Wanted to report for all UMS lovers , USB mass storage mode is working for note 3 .
Requirement - Compulsion kernel V 8 @jovy23 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2480353
Any UMS app.
This app only mounts the external sd.
This is the only kernel so far that supports UMS mode for note 3.
Just tested USB mass storage mode..
VOila ... it works .... So excited,
It does mount the extsd as a drive in PC
This is so awesome.... This is the first kernel to have this working.... Cheers..
For those interested , u have to install an UMS app. The one that I use is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mohammadag.samsungusbmassstorageenabler
Congrats and thanks @jovy23 on this great work

Try to install theDrivedroid app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.softwarebakery.drivedroid&hl=en) and do the setup. This somehow makes it work.
Let me know
I got it. I was on ver. 7.0 of the above kernal. I think drivedroid app also helped. Big thanks!!
CD-ROM emulation with DriveDroid?
Has anyone succeeded using DriveDroid to emulate a virtual CD-ROM?
For me, only USB drive works, but when I switch to CD, I just get an empty disk.
Also, the MTP Application notification starts resetting like if I was connecting and disconnecting the cable continously.
Any thoughts?
Compulsion kernel is now V9.
Does anyone know if UMS possible with that V9 ?

Sadly I'll never up grade again due to this this is so the opposite of android locking sh!t down why don't u allow me to plug my phone in to my pc n move files back n fourth from my phone so.now I gotta take my 16gb card copy it to my pc then on to the internal memory how annoying what's the big deal
Will this be in all future updates? This is the last thing I'd expect from the boyz in green opposite of what the open market movement represents

Mine too. I upgraded to 4.4.2 on the day it rolled out, but I just tried it last night to plug it into my PC. When I did the folder popped up, and I had two choices. SD Card and Phone. I was able to click on each one and move/change/delete/add any file/folder to and from SD Card to Phone to PC. Everything works great.
Mass storage also on SM-N9005

Is this going to work on international version of Note 3 (SM-N9005)? Or do you know which kernel version should I use for my phone, so I get the mass storage support? I just don't want to brick my phone.
Will this work with exynos SM-N900 galaxy note 3?
help please

I need to access the Mass Storage because I lost the pictures (important ones) because I forgot to Nandroid backup. I just backed up using Titanium Backup. I thought the pictures are included in the backup (noob here) but they weren't. Any tips on how to solve my problem guys? I badly need your help. Thanks in advance!

First of all I admit that I am a noob in the android OS world
got 8GB sd card for my S5360, it keeps giving me this message: "Sd card removed unexpectedly", and rescans the SD which makes my device slow.
methods tried but didn't work:
1- reformatted the SD card via PC fat32 and FAT
2- reformatted the SD via linux and then via my phone
3- Sd boosting programs (most of them).
4- installed custom roms and mods
( HYBRID 4.0 , Creeds' ɷ Fusion v3.2, Repencis v3)
5-tried to repartition my SD.
guys all the methods above didn't work and I am about to smash my mobile phone ( though I am pretty poor) but my nerves are squeecking now

Also doky73 thread has 2-3 firmwares for the same region try flashing them all.. I think it's a definite rom issue

that's not really needed. if you turn off your device, the value will back to its original value. if you want to make it permanent you'll need a kernel with init.d support. you can make a script in init.d which contain
Code:
#!/system/bin/ah
echo "2048" > /sys/device/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb

As a last resort you could install a ROM or "return to stock" Rom; or you could factory reset. But hopefully some dev has an apk for the piece you're missing. Since your rooted though you could use a Samba fileshare app which would even move files over WiFi. Beats the hell out of the media transfer protocol that came with the phone. I don't know who at samsung thought we would not want to have thumbnail view in our photo folders but they should be beaten, then lectured by their mother, then beaten again.

Jelly bean doesn't have UMS in it at all, so most future phones won't support it, similar to tablets and some of the phones that just came out with ICS.

if you get a Siyah Kernel, which supports the SIII now, you might be able to mount the phone while in Recovery mode. I upgraded my SII to JB and found out it cant support UMS but remembered Siyah has a it as an option in recovery. give it a try?
Siyah isn't for this phone.. It's for the international version.

For your specific problem: if nothing works do factory reset/data wipe, and then non-trip flash of rooted stock.

I know d3ath, I don't think he meant actual UMS because this phone has never had UMS. But I got the spirit of his message and gave him an answer for what he meant.
my issue resolved itself when I flashed the latest JB leak odexed version from Team Insomnia -- attached the phone to the laptop, reloaded the drivers and works as mass storage once again

OK, I'm in a bit of a pickle and am hoping that someone with more knowledge can help me out. This is what I did.
Rooted the phone
Installed FreeGee
Installed TWRP through FreeGee
Copied a new rom to SD card
Entered TWRP and ERASED EVERYTHING BEFORE MAKING A BACKUP
Couldn't load rom from SD card
When navigating through the TWRP directory, there is a folder titled SD card. I thought my ROM would be in there, but it is not. I know I should have done two things that I didn't.
Backup my data
Copy the ROM to root folder like the instructions said to,
But I didn't do those thing. Now, I have a phone that will enter TWRP, but I cannot get it to find any ROMs I put on the SD card. Is there anything I can do to remedy this situation that I have caused?
Thanks an advance for your ideas.
Try connecting the phone to your computer and manually copying over another ROM.
If you didn't copy it to external card, and you wiped internal, then you don't have an operating system and need to use LG flashtool to get back to stock.

The TWRP that I am using was the one click install from FreeGee. It looks like this is not the hacked TWRP. When going up as many levels as I can, this is what I get. For future reference, do you know where I can get the hacked TWRP?
Current Progress - In the process of downloading LGE980AT-01-V10g-310-410-APR-03-2013.zip to use with LG Flashtools. Not the fastest server, but am very thankful that someone is hosting this file.

When I do that, I can only choose internal storage. I'm guessing that's one of the reasons there is a hacked TWRP.

IIRC, the hacked TWRP is merely to ensure that the Official CM builds (which are marked for e986 only) can be installed on any LGOG Pro phone. You should still be able to see the external SD even with the FreeGee TWRP. Try fooling around in TWRP a little bit and see if you can get it to recognize the external SD.
Fixed It
Well, I tried looked throughout TWRP and could not find a resolution.
What did work was LGFlashTool and madmacks awesome instructions. Thanks everyone for your ideas.

OK, next time, if you forget to backup before you flash, boot your phone into TWRP recovery, select mounts and then mount usb storage, connect your phone to the PC and you should see in "my computer" the phone as a drive, copy the ROM you want to flash to that drive, if it is a CM ROM remember to copy the Gapps also. Disconnect from the PC and then continue with the ROM flashing procedure that we all are so familiar with. This way it saves you the trouble of having to go back to stock again in order to flash a custom ROM.
Glad you got it fixed.
Erik

Fixing TB is a different issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/fix-titanium-backup-backup-failed-t335208
Following the instructions in Post #3 fixed my TB on MM T710
After googling i fixed TB by converting it to system app.
After installing this (on a rooted stock ROM T710) should I be able to download Kodi content to the external SD card?
I've tested it, but it doesn't seem to work.
Thanks.

I can write on my SD just fine.. the issue I'm having now is titanium backup is telling me there's not enough storage and it was actually working about 4 hours ago and it's not working now the only different things that I've done is install Xposed. I read on this forum that if I make it a system app it should work but that's still not working... can anybody give me some input on how to get Titanium Backup working please?
