How to unlock bootloader? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hey guys, I need some help. How can I unlock the bootloader on the N3 and root it? This is my first time to have a locked phone. Altough it supports different SIM cards, the bootloader is locked. And yeah - should I wait until KitKat update comes out or should I root it now? Thanks in advance!

Great thing about T-Mobile is bootloaders are not locked. Just root first from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423 and install your custom recovery afterwards.

The T-Mobile Note 3 does not have a locked bootloader, simply use Odin to flash a custom recovery and/or root the stock OS. It is carrier locked but not bootloader locked. Only the AT&T and Verizon variants are locked (and I think Verizon has a "developer" unlocked variant).

Thanks for that, but when I search for ROMs should I download roms for the international version of Note3 or Tmobile? Or is there any difference since bootloader is unlocked? And how can I root without tripping KNOX?

This was answered in your other post. You gonna need to read and research. Knowledge is your friend. The devs here put in the first line what phones the rom will work for. If it a T-Mobile phone then you in right area.

Unlock and custom

If i unlock my phone with serial code generated from imei can i install custom roms for my phone?
No.. You need to root your phone first. Read through the different threads before attempting anything so you don't ruin your phone. I would start with the FAQ.

if i root it i can install roms? Will the lock come back?
Sim unlocking is separate from rooting. It's got nothing to do with it.However, unlocking the boot loader does. Many devices require you to unlock your bootloader to install custom firmware after rooting.

Rooting and installing custom ROMs won't affect your sim unlock.

Yes. I just wanted to give a better understanding between the 2.

you obviously have no idea what you're saying/doing. i don't recommend you root or unlock your device, at least until you read and understand what you're doing. jumping in headfirst so fast is not a good idea. nobody wants to possibly end up with such an expensive paperweight.

Some root and unlock question before attmept

This phone is on latest version 4.4.2 kit kat.
I've seen the root videos on YouTube and haven't seen any of them unlock the bootloader. Is that not necessary?
Secondly if I mess up in the root process and soft brick it, what software can I use to restore back to normal. Is there one made by LG? Like apples "iTunes" and Samsung "Odin"
I'm wanting to root to unlock phone to use with tmobile.

Use ioroot25 for root.
Use auto-rec for TWRP. Then follow unlock methods to use gsm carriers. Just know you will only get hspa. As the phone has different radios

OK thanks. Auto rec is to get it out of a bricked state? Yes I am aware of no lte.
Also is this a factory unlock? Will I lose it if I need to do a restore to stock rom unrooted?

Auto-rec will install TWRP recovery. Unlock boot loader and give kernel that works with it.
With recovery you can backup and restore if something goes wrong.

This thread speaks about permanently unlocking Sim card. In which T-Mobile uses. Read up on it.

Your success in using the free unlock would appear to depend on which bootloader is installed on your phone.
If you have the MJB bootloader you are most likely out of luck. If you have the MJ2 bootloader it is probably possible. I reference this post found in one of the unlock threads:

Thanks, so it seems I am out of luck since my phone once had bricked and I unbricked with full mjb firmware... My modem and bootloader is mjb... No free unlock working with that.

@Najuto9tail, there may still be a bit of hope. I came across the link to this post today in a comment by DocHoliday77

Once updated to 4.3 (MJB), you cannot downgrade, even just the modem. The requirement for the free unlock is the 4.1.1 modem, and since it won't work, you can't do the unlock.
The only way I know of is by using an unlock code either from AT&T or one bought online. Sorry.

Yeah I thought that it would be like that. Thanks. I do not need to unlock it anyways, I solved the problem which wanted me to change carrier.

They have mentioned more than once that root access cannot be obtained on MM unless the bootloader was unlocked !
So, don't get hopes on something that cannot be done ?
