Mobile Data Keeps Turning Off - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

My mobile data keeps turning itself off after 4.3 update. This is annoying as I use Whatsapp primarily vs. text, so I often don't get messages when I should, or don't get my EPSN and Bleacher Report notifications due to mobile data unknowingly being off. Anybody else having this issue or know how to fix this bug?
Background:
- Stock unrooted Android 4.3
- No data usage limits set
- Happens sporadically regardless of battery power levels

[Q] Data usage with ICS

Since the upgrade to ICS my data consumption increased by at least 50%. Despite the restriction of background data and the deactivation of sync service, every time I unlock the phone the orange and green arrows of data transmission show up with no evident reason to me. I did a factory reset but no change. I do not recall this happening in GB. Any ideas why this is happening and how to stop it?

Always-on mobile data option missing.

So I want to have Pandora play continuously, as it currently stops when the screen locks. After some searching, it looks like the fix is to keep mobile data always on.
However 'Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Enable always-on mobile data' DOES NOT EXIST. What gives?
From what I can tell by doing a simple Google image search, the only phones to even have this option are pre ICS/JB.
If the option has been removed, is there any way to bring it back? If not, can I do anything else to have Pandora keep playing after the screen has been locked for a few minutes? I don't have any battery optimization apps (JuiceDefender, etc) installed that could be causing data to drop.
I'm on a GSM Galaxy Nexus (T-Mobile) running 4.1.1 rooted.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advanced.
Pandora stops playing when your screen turns off? That seems more like a network throttling problem. Once your screen turns off it throttles down to 2g? I've never had a problem with pandora not playing when the screen locks.
Yeah, the next song wont load.
I don't think it's throttling down to 2G, I'm pretty sure it just disconnects from mobile data.
I'm not the only one with this issue (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698172)
That is very strange.
Instead of trying to set data to always on, try setting screen on to always on.

Data always on while the screen is off is the default. There is no settings option to control what happens with mobile data when the screen is off. There's an option for WiFi, but not mobile data.
Are you sure you don't have an app that's turning off your mobile data when your screen is off? That's usually what's happening in these situations.
Could also be an issue with Pandora. Have you tried other apps and experienced the same thing? Also, you'd be able to see the data being turned back on when you turn the screen on (it takes several seconds). If you turn the screen on and it shows its connected in the status bar, the data isn't turning off and you're having another problem.

I'm sure there is no other app that's controlling this. I did however mess around with multiple 'toggle' apps when I first got the phone. Maybe I toggled the wrong thing. Would the setting stick even through an un-install of the app?
When I unlock the phone sometimes, the internet icon in the status bar is grey. It turns to blue shortly after. From what I have read though, this is normal to some extent, right?
I think you're right about this being a Pandora issue. I just realized that I use the default music app to stream all of my music through Google Play with the phone locked for hours on end and no issues at all.
Not sure how to fix Pandora though. The songs stop playing even on wifi when I lock the screen. I even have 'Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep' set to Always. I'd hate to not use Pandora much because of this, since I just find out how to get unlimited skips and no ads.

Yeah I could do that when plugged in and charging, but I don't want to kill battery when not.
Are you under clocking your device?
You could try the WIFI high performance widget when you are on WiFi, but I don't know if will help when on mobile data.
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
It's not the app. Been using Pandora since I got the Gnex with no issues. Do you have some battery saving app? That may turn off data when screen is off...
Edit: Also AOKP has the auto data off in settings I believe.. are you on stock rooted ROM? I saw you say you have no app but something is turning off your data.

WIFI high performance totally works! Thank you. The strange thing is even though the app doesn't work over mobile data (obviously), Pandora magically started working with the phone locked on mobile data. I even uninstalled the app, and it still works over. However, it won't continue streaming for me on wifi unless I enable WIFI high performance. Not a huge deal, I'm just happy it works.

I'm rooted on the stock ROM and I'm sure nothing is turning it off. It actually magically works now over mobile date, but I still have issues on wifi unless I enable the widget mentioned above. Yours streams over wifi no problem?

[Q] AOKP 4.1.2 VJ - data issues, only reboots solve the problem

Has any one else faced data issues with the AOKP 4.1.2 VJ ROM? Every once in a while, the data connectivity dies. The mobile network is fine, i get calls and SMS, but data goes away completely and the only way to solve this is to reboot. It has been happening roughly twice a day on average and is rather annoying as i have to constantly monitor the status bar to ensure data is on or people trying to text me on Viber think i am not responding to them... sometimes see these messages 2 hrs late
Hoping there is a solution to this.

Hello arajashe,
did you found a solution for this? My wife has the same problem at the moment.

Problem: screen off = no data

Hello,
I've had this problem for months now, and figured it was bug or something, but recently I did a clean install of lollipop 5.0 (now 5.1.1) and the problem is still there.
Sometimes, when the screen is off, I have no connection. I can see this by looking at Whatsapp web, which uses your phone's connection. It says my phone has no connection. When I press the powerbutton, the message disappears and I start to receive messages.
It doesn't loose connection all the time - I will get the messages eventually with the screen off - 10, 20, 30 minutes.
Here's the thing:
- Stamina mode: OFF (stamina clock and extended usage also off) - well at least it's set to 60% and currently 75% battery.
- Queue background data: OFF
- Wifi NO sleep mode.
- Also happens with 3G
Back in the day, I even tried clearing data on the stamina mode service? I can't remember the details.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
is it only happening with whatsapp? have you checked other websites? try fully turning off stamina mode and do a restart then try connecting.

I just tested with pushbullet and message didn't come in.
I have another problem with WiFi, but I'm not sure it's related. I sometimes don't get messages on Wifi either, even with screen ON.
Pushbullet message didn't come in with screen unlocked. Weird thing is, now with lollipop it shows a (!) when the wifi doesn't give you any connection, but it doesn't show that in this case.
The moment I disable wifi, messages come in.
Like I said I'm not sure if it's related..
Wish there was other way. But i think you need to start with a factory reset. See if that solves the issue. If not, then try a reinstall. Good luck.

Keep data running when screen is off.

So I have the Chinese firmware. I really would prefer to hold onto it as I most likely will be moving to China within the next year. I notice that when my phone is on standby all data flow for some apps seem to stop (especially whatsapp and snapchat). However if I boot up a game or play a video the messages start back coming through.
I have gone into the settings and turned off all restrictions on battery saver for these apps but they still dont respond once the phone has gone to sleep. Is there any way to get them to stop doing that?
On a side note tinder just doesnt work for me I get a location error even though it has full access to my gps.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have global version. it's in Security App > Settings> Battery Optimization > Turn off mobile data when device is locked
