I am trying to download AOKP's nightly aokp_maguro_kitkat_nightly_2014-01-04 but whenever I try to flash it the bot shows up with a error exclamation point and with the message at the bottom:
"set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
E: Error in/sdcard/0/aokp_maguro_kitkat_nightly_2014-01-04 .zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted"
I tried to flash older nightlys of the kitkat update but I get the same error. I have tried to wipe data/factory reset but that deosnt work. I can flash the AOKP mod I had before I tried this so there isn't a major problem if I can't update, but I would like to update to kitkat to improve my phone.
Anyone know why I keep getting this message and how to fix it?

I think you have to update your recovery. Older versions are not compatible with kitkat. I'm using Philz touch recovery, here's a link to his thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860
You'll find different files for different types of tuna (galaxy nexus), choose the correct one according to your actual model, install it, and you're hopefully ready to flash.
Hope I could help!

Yes, you need to update your recovery. I had same problem with an other kk ROM.
I suggest you to download last cwm from the official site and install that.
After that you can install the AOKP 4.4!

Alright ive been trying now for a few days to flash a new cm7 nightly. Ive tried a few things, diffrent versions of cwm an tried via rom manager (install rom from sd card), tried fake flash a recovery and flashing .img recovery but i always get the same error.
Something like "finding package, opening package, cant open /sdcard/"romname", installation aborted"
Does anyone know of an easy way to fix this?
I want a new rom or atleast a newer nightly

In CWM it'll be "toggle signature verification" I had this problem once and that was the solution!

I had the same issue a while ago, re-downloading the ROM zip worked for me
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
Yeah re-downloading the ROM was best fix for me, I remember it did it twice or three times before one actually worked.. alternatively you could always flash a different recovery (properly not fake flash) and see how that goes.
To make sure the download is complete, check the md5sum of the downloaded file in case you have one to compare. Otherwise, you could ask in the corresponding thread for it.
i flashed the newest cwm i found and still got the same problem, i've downloaded about 10 times but i always get the same error.
But i how do i find out the md5sum?
hmm.. try the recovery from my signature, flash it via fastboot.
Nothing worked so far.
Will try RA-Desire CM recovery when i get home ...
[Q] error installing CM 10.1: "E: error in emmc/cm-10.1-20130222-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip"
I am trying to install the cm-10.1-20130222 nightly build on my AT&T sgs3. I have clockwork recovery mod v 5.5 installed already and my device is rooted.
When ever I select the zip file and proceed to installation in the recovery mode I get the following error:
E: error in emmc/cm-10.1-20130222-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip
followed by:
status 7
installation aborted
Any idea what I am doing wrong? I tried yesterdays (21st Feb's) nightly build too with similar results.

1.update your recovery
I suggest using TWRP if you aren't already
2.bad download
Re download ROM and try to flash again
Those two are literally the only reasons why you're getting that error.
Search or use Google next time since this has been covered 100s of times

Jayrokk's suggestion to update your recovery is correct. Cm10 requires the latest cwm version. There are flashable cwm zip resources online or you can update it in rom manager
Lookout Security -and that is a first- mentions the NIGHTLY download to be an Exploit.
Same warning for yesterdays Nightly.

my bro got a rooted galaxy nexus with CWM recovery !
we want to install the OTA updates (Device status is normal so he can download the update) the problem is he gets Failed message when he tries to install updates because of CWM recovery! anyone knows how to get back to Stock recovery on nexus i'm noob in nexus fastboot stuff (CMD fastboot command)! also the proper stock recovery.img PLZ ... (i've attached a screen shot of the setting -> About device Screen).
he does not get the error message because of CWM.
he gets the error message because something isnt stock.
what is the assert error message when you try and install the update in CWM?

not in CWM the phone downloads the update pakage restarts and tries to install the updates and it fails there is not error message just fails!
If you want to set the phone to stock...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
If you want to just update to a newer/non-stock ROM, pick one and flash it.

I tried to install the ROM from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2631840
I'm running a ROM based off stock 4.3 for the Verizon HTC One, version 2.10.605.1 of the ROM on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319
My my baseband is 1.12.41.1112_2.
I'm using Clockworkmod Recovery version 6.0.4.7, I wiped the Dalvik, data, system, and cache then tried to install the zip I had on the phone twice and both times I got this error:
format () expects 5 args, got 4
E:Error in /data/media/0/NuSenseONE-KitKat-m7vzw-s55-stock_RC1.0_020614.zip.
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I also tried using adb sideload and got this:
* failed to write data 'protocol fault (no status)' *
I used adb sideload for the ROM I'm currently on and my device is recognized when I use adb devices to check. The sideload gets to 100% then gives that message.
I was hoping to post straight to that first thread but since I'm a new member I was hoping somebody could help out? I already searched the thread for the ROM I'm installing and didn't find anything that helps me. Thanks!

Could be wrong...but, it could be a bad download.

Try flashing twrp recovery.
As brholt6 mentioned, it sounds like a bad download. Redownload it and check the md5 before flashing again. If it still fails you should try what DavidHawk62 suggested and try TWRP. I've been using TWRP to flash since I got my One and have had zero problems. I'm currently on NuSense.

I redownloaded straight to my phone and tried it, redownloaded to my computer and tried adb again, but I still get the same error.
May just do what cmlusco and Crawshayi suggested and try TWRP.
Its not a bad download. Status 7 refers to an invalid argument in the zips update-script. It tells you the error is "format () expects 5 args, got 4". This means that in the update-script of the zip, it is calling to format a partition but was not given all the arguments needed to do so. It has to do with being on a newer recovery. You are probably going to find a lot of zips will fail with this error, while on your current recovery. The same issue happened when twrp was released. As i said flash twrp recovery and flash the zip thru it. Or try this one on your current recovery, where i modified it to have the correct arguments. DELETED

Just to provide all the information I have on hand, I have the
T-Mobile SGH-M919
android version 4.3
baseband version M919UVUEMK2
Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 6.0.4.7
My issue is that regardless of what rom I attempt to download i get the error below. Specifically, I've tried to download virginROM 2.3, which seems to be compatible with my device. From what I understand status 7 is in place to keep you from flashing an incompatible rom and so I'm not too sure how to proceed from here. Any and all help would be appreciated.

I just ran into this a few minutes ago using Philz Touch. The solution I found was under the install zip menu, you should see "Don't Allow Old update-binary. It should have a check-mark; simply untick that option and try again.

I'm using CWM and I don't see the option to check "donm't allow old update-binary." When I turn toggle signature verification off I get
E:footer is wrong
E: signature verification failed

and then get prompted to ask if i want to install an untrusted package. I attempted to download and apply the new 4.4.2 Google Edition by Davnh, haven't tried TWCP yet but i feel like it should still be doable via CWM.
