[Q] Unable to locate/choose correct stock ROM. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, I decided to finally write for directions, because the more I read, the more confused I get.
I apologize in advance if I am in a wrong thread.
Although I spent already hundreds of hours of reading about rooting, flashing etc it is hard to find simple, specific answers regarding my device, partially due to vast number of ROM builds for different countries. I downloaded mskip Toolkit in April 2012, to root my GN2 I found it, at the time to be easiest, most comprehensive tool to use, and although I did it like a blind peson in a dark room, it worked. So after almost 9 months of having stock ROM, TWRP recovery and unable to get OTA updates
I wanted to experience new and different ROMs. I would love to check out CM or Phoenix ROM.
Firstly, I wanted to get stock ROM for my N7100, so I could flash it back to original, out of the box condition if I ever need to sell it. There are many good guides but these assume your county of residence as source of your ROM Here is my first obstacle which is my stock ROM?
I purchased my international GN2 on newegg.com and there are no ROMs for United States other than
for specific US carrier. I use Straight Talk, which runs on ATT network.
Then comparing (via *#1234#) my:
AP:N7100UBDMA3,
CP:N7100UBDMA1
CSC:N7100UUBDMA2
found somewhere that these are identical with 4.1.2 Argentinian ARO ROMs.
Purchased Triangle Away, getting ready for stock flash, but Triangle Away says "Status unknown", ODIN mode however reports 2 flashes. Why? Does it have to do with how phone was rooted? Using Toolkit?
Now Toolkit reports under "Device information
"country code: TTT" which is Trinidad and Tobago
Now I am completely confused.
Therefore I have many questions. Can I flash my N7100 with, let's say, US ATT SCH-l317 stock ROM
If not, which is correct stock ROM for above build numbers? When looking for a ROM which number is
most important one, to compare with? Baseband? Build number on the bottom of "About device page?
If I don't find exact builds, which one I should use the (closest one by build number, frequency).
Can i flush the most popular (or most developed) ROMs from let's say India, UK, or Poland? I am
completely lost. Thank you for any suggestions.

First try to use Kies to see what update it suggests, then take a look at http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/.
Compare and avoid an update which contains Knox, try to find a Knox-free stock rom here on XDA or even using Google.
Good Luck!
Edit: "Status unknown" is the normal message you get from triangle away, as far as I've experienced.

Thank you! Awesome advice! Indeed Kies suggested TTT ROM, (which is Trinidad and Tobago, how weird is that).
So it seems that what should care about is last three characters of PDA ROM version, right?
I read about Knox just to know enough to avoid it. Thanks.
So now I am downloading 4.1.2 stock version of my ROM, after that Triangle away.... ODIN.... Reboot in download mode.... flash.... and I should have out-of-the-box phone, right?
Now, what about when I want to use Phoenix ROM or any other ROM for that matter, that was build on whatever ( for example XXUDMJ1 stock ROM from Israel let's say) can I use that? I doubt that I can find custom ROM based on my TTT stock. What then?
Various online tutorials, guides or Youtube videos, don't even mention checking original ROM. It just say.... download from "here" and flash.
What's that about?

[Q] Question about warranty and custom ROM

So, i'm tempted to flash Omega or Android HD ROM on my Note 2, but i'm worried about a few things...
I already have the phone rooted, and from what i've understood so far, i can use triangle away to make it look like it was never touched, in case i need to go to warranty (please correct me if what i've said is wrong).
Will i be able to make it look like it's never been flashed/tampered with, if i flash a custom ROM and i have to go to warranty?
Let's say i DO flash a custom ROM like Omega or Android HD and a button isn't working anymore, and it's surely a hardware problem, naturally, i'll have to go to warranty to get it fixed. In this situation, will i be able to flash a stock ROM and fool everyone that it's never been flashed/rooted? And if yes, how? I'd appreciate a description of the whole process.
Hope i've been able to explain myself well enough to get an answer.
Thanks in advance!
You would need to find the stock firmware for your device and then flash it using odin
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
This is my device's info:
Model number: GT-N7100
Baseband version: N7100BUALI8
Build number: JRO003C.N7100XXALIJ
Is there any way to find out where to get my stock ROM?
Depends what country you from and whether the phone in it's original state was branded to a specific carrier or not.
If you know that then go to www.samfirmware.com and search for your stock firmware
eg: if you're from UK, and your carrier is Vodafone, then you would choose, "United Kingdom (Vodafone)" firmware. etc..
After you download your firmware, then flash with odin, and make sure that the flash counter is "0" using triangle away, and that's it. The process of reflashing a stock firmware to your phone should unroot you automatically if you are rooted.
Yes, my phone was branded and locked to Vodafone, Romania, but i've used GalaxSim to unlock it (YAY!).
I've searched SamFirmware for the ROM that i should have, but there's only one for Romania ( http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=7110 )
I don't know if this is the one that came with my phone, but i guess it should be ok, right?
Later edit: OMFG, the ROM is 1.3 GB
Even later edit: Damn, HotFile is so slow T_T''

[Q] Can I flash a stock firmware for a different region other than my original stock

First, thank you guys. Just bought a note 8 WiFi version GT-5110. It is a good device, loved it. I've been researching and reading all over the posts about rooting, install custom rom, firmware and etc... I guess the first thing to do is to root my note 8. So, before I root my device I want to know for sure I can return back to original unmodified stock. I found that I can use ODIN to flush official firmware. However, I checked samMobile for the firmware for my country which is Canada. But I couldn't find. I used toolkit to check my note 8 firmware. It is N5110XXBMC9 and the region is XAC. It is the oldest. Hate it, we are so close to the us but always treated differently, and very thing is more expensive.
Question:
1 Can I just flash US region firmware? Since I have the WiFi, it has nothing to do with the phone and carrier. Or, can someone tried to flush a different region firmware tell me what is the outcome.
2 If I flash an US firmware, will I still able to claim warranty in Canada(just in case).
3 Will Flushing firmware with ODIN increase flush count, even I flush with official stock?
4 Last question, after rooting, will note 8 achieve floating multiwindow like note 10. Or, we are still limited to have to window side by side, but with rooting, we can put more apps to choose.
I know you guys are busy, if anyone can help me or point a useful post for me I would be really appreciated.

I would also like to know the answer to this question as I have a New Zealand international model but the rom is old. Can I flash the UK version which is the most uptodate. (I have the wifi version).
Thanks
I decided to give it a try myself.
I flashed the latest BTU N5110XXBMF2 which worked a treat. I checked and this is what is displayed
Custom Binary Download = No
Current Binary = Samsung Official
System Status = Official
So it worked fine for me.

Hello. I am also having this issue, with a GT-N5110 from canada. May I ask the steps in which you flashed the firmware? Did you do it via Odin?

I just downloaded the firmware and used Odin. It didn't wipe the sdcard it just updated the apps. Its worked well ever since.
I have since updated to N5110XXCMK1 using the same method.
Regards
Colin
Thanks. I used the same method to flash 4.2.2 on my device. I am also now on xxcmk1.

flash counter
Hi guys! I was looking to know about this. And I got a few question:
1. I want to make sure about the flash counter. If I change to XXCMK1 my rom, the flash counter goes to 1, or would be like the note 8.0 came with that stock room (nothing change in the counter)?
2. It is a little off of the main question but I will ask anyway: have you tried to add icloud email to the native email manager in the XXCMK1 rom? (Asking just in case you did it, since I read that rom is the one that doesnt have problem to set up in the native email manager?
Thank you guys (literally). I will appreciate your answers.

1. My flash counter did not change when I flashed 4.2.2 using Odin.
But it did when I used auto cf root afterwards to root the phone.
2. Nope I haven't tried.

I had an issue where I (think) I soft-bricked my device, as I could not get it to boot up, it would get stuck on the "samsung" logo and then display a black screen and go no further. My device is Canadian as well, and was running stock Canadian firmware, but I had rooted it before hand and was attempting to flash firmware from another country.
Well, I ended up downloading the US firmware for 4.2.2 from another thread here on XDA and flashed that in a last attempt to fix it, and it worked! But now I'm running US firmware. Since the KitKat update is now available in Canada, I'm downloading that as we speak and am going to flash it when it's done.

Update: flashing went great, just had to remove the .md5 at the end of the ROM file. Everything seems to be in order.

[Q] SGH-i747M rom on SGH-i747

Hey guys.. I'm new to this forum and to flashing ROMs and all that so I need your help..
I used the search option and didn't find a clear answer to this..
I have bought about a month ago an at&t SGS3 SGH-i747 and I am not very happy with the current OS (android 4.1.1 at&t stock ROM) and I want to upgrade it to 4.1.2. After searching google a bit i found out that there IS an official 4.1.2 android from at&t for my device and wherever I go they say to go to settings, about device, software update and update my phone from there but it says that there is no update.
I have searched for a ROM on sammobile and only found a 4.0.4 ROM for my phone.
However, I found out that there is a 4.1.2 ROM for SGS3 SGH-i747M, and some people say that their ROMs will work on my device and some say they won't.
Can someone tell me, if I install a Rogers (for example) i747M ROM on my device will it work without problem? I don't want to stay with the at&t ROM because it has too many limitations on them.
I prefer not to install custom ROMs because they are all a bit unstable..
Sorry if I have bad English, tried my best..
First off an (att) rom will work with a (rogers) phone. I'm using one right now.
Secondly, if you do manage to install a (rogers) rom on your s3 it will probably be missing apn settings and you'll have rogers apps.
Lastly, through my experience with custom roms, I have found that they are far more stable then stock, if you're looking for a good custom touchwiz rom. Look at hyperdrive

What you are describing on Sammobile are the stock firmwares that are flashed through a program called Odin. If you tried flashing a Rogers image, you could potentially brick your phone, or as the user above said, there would be a lot of issues since that is not the firmware for AT&T. Are you rooted? If you are, that is what is causing the upgrade issue, since you have to be 100% stock.

Thanks for your answer. Well, if you say that custom roms are more stable than stock, I won't argue. Just some friends told me otherwise.
I'll try to find a good rom that suits me.
Btw, I don't care if ill have Rogers apps or AT&T apps, they are both useless to me. I just don't want to brick my phone.

I didn't flash a Rogers rom because I couldn't find a clear answer that says that it will not brick my phone. I just seen some people ask about it and didn't get an answer either. I have tried to unroot and flash a stock rom from "samsung-updates.com", a 4.1.1. Its the same as the one that I already had. Still, no update available.

If you flash a ODIN package for rogers on an AT&T phone you may brick it due to bootloader and modem
if you flash a custom zip based on an AT&T rom from XDA you won't brick since they don't contain bootloader or a modem
hope this helps

Confused as to how to install CWM on Rogers Note 2

Firstly, I am not new to flashing or searching on XDA! I have installed custom roms/recoveries on at least 10 different android devices and have been a member here for some time. I'd like to think that I have helped more people out than I've asked for help....
but my new (to me) Note 2 has me stumped!!!
I have recently traded in my much loved Note 1 (running a rock solid AOKP KIT KAT rom) for a SGHi1317m (I believe originally from Rogers). It was unlocked and I am able to get full LTE service from my carrier (Bell Mobility) after setting the APN.
I originally upgraded in order to get greater functionality out of my Gear 1 smartwatch (better battery life with BT 4.0, among other benefits)
24 hours in and I am dieing to get back to some form of KitKat! The question is How?
I have searched this forum and have come away with the impression that because of the different variations on this phone, Knox, differing bootloaders with differing recoveries, there are many ways to brick this phone!!
I have already found out that one cannot easily update the recovery via the simple solutions offered on the playstore for CWM or TWRP. I am familiar with ODIN and have multiple versions of it running on different laptops in my house ready to try. The question is which package will give me a recovery that will allow me to flash roms and persist through a reboot?
According to my phone info, I am on bootloader i317MVLUCMK5 ( a version I have not seen in any of the tutorials) My KNOX counter reads 0x0 but when I try to search for updates ( I am presently on stock android 4.3 rogers), it says that I will not receive any as my phone has been modified (i suspect it can tell that the phone is unlocked as I am using a Bell sim in a Rogers phone).
As I have no warranty, and don't really care if my Knox counter is tripped, I am hoping someone can help me get started in flashing this phone.
i think if you look in the cwm thread you'll find instructions. mostly everything i see is a soft brick meaning it just doesnt boot into rom. i suggest cwm as it seems more maintained than twrp, and twrp gave me issues.
download a stock modem because the international roms will overwrite your modem and you'll get no signal bars and need to reflash after a upgrade. check out the n7100 form, sub forum n7105 and look for roms there. this forum is really dead. i'm running international rom nc3 with my at&t mk6 modem. mj5 bootloader because its 4.3 but unlocked from downgrading.
i too didn't care about knox or warranty, but most of the good stock roms have it stripped. i can't find anything as good as 4.3 tw stock roms and the custom roms i've tried seem to have fc's and whatnot.
i also used devil kernel and got tons of fc's so i'm using the stock kernel for now. might try agni. but back on topic your best bet is to try and find cwm odin package for philz touch. really once you get past all the noobs here you find it works just like any other samsung. you can flash a recovery via odin, cf auto root, and you're done.

Flash new ROM from Dinosaur Lollipop 5.0.2. Rooted with TWRP.

So...
I got the tablet coming up on a year ago, and I rooted and installed TWRP immediately.
I'm currently running a stock ROM, and would like to continue to run stock based roms, but I've had issues with the custom kernel I'm running. The skyhigh thread is meager when it comes to details, but it also includes a few cryptic warnings about base and source and boot loader. Because I have no idea which one I'm running, or what to flash in TWRP, I'm in a terrible spot.
Searches, P.M.s and thread posts haven't gotten me anywhere.
Even if I could use Odin, the stock firmware thread, and the TW-Based ROM threads don't include the requirements, how you can test to see if you meet them, and if you don't, how you'd go about letting the requirements for base, etc.
Because of the introduction of threads like the stock firmware thread early on, root and odin methods used obscure FW, and now when selecting a few to download you have to choose between FW from France....from no country at all, or from the made up country of Us Cellular. So again, even if I wanted to broach the idea of Odin back to some semblance of stock, I couldn't.
But I ****desperately need a reflash/wipe/update***
Id like to run ironrom and kernel....
So how would I get there....from here? And preferably with TWRP?
Rooted 5.0.2 with TWRP and a really really old version of sky high.
