Chrome cast and Samsung video - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Took advantage of Samsung hub $50 and purchased some movie, any one figure out how to play over chromecast yet? Music from Samsung isn't drm protected but the movies are

Chromecast does not work with the Samsung app. While it is on sale ($29.99) the Rocketfish Miracast receiver is better and cheaper. It mirrors your screen to a TV.

I will mirror exactly what is on the tablet so yes. Miracast is built into any android build since 4.2.1. I have used that device with these devices:
Nexus 10
Nexus 7 2013
Droid DNA
LG G2
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014

Reason I ask is my Samsung allshare cast dongle doesn't allow me to watch movie I rent on Google movies. It's just black screen with audio. But it mirrors everything else. Same if I use an hdmi with my Asus tf700. It has something to do with drm protection. But I would guess this is a limitation built on the android device.

Unfortunately the only device you'll be able to play the movie on is the device itself. It won't output to TV.

Is this right has any one tried the mirracast?

other options
I am considering Chromecast or the new Roku. Does anyone have thoughts on which is better/easier? I want to be able to view movies from Redbox streaming, Netflix, google play Samsung watch and amazon primarily. Thanks.

I can cast my samsung hub movies to chromecast. I use xbmc codecs and mx player with the mx player codecs to play the open the movie and then send it to my tv using avia.

Does the AllShare Cast Hub really work as well as a direct HDMI connection (MHL dongle)? I think the capability looks awesome, but I'd be worried about it being glitchy or laggy. My main interest would be to watch movies.
What resolutions does it support? Surround Sound?

I bought It from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089VO7MY/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
A lot of them are sellers from the U.S though, there are a couple from the U.K also. Just google it til you find one india.
I bought mine from a third party vendor on Amazon last Friday, came tonight
Works pretty well, although I'd say up to 200 ms lag from action to HDTV display update. Videos play fine for the most part, but I did notice some artifacts for some HD videos. (EDIT: disabling mobile optimization in the allshare app reduces artifacts to the point where it's hard to find them now)
I did notice that I cannot use Multiscreen while connected. The option is just grayed out. I am guessing that system performance drops enough that multiscreen won't work well enough while connected.
I should also add that you will get artifacts if you run a more intensive program. If you are looking for a lag-free and crystal clear all-the-time experience then a physical HDMI connection is more what you want.

As I found out when I went out and bought a Samsung bluray to do this, allshare cast is different then allshare play. I didn't make the distinction when I wanted to do this. As such I didn't find any allshare cast capable blurray players. They were all share play which as far as I could tell doesn't allow mirroring.

ok. Thanks.
I did some analysis as well...
so,
AllShare Play = DLNA over wifi
AllShare Cast = Miracast/WiDi
Most TV's and blueray players will not support AllShare Cast, as WiDi is not there.
If Samsung Allshare Cast is compatible with WiDi/Miracast, then it may be cheaper to buy something like Netgear Push2TV instead.
Can someone who has both WiDi Laptop and Samsung allshare Cast, confirm that they can mirror laptop display on TV using AllShare Cast as well?
Right but you bought an Allshare Cast hub/dongle whatever. From my research the Allshare Cast isn't offered on bluray players. Just Allshare Play which is different. It doesn't allow mirroring. Just using Allshare as a general catchall is misleading.

Confirmed that our galaxy note 10.1 tablet supports Miracast.
Source: http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/19/wi...certification-just-dont-expect-apple-to-play/
Quote:
“As a leader in N-screen technology, Samsung has introduced AllShare Cast (based on Miracast), which is incorporated into most of Samsung’s high-end smart mobile devices including the GALAXY S III, GALAXY Note 10.1, and GALAXY Note II, ” said Hankil Yoon, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy Team, Samsung’s Mobile Communication Business. “We will continue to support the program, and plan to offer more Miracast-certified devices to our customers going forward.”
So folks having netgear Push2TV.. can you confirm that you can mirror display of your tablet using that as well?

Id also like to know this, or if anyone has screencast working on any other more cheaper third party dongles

Controlling TV with N7?

Notice the n7 doesn't have a IR blaster. Is there any way to control my tv/directv? Was thinking there may be a ir blaster that plugs in the micro usb at the bottom or maybe some other way. Tried searching google but couldn't find anything, any of you guys controlling your tv with your new toy?

I use the LG TV 2011 app on my GS3 and new N7. The LG 3DTV I have has a bunch of smart apps like Netflix, VUDU etc, plus its a good replacement for the magic wand remote. In fact I prefer using the app over that remote, though I was surprised it uses Wifi vs Bluetooth. I find the BT smoother to operate.
do you have any problems turning on your tv with the lg 2011 remote? i don't get my n7 til the 1st, but my galaxy s3 can't turn the tv on for whatever reason.
You can always buy the Logitech Harmony Ultimate hub ;P
We have a Roku and use the Roku app. Boom

NO! this does not work with chromecast. it will work with DLNA-enabled TVs.
according to android authority:
"Starting in AllCast Beta 7, users can now cast their Google Drive and locally stored content over to any DLNA-capable device including many popular game systems (Xbox One, PS3, etc), Apple TV and most smart TVs. Due to the currently locked nature of Chromecast, the app does not support Google’s streaming device, however."

Unfortunately loads of people are reporting that Allcast beta 7 doesn't work with the PS3, but I found a work around if you have a Samsung galaxy phone:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqu7BPqjo4s&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Only works well with 720p mp4 and avi content.
What's with all those updates recently?
I received 3 alone yesterday, one today also dated back for yesterday.
Changing version numbers, but no changelog or other version history in the PlayStore.
PS
merry xmas!
Is there a way - even using root - to increase subtitle font?

[Q] Chromecast

Is it possible to use Chromecast on our GPro? I plan to use it to play video from MX PLayer and view it on TV.
Also, if it is possible, what are the things needed to set up the connection?
1. My GPro installed with MX player and Chromecast app
2. Chromecast, plugged to TV?
3. Wifi modem
4. TV with HDmi input
Am I missing anything else? Like a cable or something?

Chromecast works for pretty much any Android or iOS device and PCs. MX Player will not work unless there's something new I'm not aware of. Right now it only works for YouTube, Google Play content, Netflix, Hulu (I think) and Chrome browser on PC will cast anything you can play in the web browser. Pr0n and all that lol.
Just plug the Chromecast into your HDMI port connect the power and setup here. The chromecast app just enables chromecast specific functions in the apps mentioned above. Not sure when we'll be able to play our own content. They say eventually. We'll see. I love mine I have 2 one in my bedroom and one in the living room. It also comes with everything you need.
It works

Will Chromecast work with GNex?

I want to mirror my screen to my TV using Chromecast. Is it possible on the Galaxy Nexus?
Chromecast does not mirror. You have a bunch of applications that can stream media to your TV via HDMI port. That's the basic idea and also it's beauty so you can turn off your phone or disconnect and the stream is still playing on your TV.

Mirroring from phone to TV is the old fashion way, just get an Android TV box or TV stick (as big as a USB thumb drive), plug right into your hdmi port on your TV, now you have a full Android on your TV with a real browser and all the Android apps from playstore, next download the XBMC app (free), now you just turn your tiny little TV Android box into a super MEDIA CENTER, where you can stream anything directly to your TV, from latest HD movies, TV series etc...and use your phone as the remote control for the Android box or wireless keyboard/mouse.
That's a nice idea, but then how do I watch videos and pictures stored in my phone?
