Have fun!

Look for a file manager that will force a rescan after copying files or download an app that does it there are a few in the market.

MTP might be better technically than USB Mass Storage, it is terrible for users. On OSX, for instance, you need to download and use the Android File Transfer utility, which might look like a Finder window, but it lacks crucial features.
The fact that you can't see your device's memory as a normal file system means that you can't sync directories, for instance. I have a collection of 15k photos which I like to keep in sync between my Mac and my phone. If I have to use Android File Transfer to retransfer all of them it's a disaster. Before my Nexus, when I used to be able to just see my device as a folder I would use rsync to copy only the files modified, which would take no time.
So the question is: is there any way to sync folders without copying files around by hand?
I use AirDroid to transfer files. It's a pretty awesome app, but as for syncing folders I use DropBox.
Nothing ground breaking in this post here so I probably didn't help you out all that much.
I'm trying to sync folders with Samba Filesharing via Wifi with SyncToy in PC.
Thanks for the Samba and Dropbox suggestions. I don't want to pay for Dropbox just to be able to sync files, but perhaps a Samba share would work. I'll try and report.
I did try Airsync and was impressed. Except it doesn't fulfill the syncing requirements, and it crashed my gnex the first time I tried transferring a file (had to remove the battery and all). It may not have been Airsync's fault. But it did coincide with the transfer just finishing.
I use rsync over ssh (rsync/ssh installed on the phone, sshd server on my computer, commands saved to a script in /sdcard and started with ConnectBot). Works beautifully, one single touch on the phone and all the files I want from the phone and from the computer get sent to their appropriate spot. It means I don't have to plug anything into my computer or do anything on my computer. I had to manually install the rsync/ssh binaries, as I'm running the stock ROM (rooted).
I should look into a way I can do a two way sync. i.e. I'd love to see a way where if a file is deleted on my phone after a sync, that it can be deleted on the desktop if the the file is still older than the last sync...

Do you need more than 2 GB's for the folders you're syncing? The answer is obviously yes, since you said you didn't want to pay for it, but you can have a free 2 GB account with Dropbox.
I've use SugarSync on occasion, but it's as simple, I guess you could say?, as Dropbox is so I only use SS for larger files that I need sync'd.
Dropbox is one of my go-to apps. It's so easy to throw a file into one of your Dropbox folders, long press the file on your phone, and share and/or be given a link so you may send it to someone else to download/use. I also use it as a back-up to my PC's, phone, and external hard drives, you know, just in case my HD decided to die or if I need to access particular (smaller) files from anywhere.
Hope you're able to find a solution for yourself. Good luck.
"FolderSync" does it all and works well for me. I have it auto sync my pics every day to my NAS. It supports most everything.

Ok, I know I'm not crazy, but is there ANY way, besides Bluetooth, to transfer large files between the LGOG and another Phone?
I've tried the LGOG's FileShare app but it refuses to recognize my GS3 even after they both connect via Wi-Fi Direct. And just using plain ol' Wi-Fi Direct doesn't even come up as a sharing option on this phone. I can't use NFC obviously because it's only intended for small files and links. I've already tried bluetooth, but I have another thread floating around this forum detailing my experience with my LGOG being unable to connect to ANY other phone after it powercycled when connected to a friend's GS3. (On a side note, it did it AGAIN when I was connected to my bluetooth speaker today)
This is the only thing that freaking bugs the hell out of me about this device. The lack of options to wirelessly share files between devices. Obviously my bluetooth is most likely defective. Waiting on a custom OS to see if that will resolve my BT issues. But come on, this is ridiculous.
EDIT:
Oh, and the SmartShare app limits you to only Pictures, Video, and Music!
You could always connect both phones to a PC and put them in MTP mode (not charge mode) and the PC will recognize them both as a media player, allowing you to browse the entire file system. Then just copy the file from one phone to the other using PC.
Can't WiFi direct be used? I know you tried it but maybe your doing something wrong. Sadly I've never messed with it

Yeah, I know the old school way. I'm just looking for a way to do it wireless.

Well, I have a GS3 also. On that phone, whenever you long press on a file/app and click "Share", Wi-Fi Direct comes up as one of the options to use as a file transfer medium. All you have to do is clock wifi direct and click the device and BOOM! The file starts sending. However, on the LGOG, it's not that simple for some odd reason. I can turn on wifi direct on both phones AND link them. But if i wanna send a file from my LGOG to another wifi direct device, it doesn't come up as a share option. You can open up Smartshare and use the LGOG like a DLNA server and play/upload music, movies, and pictures from the LGOG to the other wifi direct device. But Smartshare (unless i'm using it wrong) only limits you to those three options. What if I want to transfer an 850MB .zip or .iso file???
You could try "samba file sharing" on the market. Phone should show as a samba share on your windows network. Then you can use es file explorer, LAN, access the share. Have not tried, but this should enable wireless file sharing.

Haha, so funny that you mentioned that app. I did an intense search and ended up stumbling on Samba Fileshare a few hours after my last post. Has a tendency to force close every now and then but it works pretty good.
I'm trying (and failing) to transfer mp3 files from my PC to my new Galaxy Watch 3. I know I can use the Wearable app, but I don't want to duplicate the files on my phone and then upload them to my watch. Also not wanting to do it through bluetooth, which will take forever.
I want, but can't find the simple "Music Manager" wifi function as seen in the vid below and the Samsung support articles:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3v54WyNbQg
https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00078019/
https://www.samsung.com/hk_en/suppo...er-music-files-from-iphone-to-gear-s2-s3-fit/
I've tried the Teleporter app, and it's never worked for me. I even tried out this crazy solution using the Tizen Studio:
https://www.reddit.com/r/gearfit/comments/5pww1w/music_transfer_with_no_samsung_device/
from which I managed to upload an mp3 file into my watch after launching the device manager, but my watch's music program couldn't recognize the basic mp3 file (though I saw it in there using a file explorer).
How can they make it this impossible? Why can't we just upload files straight from our PC?
What am I missing?
