I want to mirror my screen to my TV using Chromecast. Is it possible on the Galaxy Nexus?
Chromecast does not mirror. You have a bunch of applications that can stream media to your TV via HDMI port. That's the basic idea and also it's beauty so you can turn off your phone or disconnect and the stream is still playing on your TV.

Mirroring from phone to TV is the old fashion way, just get an Android TV box or TV stick (as big as a USB thumb drive), plug right into your hdmi port on your TV, now you have a full Android on your TV with a real browser and all the Android apps from playstore, next download the XBMC app (free), now you just turn your tiny little TV Android box into a super MEDIA CENTER, where you can stream anything directly to your TV, from latest HD movies, TV series etc...and use your phone as the remote control for the Android box or wireless keyboard/mouse.
That's a nice idea, but then how do I watch videos and pictures stored in my phone?

I'm hoping to find a way to connect my Epic to a TV or video monitor, but so far I haven't found any options. It doesn't seem to support MHL or video from the headphone jack, so are there any other options to get video output from the Epic 4G?
If it helps, I'm running CM9 RC1 with its stock kernel.

No, There is no TV out capabilies on the Epic 4G. You only have Allshare to beam it to a Samsung allshare capable TV.

Nope. There is no TV out drivers to hdmi or rca. Host mode will allow you to connect input devices like usb stick memory, jump drives, stuff like that.

if you get one of the android mini computers that plug into the TV's USB port and turn it into a smart TV, would you then be able to use allshare to push video out of your Epic to the TV? Or even any TV that you plugged the android usb computer into?

It has to specifically support Samsung's Allshare which I think is proprietary on Samsung smart TV's atm
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
actually Allshare is just samsungs version of DLNA. you dont have to use allshare, there are other DLNA apps on the market, and they all connect together as long as you are on the same network. i have used my epic on a sharp aquos with allshare and it works just fine. i would imagine those mini androids with HDMI would work fine for this purpose.
edit: i just noticed he said he is on CM9. so he doesn't have Allshare anyways. but iMediaShare is one i use on cm9. the free version isn't as good as it used to be, you cant just take a picture and stream it to the TV like you could before, but the paid version lets you do that.

The most important thing for me is being able to mirror my screen on a TV, so I can play my emulators and other games on the TV, not just streaming video files.
Did some google research was trying to find an app where i can get whats streaming on my phone to the tv ..something similar along the lines of air play ......recommendations?

Did the mhl work for you? I ran a quick attempt and it wasn't seeing anything. MAYBE I needed to use a different cable and wall plug, I was using one that, it seems now, isn't supplying a lot of power.
Just wanting a confirmation that the mhl works.

You can do this in YouTube app. You need a TV with YouTube though I believe. Not sure how it works though, never felt the need to get it working for me.

mhl converter
Mhl works great. You just need to make sure if you are searching amazon or eBay or whatever you use to make sure it's the one for the s3 or note 2. The cable for the s2 is different for some reason. Allshare hub is ok but gets laggy on anything other than pics and videos you have on the phone already. Trying to stream Netflix from the phone through the hub doesn't work very well at all.
I use my xbox360 to stream stuff from my phone to my tv works flawlessly for music video and images. If you have any other device that supports DLNA that would work as well

I actually use that feature... pretty much go into your tv youtube app and under the sign in part theres something where you share your screen, pretty much go into that and take your tvs code and type it into your phones youtube app and a little button will appear for you when looking at videos on your phone similar to the one in gallery to share pics/vids...
Great for old movies or tv shows on youtube
Just use the mhl adapter. get one from ebay. cost like $10. This is the one I got and it works flawlessly:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251194581683
Just plug it into the phone then plug in the ac adapter (it needs power) and connect the HDMI cable from adapter to tv and BOOM, a mini power computer. I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard paired to the phone and it works great. The only thing it would make it perfect is if I can stream the optimum tv app. unfortunately the optimum tv app can detect if you are using an "external" display and it won't show the video on the tv. But you can stream watchespn, hbo go, max go and pretty much any other apps onto the big screen.
I tried to ask if anyone can hack the optimum app to allow it to be used with external display but no one replied.
No one has heard of the app mirrorop. Haven't tried on note yet. But on Asus Transformer Pad TF300T it mirrors your screen exactly but to a PC. (Which I had connected to my TV via HDMI) only downside is doesn't stream audio. Use some Bluetooth speakers. Works well
using mhl update
tv must be mhl compatable or the cable convert to hdmi n not just wires but some actual brain
second. get the 11 pin not the 5 pin mhl adapter or it wont work on note ii. [sgs2 mhl adapter wont work]

Yeah have been using the allshare dongle myself got it with the 50% disount off sammys website.... works perfect for me only problem it doesnt work on anything but stock/rooted rom .... there is a bounty in another thread but not looking to good so for now mhl or the dongle are the best choices out
I use iMediashare.

Hi, I bought a cable off of ebay (red) for $11.00 packaged for the SIII but works fine on my N2, and with my stock 2.0amp charger it stays charged, though is barely charges because of the power drain. But output of both the video and audio come through fine on my vizio tv.
Hope this helps.
Thanks i will try and look into that card the previous cord i got doesnt work at all

For any of you guys who own a Roku media box. You can use the app from the Playstore: Juice for Roku. You just add the Juice channel to your Roku device, install the Android app...connect it to your Roku, then you can stream your Pics (individually or slideshow), and video's all wirelessly to your TV through your Roku.
I use ArkMC app for long time, it works well with my htc desire, you could try

Is it possible to use Chromecast on our GPro? I plan to use it to play video from MX PLayer and view it on TV.
Also, if it is possible, what are the things needed to set up the connection?
1. My GPro installed with MX player and Chromecast app
2. Chromecast, plugged to TV?
3. Wifi modem
4. TV with HDmi input
Am I missing anything else? Like a cable or something?

Chromecast works for pretty much any Android or iOS device and PCs. MX Player will not work unless there's something new I'm not aware of. Right now it only works for YouTube, Google Play content, Netflix, Hulu (I think) and Chrome browser on PC will cast anything you can play in the web browser. Pr0n and all that lol.
Just plug the Chromecast into your HDMI port connect the power and setup here. The chromecast app just enables chromecast specific functions in the apps mentioned above. Not sure when we'll be able to play our own content. They say eventually. We'll see. I love mine I have 2 one in my bedroom and one in the living room. It also comes with everything you need.
It works

Chromecast does not work with the Samsung app. While it is on sale ($29.99) the Rocketfish Miracast receiver is better and cheaper. It mirrors your screen to a TV.

I will mirror exactly what is on the tablet so yes. Miracast is built into any android build since 4.2.1. I have used that device with these devices:

Nexus 7 2013
Droid DNA
LG G2
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014

Reason I ask is my Samsung allshare cast dongle doesn't allow me to watch movie I rent on Google movies. It's just black screen with audio. But it mirrors everything else. Same if I use an hdmi with my Asus tf700. It has something to do with drm protection. But I would guess this is a limitation built on the android device.

I am considering Chromecast or the new Roku. Does anyone have thoughts on which is better/easier? I want to be able to view movies from Redbox streaming, Netflix, google play Samsung watch and amazon primarily. Thanks.
I can cast my samsung hub movies to chromecast. I use xbmc codecs and mx player with the mx player codecs to play the open the movie and then send it to my tv using avia.

I was sitting in the bedroom last night watching the game and all of a sudden a prompt came up that said something about media device. I clicked ok and a picture of my daughter was on the screen. My fiancee came into the room with her S3 and was responsible for what was going on. Nothing additional is added for this to work with her device. Why didn't HTC add something as this to there Flagship device?

htc one can send pictures, videos and music to smart tv's. if your fiancee did it with her s3, you can probably do it to.
first, your tv and your phone have to be on the same network, so you can't use 4g on your phone. connect your phone to the wi-fi router that your tv is connected to.
second, open your gallery, click on a picture or video you want to show on your tv and click on a little "play" icon in top right corner of your phone. it will search for devices and if your tv is compatible it will be shown there. click on it and voila you can play your pictures or videos on your tv. you can do the same thing in music player.
also, depending on your rom, you can accomplish the same thing by sliding three fingers up on your screen.
note: I've noticed that it doesn't work for pictures or videos that are not on my device e.g. facebook pics and such. also my videos are choppy, but it could be my tv being not fully compatible.
