is there a way yet to get past the 4.4 tethering (no tethering plan) upsell yet? That's the one thing stopping me from going to 4.4

How are you getting undetected tether on 4.3? I'm using JediX2 and about 10 gigs in they blocked me.

you just use a user agent switcher.

I am on 4.3. I want to move to 4.4 since I don't need the Samsung features. but tethering doesn't work with using the user agent switcher. the up sell page pops up no matter what. I would use apps like pdanet etc, but they reduce the speed by so much

I have the T-Mobile Unlimited Nationwide 4G plan, not the tether plan. Is there a way to tether my S3 without having to root, and without risk of any T-Mobile charge?
Use PDANet.

Yes, a tether plan would be nice, but I'd like to tether with my current data plan, Unlimited Nationwide 4G.
There's a HUGE thread......

Unfortunately, FoxFi doesn't currently work with Windows 8 and PDANet is a paid app. I'm exploring other options.

Full disclosure: I'm using Windows 8 on a Mac.
* Windows 8 Professional x64
* Boot Camp 3.3
* MacBook Pro 2009
I'll update my Boot Camp drivers to 4.0 and see if FoxFi suddenly starts working.
That's not the point in the fine print when choosing the unlimited 4G plan it clearly says u can not tether! The network automatically cuts off tethering on that plan.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
I don't know, but I haven't had any luck with FoxFi and Win7 x64 either.
I know paid apps aren't as desirable, but I've found SVTP to work very well and $15 is far cheaper than any other option I've found for non-rooted users like myself.

You will need to provide more details if you want help.
What rom, version, tether method, plan, services (tmo buy up tethering) etc.
With the info you initially provided "turn on your tethering" is as valid for a reply as a completely technical explanation.

Looks like you are on the bone stock rom. That will not work for tethering.
Have you tried the process for replacing the apn settings then using an after market wifi tethering app? That will likely be your only chance.

I'm on the DARTHSTALKER S4 rom and i love it. Tethering works perfectly fine but when i use the mobile hotspot. I check my T Mobile account and it shows that I've been using the hotspot. Once I got to 400 MB T Mobile sent me a message to upgrade if i wanted to tether. Is there any way I can tether without being caught?

That means that you don't have a tethering plan. If you can tether w/o the tethering plan then you should be fine.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
i think alot of the plans come with Tethering (but limited to the amount of data you get before throttling). Only one of the new plans (unlimited data) didnt have tethering built in in my recollection.
in addition to the already mentioned. i read in other threads that you need to use the toggle from the pulldown menu to activate hotspot, otherwise you get the upgrade screen. personally ive always only used the toggle from the pulldown to activate my tether and never received the upgrade screen.

If you are on the unlimited plan, or any plan that does NOT have tethering included, you will be noticed. You have a grace data allotment of i believe 200MB then you are shut off. There are ways around it and Google will tell you those ways
Why is everyone so concerned....
Theres a well known root tether setup for all galaxys called "trevemod tether" with a tutorial in the general sectio for many phones also requires using hot spot shield vpn app .So tether plan or not , you can get away with tethering the data u pay for to any device...
It hides and blocks what u tether to, thus making tmo think your just using a whole lot of extra bandwidth on your device
ROOT is required.

Maybe it is just me, but does anyone else get irritated by people that want to steal bandwidth? Someone has to pay. Maybe people should pay for the features they desire.
Thanks

Absolutely... I'll make a reasonable effort to be reasonable... I called them and asked to pay for tethering to go with my unlimited data plan... so I can watch some netflix on my phone when I'm away on business. I figured an extra $30 would be fair. They don't offer anything like that... although... they charge $10/MB for roaming data in Canada, so... I won't die of guilt.
Besides, as I'm fond of saying... we can't all beat the system heh heh! :laugh::laugh::laugh: You're right... someone has to pay. Someone not smart enough to figure out how to get a discount. peace bro.
uhhh we already pay for the data service and the hardware and the os which has it built in. there's nothing to feel bad about. I've used 70gb data in a month with sprint and they didn't complain

I use the stock tether under my unlimited plan. Would only use it seldom though for my tablet or notebook.
Unlimited plan allows up to 2.5gb tethering a month which for that purpose is more than enough for me.

If your just getting that message on your phone that is just a setting for your own info, if you get an upsell screen on a tethered pc or your tethering stops working, then you will know they know lol. I tethered 100's of gigs in a month before they shut me down and I switched over to Foxfi and masked my usage.

So just to be clear, there's no wifi tether with the stock kernel? I'm trying to avoid tripping the counter for the time being.
Worked great. Thanks OP.
edit:Spoke too soon. Can get tethering started but it won't show up as an available network. What profile are you using? There isn't one for the N3.

well well, dummy me was about to do "de la vega" and just ended up following "qbking77" video to the T and tripped knox. Anyway, since that ship has sailed and there's nothing that could be done about it for now, what exactly does the tether app needs in order to work? I've been using TrevE Mod WiFi Tether for the longest on my GS3 stock rom/rooted. What's the difference with the Note 3?
So does installing this app work perfectly on a t-mobile note 3 on an AT&T network without AT&T catching you tethering without paying?

I've used the HotSpot on Cyanogen for 4.5 years, never got a single comment. Then again, I only used <1GB/mo on it, so I didn't abuse it.
