I was using my Galaxy S2(SGH-T-989) normally today and it suddenly crashed when I opened my tether app. Now all it does is reboot constantly unless I remove its power source/battery. Sometimes the Samsung logo pops up but the screen just stays black and the phone constantly vibrates like its turning on. I tried to boot into both download mode and recovery mode withe every possible key combination and it does not work.
I also tried removing the battery and let it sit a while without power and then put the battery back in. As soon as i put the battery in it starts up in the loop again.
running Clockwork recovery mod and cyanogen
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I haven't tried that yet since I dont have access to a wall charger but I do have access to a usb cable and it does the same thing like the battery. I will try tonight.
Edit:
same thing with a wall charger. It just vibrates like it starts up and sometimes a samsung logo will appear but it then boots up again and again.

Sounds like a sticky power button, do a search on this forum section for that and you will find a possible workaround for it.

So I first heard about the ported ICS rom on Galaxys2root.com So I downloaded and flashed the file from there which was about 300mbs. Flashed then got stuck in a bootloop. I was able to restore a backed up rom. I thought it might've been the wrong rom so I found a thread here with ICS ROM. Flashed it... same boot loop problem except the first rom boot halfway to a att boot screen. this one just stayed black. At first power button turned on the phone to a battery screen but then turned black.. no animations followed. Now the phone is not responded to any button pushes. It just vibrates intermittently when I plug it in to my charger. It had maybe 35% battery life when it got caught in the boot loop the second time. I'm thinking since the power button was working at first that maybe the intermittent vibrating is because my battery is now dead and it won't charge? Is that possible or is my phone just fuqed? Some one please help!!!!!!!! p.s sorry for the long post.

Seems like you messed up on wipes. I had different problem when i didnt wipe well. The link you posted from this forum is not usable ICS. Try to get ur phone on download mode and flash via odin.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, I read later on in that thread that I was supposed to perform a super wipe. Also I can't get my phone into download mode. It won't even turn on. It just vibrates maybe every 3 seconds when I plug it in to charge. When its not plugged in it won't do anything.
Try using a different cable to get into download mode. Specifically an LG cable. I've heard of this working for other people.

Yes I've tried pulling the battery. Does nothing except vibrate when i plug it in to charge. still won't turn on. Why is the vibrate a good thing?

Any kind of response from the phone is a good thing. Worst case scenario is phone literally doesn't do anything or respond to any type of stimulus.
So I'm assuming you know how to access CWM and download mode but just in case there's some confusion, here's how I always access them:
CWM - hold power and volume +/- buttons until phone vibrates then keep holding all (do not let go) until CWM appears. (Others don't have to keep holding after the vibrate, but when I first flashed my phone it wouldn't boot into recovery unless I kept the buttons depressed until CWM actually appeared)
Download - (phone powered off already) hold volume +/- buttons (not power); plug in USB cable (still holding buttons); wait for vibrate (still holding buttons); download mode screen appears (release buttons only after this point)
If nothing else works, you can always try sending it back to Samsung/Tmobile to see if they'll replace it for you. If you can't get it to odin/download mode then chances are good that they won't be able to tell that it was rooted and thus would have no reason to void your warranty.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, raver's AOSP ICS ROM (the second one you flashed) doesn't have boot animation support so it's supposed to stay black on boot. Experimental ROMs especially may take a long time for first boot so you should always not touch it for at least 10 minutes before you try any kind of battery pull or powering off.
there are a lot of threads about people having problems when following instructions on galaxys2root.com

I'm Back In The Game!!! The weirdest thing happened. So I went to my friends house and put my battery in his s2 to see if it had any life and it was. I threw it back in my phone and for some reason it booted up to the ROM I flashed. ICS was beautiful on it but I immediately went back to my recovery rom lol. Lesson learned. Thanks guys for the help this was my first time posting a problem on this forum and I love how quick everybody is to help.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Can be a pretty scary experience. Remember: patience is your friend, especially the first time you boot to a new ROM. If you think the boot screwed up, the best way to ENSURE that it screws up is to power it off/pull battery. Always wait 10 minutes before touching it.
I'm running P.A.C-Man v22.0.1 on twrp .
I've had no issues until today I was charging my phone then unplugged it. A few minutes later I checked my phone and it wasn't on. I pressed the power button and got no response. I pulled the battery and got the samsung logo without pressing the power button then it went to the PACman boot animation for about 1 second and turned off. I pulled the battery again and now it will show me the samsung logo then the bottom soft keys light up for not even a second and the phone turns off. I've tried getting into recovery and I'm only able to get to the TEAMWIN screen and the phone turns off . I tried switching batteries with my brothers phone and I get the same issue with his batttery. His phone boots up just fine with my battery. I'm not sure what could be causing this and I've tried searching and haven't found anything. Any help is appreciated:crying:
It sounds like you have the sticky power button issue. There are some ideas to try here:

So I recently installed CM 10.1.2 on my S3, and everything worked perfectly for a few days. Yesterday though, my phone started acting strangely (lag when turning screen off, registering phantom input, etc) and began rebooting every few minutes. At some point, it ran out of battery - and now I can no longer boot past the CM loading wheel screen.
I can't boot to recovery, and I don't think my phone is taking charge (from my computer or a wall outlet), and the farthest I can get is the loading wheel - sometimes it only gets as far as displaying the Samsung logo, or the Galaxy S3 screen with the android dude at the bottom.
I'm still covered under warranty, and would love to take it to the store for a replacement (I've had battery issues prior to this), but the fact that it can get to the CM loading wheel means that they might figure out that I've rooted and whatnot. But I can't get to recovery to flash a stock image, so...what can I do?

Your best shot is to either borrow someone's S3 battery or buy a battery pack. Use that to restore your phone back to stock (unroot) and then you can go to the store for replacement.

So turns out battery isn't the issue, I used a wall charger to get it to full charge. I can get it to the download mode confirmation screen, and can press volume up to confirm - but my phone reboots soon after that.
Recovery isn't really possible either, I can see the blue text in the upper right but my phone reboots after that as well.
My phone will often show an empty battery icon with a little refresh icon in the middle; does this indicate that it doesn't see the battery as charged (even though it is)?

Yeah I've been doing some research into the issue...
I've noticed that my phone automatically boots when I put the battery in, and that it'll do a quick vibrate when plugged in to a power source (outlet or computer) but won't turn on.
Apparently the phone isn't supposed to boot automatically when the battery is put in, and this could be the source of the random reboots - I think if I can get the rebooting under control, I'll be able to get into download mode and fix it all. But I'm not sure how to do that. Maybe the power button has gone bad, as it also doesn't usually respond when I try to use it to turn on.
If there is a problem with the power button, does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Mine does the exact same thing where I have to pull the battery and when I put it back in it automatically starts up and when I go to download or recovery it turns off before I can do anything
Sounds like power button issue.
I was having the same issues (random reboots, boot loop, powering on when battery put in, reboots in download mode and recovery)
This is not an easy fix. I ended up pulling the power button out and just setting my screen to time out after 15 seconds. Sucks but it works now.
If I ever need to turn off or hard reboot, I stick a pin in the power button hole and push down on the button.
Really turning me off on purchasing future Samsung phones

The power button is a common issue for these phones.
I was working out at the gym earlier today and when I wanted to take my phone out to check messages, my phone just shut off all of a sudden and wouldn't turn back on. I tried taking out the battery and putting it back in and it doesn't turn on when I push the power button. Also, sometimes, the phone would buzz and show the samsung logo and the cm logo, but then the screen would turn black again. I can't go into recovery mode either. When I got home and tried to charge it, it never charged either. It just did the same thing and buzzed and then show the samsung and cm logo and then the screen would go black again. At first, I was thinking it might have bricked, but seeing as how I never did any firmware changes to the phone, it shouldn't have bricked. I only opened the phone to check the time. Do you guys think it's the phones problem? Or is there any way to fix this?
Any help would be appreciated!

You are holding the power, vol up and home button at same time till the samsung logo flashes right?
Never mind guys. I took it to the repair shop and the guy said that it was my power button chip that was malfunctioning. He replaced the chip and it worked again. Thanks for the feedback though. Really appreciate it.
So, after flashing the latest firmware from sammobile for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 with Odin, I am now the not-so-proud owner of a what seems to be unresponsive - working - device.
Let me explain:
I just downloaded the latest firmware from sammobile.
I followed the instructions from sammobile, which basically says normal flash with Odin.
Plugged it in, started Odin, put the file in the right place and started the flash.
Odin does its thing, everything goes well, device is showing me a nice blue dotted bar which is filling up slowly, good.
And then suddenly Odin reports "FAILED" after is was done with /system.
Device has stopped working, blue bar not filling anymore.
I reset Odin with hope to restart the flash, with no result.
The device is not being recognized anymore by USB, and it's now stuck in the "odin mode" screen.
After seeking some advice on IRC I found that the only way to get the power off is to unplug the battery, which is harder that it sounds.
So after a good 30 minutes of carefully prying and making my way around the tablet I managed to get the cover of.
As I'm looking at the naked device and wondering "how the hell do i get this battery out". This is not like a normal phone or laptop or any kind.
I found a couple of little screws, 4 of them, around the battery so I unscrewed these and the battery came 'loose' but was held in place by 2 flat cables which I couldn't remove.
Put them back in, and all of a sudden my tablet's sceen was 'off', but I'm not sure it's really powered off because the powerbutton has no response.
I'm stuck and it the thought of just binning the tablet is frustrating me.
Anybody got any ideas of what this might be and how to fix it?
[edit]
I found out it wasn't powered off, it was just the screen. I could feel the CPU was still emitting heat.
So I unplugged the battery, let it cool down for a couple of minutes, plugged it back in, and now there is nothing.
No screen, no usb recognition, no power.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
You didnt need to take out the battery. Your should have exit download mode by doing power, home, vol down buttons for 30 seconds and it should reboot and you could of tryed again. If that didnt work you could have let it drain. Im not sure about helping with the battery part as i never opened it.
easy fix - check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50412284&postcount=8
no need for draining the battery. tested and it works. happens once to me, use above method and problem solved.
can use my modded version attached, but, please be aware, it's ONLY FOR RESETTING THE STUCK DOWNLOAD MODE !

I tried that, but didn't work. The tablet was/is unresponsive. Draining wasn't an option, battery was just fully charged.

Thanks for this! Am going to try this once my screen works again.
At this point it goes 'on' but the screen doesn't, and there is still no USB recognition so I guess I got a nice expensive paperweight
