[Q] Bricked Xperia S?

So yesterday i tried to flash a new kernel (nova kernel) using cwm and after attempting to reboot, all i felt was a vibration and then nothing happened. Is my xperia s bricked? and if so is there anything i can do?
What works:
1. Able to hold power button and feel the single vibration; however, the screen remains blank after that.
2. Able to soft reset and hard reset but it does nothing
3. Able to connect to pc in flash/fastboot mode
4. Able to flash kernels and firmware (flashed full stock .55 and wiped everything, still no progress)
What doesn't work:
1. Screen will not turn on no matter what i do
2. Phone will not charge (no led, no screen)
3. CANNOT ENTER CWM!
Any help is appreciated.

Sounds almost like you're battery is dead toss it on the charger in a situation like this it can take up to 5 hours for the phone to boot.

that could be it...but i doubt it because when i flashed the kernel it was about 98% battery and i haven't been able to turn on the phone since. that plus i've left the phone charging for 8 hours last night, which ended again with no led and no screen...
i'll keep it plugged in though and see if anything happens

So does full ftf file with flashtool flash ok?

yeah, but after flashing i still can't boot. i can hold the power button and feel the vibration, but the screen remains off (no splash screen, no nothing)

Well I'm out of ideas ik a hard reset is suppose to be like taking out the battery but maybe it just needs to die

After you try to boot do you get any screen response? Like backlight or a quick blink. After turning on with no screen, does the pc recognize as usb drive or mtp device? I was just thinking maybe screen failure.

when i try to boot, i only get the one vibration that signals the phone has turned on (or in my case attempted to turn on). i can keep pressing and holding the power button multiple times consecutively and still get the same result. it's like the phone turns on and then shuts down immediately.
i only get led notifications when i connect to the computer in fastboot or flash mode, other than that i get nothing.

Try reading through this ion softbrick recovery thread. There are tricks in the OP that users reported work.

looked at that thread, nothing works. closest i came to something was plugging the phone into the wall for a while until the red led came on, but then it just turns off after 2-3 hours and i'm back to square one

Some have had to leave it plugged into charger for days. Then got green led, flashed and it started.
This is just one way these phones act goofy during soft brick. You just have to be patient, as all who have recovered have said.

24+ hours later the Red light was off. So I tried to flash, nothing. It was just a wasted attempted and I nothing happened.
Plugged it back in, ~2 hours later the Green light came on and I could press Power to have the Battery Screen come on.
Flashed it and it worked! Thanks for the support!
I'm not sure why the Red light went off. I'm thinking maybe the cord was bumped and the charger wasn't plugged in all the way?

that's crazy,,,i don't think i'll have the patience to do that lol...
i've left it in for 13 hours, but still only the red led though. i'll keep it going and see what happens though

Maybe you should flash your xperia back to the stock ROM. You can do that using the official Sony flashtool: http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...ocked-xperia-smartphones-video-beta-download/ . Just watch the video and (hopefully) you will understand everything. After flashing back to stock ROM you can decide what you want to do with your phone afterwards

as stated in the op, i've already attempted this with no luck. it flashes but it won't boot, the screen won't even light up let alone show a sony logo

update - 19 hours so far...still only the red led!
really hope i don't have a $400 paperweight now...

I know this is difficult, but I have never read of anyone NOT recovering their phone.
If it helps their are others in similar situations

i tried one of the posted solutions, but in doing so i find that i can't even enter into fastboot/flash mode anymore, and i can't soft or hard reset. i only get the solid red led now when plugging into anything (pc, charger) and the phone is unresponsive to any of the buttons.

i have this exact same problem in this thread, the highlight being that the screen doesn't turn on at all, while others have been able to get to the sony logo.
it seems that everyone that has this exact problem has not gotten any solution yet.

SAT told me that the phone has been modificated and they didn¨t repair.
I think thas the phone doesnt charge the battery, and this may be the problema, who knows...I have a brink above my papers..

exactly, the other problem is that sus and pc companion both won't repair the phone because the bootloader is unlocked.
i've flashed the relock bootloader ftf and it still says the same thing which is weird.
UPDATE - 46 hours and still only the red led!

Xperia play vibrates but doesnt turn on?!?!

So I've had my Xperia Play (R800i) for almost a year now. It was working perfectly fine like any other day, then i didn't charge it one night. So now, it doesn't turn on at all. I hold down the power button, it vibrates, like it always does to tell me its turning on.. But nothing! Nothing comes up, the screen just stays blank like its turned off. My first thought is to take out the battery and put it back in but nothing. I try countless times, but still the end result, was a blank phone. When i put it on charge (before i hold the power button), nothing happens, then after a few seconds the LED charging light turns on, it was orange or red, i cant remember, so i left it like that. Came back a few hours later, the light was green, but still nothing happens when i try turn it on, except that little pitiful vibrate i get every time. I did leave my phone off by itself for a bit and still the same result. Yes my phone was rooted but i did this way back before this happened. So please help me, i beg of you.

HI, i had the same problem w/ my xperia play. it does nut turns on but vibrates.
i followed few tutorials to flash, but when flashtool say flashing finished i tried to turn on the phone. it does NOT turns on and a red light keep blinking at the top. whats dat???? plz help...

Do you guys have full battery or did you accept any ota updates?

I had this problem, and if you flash a JB kernel, you will see that the screen will show up, so the problem is that ALS chip doesn't work anymore, so you have to replace it, in ebay there are a ton of them. I thought it was a water damage in my case and i broke it, so won't boot up anymore.

This might be off topic but i LOL'd a bit there. I know he is just trying to help and I also get your point but it made me giggle when i read your post like "wtf bro why do you always have the same answer in every black screen thread." I don't know, maybe I'm just nuts. LOL!
Anyway, back to topic, We have the same situation. Black screen and just vibrates when you switch it on. It's been 4 days since my phone died on me. I really missed my Xperia Play now. But as fma965 said on the other Q&A thread, it might be the flex cable. Good luck and I hope you can fix your phone. Not unlike me, my only option is to buy a new one.

Bricked Ion - any gurus able to help?

So, been rooting, fiddling, installing ROMs, etc for a couple years. By no means am I an expert, I can just do research and read. I've had bootloops, and crashes, and all the same issues everyone else on this forum has had over the course of learning this stuff. So, when my phone wouldn't boot up even into recovery, I didn't sweat it at first. But, well, I've tried everything and nothing works. I can't boot, I can't charge it. Nothing works.
So, here's the breakdown.
Lt28i
Was running stock
Phone was rooted
CWM recovery
Bootloader is unlockable via regular means.
Hated it since a recent update. Phone was slow and i wanted JB. So i started the process.
I installed a new kernel, was in the process of installing a new ROM, but the instructions said to delete /system. I did.
From that point on, phone would not boot. Would not charge and would not get into recovery.
I can't connect via adb/fastboot.
It's a brick sitting on my desk. I've since gotten an HTC one, which IS AWESOME guys, but I hate having a perfectly fine piece of hardware just sitting on my desk collecting dust, (not to mention hate admitting defeat) so I'd like to get it working and either give it to a friend or sell it. Can anyone help.
Symptoms. As soon as i plug it in, the red light goes on. After about 15 minutes, the sony logo comes on with the red light off for just under 10 mins or so, then black screen and red light on. So, it's in a kernel boot-loop of sorts, but never gets past it and therefore doesn't charge. I've left it unattanded for over a week to drain the battery, hoping it'll reset, but no change. Immediately the red light goes on when plugged in. No way to boot into recovery. No way to connect to fastboot.
Any ideas?

So your bootloader is locked?
You can't flash any custom kernel on locked bl.
First, connect your phone to a wall charger for whole night.
Then use Update Service or PCC to repair it.
Remember: do not connect your phone to PC until it ask you to do so.
Press vol down when connecting to PC.

sorry, my mistake. The plan was to flash a kernel, but i never got around to it. I had looked into unlocking the bootloader, but wanted to see if I could get any good JB roms first. Sorry about that false info.
I have both let the phone die completely, or so I think, unless it keeps its charge for over a week and charged it for about 40 hours. Like I said, it does the bootloader boot loop which seems to keep it from charging. I never get to the screen where it shows the charging icon, so I can't tell, but I've definitely left it on a charger (not PC) for at least a day and a half. No go.No amount of pressing vol down works.

Yes, Unless your device is hard bricked meaning it wont show any led or wont do anything basically

Well, that's why I'm hopeful, cause the led does light up immediately on plugin. And the Sony logo screen shows up for a few minutes, then disappears. I have tried flashtool, but it won't connect. No go.

Your either using flash tool wrong (Hold the down button while plugging in the usb to go in flashmode and then flash the ftf quick before flashmode restarts of being idle) The Sony logo is still there so there should be no reason to send it in until all possible repair techniques have been used

Well, I've used flashtool a whole bunch of times. Sure from time to time there's an issue with it, but I've tried different versions and none has been successful. And I'm very familiar with the "getting into flashmode" process. And yes, I would agree with you that if the sony logo shows up, then there's gotta be a way, but I'm telling you, it's just not happening. I've tried 100 times.

Does Flashtool show anything after you connect your phone to PC with flashmode?
"Drivers have to be installed" or somethimg?

If you can see the Sony Logo then it has to work, Hold the down key, while plugging it in and it will show a green led... I had the same problem as you (cause I do things that sony may not like, on my phone)
1. Make sure you have the correct drivers installed.
2. Turn your phone off and unplug USB cord.
3. Hold the VOLUME DOWN button while inserting the USB cord.
4. You should see your small notification light in the top right of the phone turn green.

Ya, first of all. I can neither turn the phone on or off. I have no control of it. It "turns on" when it wants and off when it wants. But when i say turns on, it only turn onto the sony logo screen after about 20 mins of being plugged in, when I guess the charge is just enough to allow it to start the boot process. Then the sony logo screen turns on, until that tiny charge dies and the phone turns off and the red LED comes on. Process repeats over and over again. I even put a rubber band on the phone to keep the volume down button pressed so that when the charge does reach the right level for the boot process that the vol down button will trigger recovery, but no deal. If this is the only way to get this thing working, is what you've recommended above, then phone is completely bricked, cause the phone has been like this for 2 weeks and nothing has worked. I know i have the drivers, cause up until this issue, flashtool worked fine. But the PC doesn't even recognize that there's a device plugged in at all now, cause the phone never boots. So, it's like plugging in a usb HDD that is off. I didn't really expect anyone to have a solution, cause i've done extensive research and tried almost everything I've read that seemed relevant, but I still had hope. I suspect the only way to fix it is to open it and connect directly to the mobo in some other way, but i don't have the tools or resources for that. Not even sure I can send it in to be repaired cause it's rooted. Unless someone has a eureka solution, my only option is to send it in to a 3rd party repair guy. Any other thoughts?

The most important thing is: what have you done to your phone before?
Flash something or edit something?
To turn off your phone, long press power + vol up until 3 vibrations.
Then connect your phone to a wallcharger for whole night.
(Do not use PC cable... It won't charge much...)
Then flash stock ftf via Flashtool.

Just read my first 2 posts in the recovery thread sticky'd in the general section.
Then reinstall ALL drivers available in flashtool.
Then use the rubber band trick from my thread. Make sure that the rubber band pushes the button in.
Sit back and wait ,believe me this is the hardest step.

I laughed at the method simplicity, and got amazed on how effective is it.

So when you connect the phone to your PC while holding the volume down key...no green light, and its not recognized by your PC at all, right? Assuming you're using windows; does windows try to install any drivers or anything? Are you prompted in any way that a device has been connected?
and did you try the above mentioned? Hold UP and power button for like 10 seconds...you'll feel it vibrate once...then a few seconds later it should vibrate 3 times...I bricked my phone to some degree Sunday...only I had no response whatsoever...no led while charging, or otherwise...and literally no response from anything...until i tried that vibrate 3 times thing...and it booted right up after...

NO GO!
Well, I've tried it all. @ToledoJab I've read and reread that original post a bunch of times. followed all instructions, in fact, I had read that post many times before even posting in this forum with no luck, but I thought I'd be patient and try again, Used the rubber band technique. Nothing. Seems, when the rubber band is used, the phone doesn't even start the boot process, meaning never shows the sony logo screen.
@jtr what no one seems to understand is, there is absolutely no response to using the power button to turn this on or off. No vibrate, nothing. There are only 2 states. 1. When plugged into wall or PC, LED is red and after 20 mins Sony logo shows up if the vol down button isn't pressed. 2. When not plugged in no led.
Flashtool has been open for 2 days, phone has been plugged in, with rubber band. Drivers installed. Phone is never recognized because it never turns on. it's in perpetual red light on mode.
I don't know guys. I'd say this is an official brick. Not sure there's any way to fix this without opening it up. Still open to any ideas, but please read what I've posted because all the recommendations so far have been things I've already said I've tried, and numerous times. I can't imagine there's anything else to try, but thought I'd update you guys nonetheless.

If the volume down key is preventing it from going into that boot loop, though...it seems to be responding to physical input to some degree...
Have you tried any of this without a sim card? I know that sounds trivial, but after a full week of messing with mine a fresh sim-less start knocked out several bugs...and i hadn't read much of that on xda, but the AT&T return directions suggested a without sim boot up as the first thing to do? and at the time, i too, was dealing with some sort of varying degree of brick.
There are also varying ways to drain a permanent phone battery...i wouldn't say thats the best way to go about this, but a friend of mine has a screwed up car charger that does exactly this...which he's kept to bring his samsung nexus out of hard bricks multiple times...i'd say that's definitely a last resort though...the stuff you'd need would only be a couple bucks at radio shack i'd imagine haha.

If you get the Sony screen you should get in to flash mode, and I say should.
With the phone plugged in to PC with flashtool ready to flash, try to do a one vibration reset at Sony screen then immediately press and hold volume down.

Xperia S Sudden Death!!

Recently I again unlocked my bootloader, installed an advanced stock kernel, than thorugh the same kernel i installed the Doomlords kernel. (battery was about 50%)
after installation phone automatically booted to CWM, i simply rebooted it.
then it got stuck for about a minute at the boot logo (DOOMLORDS) after that it switched off.
tried to start it again, it didnt.
tried to reset it via power and volume Up still failed to..
I thought may be its stuck, removed battery for while and installed again.. still nothing happened..
PC doesnt detect it
Afterwards i put it on up a wall charger, for its 3-4 hours no LED but suddenly after that it gave me a orange light, i thought may be it will be ok now .. tried to start gain but failed....
put again on a wall charger for a day still orange light.. PC still not detecting it... cant turn it on or hard reset..
Please any suggestions..

Does it show anything at all or is it blank
if not
hold a rubberband holding power and volume up for about 10-60mins
and try flashing something via flashtool

or use a rubber band
then flash a stock ftf
if you dont have any then google XDA file server (top link), should be able to find more than needed there

[Q] At-t Xperia Ion LT28at - Soft or hard brick????

So heres the story .... i backed up my phone 2 days ago just incase lol . i installed CWM for xperia ion just incase aswell before i installed an app so i can change my fonts and boot animation on my xperia ion. I downloaded and use "Rom Toolbox Pro" and from their on i use the "Boot Animations" app to change the original At&t startup to the Razr M bootup. and after i restarted it , it worked just fine. Then after i went back to the app and went to the Font installer i backed it up as well as my boot animation. I installed a certain font i think it was " " after i restarted the phone , again, it worked perfectly fine , then after a couple uses of the font i got tired of it so i went and hit restore , i didnt know what i was really doing from their. a menu popped up with all these things checked so i went ahead and clicked ok, and it said to restart , so then i did. After it was restarting , upon booting up it would just shutoff or shutdown or do this fading away power off thing as it finished the boot animation. After the third time i did the " soft reset trick" and it still happened again, but by mistakenly doing a ":hard reset trick" it just completely vibrated 3 times instead of 1 not realizing and it shutoff. nothing was happened i pressed a few buttons but it still didnt budge. and i read online that to let it die while plugged in to the factory WALL charger. so then i did that.......after a few 15-16 hrs i had a constant red LED light come on and then after another few 2-3 hours there was this red LED blinking i guess? it was as if it was trying to turn on or something. but all i saw was the screen come one but nothing showing and the LED staying on for a few then going out .....so as of right now it stopped doing that. and its now at a constant RED LED LIGHT nothing else. i dont what else to do. i have my Flashtool already good to go with the stock f/w ready to wipe data /cache and everything i guess.
and what did i do that ruined the phone?
How long should it take?
will it change led colors so i can flash it?
so what do i do for now?

So heres the story .... i backed up my phone 2 days ago just incase lol . i installed CWM for xperia ion just incase aswell before i installed an app so i can change my fonts and boot animation on my xperia ion. I downloaded and use "Rom Toolbox Pro" and from their on i use the "Boot Animations" app to change the original At&t startup to the Razr M bootup. and after i restarted it , it worked just fine. Then after i went back to the app and went to the Font installer i backed it up as well as my boot animation. I installed a certain font i think it was " " after i restarted the phone , again, it worked perfectly fine , then after a couple uses of the font i got tired of it so i went and hit restore , i didnt know what i was really doing from their. a menu popped up with all these things checked so i went ahead and clicked ok, and it said to restart , so then i did. I have tried a few times but it still hasnt detected the phone in flash or fast mode. app
it would either , when i unplug the phone from the charger and plug it in to my computer it would just do that blinking LED action like it did last time and keep doing that for a few minutes and then back to red LED constant light.
so my issue i think is a bootloop by using that app. and idk how else to fix this.

Oh at the the 1st vibration , i tapped the sony logo 10 times entered CWM and i think i hit reboot recovery and everything went bad i guess....no i cant at the moment it wont let me , its just a constant red light , nothing else./

what's your method to flash? details. when you are pluginng the phone, pc sound for device connected? and balloon in taskbar? messages in flashtool when you connect or disconnect the phone? tell everything.

My method would be having to put the phone in "flashmode" using "flashtool" via when the LED changes to green and thus connecting my phone in and holding down the volume down button.
their is no red led light anymore.......and its plugged into the factory wall charger....... theres nothing on my screen on my laptop , no sound, no pop up , nothing. I have flashtool ready and its awaiting for the device to be connected but sadly i dont even know if its charging or not its stuck i guess with no led or screen up..... its been a day since i left it charging and it had a red consant led idk whats going on now .so idk what to do as of now

like i havent disconnected it , its still on the charger since yesterday, but it had a red led that was constant, and i have flashtool ready on my laptop just incase but as of now the led is gone no colors are displayin gon the led, and im hoping soon after the chips reset i guess, after a few days i let the battery die, i will see an led or somethin.

what phone is doing when you press the power button? vibrations? how much? is it getting getting into FASTBOOT? not FLASHMODE. are you entering into FASTBOOT mode by manual method? by pressing the volume up button while plugging usb in?

i dont think i should do anything to it right now ,theres no screen but its still plugged into the charger and theres no led anymore........
before when i pressed the power button i would see a red led and then it look like it tried to start , the screen came on but it was pitch black and then it stopped and what it seemed to be that it restarted and it kept doing that. i only did the soft reset where i jheld the power and volume button and it vibrated 1 time. , it didnt even scan the phone or detect as i connected it to my computer, i can only do the flash mode method only. manually i guess......

ok so as of RIGHT NOW there is no led anymore..........it had a red led on it since yesterday until i woke up today at 8 am there was no led at all and i didnt try anything

i have flashtool ready up on my screen just incase when the led changes to green i can use flashmode. but i mean i dont want to disconnect it from the charger, im not sure if its still charging or not , theres no led. and im scared if i plug it into my laptop it will have a red led and i would have to wait longer for it to go away or something.
