I've got a t999 (not LTE) with UVDMD5 build running 4.1.2. I have been trying all evening to root for the first time, but I just can't seem to get it. I first went with High On Android's method and all went smoothly until I tried to open the .zip file in ClockworkModRecovery - phone just goes into plain old Android recovery mode.
I thought downloading mskip's Unified Toolkit would solve all my life's problems, but 7.0 doesn't appear to support my particular model and the comments about how to get version 7.5 may as well be in German for all I understand. I've searched all over the forums and found similar issues, but the ones I've seen with replies were equally difficult to understand. I'm still pretty nooby here.
I don't care about resetting the counter - I don't have any kind of warranty to deal with. Has someone rooted a t999 running 4.1.2 who can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong in plain English?
Download and flash the MD5 firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687 and flash it with Odin

I have had nothing but issues trying to use this software to update the firmware on my ATT S3. I'm new to Android (From Apple) and I'm still a noob but I have rooted and I have been trying all kinds of different ROMS. I cannot update my phone because I am getting the dreaded "Communication failed" error that more than a few people are getting.
One fix is to install latest update through Kies - but I can't seem to accomplish that. Am I able to update my firmware using Odin? I really haven't figured out much about Odin, I only rooted my phone with it once and that was easy and I din't learn a lot about Odin.
Can I use Odin to update firmware? If so how do I go about getting firmware file and whats the quick of it?
Thanks! :good:

What firmware are you trying to update to? Once your phone is rooted and your "trying all kinds of different ROMS" I question your need for Odin. Unless your trying to go back to a bone stock ROM I'd think that you would want to use whatever custom recovery that you've installed (CWM or TWRP) to install a ROM. I'm not going to link to it but I can guarantee that if you search for it here or on Google you'll find several guides to Odin.

Well, here's the thing. ATT has pushed out updates and I'm not getting them. I know some updates improve things - like call quality etc. Since I am not getting these I'm worried that I am missing out. I have uninstalled EVERY SINGLE ROM I have tried because of one issue: everyone I talk to on my phone hears an echo of their voice, it's so bad they tell me they have to hang up. It only does this on custom ROMs. So, I would like to be able to get these updates...not sure if I am making sense or not. Since Kies is such an incredibly horrible piece of software, I was hoping there was another way I could update my phone?????
Got ya, you should be able to use Odin to install the stock ROM. I think it's Sam Mobile? that you can register at and get the latest stock firmware. Again, search for the best way but it's doable.
I have a galaxy s3 from sprint which I rooted many months ago and is currently running android 4.04, It is constantly asking me to update however every time I do it always fails. I've looked around the forums and from what I learned I believe that the only way to update is to unroot and update or to install a rom with jelly bean. I experimented with a few roms including CM10, AOKP and liquid smooth but all of these had problems with sending text messages where long messages would not send or even short messages were split into multiple messages. So unless anyone knows a fix to this I prefer to stick to the stock rom for now at least.
That being said I would like to update my phone to jelly bean. Does anyone know a way for me to do this? If unrooting is the only way does anyone know how I can unroot my phone? All of the post I've ran into are either old(don't trust really old post as methods tend to change as time pases) or don't give enough information aside from "install original firmware". If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated. I have a mac computer so any methods that could be used with a mac would make things easier. Otherwise I could always run windows with bootcamp so not a big problem.
If it helps I rooted my phone using Odin and currently have CWM, its a sprint galaxy s3 running 4.04
Liquid smooth doesn't have that problem anymore

In order to OTA update the phone you need to be on a stock rom with all the stock apps installed and have a the stock recovery installed. (not CWM).
You could try to just reflash the stock recovery (which is what I did.) You could also just flash the current stock rom in Odin, which may or may not cause you to lose data. Dig around for all the roms and the stock recovery in the development forum.
Two things:
1. Please search. This has been asked (insert large number here) times
2. Head over to freezas thread and flash the MB1 firmware update. Then find a rom that is updated to either MA4 and up (including MB1) and flash it. I would recommended The Peoples ROM or MOAR (Mother of All Roms) if you wanna stay on a nice stock rooted rom
But thats it and you're done. Fully updated to JB

You don't even need to flash all the firmware, could just flash a rooted deodexed or odexed mb1 rom and modem if you like, but it's not necessary.

I like to break stuff!
Hello everyone, I decided to finally write for directions, because the more I read, the more confused I get.
I apologize in advance if I am in a wrong thread.
Although I spent already hundreds of hours of reading about rooting, flashing etc it is hard to find simple, specific answers regarding my device, partially due to vast number of ROM builds for different countries. I downloaded mskip Toolkit in April 2012, to root my GN2 I found it, at the time to be easiest, most comprehensive tool to use, and although I did it like a blind peson in a dark room, it worked. So after almost 9 months of having stock ROM, TWRP recovery and unable to get OTA updates
I wanted to experience new and different ROMs. I would love to check out CM or Phoenix ROM.
Firstly, I wanted to get stock ROM for my N7100, so I could flash it back to original, out of the box condition if I ever need to sell it. There are many good guides but these assume your county of residence as source of your ROM Here is my first obstacle which is my stock ROM?
I purchased my international GN2 on newegg.com and there are no ROMs for United States other than
for specific US carrier. I use Straight Talk, which runs on ATT network.
Then comparing (via *#1234#) my:
AP:N7100UBDMA3,
CP:N7100UBDMA1
CSC:N7100UUBDMA2
found somewhere that these are identical with 4.1.2 Argentinian ARO ROMs.
Purchased Triangle Away, getting ready for stock flash, but Triangle Away says "Status unknown", ODIN mode however reports 2 flashes. Why? Does it have to do with how phone was rooted? Using Toolkit?
Now Toolkit reports under "Device information
"country code: TTT" which is Trinidad and Tobago
Now I am completely confused.
Therefore I have many questions. Can I flash my N7100 with, let's say, US ATT SCH-l317 stock ROM
If not, which is correct stock ROM for above build numbers? When looking for a ROM which number is
most important one, to compare with? Baseband? Build number on the bottom of "About device page?
If I don't find exact builds, which one I should use the (closest one by build number, frequency).
Can i flush the most popular (or most developed) ROMs from let's say India, UK, or Poland? I am
completely lost. Thank you for any suggestions.
First try to use Kies to see what update it suggests, then take a look at http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/.
Compare and avoid an update which contains Knox, try to find a Knox-free stock rom here on XDA or even using Google.
Good Luck!
Edit: "Status unknown" is the normal message you get from triangle away, as far as I've experienced.

Thank you! Awesome advice! Indeed Kies suggested TTT ROM, (which is Trinidad and Tobago, how weird is that).
So it seems that what should care about is last three characters of PDA ROM version, right?
I read about Knox just to know enough to avoid it. Thanks.
So now I am downloading 4.1.2 stock version of my ROM, after that Triangle away.... ODIN.... Reboot in download mode.... flash.... and I should have out-of-the-box phone, right?
Now, what about when I want to use Phoenix ROM or any other ROM for that matter, that was build on whatever ( for example XXUDMJ1 stock ROM from Israel let's say) can I use that? I doubt that I can find custom ROM based on my TTT stock. What then?
Various online tutorials, guides or Youtube videos, don't even mention checking original ROM. It just say.... download from "here" and flash.
What's that about?
I am not very much familiar with all intricacies of Android system but i have played around rooting and putting customer firmwares on few devices.
I have AT&T Galaxy S3 with following detals:
Baseband: I747UCUEMJB
Version: 4.3
I had the device rooted in the past but recently un-rooted it and reset the flash counter as well and did factory reset. Did all that since i wanted to use ISIS and couldn't make it work on a rooted S3. Seems it used to work before till they updated ISIS app to patch it.
Now AT&T got 4.4 update and my phone detects it, downloads it but while installing fails at 32%. I have seen many threads where people faced similar issues due to their phones being rooted. Seems something on my phone didn't reset to default.
I found one post which mentions that i can download UCUEMJB_to_UCUFNE4_Firmware_update.zip and load it to phone using TWRP. As i understand, this will update the baseband but android version still remains at 4.3 (?). Is that the path i should be looking for or i am shooting in wrong direction? I want to stay on default firmware since i like to use ISIS till they keep running those cashback promos
Would appreciate some feedback.
Download MJB firmware (thread in General) and flash with Odin. You can stop there or try the ota again.

Thanks for the reply.
Just to confirm so that i don't mess up, i will apply the following(is modem same as firmware?) and then try OTA.
I747UCUEMJB: modem_CWM_I747UCUEMJB.zip
No. The modem is only one part of the firmware. Firmware includes bootloaders, kernel, system, modem and more.
Hi, i bought a Galaxy Tab 3 7" Disney Edition but i don't care about kids stuffs, is it possible to flash it with latest T210 (ITV) firmware 4.4.2 with Odin?
My model is T2105 (ITV) and is still at 4.1.2
Thanks
It might work. Flash a custom (TWRP) recovery to backup the device first, then give it a try. Only problem is, anything could brick the device since there seems to be little to no info.
Some ideas:
Soe ifo on the recovery:
from http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3/general/root-sm-t210-r-using-heimdall-t2936061
I used the Pit mapping for the T210. The recovery partition is "mmcblk0p10." I checked the partition info on my T210R using Partition Table by Lakshman. The T210R also has its Recovery partition on "mmcblk0p10," so I expect it to work no problem. And TWRP Odin flashables tend to be compatible with several 7.0 variants.

There do seem to be Odin flashables for the 4.1 software, which should be able to recover the device, but I would obtain one of those first.
If you proceed, please keep us updated so that other users out there can find this information

You can try The Nolekat Rom. It is fest Best Customrom for our Tab.
Sooooo.....
Did it work? Im curious as I got the T2105 tab for my kid and the darn thing is really slow for running Spider- Man Unlimited and some other apps
I want to put Cyanogenmod on it or some other rom with less crap
Ive been after the answer to this as well. I have the 2105 myself, and have TWRP installed and root, but not one single custom rom has worked. They just bootloop. Then you have to ODIN the stock rom. I have the original rom from sammobile, but they only have the factory 4.1.2 roms. Im wondering if a stock rom from the 210r or another Tab3 wifi rom would work.
It seems almost every tab3 from around the globe has been updated to 4.4.2 except this one...ive been checking sammobile everyday, but still no update for the 2105...

Your Bootloop prob is like the same as we have on The other device.
Flash a recovery with The Kitkat KK extension.
Well, actually its not a bootloop...it just reboots to recovery. Ill give a KK recovery a shot. any suggestions on which one would be the best? Or the recovery most likely to work? CWM or TWRP? Anything to get this off JB and onto KitKat...lol.. Apprecitae your help!

Yes, thats bootloop into recovery.
I prefere CWM or PhilzTouch on all my device.
Right on. Ill give those recoveries a shot. I have used CWM in the past (HTC Aria), but ive been using TWRP since i got the Galaxy Nexus. Ill give them both a try and report back in a few days... My internet connection sucks ass, so it takes hours to download a rom...

Its amazing that everyone is posting when they have question but no one cares to post their findings. I (also an owner of Galaxy Tab3 Kids T2105 bought in Australia) was fed up with the old and slow firmware. So, I decided to go ahead and flash a new firmware (T210XXBNI1 4.4.2 UK upgrade for SM-T210). First I tried to upgrade with Odin 3.9 but the process would fail after "Nand Write Start". Then I tried it with Odin ver. 3.07 and the process went smoothly and now I am a proud owner of Samsung Galaxy Tab3 with 4.4.2 Kitkat. It does feel a little bit swifter than the Jellybean. Anyways, so far so good. Will post if encountered any problem !

thanks for report thethakuri... i tried to do this too, but for me it doesnt work ... after i installed the 4.4.2, i had a black screen on boot and my tablet dont charge offline... so, i turned to 4.1.2... can you give me any sugesttion?
Update from me: Just upgraded my US SM-T2105 Kids tablet to the UK KK version as well (T210XXBOA3_T210BTUBOA2_Home.tar.md5). Did not work with Odin 3.11 but worked with 3.07 as mentioned above.
The Tab3 Kids is so far holding up very well with the 4.4.2 Firmware. Much more responsive.
Only issue I have is that it switches on when charging and the screen is not very responsive afterwards. A reboot fixes that.
I came across a post somewhere that there is a new bootloader required to fix that but I can't find the post anymore . If someone has that link please post it here. Thanks !

Did you ever find a fix for the screen issue? I'm going to give this a shot this weekend my daughter really wants pokemon go on her tablet!
Unfortunately I could not find it anymore.
Using ours now just with the new firmware and make it a conscious effort to switch it off after charging it. So far works fine.
