I've been having issues the last few days charging my Sprint Galaxy s3. When plugged in, the phone will recognized that it should be charging, but the battery will not charge. When turned off and plugged in, it charges very slowly, maybe 1 percent every half an hour. I've tried many different USB cables, but that does not seem to be the issue as the same cables charged my Nexus 7 just fine. I had the battery tested at the sprint store, and they told me that it was fine. Anybody have some insight to help me out?

Same exact issue I had not too long ago. The problem for me was the charging port on my phone. I had to get it replaced

How did you go about doing that?

Sorry for not being clear, but I meant to say I had to get my phone replaced. The sprint tech people tried fixing it but their fix only worked for a day.

Ok so here is the story, I noticed my micro usb was fitting in my phone pretty losely a few days ago. I didn't think anything of it, but today I was at work with 30% battery. So I go to charge it (stock wall mount & usb from my house) and noticed it wasnt charging. So after work I went to the mall to buy a charger, the ones they had didn't work, so I went to tmobile, and there's didn't work either. I came to the conclusion that my usb port is broken =/ my phone was completely dead for a few hours (plugged in the wall at home, hoping it'll charge) and as of 3 hours its gone from 0% to 15%, and the charging "lightning" bolt isn't over the battery indicating a charger is being recognized. Also it doesn't say its charging on the lock screen either. I am completely confused, is it a bad usb port? Bad battery? What should I do? I'm using an old G2 I found in a drawer until I find a solution.
Also I bought my Phone from some guy on craigstlist eliminating possible warranty right?
Thank guys!

You can still try warranty and see if that works. I guess when you are submitting the service request just say what's wrong. I bought a phone from someone some time ago and sent it in for repair. Fixed no questions asked.

You call Samsung of course. But when I called them for a warranty, they asked me for the receipt. So you might need it too... But doesn't hurt.

Here's an update. I pulled the battery out and back in then kept the phone off while the charger was in the phone, so it showed the Barry charing icon. I let it sit that way over night and when I turn the phone on this morning its 100% battery, but frankly it won't charge back up again. Its not recognizing my charger, I'm guessing it'll only charge the phone if the phone is off?

Hi, I have read here that some are doing this. What would be the effect of this on the battery life, as it usually takes only about 3 hours to charge to full. Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
There's no effect, it's fine. The phone knows when to stop charging.
agreed - I've been doing this with my phone every night since the G1 days with no problems
:good:
No overheating or whatever? Okay thanks. Nice to know that.

the charging micro will turn off supply to the battery when it is 'charged' so nothing to worry about at all
Yeah when the phone gets to 100% it will disconnect until 98% then start charging again.

I think this is a base android feature, even my TF101 tablet does this when it's on the dock. It'll discharge until about 96% then start re-charging.
I've had this phone for 1.5 months now flashing daily never had any problems until three days ago my battery charges so slow that I can't keep my phone charged it's even draining while I have it on the charger! I know one ONE time I couldn't find my Samsung wall adapter so I used my iPad charger but the voltage is the same and its at 2amps so it can't be the culprit can it?? any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Oh BTW I wiped data, both cache, /system, fresh flash, fix perm., baterry stats, all of the above and still dies slowly on the charger... maybe I need another cable? Iddk :/

I think I charged my battery once or twice with a nexus 7 charger (2 amps). I didn't explode or anything.
Go to a sprint store and ask nicely to test their own battery. See if maybe your battery died (don't discharge this type of batteries below 10 or so %, that damages them over time and the capacity is reduced).
Also thought I should mention I have all sync support off..

When you say test their battery do you mean just to check if it charges? Maybe I should go with my charger and all? But honestly I can't find my s3 wall adapter I'm using my Epic 4g Touch adapter lol!!!!

Sprint will give u one at the store under warranty. Samsung will ship you one, even out of warranty, as they warranty the batteries for 18months vs the 12 for the device itself. Or so said the guy at Samsung that sent me mine for my E4GT last week

My phone isn't charging at all.
In an attempt to charge, I turned it off and plugged in the charger. The charging animation did come up bit it would keep on coming up (like it's in a loop) and my phone still won't actually charge.
PC wasn't recognizing the phone either. Was saying that the USB device is not recognized.
I tried pushing up the metal inside the USB slot too. Not working. Maybe I haven't done that correctly.
What exactly could be the issue? The fact that the screen shows the charging animation when phone is off makes me feel that the USB slot may not really be faulty. But even though the animation comes, it vanishes before it should be complete (ie it vanishes before the battery icon is filled with white) and starts the animation from the beginning.
For ****s, flash the stock image, but it really sounds like faulty.... Something, try other USB bricks and cables.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Tried different cables. It's the same.
I can't flash the factory image either but my battery is completely dead now and I need to charge it to boot the phone up. And to be honest, I don't think flashing stock will really help.
had this issue as well, ended up just getting a replacement. Figured it was hardware issue. couldn't ever get it fixed
Wow!! Suddenly everything is working. Just kept the phone idle in the drawer with the battery taken out for around 30 minutes. Connected the charger and it's working fine.
Even though is temporarily fixed. Its a USB port problem. Mine has the same. I just use an external charger.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
The actual problem is the mid board. I had that same problem. what you need to do is get the mid board replace inside of the phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Had the same issue some days back... Some days it charged and some days it won't charge at all.. While it's off it says its charging but it actually isn't .. Did some reading n found out that the USB flex port was gone.. Replaced it and everything fine now...

How much does a USB flex port cost? I'll need it in case the problem occurs again.

Yep, I am facing the same and this issue seems to be going around even for Nexus 4. The problem lies around 4.3 update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44572078#post44572078
Try these steps but none of them help. The only way to charge your phone at the moment is to switch it off, wait a few seconds, connect charger and see that charging animation starts. Now you can switch on the phone and the phone almost everytime continues charging.
I have no idea what causes this and I hope someone can pin the fault somewhere...but no cigar so far.

I think the contrary. It is software issue. Nexus 4 users are worst effected by it. And no one seems to have a clue. Its just known that it is restricted to 4.3 only.
Can you link the Nexus 4 thread please?

There are half a dozen more and most of the people have given up.
I downgraded to 4.2.2 and still, the phone doesn't charge. Its a pain in the arse.
I guess I should just go back to 4.3 and wait for a fix since downgrading didn't fix the issue, this is a bummer to say the least

This may be a dumb question but would this have anything to do with not having the 4.3 boot loader??? I didn't install it, my understanding was it wasn't necessary on the Verizon gnex

OK update I flashed back to 4.3 and went into storage and unchecked "connect as media deviceā and so far it is charging OK from all sources, only problem I still have is the the charging indicator still flashes on and of when unplugged

OK here is an update, I have cleaned out my port with a small screwdriver from an eyeglass repair kit, used some compressed air and a little bit of electrical contact cleaner and gently raised up the charging port a bit ( to where it was originally, mine was bent down a bit ) and bam! So far its working again like a charm

Hi today found out that my note is acting strange whenever I try to charge while its on it wont let me the charging icon shows with a big red cross on it and wont charge a bit it just keeps draining. Tried while its off and it works normally , disturbs me to have to turn it off each time I want to charge it, anyone experienced this before?

are you using the stock charger. if not make sure that the aftermarket charger is a 2A charger.
Its the usb connection signal. Mine did that occasionaly too, but not lately. It should recognize its charging after a second or two

i have no issues when using stock charger and cable, I run across this with other charges and cables that are less than 2 amps though
what kind of charger are you using or cable?
Thanks for your answers guys its the stock one which makes this kinda strange.
Yes this has happened to me on a couple of occasions. Unplugging and plugging it back in solved the problem. I also discovered that not only does the charger matter, but I got different results (charging times) using the same charger but different cables. Maybe there are different guage wire used in the cables?

yes, the cable also matters to handle the extra amps, so you need both the stock charger and cable combo
My stock cable went bad somehow and I had the same problem. It wouldn't charge at all. Even overnight

After reading this thread, I went and downloaded an app called Galaxy Charging Current. I know there are a lot of battery management apps out there, but this is a really simple, basic app that tells you how many amps are flowing thro the charger and cable to your device. My device using OEM pulls 1.8A.
I'll be buying a car charger from Amazon and will use this app to determine if it performs as claimed.
