So....
In September I bought a month old used HTC One from someone on CG. Phone has been rock solid. No real issues, but I always had people on the other end complaining they could not hear me well.
Recently people on the other end cannot hear me at all, just static and only through the handset, works via bt and speakerphone. Thinking it was the RIL issue, I got a new SIM and nothing, restored to stock and wiped using factory recovery as @santod040 suggested and nothing. So I did what I would always do, relock the device, put it back to S-ON.
Well at this point I don't care, the HTC One has been on the VZW network less than a year. Who cares where I bought it from it should be under warranty. Well I guess Verizon is not ATT and HTC is not Apple. I said nothing, simply phone is unusable, already did all the stuff like factory resets and the such. Put in a warranty claim and done. Have done it before on VZW. They text me this morning that the phone is not under warranty because its a customer supplied device. I call and *****., they do not take. Tell me take it up with HTC. HTC turns and says its a software issue and it is known. We are working on an update. If you want a replacement talk to your carrier.
Call Verizon back and nothing. At this point I am livid. Does anyone know if there is anything else I can do? Honestly, my contract is up in 11 days and i have been contemplating leaving vzw for a while... maybe this is just the nail in the coffin...
Any suggestions appreciated. As an fyi, i found a couple of threads on the ATT side of the one where ATT did honor the warranty. F$#%ing verizon.... Rocking my old GNex in the meantime.

Have you tried to get a square trade warranty? Its something to look at when buying used phones. Verizon won't honor warranty on your phone since you did not get it through them. HTC should be the one that should replace your faulty device with a refurbished model. I would call back HTC and ask that you speak to a supervisor.
My Verizon store always has been friendly when I walked in with a new phone and needed it activated to replace the old one. The device usually has a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer.
HTC is the one who needs to replace the phone. You didn't buy it from VZW so they are playing their games. You are correct, HTC customer service is awful compared to Apple. All I can suggest is call HTC and explain that you can't wait for an update, you need your phone replaced now since it's less than a year old and still under warranty.

I agree Josh. But HTC is toeing the line that the warrantee is on the original owner not the device. So they are saying the same thing. Sucks to be you. I will call again and ask for a manager. Be clear that I have been loyal HTC owner. Have owned 2 incredibles and a rezound.

Yeah it should not matter how many owners. As long as it's still within the 1 year warranty period it should be honored. I would keep calling and demand nicely that you would like to speak to a supervisor.

Verizon is just too big to care, they would be happy to get him on the edge plan and subsidize him another phone. If you do not have unlimited data through Verizon I would just look to get this fixed as soon as possible and probably switch. Only reason I still am with them, without a contract is because I was grandfathered into the unlimited data.

Like you I am grandfathered to unlimited data... That's the reason I bought the HTC off market. Honestly I am ready to buy a Nexus 5 and go to ATT., wish TMo had better service by me.
@mmuzzy, let me tell you I loved your stuff on the GNex(toro). I made it clear to them, honor the guarantee or run the risk of losing me in 11 days. It's obvious they do not care, I said as much and made it clear, if they don't care why should I. I'm the one losing the 350 i paid for this phone in Sept.
I will try HTC once more, give it the old college try...

I called back a few minutes ago and got HTC to honor it... I have to pay to send back and it will probably take a couple of weeks, but they are honoring it. so hopefully this will be for the better.
I'll post on the process.
Nice, glad you got them to fix it up. That's why I'm gonna keep my DNA as backup when the one gets rooted cuz without root the phone is not getting used.

FYI for future reference, I usually buy a phone on a credit card like American Express because they give you one extra year warranty and if there are any issues (like the one you mentioned), then they give you a full refund on the original purchase price. Like what other people said, try using the after market warranty...that will be your best bet at this point.

Just to clarify something....did you run the ruu? I see return to stock but not ruu specifically.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I swear, this is the exact post I would have wrote about a month ago. Out of the blue, I got a call and the person on the other end couldn't hear me very well, but the speaker phone worked fine. I also purchased mine used, so knew the warranty risks going in.
First, I took some canned air and blew out the little hole at the bottom of the phone, and into the speaker grills. I'm sure that you need to be careful doing this to avoid breaking anything. I also noticed that my speakers sounded like they were blown too, so I used an old trick I've used on other phones that seems to have fixed mine. The blown speaker sound is usually caused my tiny little metal/magnetic particles that accumulate on the speaker. I take a magnet from an old hard drive, and crank up the music and wipe the magnet over the speaker holes for a while, moving in all different directions. The vibrations from the music dislodge the particles, and the magnet picks them up.
So far so good, and I haven't had any issues since.
Good to know that HTC will honor the warranty on a second party phone.

Just a quick update. Finally heard back from HTC and they have shipped back the phone. It took forever because of the terrible northeast weather, sent it to them UPS Second Day using my corporate account. They are sending it back Fed Ex Ground. According to the girl, I am getting the same phone with a new Camera and new Microphones. So it was a hardware issue all along.
Hopefully they don't update it past the .15 so I can S-OFF and Unlock the moment I get it.

Certainly that can't be right.
Nevertheless, I have to say my experience getting my bricked phone (my fault entirely) replaced throught the ATT warranty dept went very well.
They even included overnight shipping, didn't require me to ship mine back 1st and included a return shipping label for my crapped out phone. I made the claim Friday and received my new phone Monday 11 am.
Well done ATT.
Congratulations!
What can you advise me to do with my bricked phone? I bought my phone from eBay and I live in Israel. I think that will not be able to replace my phone for a new one. Only if I'll send it directly to LG. But will there be something to do?

I think this particular ATT Rep was smoking salmon...I have returned 2 already due to warranty stuff and will probably be selling the next replacement I get...the rep at my local store wasn't overly enthused with the phone and said that was the consensus.
On a lighter note they were very helpful with getting this taken care of and doing so very quickly...

I don't have AT&T so despite living in the USA, I sent my phone directly to LG. (I use an AT&T MVNO, so I don't get support from AT&T) LG repaired it free of charge and mailed it back. So I guess LG does something right.

what's been the issue(s) with your phones?
Generally, I tend to find local store rep's opinions to be, well, less than they should be. After using this phone for 2+ months I'm unsure why a local store rep would not communicate the benefits of this device as opposed to their lack of enthusiasm for it.
I don't think the phone is so bad...I think there are lots of great things about it. I love the screen, it has the potential to be so quick and snappy and really could be an all around awesome phone...I just realized the fact that updates were going to be a little slower towards this phone and it seemed like making any slight mod (firmware/rom wise) would work but had a much higher failure rate than I think anyone was looking for-hence my looking to move on...
The specific issues with my phone were a short or something that just hard bricked the phone without warning and without any mods...at all. It just turned off one day and nothing could ever, every be done to get it back on. Strange.... the second phone has never been quite right after installing a rom and the boot loops and not being able to reboot was kind of a turn off. Plus the speaker in the earpiece has been a bit wonky so I decided to do a warranty return and then move on from there.
And you're right...some of the reps seem to be way off from what's realistic...you can tell they definitely play favorites and seem to be very partial and unsupportive. But at least they were helpful!

Exchanging in a store during your 30 day buyers remorse period is different than exchanging through warranty. You might have exchanged it several times in store, but to AT&T's warranty department, this is the first time. They keep track of how many warranty claims you make, once you get to a certain point they usually allow you to try something different.
As for AT&T store reps, many of them base their opinions on phones on popularity, return rate, etc. The Nitro/Optimus LTE is an awesome phone, but it isn't very popular saleswise.

One problem - I live in Israel, and in my country this device is officially not for sale. So I do not know how and where to call and send the device. I have no idea what to do.
AT&T reps were trained to lie to customers. I had to turn in my SGS2 twice for exchange, and both times I was told I was the first to exchange the SGS2.

So now im looking into getting one without the issue from verizon, how does their warranty policy work? Do their phone come with 1 year warranty? will their give me crap if i say i got it from a friend and dont have a receipt?
Call. If you are paying for insurance on your line they may be willing to work something out. But you have to call.
They have been really nice to me... a first from Verizon. When I had a Droid X, I sent it back four times because of a KNOWN issue that they refused to acknowledge... that stupid red eyeball then locking up and not letting me restart without a battery pull.

If you didn't buy it from them == then I'm betting they will not do anything other than tell you to send it to Samsung for warranty. They in turn may very well require proof of purchase -- to service it -- to ensure that it was not stolen.
You may be SOL.

I bought a Droid X about this time last year off of Craigslist and after I got home and played with the phone I noticed the screen had a few bright spots on it and the screen flickered a bit. I had literally activated it a day earlier and went on their website and talked to one of those Chat associates and told them what the phone was doing. I had literally no idea when the phone was previously purchased or if the warranty was still valid, but even then they said it was under warranty (I also have the insurance for the phone, even though they never asked about that.) They overnighted me a refurbished phone pretty much no questions asked other than to tell them what color the water damage stickers were during our conversation. I had upgraded to an Incredible about 6 months earlier and then switched to the X and they asked zero questions how I came to have the X or what happened to my Incredible. I basically got a refurbished Droid X off Craigslist for $200. Not bad in my book!
I'd say just call them up on the phone or go on to VZW.com and surf around until the chat bubble pops up, that's what I've done a few times and it's always paid off (mostly because I don't like talking to customer service people on the phone for some reason haha.)
So I bought my Galaxy Nexus LTE off Craigslist. Love this bad boy, however I am one of the lucky ones that loses Data/Voice at least 4 times per day. Have tried different radios, went back to stock, factory reset, and only 2 apps I have installed are tapatalk and no signal alert.
Talked to Samsung and I can send it in for them to correct the problem but I would be without a phone for 2 weeks. Is there anyway to get Verizon to exchange it?
Thanks.

Depends on the store/rep you get. It is still technically under the 1 year warranty, but if they want, they can say it's not the original account. I had a blackberry i ebayed a few years back, got it, exchanged it in store no problem. Took my incredible off my family plan (which my name was also on) and wanted a replacement due to the speaker issue and store rep and manager got into it with me for 30 minutes due to it being a "different account" the phone was originally on, even though the phone was ALWAYS on the same phone number. So i guess what i'm saying is try it, if it doesn't work, go to another VZ, or go back a few days later for a new rep. 1 year warranty is a 1 year warranty.
It depends on the rep you talk to. I bought mine from a retailer online, and the VZW rep had to get some supervisor approvals before he could exchange it.
The rep said that what they do is basically send everything goes to Samsung, but they are basically front you a device so you don't have to wait the too weeks. The warranty is not a VZW warranty it is a Samsung warranty so regardless of who you got it from it should be still under warranty. The issues is whether VZW will front you a device while your old one goes back to Samsung.
1. Call them up tell them your issue with the antenna,
2. Tell them you already did a factory reset and it still doesn't work.
3. If they ask you where did you purchase the phone, just say an authorized retailer. VZW will not heads or tails if that is the case because they do not track authorized retailer shipments.
4. Make sure you bring it back to stock if you had it rooted. I use WugFresh Tools to unroot and relock.
bro ive been there
And no Verizon won't replace it, let's face it big reds a **** head ( that why we have data caps now) all about them dollar signs. Trust me I was in the same spot as you when I purchaced my gnex at Verizon "premium retailer" (phone store thats not oficailly Verizon). Samsung is your only hope. Oh yeah check your setting and make sure your data limiter is switched off or your not past your limit
Like I said it depends on the Rep you talk to. This happened to my wife's phone back in March, and we bought the phone from Xpress-Phones.com. The guy new the phones just got released in December so there was no way possible the warranty had expired. He had to get a supervisor approval for the exchange, but there was no issues.
And if all else fails just unroot it, bring it back to stock, relock it and bring it to the VZW store.
If you've been with Verizon for a while try calling the Loyalty Hotline. I've always gotten whatever I ask for (within reason of course): 877-628-8922 Also, if they say no the first time just call back later, it can't hurt to ask.
Just a heads up, I tried to get my black Inc2 warrantied for a hardware issue, and they are out of them. VZW tried to replace it with a Moto X2, but I talked them into sending me a red Inc2 instead. I have to buy a red battery cover on my own.

If you're still with 1 year of your purchase date of your original Dinc then maybe, but I don't think your 1 year warranty starts over when you receive a replacement device.
I've actually have had to replace my inc2 twice recently, they still have them. I actually talked to one very cool tech and I told him about my issue and he tried very hard to send me an alternative 3g phone for free but I haven't replaced my inc2 enough to recieve a diff. phone but he told me they aren't offering them anymore but still have replacement phones. I actually just hot mine today, shipped on Tuesday. It was for extremely low data speeds I was recieving, around 50 kb/s, he did say on 3G were suppose to have an avg. Of 600 kB/s too...regardless I was told they have many. I wish they didn't though! I want to try a different phone...and i did have a choice as well, so right now I have a replacement BLACK Inc2...

I think they do because I got another replacement Inc 2 about a month ago, because my last one had issues with the headphone jack. And the reason I want to get a new phone really badly is that I have an issue with this one were some parts of the screen don't work like I touch it but nothing happens, and only way to fix it is to lock the phone and unlock it back and then it magically works, but then it breaks again and it gets so annoying. Especially on the keyboard, and my old Inc 2 had the same issue as well.
I just got a replacement a few days ago because the usb port was messed up and i couldn't get it to charge

I'm on the complete opposite end of that spectrum. Bought my original Inc from them almost two years ago, with the black tie protection plan. Best Buy has been nothing but great for me. I've probably gone through 6 phones that would not have been covered under the standard warranty, and they replace them every time, no questions asked. Only bought my last on-contract phone from Amazon because it was $.01

Yeh I just had issues and a little misunderstanding about the price of new vs. upgrade. Part of that was due to the incompetence of the sales rep. But I agree that the warranty is better than anywhere else. Thank god I've never had to use it

i went through enough inc2's that i got an early upgrade. picked up a rezound for $50, sold the inc2 for 140.
if anyone has the option of moving to the rezound, do so. it's a brilliant phone. even does phone + data using only the 3g radio, if you'll believe that. thunderbolt does that too, i guess. a point of warning, though - lte phones that aren't made by google don't have aosp roms. the goddamn radio interface layer is closed and made for sense roms, so until we get a translation layer, it's all sense variants. still some damned good ICS roms, some of them with sense 4.

Yea I wish I would have waited to upgrade but I needed a phone. So I had to take my moms upgrade. Now that my lines upgrade is coming up I want to go with either the rezound or the new inc 4g when it comes. But my mom is hell bent on using the upgrade for herself on the razr.

Buy a RAZR outright. Keep the upgrade yourself. The Inc4G is going to be a hell of a phone I think.

Can't afford to buy it out right. If I could I would. It'd be a nice mother's day present

Has anyone talked to Verizon about returning the Note 7 but keeping the upgrade until a new phone comes out? Everything out now just doesn't suite my needs, and I don't want to buy an 8 month old S7 Edge that isn't going to replace my Note 5 or 7.
I chatted with Verizon, and was told that if I simply returned the device, whatever I activated on the line (even my old Note 5) would effectively x-out my upgrade even if it wasn't a brand new phone or an upgrade.
Now, one interesting thing is the upgrade is on my wife's line, but the phone is on my line... So question 2, would that work the same?
That's ridiculous. How would activating an old phone be using up the upgrade. I'm going to call myself in a few and see what they say because in my case. I no longer have my old phone so I'm buying one from someone this weekend to be able to activate it in place of this note 7. Dammit what a mess this entire thing has been.

I agree, it's BS when everything else fails to compare. If that is the case, I'll buy an iPhone 7 plus and ebay it.
Ok I just got off the phone with Verizon cs. The rep I spoke to was real nice and she knew her info.
I asked her if I activate my old. Phone will I still have my upgrade and she said YES.
She says I can upgrade at anytime.
I then asked since Verizon canceled the contracts what to keep me from staying with my phone and not returning it. She said EVENTUALLY THE COMPANY WILL HAVE AN AUDIT AND THEY WILL THEN SEE THAT THOSE PEOPLE WHO STILL HAVE THE NOTE 7 HAVEN'T RETURNED THEM AND WILL EVENTUALLY BE BILLED FOR THE PHONE VIA WHICHEVER WAY YOU HAD YOUR PHONE PAYMENT SETUPLIKE. For instance i was going to pay monthly on mine for 2 years and if I keep the phone eventually when the phone is caught in the audit they would Then proceed to charge me monthly again for the phone.
Oh and something interesting she mentioned is when I originally swapped my old. Note 7 for this newer supposed safer note 7 that they didn't have me sign a new agreement. So basically there's nothing tieing me with this phone to them. But once again all it would take is a audit. Which they will eventually have done and they would flag it. I'd have to sign or return phone and be charged etc. Hopefully this answers some of your guys questions. I know it answered all my questions by calling.
I'm going back to my old phone. Getting all my refunds and upgrade next year when a hopefully. Newer better note 8 will be out.

Yep, I went to a high volume brick and mortar here in Jacksonville and confirmed the same. I'm going back to my old Note 5 and will return this to a store for a refund. No stylus or 5.7" screen is a deal breaker for me at this point. I really want a microsd slot, but I'll just have to deal for now.
