[Q] tablet version of android?

As I understand it there are three flavours of android: phone, tablet, and tablet with phone capabilities (correct me if I am wrong). At any rate I would like to install a room with the JellyBean tablet UI and I want to know if that is possible and if such a rom exists that would support the s pen, etc. Possibly a modified version of the note 10.1 rom? Just a thought.
Android 3 was Tablet. Android 4 and on is for both phone and tablet. It's more about the apps recognizing the device.
I'm not exactly sure what the developers do, but the hybrid roms such as Paranoid Android have the ability to use tablet versions of apps and UI of other apps. The more sophisticated ones have where it can be set app to app.
Thus, I would suggest trying out Paranoid Android or Cyongenmod. Make sure to read the fine print so you understand what they have working, not working, and almost working. These are still in beta or alpha.
There's no separate tablet/phone versions of Android. You can make your phone and apps look exactly as they would on a tablet by modifying settings and using the Xposed framework.

Best launcher that works on the 8.9 HD?

I don't like go launcher too much, wallpaper doesnt stick very well either. Any suggestions?
I didn't like go launcher too much either, it's better on a phone. I just started using apex launcher and I love it. Not sure if adw works but It was one of my favorites on my HTC, imagine it would be pretty good for tablet

I too prefer Nova. It feels light and fast.
I have used apex launcher and liked it. Now I'm on CM10.1

Unfortunately, it has the same issue as other third-party launchers (except ADW): you can't move icons around in landscape mode as a result of a screen rotation bug.
Has anyone tried Trebuchet?

I may give this a try. I've only just finished rooting and I haven't installed a launcher yet.
Go Launcher HD also works well and does not exhibit the landscape-mode rotation bug when moving icons around.
just started using Smart Launcher, and so far I really like it. It's minimalist yet pretty customizable and automatically categorizes apps. It's also seems to have a much lower footprint than the stock launcher so everything's a lot more responsive.
I tried out different launchers and ended up with APEX, it is working very good, never any issues. Feels like a real ICS/JB tablet.
Holo laucher HD is also light and very pretty! It's worth trying it!
NOVA issues?

I'm not sure what the deal is but I used KindleFree to "hack" the 8.9 a bit and Nova seems to be very glitchy/sluggish. It doesn't hold the wallpaper beyond a few days (reverts back to stock ice cream sandwich rainbow looking wallpaper). My folders and apps seem to stay put though. Anyone else battling this? It really struggles when I get notifications in the drawer. I have to actually reboot it a lot, as it freezes up on me.
I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling. No dice. Can't really wipe things out (system, dalvik, etc.) either being a semi-hack with KindleFree. I would love a workable ROM on this like CM10 or something. Seems complicated though.
Another vote for Nova...I use it across every device I can
Honestly Nova launcher is not your best bet because it is not made for tablets. My suggestion is Apex Launcher. Its almost virtually identical but features tablet mode and is light weight and fast. Now if you wanna make it run flawless your gonna have to tweak your device to act better. My suggestion is SetCPU for over/underclocking and Pimp My Rom for everything else. After I did that my Apex launcher behavedand still behaves quite nicely.

Customize Call Screen

I'm currently on 4.2.2 by icebox, though I like the rom very much, I don't like android stock call screen. So just thinking to make it like stock sense 4.0.4 call screen. I've just started customizing the android app and still a learner, so just wanted to know guys if it is possible at all. Also if you can suggest me where to start with, this would be great. I know there are some apps available in the play store but I just want to customise the stock phone apk only. Thanks in advance.

[Q] Another G3 owner looking for a head start on android world

Hi All!
I came to android world with a 16GB / G3 - European (A6FR) model. My previous experience is with iPhones.
Myself i am basically a programmer mostly in .NET / PHP world. Using ubuntu as a casual user/admin..
But thats it. Never touched android development or android phone tweaking.
I want to use the phone stock first but i would like to get started on rooting/flashing e.t.c later.
So in stock-use what things are safe and "by the book" to do? for example i am ok to change the launcher and use Nova launcher?
Yes you can

Does Sketchbook Pro run Smith enough on this tablet?

Hello I just ordered one of these off eBay for $80 in excellent condition but I feel like I should've asked if sketchbook runs smooth enough on here? I know it's old hardware, but still better than Snapdragon 410 in Galaxy A tab. I wanted a small tablet with s pen (Wacom). I don't need it for anything else I have an iPhone 6s and i7 desktop and Skylake i3 laptop
what version JB 4.1.2 or 4.2.2? Hopefully you didn't get 4.4.2.
As of this month I finally got the best ever overall operation in 4.4.2. But it is not anywhere as perfect as 4.1.2 or 4.2.2
If by chance you have KK, you can either root and use a custom kernel or do the S Note fix to correct the spen pixel issue
It is easy to do, but any complain about it being trial and error. Once you get the knack, you'll wonder why you had such a problem in the first place.
I have the app in question along with Layer Paint HD, and Paper Artist. once you align your spen in KK, you won't have any issues with drawing apps.
There are custom ROMs that correct the spen issue but some still need work as they are not 100% fully functional as stock is.
Since I require perfect miracast functions, with minimal bugs with a nice layout. I was forced into manually selecting components from S5, Tab 4 and Note 2 stock ROMs, along with some ported system apps distributed by Devs. Some very few apps are from dead ROMs, where the Dev let rot away.
Yes you can run S5 apps in stock form, just need to root and run Xposed with app settings. Some apps require 320 or so DPI, and others may require 190 or 220. It is a trial and error, but they are stock, and with a build.prop mod, you can update them on Play or Galaxy.
I run the latest versions of Tab 4 version and S5 version of Peel Smart Remotes. As S5 has a better layout.
Some apps like Kids mode need a small tweak with a saved older sub app to run, though the lock screen widget interactions and gator animations are missing.
I run my N5110 as a T330 (Tab 4 8.0) in my build prop, 90% of the time, with out any issues with my apps. The remainder of my usage is in S5 form, as my Chrome Dev browser with Samsung's chrome customization system app, operates a wee better browsing on the Internet. Seems that the updated versions are not so device dependant in the build.prop requirements.
Hello thanks! Sounds good I don't have the device yet. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions. Hopefully it's not 4.4.2 like you said.
Okay sadly it has 4.4.2 Can yuu point me in the direction of the spen fix?
By the way I have SAMSUNG-SGH-I467 sounds like it's hard to root this device?
autocorrect sucks on your thread title...
Smith or smooth? XD
