i have become addicted to knock on in the time i have been waiting to root(i usually wait 30 days before rooting just in case i decide i dont like the device) and switch my g pad to an aosp rom, but im thinking i cant live without this feature especially now that i have the g2.as well.
has anyone heard of a knockon kernel in development for aosp 4.4?

I don't know any kernel for this tablet with this feature yet, but I use on my n7 2013 the application screen off. While using nova launcher prime, add a gesture, double tap, and asign that to the screen off app (it's in the play store, the color of the icon is blue-purple). When you double tap the screen, it will turn off, but while it's off you can't turn it on. It's a beggining though
CM11 supports double tap to go out of sleep and there's also support for going into sleep with double tap on statusbar as of a couple of days ago, you need to activate it under settings/interface/statusbar though.

Hi all,
I saw some great stuff to wake phone swyping directly on the screen, like PGM on play store (for Evo 3D and Galaxy Nexus), and was wondering if would be possible to have it for my One X.
I was using Faux kernel including S2W, and really liked it, but I think it would be better/easier/more useful if we can wake touching the screen, not the 3 buttons.
Also, for exemple in Nova Launcher, there is the option to launch an app making other gestures than swype, like pinch or rotate. Do you think it would be possible to wake the phone just pinchin screen when off ? What about battery drain ? Lot of users had complaints about S2W draining the battery, but I didn't noticed a big difference with or without this feature.
Do you think a feature like this would be useful ? Technically, is it realistic ?
Sorry for poor english :silly:
nobody has any idea or interest in such feature? I think it would be great to have the possibility to pinch the screen to wake it, so easier than swiping over the buttons, and with less fails. And I don't think that kind of gesture could be easily done while phone is in the pocket.

Hello, great idea but not so "feasible" easilly ... imo
How do you swype on a screen which is not activated ?
You will let the screen always activated ? I don't think the battery will appreciate.
Maybe you can activate the touch screen without the display screen
but that should surely need a kernel modification if it's not "hardware" locked.
The only app i see that make something very similar is Tap Tap Tap
and it uses the proximity sensor ...
PS : I never achieved to make Tap Tap Tap work correctly each time i Tap Tap
Yes, kernel modification should be needed, the Evo 3D app PGM is a kernel module. I emailed the developer, who explained that he logically can't develop apps for devices that he hasn't got. But if it works in Evo 3D and Galaxy Nexus, it surely can be developed for One X.
His app does not seems to drain too much battery. Anyway, if it is possible to make it using 2-fingers gestures like pinch or rotate, maybe it should be possible too to only activate the screen when there is this double contact. I don't really understand about development, but had read something like S2W was not draining battery because of activation only when the 2nd button was touched.
Tap Tap is not compatible with ICS 4.0.4, can't try it...
But many comments say that it drains battery a lot, and can easily wake screen when in pocket, so it's more like an option you punctually use I think.
Well, only 10 votes, but 60% love the idea.
Would be a great feature included in future ViperX 2.0 rom

indeed, something different =D
I'm looking for a Galaxy Nexus rom that can be set up to behave like this:
When I turn on the screen, I should get the slide-to-unlock screen. So a single swipe would unlock the phone.
BUT if the screen has been off for more than 10 minutes, AFTER the slide-to-unlock screen I'd like to get the pattern lock, so I have to draw my unlock pattern to unlock the phone.
That means I'd get two lockscreens after each other when the display has been off for more than 10 minutes, but just one lockscreen if the time was shorter.
(This is exactly the way in which HTC Sense worked by default on my old Desire.)
Im currently running rooted stock Jelly Bean, and I'm using Tasker to implement this behaviour. But this is not the most elegant way... so I was wondering if there is any rom that can be configured like this WITHOUT using Tasker...
Interesting request. I've got Tasker setup so it will disable lock pattern while I'm connected to my home wifi. Does the trick for me.

So far that I've seen, no ROM does this by default. You need to download an app like go locker or widget locker. That's at least what I was told. I posted the same topic here a few days asking if it was possible to do on a system level w/o an app. Only real answer I got was that, yes it is likely possible, but hasn't been done yet.

Ive actually done the same, in addition to my 10 minutes delay.
Still, the task sometimes just doesnt work and the pattern lock doesnt get reactivated as it should... not sure why.

So Ill stick to Tasker for now I guess.
Problem is, it only works reliable when I set the Tasker task to "keep device awake", but then it just eats up the battery...
Most of the time, it also works if the "keep device awake" setting is disabled, but not always...
I wonder why Android doesnt offer this by default, as HTC Sense did. I think it makes perfect sense, since it combines the usefulness of the quick unlock actions (launch camera or google search from lockscreen) with the security of a pattern lock.

+1. I like being able to unlock straight to different apps, but don't want to sacrifice security to do so. Hopefully we start seeing this implemented into ROMs soon, or at least an option to check, in order to allow for it. Thinking about purchasing widget locker until then. :/

Yeah but then I would only have an option to unlock to certain apps while home. Where my brother could pick up my phone and do whatever he wants with it if I happen to set it down. Just as well, if I am out and about I will only have a pattern unlock and I can't open to anything but the homescreen. I want both all the time. Would be nice if I didn't have to spend money on widget locker to do so. Go locker is too much, everything GO is too much. Too over the top. From what I remember go locker always lagged on every phone I used it on too. It's not really that odd, or difficult of a request I'd think. Especially since it was stock like that on gingerbread. Guess y'all forgot since you had ICS and JB for so long. I on the other hand just got my Stratosphere (2.3.5) replaced with this and it was stock on that phone.... Also not that it matters, but what's with the little copy pasta there lol?
Just to update the OP and whoever else this may concern - this is now incorporated into BAMF Paradigm version 2.2.

Since I don't have enough posts I will just ask this here instead of dev thread. My E973 can use GMD Gesture control fine in stock rom but when I flash CM10.1/AOKP I can't get it to work. The only thing that work is the 3 finger swipe up/down gesture which acts when i use only 1 finger to swipe. Can someone test and confirm this?
confirmed
I came up on this post from a search, I am using a tf300 Asus tablet, but I am also using cm10.1. The app works on stock ROMs but on cm10.1 the 'back' does not work, nor does screen off, nor does kill app. Not sure why but also looking for a fix cause I love this app!

GMD gesture control, not many ppl use this/heard of it. therefore I figured i'd post it
I have my phone setup like this
swipe up from the bottom border (center) only of the screen with 1 finger gives me my multitasking menu
swipe the bottom border right turns off the screen/locks my phone
you can turn this feature off for certain apps (such as games) in the GMD settings menu
its faster and better, especially the multitasking, its only a couple bucks and worth it, I couldn't use my phone without it
Enjoy
It tried what you were saying with the swipe up from bottom center, but, it interferes with swiping my notification drawer back up. I naturally swipe up from the center there.
Either way coming from a Jailbroken iphone, I was trying to find an equivalent to activator. Now I have found it.
ps. can't wait for the try out the new ROM when I get home. don't have enough posts to post in the dev section yet.
You can do the same with almost every launcher.
Adw
Adw ex
Nova
Apex
Tsf
(Even has gesture to bring up a side menu like Ubuntu)
And even LMT which is free
No need to spend extra money, just look in options in your default launcher.

all of these launchers support gestures, yes.
However, GMT offers gesture actions not available in LMT or in the launchers (to be fair, nova is the one i use, so thats the only one I can be sure of).
Dan suggested this to me to find a way to turn off my screen and lock my phone, which i could not figure out using nova nor LMT. with GMT it is very simple to do.
Think of GMT like Activator is for iPhone. very customizable, and it gives you options that LMT and the launchers do not.:good:

I don't want to sound like a smarta$$ or
go against what you're saying or anything to start flamming each other,
But what's wrong with just hitting the power button? Or just let the screen time out kick in?
I mean by all means if you have the money, go and buy that bad boy lol but I wouldn't spend money when the power button is just right there

I found this app really useful for my needs as well. Ever since I had my volume down button fail on me on my old Motorola Atrix, I've been trying to avoid using hardware buttons as much as I can on my phones. I might just be too paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, cause selling a phone with a broken button was tough lol. And I'm not experienced enough to open phones and repair them myself.
I used to rely on either setting the screen timeout to 15 seconds, or a screen off toggle from the 23 toggle mod. I really like the GMD gestures more now.
The free version of GMD offers the main gestures, like the screen off, at the expense of a persistent notification icon.
The app is very useful, I can swipe to kill an app, swipe to return to home, that takes the wear and tear off the home button

I'm guessing this app doesn't change the way multitasking works in android, it just allows you to open the "recent apps" menu faster?

Hi All,
I'm a long time member of xda-devs since the original xda phone back in the early 00's. I had a second gen galaxy tab but ditched it for an ipad 3 as it wasn't quite the experience I was after. Now I've ditched the lead weight that is the ipad and am absolutely loving the Note.
I have a few questions...
1. Are there any gestures (e.g. multi finger swipes) that can be used to cycle through the open apps, or am I limited to a long press on the home button then a tap?
2. Are there any other gestures that are possible to streamline use?
3. When typing a number or symbol, is there any way of configuring it to go back to the letter keys once the number/symbol has been typed, rather than having to tap the ABC button?
4. Is there any way of displaying the email or gmail widgets on the lock screen?
I'm sure there'll be more questions as I explore further.
Thanks for any guidance.

Very happy that you made the switch, but given that the note 8 is new just be patient. If I were you I would install an AOSP rom and install nova which supports a ton of gestures. Spend some time playing with mods and you will find that you can customize your Os to your liking. Something that is very difficult to do with even a jailbroken iPad. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your investment.

1. GMD GestureControl works pretty good for multi finger swipes, just not as good as iPad. There is a lite version on playstore. You can give it a tr there but for me I'm using LMT launcher which is also good too, can find it here or just google it.
2. I'm not sure.
3. I think you need to tap ABC button for that.
4. There will be on 4.2 but for now you may need to try aosp or cm10.1 for that which is not available for our note yet? Or maybe not stable yet.
Check Nova launcher for 1 and 2. For example, I use a double tap on the screen to open up recent apps. There is also some built in spen gestures under settings, spen, and Samsung gestures under settings, motion. The spen settings allow youto add your own spen gestures too.
3. In the built in Samsung keyboard you have access to numbers and letters simultaneously, can use swipe instead of tap, or write letters with the spen that are converted to text. In other keyboards, long pressing a letter on the top row usually equals a number, so you can avoid going back and forth the number and letter sets.
4. This is possible with Daydream add ons but we'd have to wait for Samsung to update the Note 8 to the current Android OS, 4.2.2, then install Daydream widget clock plus. Maybe there are other apps that can be used in the meantime or launchers with that feature. (I turned off lock screen on my device, I find it annoying, I would rather open the cover and be in the app where I left off immediately. )

I was just like you with an ipad 3 and this was the first thing I was after as well. I found gmd gesture control and I'm so very grateful. Just be careful because one of those apps (pen control or gesture control not sure which one since I have both) have issues when I use my spen and lay my hand on the screen. I blacklisted handwriting apps but when I use the pop-up note I can't blacklist anything since it hovers on the home screen.
