As I understand it there are three flavours of android: phone, tablet, and tablet with phone capabilities (correct me if I am wrong). At any rate I would like to install a room with the JellyBean tablet UI and I want to know if that is possible and if such a rom exists that would support the s pen, etc. Possibly a modified version of the note 10.1 rom? Just a thought.
Android 3 was Tablet. Android 4 and on is for both phone and tablet. It's more about the apps recognizing the device.
I'm not exactly sure what the developers do, but the hybrid roms such as Paranoid Android have the ability to use tablet versions of apps and UI of other apps. The more sophisticated ones have where it can be set app to app.
Thus, I would suggest trying out Paranoid Android or Cyongenmod. Make sure to read the fine print so you understand what they have working, not working, and almost working. These are still in beta or alpha.
There's no separate tablet/phone versions of Android. You can make your phone and apps look exactly as they would on a tablet by modifying settings and using the Xposed framework.

You can't boot anything in then world with iOS besides an Apple device. The project is closed off to everyone except Apple itself. Besides, why would you want that crummy OS anyways? However you can (this is true with some devices) dual boot others ROMS at the same time such as MIUI (which might be more suited to you), AOKP (better than CM), CM or what have you.

Although, I think if you have a jailbroken iOS device, you can dual boot it.
I think Soupmagnet means dualboot ios and android on an apple device.

Yes, you can run Android on an iOS device pretty easily, and it has already been dual booted with iOS/Android.
This is an old article but it shows you how.

Introduction:
Android Hacks - Dual-Boot iOS on Your Android Phone
The Gadget Hacks team has built a simple one-tap mod that allows you to dual-boot iOS on your Android phone right from your browser by utilizing a mobile-webkit buffer overflow, and taking advantage of the fact that both Android and iPhone CPUs use the same ARM instruction set.
Requirements:
Android 4.0 or higher, Plus support lollipop
1 GB of free storage space
Trivia:
No root required
100% reversible (as easy as uninstalling an app)
None of your existing data will be touched (no need to reinstall apps or contacts)
Steps to run iOS on Android:
1. Tap the giant "Dual-Boot iOS" button below.
2. Wait for few minutes

Hello,
I would like to buy a subscription to t3 magazine, but the free reader app is marked 'incompatible':
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodwing.t3
Can someone upload the apk somewhere so I can try it?
It should be okay to ask for apks of free apps right?
- Frank
I think you should post that question on this forum's tablet section since it appears to be only compatible with:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Motorola Xoom 1
Motorola Xoom 2
Asus EeePad Transformer Prime 10.1
Asus EeePad Slider
Acer Inspire 10.1
Or you can also try to flash any Paranoid Android rom and set Google Play to tablet mode, it might (I say might) allow you to install it.

I don't think that will work.
As far as I know, google play goes by device, and doesn't care what rom you are running on it. (outside of perhaps version number).
I don't see why it wouldn't run on the galaxy note - whether stuff is too small to read, and buttons easy enough to push is another story.
I could see pages not being 'zoomable' since it's assumed you are on a 10 inch tablet.

Well that's why I said it might work. Though I still think I've had access to different apps on the market while running Paranoid Android rom..
Why is my phone cooler than my Kindle Fire tablet? I don't mean hardware. My phone has obviously better hardware than the Kindle. What I mean is why do apps behave differently, in fact better, on my phone than on my KF?
As an example, the Kindle Reader app on my phone shows a book browser within the app when I search for books. On the KF when I want to browse books, the app opens up Amazon's web site in a browser (not the nicest of interfaces for a small screen).
Another example is the Dolphin browser. On my phone, pressing the back button (on this web site for example) actually goes to the previous page whereas on the KF I have to press the back button at least twice and often more in order to get to the previous page; sometimes I have to time it just right, too.
There are a lot of little things like those examples that make my phone cooler in spite of its significantly smaller screen.
In case it matters, I have CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 on the KF and the phone has stock Google Android 4.2.2 that came with the phone. All the apps are presumably the same, having been download from the Play Store.
Can anyone explain this difference? Thanks.

The phone's hardware was designed with 4.2.2 in mind and the Kindle was designed for a forked rendition of GB.

Then perhaps I do not understand what Android is. I was under the impression it was an OS with a defined API such that it would look (theming aside) and behave the same on different hardware (with obvious exceptions like not having bluetooth functionality on KF). Your statement would indicate that it is very heavily hardware dependent and that somehow app developers take into account the plethora of different hardware platforms and choose to behave in different manners on different devices. If this is the case, then it's an illogically designed system.

The browser thing I think can be explained. If you are zoomed in on a page, if you press the back button, it will zoom out to the whole page. The second tap of the back button takes you back to the previous page.
Does this help / make sense?

That would make sense if it was the same behavior on my phone. Thanks, though.

I think you're missing the point. The Kindle Fire was never made to run apps from the Google app store, and Google Play apps are rarely made for a modified Kindle Fire, running JB, and a custom kernel made from the ground up. Android is versatile, but it's not perfect. There are many apps that work well on some devices but not others. Looking at the reviews of any app in the Play store should be enough to convince you of that.

Why? Does the Android code really have such code as:
if (running_on_older_hardware)
{
make_all_apps_less_cool(); // because we only like newer hardware, even if it's possible for the older hardware to function
}
What little I know of OS design is that if you want your OS to be used aon a wide variety of hardware (which seems to be the design goal of Google in their relentless pursuit of world domination), the API should be as hardware independent as possible and that all hardware access should be done through the API. The very fact that (most) apps are written in Java and compiled to bytecode dictate that they have to use the API. Is the functionality difference because there is some sort of proprietary ROM that Android and certain apps know about that doesn't exist on the KF? And this ROM makes apps behave cooler?
Is it a memory issue? Does 4.2.2 expect to have a different memory/segmentation model? Or a different cache model? Or simply ungodly amounts more memory?
The only runtime software difference I could tell between my phone and my KF is that the per app memory limit on the KF is set to 256 MB whereas on the phone it is 512 MB.
Are there dynamic libraries/frameworks/apks on my phone that are not included in stock/CM10.1 4.2.2 that most apps are aware of and use? Can I copy them to the KF?
Thanks.

Proper communication between the API and the hardware is still dependent on the kernel. Considering your phone's kernel was likely produced by a team of paid programmers and the KF's 3.0.x kernel was made by maybe a small handful of people with most of the work done by one man, for FREE, I'm sure there is plenty of possibility for something not working as efficiently as it could.

And I truly do appreciate the hard work of the many hackers who put together kernels, boot loaders, recovery programs, apps, etc. I hope someday to join their ranks.
I was under the impression that there was a stock kernel as well as a stock OS and that the only real difference from one system to another was the boot procedure and the selection of drivers (with stubs or emulation for missing hardware/features). I take it that then this not the case.
Just curious if anyone is running Cyanogenmod (n5100) on their Note 8. couple quick questions....
1. Is it stable?
2. Anything not work? Any bugs?
3. People talk about the sPen stuff or whatever on the Note 8. Is it worth keeping the stock ROM for some of that Samsung stuff?

Only for the sPen and the double window thing. I dont care about the bloatware that comes included. In fact I just bought it for the sPen feature.

I donno what peeps here are calling bloat ware... Samsung apps are some the the finest available on Android. Google apps are just about needed for secondary apps and extras.
Out of the many apps I removed or disabled, I personally could not find much improvement with storage or RAM consumption.
The only issue that I found from an app is Googles Music Player, and 4.2.2 and earlier OS not able to fully categorize RAM used with over 45GB of MP3 files. I think it has to do with how many folders and mp3 files are stored. Any way Music Player will consume battery power not what peeps call bloat ware.
Too many developers and so called know it alls will point out bloat ware as an issue, when the issue is how things are configured and used.
I have tried custom ROMs and found nothing better than a properly setup Stock ROM. Sad to say for the Note 8.0.
If need be safe root and install TI backup pro and Xposed framework with plugins, to have the power of most custom ROMs and to remove all you want. If you need to send in for repair, just do a factory reset and be done with it. Simple and effective without need to jump though hoops in flashing and dealing with Triangle away and looking for proper OEM firmware. Plus you can always update through Kies or Settings as if nothing was touched. )
Sorry for the long rant, just tired of peeps pointing at bloatware being an issue with devices. The issue is proper implementation and usage. Take it from me, having an engineering degree in applied science in technology. I find it easier to pick at the problems people create than to deal with the limitations of pushing out new tech without proper testing. That is why I never applied for Google, MS, or many other big named companies. Samsung tablets seem to have less issues with what they load than many other competitors. Google may complain about customizations, but as long as they work that is all I care about. So many who do complain about bloatware are probably Google biased.

I put CM 11 on my note 8.0 n5110 (not the n5100) as I love CM11 on my note 2. However, although the CM 11 on my note 2 seems like a polished final product with no issues whatsoever (although it's only a nightly), definitely CM11 on my note 8.0 seemed like it was still a work in progress.
1. Yes, it is stable for everyday things.
2. Often (about once every other day) an app would disappear from the homepage. I would then have to put them back. I could not remove unwanted preinstalled apps from my homepage (like the camera app for example). Usually you would grab the app and bring it to the top of the screen and it would be removed. For some reason there was no way to remove them. Usually there is a simple way to "close all" the opened apps by going to the pull-down menu. This was missing my nightly.
3. The pen works perfectly on CM11. Of course, there is no "air gestures" like on stock. For me, I just use the spen as a pen: for drawing, sketching, and taking notes (like using my favorite app LectureNotes). For such things, the pen works fine. In my opinion, it's well worth getting CM11 --- besides for the things mentioned in 2 (and other small things) the note 8.0 runs amazingly smooth, like the dream tablet I always wanted.
BTW, later I moved to Omnirom on my note 8.0 and I'm still using it and I am liking Omnirom even better than CM11 (which in my personal opinion is much better than the stock rom).
Hello I just ordered one of these off eBay for $80 in excellent condition but I feel like I should've asked if sketchbook runs smooth enough on here? I know it's old hardware, but still better than Snapdragon 410 in Galaxy A tab. I wanted a small tablet with s pen (Wacom). I don't need it for anything else I have an iPhone 6s and i7 desktop and Skylake i3 laptop
what version JB 4.1.2 or 4.2.2? Hopefully you didn't get 4.4.2.
As of this month I finally got the best ever overall operation in 4.4.2. But it is not anywhere as perfect as 4.1.2 or 4.2.2
If by chance you have KK, you can either root and use a custom kernel or do the S Note fix to correct the spen pixel issue
It is easy to do, but any complain about it being trial and error. Once you get the knack, you'll wonder why you had such a problem in the first place.
I have the app in question along with Layer Paint HD, and Paper Artist. once you align your spen in KK, you won't have any issues with drawing apps.
There are custom ROMs that correct the spen issue but some still need work as they are not 100% fully functional as stock is.
Since I require perfect miracast functions, with minimal bugs with a nice layout. I was forced into manually selecting components from S5, Tab 4 and Note 2 stock ROMs, along with some ported system apps distributed by Devs. Some very few apps are from dead ROMs, where the Dev let rot away.
Yes you can run S5 apps in stock form, just need to root and run Xposed with app settings. Some apps require 320 or so DPI, and others may require 190 or 220. It is a trial and error, but they are stock, and with a build.prop mod, you can update them on Play or Galaxy.
I run the latest versions of Tab 4 version and S5 version of Peel Smart Remotes. As S5 has a better layout.
Some apps like Kids mode need a small tweak with a saved older sub app to run, though the lock screen widget interactions and gator animations are missing.
I run my N5110 as a T330 (Tab 4 8.0) in my build prop, 90% of the time, with out any issues with my apps. The remainder of my usage is in S5 form, as my Chrome Dev browser with Samsung's chrome customization system app, operates a wee better browsing on the Internet. Seems that the updated versions are not so device dependant in the build.prop requirements.
Hello thanks! Sounds good I don't have the device yet. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions. Hopefully it's not 4.4.2 like you said.
Okay sadly it has 4.4.2 Can yuu point me in the direction of the spen fix?
By the way I have SAMSUNG-SGH-I467 sounds like it's hard to root this device?
