UNROOT sgh-t999v

i need to unroot my s3 for warranty purposes but i cannot find proper procedures for the the model sgh-t999v..
i have 2 questions,
1. can i just root a stock rom for sgh-t999 to my sgh-t999v?
2. anyone have the procedures to unroot my sgh-t999v

Flash a stock rooted Rom. T-Mobile one. That seems to be ok as long as you don't flash a T-Mobile radio.
Not sure if triangle away works on the Canadian version.
Maybe someone else has tried it.
All I had to do to return my last one was flash a stock rooted Rom.
I don't think they check the flash counter

Or you can download the actual fw for your device. You will have to register but its no big deal.

I can see you have a Videotron Galaxy S3. They don't check the flash counter. Let's just say I know this "by experience". As long as it's just rooted and you don't have any custom ROM, you should be fine. But indeed if you can at least hide the SU app it would be a good thing.
You could also perform a factory reset in CWM prior to going to the store, as they will make you do it anyways (and you actually don't want them to see the CWM screen)prior to any exchange. It's company policy.

It's still probably safer to just use Triangle Away to get rid of the flash counter

If your trying to go back to stock, just download the stock rom from sammobile, it has everything you need like stock recovery, and then just flash it via odin.

Yes it should be the full fw which includes radio, recovery and more.

I'll test it tonight, wouldn't look good to download a 700 mb file at work!

I tried a few firmwares, but for some reason they all said "unsupport dev_type" when trying to use odin to return to stock non root (from stock rooted) In the end, the easiest way to remove root was to just let Kies update my gs3 to Jelly Bean (sgh-t999v). Painless, no data loss, took about 30 minutes with the firmware download.

You will likely also want to triangle away. I won't link because it's extremely dangerous software that requires you to read up on the risks.
But that will reset your custom flashes assuming you have some on your counter you can check easily by going into download mode.

i recently lost my stock rom backup.. deleted it off clockworkmod touch by accident, so i only have the cm10.1 nightly i was running when i deleted it.. now i'm assuming i will lose root if i flash the stock firmware through odin? is there another way to get my stock rom back without losing root (and cyanogenmod rom backups)?

hey guys im having trouble with triangle away on my sgh-t999v with the baseband version: T999VVLUFNF1
after I used triangle away and I go into download mode it says:
current binary: Samsung Official
System status: official
qualcomm secureboot:enable
Warranty Bit:1
Bootloader AP SWAEV: 2
Although the current binary and the system status have changed the warranty bit is still at 1
Please help!

I guess im screwed for warranty..I thought it might be cuz I have a custom kernal installed that triangle away didnt work..but thanks anyway and sorry about posting in multiple threads, im kinda new to this

No problem, thats why i mention it, so you know for the future.
Tecnically, with the warranty bit tripped, the warranty is void. However, i have seen a lot of posts where people sent it in anyway and their warranty was still honored. Its not a guarantee, but there is hope it can be used if needed. The good thing though, is you most likely will never need to use it anyway!

i need to unroot my phone so i can return it to carphone warehouse as it keeps freezing, i have tried every other option to fix it but its still happening, i haven't flashed any other roms, just wanted to root it so i could use directory bind.

I also have installed TWRP Recovery so need to know how to remove that and go back to the stock recovery

I have just rung car phone warehouse to confirm if the warranty is void if you root a phone & they say yes, so really need to get this sorted so i can get it back for repair.

There are plenty of guides in xda regarding unrooting.
Download stock firmware from sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com for your device.
Use triangle away to reset counters.
Flash stock firmware and optionally factory reset.

Thanks, I take it that I use triangle away before unrooting? Also will doing this remove TWRP or do I have to do something else for that?

Can't use triangle away unless you're rooted. So do it before you flash stock. Never really used it much so won't know the details but aparently if you have custom kernels installed, the counter will stay at 1, so you might wanna switch to stock firmware, root it, triangle away, then use the full unroot option on your superuser app or alternatively just reflash stock firmware.

[Q] Phone won't boot in stock ROM after re-flash.

Ok so I have been using Wicked Sensations ROM for quite some time but I have to return my phone back to stock form as the USB port doesn't function correctly. Sprint sent me a replacement, but I have already moved over to Verizon and got a Note 3 (vastly superior phone btw).
I have to return the phone to stock, obviously, so I am attempting to do the process described in this thread.

I was able to flash the zip just fine and I get into stock recovery, wipe cache, then wipe data/restore, but then the phone sits at the SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 screen the Wicked Sensations ROM used to show on boot up. THe phone does nothing and will not launch into the OS.
I went into download mode and I see:
PRODUCT NAME: SPH-L710
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CUSTOM BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
I checked the version of the ROM before I attempted to go back to stock and it was at 4.1.3, so I would think KNOX shouldn't be an issue.
Please help I am desperate!

You need to find a stock tar and flash thru Odin. I'd go to youtube and look up qbking77 and how to unroot. I believe he has the links on there to the tars and stuff.

I have done a factory reset/recovery and it just sits at the screen I described in my OP.
I have searched high and low for the 4.1.3 update and so far that site you linked is the only place I've found it. However, I find it very suspicious that in order for me to sign up for a free account, I have to give them my credit card for "verification purposes".
Can anyone else help me?

I guess I'll keep bumping this until I hit 10 posts so I can submit it to the guy who make the ROM is used to go back to stock.

I'm not exactly sure what to tell you to do since your on stock recovery now and usb port doesn't work. But at least I can help you get your 10 posts in. You should still be able to pm with less than 10 posts though, unless they changed it.

[Q] Need help upgrading Android if possible?

I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 GT-N5110 wifi version using CF-Auto-Root. It is running Android 4.1.2 and now that the new tablets have come out ie; 8.4" tab, note 12.1 2014 edition etc., I don't think there's much hope for Samsung to update the OS as the device has been out for approx 14 months.
So anyway I rooted because I was low on memory and wanted to move some apps to ext SD card. However being on Android 4.1.2 I believe is the reason I still cannot do this. Any apps I have downloaded from the Play Store won't let me do this. I have read online that this feature was added in higher version of Android. From what I have read 4.3 is more stable than 4.2.2.
Wondering if there is any way I can get Android 4.3 on my device? I have read a bit about 'cyanogenMod's' and 'clockwork recovery' and don't really understand much about it yet.
Is there any way for me to re-root my device so that I will have Android 4.3? If so, would I have to un-root it first before rooting again?
This Note 8 tablet is the second device I rooted. The first was my S3 phone which was great after rooting as I just wanted to freeze the bloatware using Titanium Backup Pro which I did. Love it. But with the Note 8, rooting it has not achieved what I need so far. Hoping someone can help this almost newbie!!

There is no 4.3 for our device the only thing that is out there right now is the ported version of 4.3 made available to us by @ykkfive found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642647 there are some rumors that we might get Kit-Kat 4.4 so IMHO I think they are going to bypass 4.3 all together for our device, but again those are just rumors.
As far as custom recovery goes I would suggest you look into Philz recovery made available to us by @Phil3759 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860

Unroot and push 4.2.2, all your issues will be solved. I tried custom ROMs and found stock 4.2.2 works just fine, without Google Music Player update or just disable it all together.
PS, use saferoot.zip next time... it does not require flashing, and will not break your device from using OTA or Kies for firmware updates.
Now you need to run triangle away to clear your flash counter before removing root.

Two things:
One: the current version is 4.2.2. If you are running 4.1, there is an update available
Two: Samsung stated that there will be an update to KK for our devices.
There has never been a 4.3 ROM for our device, nor is there a compelling reason to have one. Plenty of KK ROMs in the development section though, although I really didn't care for any of the ones I tried. The only way I know to root this device is with CF Autoroot, and that is also what worked for me. I am not sure why it did not work for you. Once you root, you can do everything you've been able to do with your S3.

Yes use triangle away to reset counter then if you not already have done so download and install Odin 1.85
Next search the stock firmware for your model here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Get your Note into download mode ( Press and keep holding the Volume Down, Home and Power ) and connect it to your PC, Odin should "see" it the first slot under ID:slot should turn a different color if so you are in good shape, now put the Firmware you download from above mentioned site click PDA*button and select the downloaded .tar.md5 file, Important: In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are enabled. Also, ensure that the Re-partition checkbox is not enabled and hit start and let Odin do the rest and you should be up and running in no time

You can also check here http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N5110 look for XAR "cellular south" from what i read this is the "US-version" or look for BTU "United Kingdom" both should work as long as it is for GT-N5110 you should be good.
As far as Odin goes I have used 1.85 and that worked for me really well, if 3.07 worked for you then that is great and I would stick with that

So I've been doing a lot of searching and reading online before doing more to my Note 8 tablet. Cause if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have rooted it.
Anyway, I have seen a YouTube video of how you can unroot your phone (tablet - any Android) using Super SU. I assume I should use Triange Away first then do that. Then there are 3 files I need to remove: /system/bin/su + /system/xbin/su + /system/app/Superuser.apk.
Then of course remove any apps that I installed that required root access like Greenify, Busybox Free, Multiwindow Manager etc.
So if I do that it sounds like I will be back to a warrantied fully stock Note 8.
SO MY QUESTION THEN: How do I upgrade my firmware to 4.2.2 and if I do will I be voiding the 2 year warranty I have bearing in mind I will have unrooted my device?

If you download a stock Rom and flash it with Odin from one of those sites I mentioned before you will be on 4.2.2 it will flash a full stock firmware, and therefore you do not have to "upgrade" your firmware, so in short if you use triangle away and flash a stock Rom your Note will be like the day you first broke the seal and took it out of the box.
Now if you decide to get 4.1.2 then you could "update" to 4.2.2 by going to... settings...about device...software update...update and let the device look for an update and let it install.

Once reset, you will have a clean like new OS load. then you can push an OTA with settings, about device, check for updates. If you flashed

And also generally speaking, a factory reset does not always erase data stored on the internal or external sd card. This data must be manually erased by formatting the sd cards.

I rooted using CF-Auto-Root so that I could use apps like app2sd to free up some space on the internal 16gb (9 or 10 gb available to user) by moving apps to ext sd card. I did not add a mod or recovery or anything else after rooting. I am in Canada and there are no OTA updates available for the Note 8. So I am stuck at Android 4.1.2. After I rooted I realized that what I really need is at least Android 4.2.2 in order to move apps to ext SD card.
So, ideally, what I'd really like to do is unroot my device after using Triange Away, delete the 3 leftover files I mentioned earlier, and then delete any apps that require root. I have a warranty until February 2016 and I'd really like to be able to use it if necessary as I've heard that some have had battery issues after several months use. ANYWAY, is there any way I can stay unrooted, and yet upgrade the OS to 4.2.2 (which does not seem to be available here in Canadan-I guess we're stuck at 4.1.2. Even if 4.4.2 KitKat becomes available it will not help me with my low storage issue as KitKat stops apps from writing to ext SD Card. SO, I really prefer to have 4.2.2.
I am assuming all the instructions everyone has offered me above all have me remain rooted? Would I be able to remain rooted, upgrade to 4.2.2 then use Triangle Away and unroot?
Sorry for the long winded post, just wanted to clarify a few things.

The ONLY way for you to get 4.2.2 if you are not able to get an O.T.A..... is too USE triangle away as @gooberdude has stated AND donwload and Flash a 4.2.2 Stock Rom with Odin from one of the site that I gave you above, you will NOT be rooted after you flash the Stock Rom and you should not have any warranty issues at all.

I know a factory reset will not erase SD storage... As for that, really there should not be any thing there the system needs to operate. So what ever is on SD is not important to the OS.
As for getting root without flashing... Saferoot.zip. I have it installed and never had to use Triangle away. the nice thing about it, is that OTA and Kies will allow firmware updates. So, when updates become available, I'll be able to update.
If the OP would backup the important stuff he needs, and just do a factory reset, he should have a near factory untouched OS. This will allow OTA and Kies to function. Then all he needs to do is set USB debug in developer options and run saferoot.zip from a windows pc or laptop. As an option install rootcloak and substrate apps to truly hide root from apps that may detect it. Once done your rooted device will be just as upgradable as a factory device.

So have you tried flashing already? I have the same problem in Brazil, OTA / Kies never detects an update to 4.1.2... And I don't even rooted or anything that could impact the process.

@gooberdude I like your idea of using safe root but I don't understand what 'flashing' means nor what cloakroom is although I am guessing it's an app? Also what are substrate apps? @fmachado2906 as I said I don't know what flashing means.
Why does Samsung send some countries an update but not others? It's frustrating.

@Festivale26 flashing = downloading the firmware, opening Odin, setting up the firmware there and clicking on Start, not necessarily in this same order =)
By the way I'm tired of waiting, just downloading 4.2.2 and will try later.. I'll let you know how it went.

ok, i am running Lollipop 5.0.1 on SM-N910P, my question is if i go and get the current rooted .img and flash it using ODIN, would it trip my knox? sence it would be a stock Kernel. i have Tried KingoRoot, Pingpong root, Towelroot, Activeroot, SuperRoot, king-root. i am having such a hard time with this, only had the phone sence February and i dont want to trip knox.
or would it be possible to install a modified signature .ZIP of superuser and install it on normal recovery? thanks

Knox II will trip with any root method; none known that won't trip Knox for Note 4.
CF Auto Root will work in Odin for your OE1 build but you're limited to CM12 or Noterized Stable for custom ROMs; the others won't boot and full Odin stock tars won't work and there's no OE1 tar either. This is not a standard Sprint OTA; I don't think a OE1 tar will be released; it's long overdue.
If you're still interested, there's a request for stock OE1 recovery; it needs to be backed up and shared in order to help some other rooted OE1 users to take the next OTA to 5.1.1 whenever that releases. Without it, you would be waiting on a tar as well; stuck. To get the recovery backed up, root in Odin (root only), download Flashify in Google Play and backup the stock recovery before you upgrade to TWRP. Share that gem with others that need it. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=61456449
Still with me? Next you would need TWRP to backup your stock rooted OE1 for a backup if some flash or mod goes awry.
Finally, you could modify the stock Rom or flash Noterized and back it up as well. Keep all these recommended backups in a safe place like on your sdcard and duplicates on PC hard drive.
Read, be careful and ask the questions when you don't understand and you'll avoid the problems others have unexpectedly ran into or got stuck with. OE1 is basically a broken update that shouldn't have got pushed.

Yeah I only want root for the WiFi tether for root and sound boost, o well I will just stick with PDAnet. I was hoping there was something out there. But I am familiar with rooting very well, this is the 1st time that I am stumped and getting frustrated with it. But at least I asked though

It's still just as simple; just fewer choices with OE1. Some have said Bluetooth is broken in some applications of its purpose, IDK for sure.
I made the request for the stock recovery which would add an extra step if you chose to help.
If Knox trip is a concern, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Just to clarify...

I will help, but I don't know coding or any development things, yeah knox trip is a big concern, (when I had my s4 I rooted and tripped knox, the SIM card error poped up and sprint said sorry we can't do anything Warrinty is void, only had it 9 months).... yes Pease

Did it still have custom recovery or root or mods installed when warranty was denied? Backing up these may help, if needed. Can't guarantee that but I'd try another service facility if turned down initially. Just tell them we never had this conversation. Lately, I'm hearing Sprint is cracking down on root. I've had conversations with tech and admitted I root as a right. It's not illegal but warranty is becoming another subject.

Nope everytime I took it to a sprint store I flashed it back to complete stock and made sure that the newest version of Android was on it. He is like your knox sensor is tripped. Then I said. "I messed up my phone bad and had to flash stock firmware back on it (when I got the note 4, the chick who sold it to me used to work for Samsung and we where talking about rooting, and then I asked about the sensor if it can be reversed she said, once it is tripped not even samsung can fix it) and damn I did not know sprint was cracking down on root. That's crappy

CF Auto root Download SM-N910P; follow OP for instructions. (Use Odin)
Flashify use to backup stock recovery. (Share using link in post 2 above; thanks in advance.)
Use Flashify app to get TWRP recovery (select latest tar, not zip; Odin tar is optional and TWRP Manager is optional: ) You'll need to make a stock nandroid backup once you have custom recovery.
Noterized stable 2 follow OP for install instructions; it will flash over OE1. (If so inclined to stay with TouchWiz custom ROM) TWRP/nandroid backup again; label these backups and keep safe.

Consider the facts as we know them. Sprint shouldn't have released it; it's the ugly duckling of a long string of unlocked bootloaders for dancing phones on Sprint. There's a new OS lock intended to protect the owner of a lost phone from easily being written over to bypass a screen lock with a battery pull and Odin tar. But there should also be a user switch to momentary bypass this so Odin wouldn't have been totally broken to rightful owner. Maybe Samsung didn't intend for that to happen and Sprint didn't know better? But since as some have reported that Bluetooth is not fully functional; Sprint should have caught that. I'd say they both collectively hold the blame since it wasn't immediately addressed. I'd blame Sprint more for not halting the update, infecting more users. Hopefully, they're trying to fix that. Maybe they were but decided to work on 5.1.1 update instead?
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...; it must be a duck. It sounds odd to many here, from what I've read. But this is an ugly one. They both should own it, admit it, fix with an immediate update and move on. Until then, make the most of it; apparently, you can't expect a fix by taking it back to Sprint and some warranty replacements had the update pre-installed or quickly updated. Just plain wrong; a definition of insanity.
Maybe mostly opinionated but specifically, are there exceptions to the above for those that got OE1? I think there were some that said the only drawback is not being able to downgrade or recover a soft bricked phone. I could be wrong but just impressed by those OE1 users that have commented.
Edit: short answer is yes because users could update in KIES and that would make Samsung directly to blame for those users. Silence seems to indicate the bugs exist. And may signal a user need to wait for tars to be released which indicates Samsung deems the release as stable.
