So yesterday i tried to flash a new kernel (nova kernel) using cwm and after attempting to reboot, all i felt was a vibration and then nothing happened. Is my xperia s bricked? and if so is there anything i can do?
What works:
1. Able to hold power button and feel the single vibration; however, the screen remains blank after that.
2. Able to soft reset and hard reset but it does nothing
3. Able to connect to pc in flash/fastboot mode
4. Able to flash kernels and firmware (flashed full stock .55 and wiped everything, still no progress)
What doesn't work:
1. Screen will not turn on no matter what i do
2. Phone will not charge (no led, no screen)
3. CANNOT ENTER CWM!
Any help is appreciated.
Sounds almost like you're battery is dead toss it on the charger in a situation like this it can take up to 5 hours for the phone to boot.

that could be it...but i doubt it because when i flashed the kernel it was about 98% battery and i haven't been able to turn on the phone since. that plus i've left the phone charging for 8 hours last night, which ended again with no led and no screen...
i'll keep it plugged in though and see if anything happens
So does full ftf file with flashtool flash ok?

yeah, but after flashing i still can't boot. i can hold the power button and feel the vibration, but the screen remains off (no splash screen, no nothing)
Well I'm out of ideas ik a hard reset is suppose to be like taking out the battery but maybe it just needs to die

After you try to boot do you get any screen response? Like backlight or a quick blink. After turning on with no screen, does the pc recognize as usb drive or mtp device? I was just thinking maybe screen failure.

when i try to boot, i only get the one vibration that signals the phone has turned on (or in my case attempted to turn on). i can keep pressing and holding the power button multiple times consecutively and still get the same result. it's like the phone turns on and then shuts down immediately.
i only get led notifications when i connect to the computer in fastboot or flash mode, other than that i get nothing.
Try reading through this ion softbrick recovery thread. There are tricks in the OP that users reported work.

looked at that thread, nothing works. closest i came to something was plugging the phone into the wall for a while until the red led came on, but then it just turns off after 2-3 hours and i'm back to square one
Some have had to leave it plugged into charger for days. Then got green led, flashed and it started.
This is just one way these phones act goofy during soft brick. You just have to be patient, as all who have recovered have said.

Well great news phone is back and running great
I had it plugged in for about 18 hours then the Red light came on.
24+ hours later the Red light was off. So I tried to flash, nothing. It was just a wasted attempted and I nothing happened.
Plugged it back in, ~2 hours later the Green light came on and I could press Power to have the Battery Screen come on.
Flashed it and it worked! Thanks for the support!
I'm not sure why the Red light went off. I'm thinking maybe the cord was bumped and the charger wasn't plugged in all the way?

Maybe you should flash your xperia back to the stock ROM. You can do that using the official Sony flashtool: http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...ocked-xperia-smartphones-video-beta-download/ . Just watch the video and (hopefully) you will understand everything. After flashing back to stock ROM you can decide what you want to do with your phone afterwards
Hopefully this solves your problem!

i tried one of the posted solutions, but in doing so i find that i can't even enter into fastboot/flash mode anymore, and i can't soft or hard reset. i only get the solid red led now when plugging into anything (pc, charger) and the phone is unresponsive to any of the buttons.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836219
i have this exact same problem in this thread, the highlight being that the screen doesn't turn on at all, while others have been able to get to the sony logo.
it seems that everyone that has this exact problem has not gotten any solution yet.
I have exactly the same issue

SAT told me that the phone has been modificated and they didn¨t repair.
I think thas the phone doesnt charge the battery, and this may be the problema, who knows...I have a brink above my papers..

exactly, the other problem is that sus and pc companion both won't repair the phone because the bootloader is unlocked.
i've flashed the relock bootloader ftf and it still says the same thing which is weird.
UPDATE - 46 hours and still only the red led!
My Xperia Ion has unlocked bootloader and installed this kernel.
I have used the Font Installer and installed an incompatible font and the phone restarted after it and went into bootloop (only sony and xperia logos were showing and the phone was restarting all the time...)
The first thing I did was soft reset (up+power for 5 seconds) but nothing changed so i did hard reset and the phone got bricked after with no led and vibrations, unable to connect to pc...
I put it into wall charger over night but nothing changed only there is the red led flashing when connected to the charger/PC ( 5 seconds red led, then 20 seconds no led and again and again)
I have tried Flashtool, PPC, fastboot and all the button combinations while connected to PC but nothing works, the phone is completely dead...
Does anybody know how to fix this issue?
Can you dissemble it? If it is decemble it and disconnect battery cable from motherboard and re connect it. After that try to connect to flashtool and flash stock firmware.

im not able to flash .
Use flashtools to flash a stock ftf making sure you choose the wipe options. Do not exclude anything.

A hard bricked phone won't do any thing no matter what is done. If a light or anything reacts then you have some level of soft brick.
Use the rubber band trick to flash back to stock.
The solid red led means low level charging. Low level charge is on until the battery level is enough to start kernel charging (battery icon screen)
When the red led goes out but before the phone turns on is the tiny time frame you have to enter flash mode. So you use a rubber band to hold volume down.
Read about the trick in my recovery thread in my signature.

Long time ago I faced a same problem. My phone stuck at RED light. I just dissemble the phone and disconnect battery cable from motherboard and reconnect the cable. Then I hold power button and volume + button until 3 vibrate. (10 second). Now the phone is off. After that I connect phone to computer while holding volume down button and flash stock ftf.
Give it a try.

Yeah its STAR Screw. Approx 7-8 total adding both sides.
Im not gonna open it, anyways i'm giving the phone to service centre. i don't have time to wait for the battery to charge / Drain or anything.
Hope they can fix this in matter of hours.
For future reference, you will need a torx t6 ( or t5 cant remember exactly) for the star screws. The ion is easy to take apart, hope they fix yours.

I have this xperia ion which was running ICS smoothly till morning. I kept it using till the battery drained completely. After keeping it on charge for about 20 minutes when it failed to turn on. I searched the internet. It said
- I need to charge it for a long time till the green led flashes up.
-Might be soft bricked
Whenever I try to turn it on it vibrates and then nothing happens. A blank screen comes up with no logo( Xperia or Sony).
I tried updating it JB but only in vain. now it only shows the blank screen.
What to do? I found no answers to this.

Yea i did tried with original ones and then when they gave nothing i tried with generic ones
Does this happen to someone else? Lately it's happening all the time to me. After leaving the phone overnight connected to the charger, in the morning I disconnect it and the green light remains on and it annoys the crap out of me. The only way to make it turn off after it gets stuck is rebooth the phone or wait a few minutes, connect the charger again and then disconnect it, and most of the time it finally fades out.
I'm on stock .96 with some mods installed (root, cwm, honami framework, new home, rest is stock), but it happened when I was fully stock as well.
I got the same bug.
Root and cwm installed

yea randomly, just plug the charger back in and out

It's a kernel bug.
From what I observed the green led will stay if the charger is not disconnected after fully charged (100%). I've tried several times that to disconnect the charger immediately at 100% the green led never stays on.
So it's definitely a bug. It was also present in .200.
I hope Sony will adress it at some point with a final firmware update for our beloved XP S.
Yea, happens to me, stock, without modding

Til today the only way to turn it off is by restarting it...
