yup, update via a flashable stock firmware zip in recovery (in the android development section i believe) or in odin (also in android dev section). make a nandroid and either run on stock or flash whatever rom you want to try out. of course, since your phone is rooted now with custom recovery already installed, you could just make a nandroid and flash something now. if you want to revert to stock, download the latest official firmware release then. cheers
Saw this in the development section. It looks to be cwm or twrp flashable 4.1.1.

Samsung KIES is where i updated mine to 4.1.1. i believe KIES also allows you to revert back to ICS if necessary. (it's called phone recovery or something like this).

Try mobile Odin in the play store. Download and extract the firmware to your computer. Then put it on the root of your external or internal sd card. Run mobile Odin from your phone and choose the ever root option. You will then have the newest firmware, rooted, with all your data intact.

** Newer 4.4.2 version (UCUCNJ1) available HERE **
First release (2014/07/02): a set of stock Android 4.4.2 packages for the AT&T i317 Note 2 (firmware version UCUCNE5).
Second release (2014/07/13): deodexed version of same - CWM/TWRP flashable with 7/8/14 AGNi kernel - rooted w/busybox.
There are options flashable from custom recovery (CWM, TWRP) or via Odin. They are built from the June 2014 stock OTA for the AT&T I317.
** They do not include bootloader or tz files **
** IF YOU ARE ALREADY ON THE MK6 or NE5 BOOTLOADER (OR ABOVE) FLASHING ANY OF THESE PACKAGES WILL TRIP THE KNOX COUNTER **
These packages are intended only for the AT&T version of the Note 2 and include the modem for this phone. Flashing on any other North American Note 2 will result in a soft brick and require a re-flash of the modem specific to your phone. Flashing on any other phone will likely require a complete reflash of your phone's stock firmware to recover - do not attempt. The other standard disclaimers apply - while these packages have been tested and work on the AT&T i317, you assume all risk in flashing.
Both firmware packages include the system firmware, kernel, and modem from UCUCNE5. They include Linus Yang's build of busybox. They do not include recovery, bootloader or tz (you install the last two separately via Odin if needed).
Unless otherwise indicated, the stock packages do not include root access - you will need to flash SuperSU separately. This is due to the strict SELinux policy in 4.4.2 with the stock ucune5 kernel. Attempts to circumvent this started turning this into more of a customized rom, which is not my intent - you should be able to use this firmware package to run a future OTA.
Install instructions:
For Odin packages a format of /system from custom recovery is recommended prior to flashing. (CWM/TWRP package does this for you). If you are coming from another stock-based i317 firmware data/factory wipe should not be necessary. If coming from any other firmware (or if after flashing you get stuck at the Samsung or AT&T boot logo) data/factory wipe is recommended from recovery.
**NOTE** Odin ZIP packages should be unzipped ONCE. The extracted MD5 file should be placed in the PDA slot in the Odin app. Do not change any other options. If the phone shows up on top as COMn and the MD5 checks out OK in the status window, you are good to click Start. **
1 - Download the package(s) you plan to install.
2 - Copy any CWM/TWRP packages and SuperSU to your phone (external SD card recommended if you need to do a factory reset)
3 - Install a current custom recovery - I've been using Philz CWM v6.41.6, but current TWRP or standard CWM should also be fine
4 - Boot recovery, perform needed wipes (see first section under install)
5 - Flash package (Odin or CWM/TWRP)
6 - Boot phone once, click past any setup screens, let settle for a few minutes
7 - Boot recovery, flash SuperSU
8 - Boot phone, run SuperSU, disable Knox - SuperSU will hang - wait a minute, restart phone
9 - After restart, run SuperSU again, disable Knox again, this time it will take
10 - profit

If you *are not* running 4.3 (MK6), 4.4.2 (NE5) or newer bootloader:
After flashing one of the firmware packages above flash the bootloader package below in Odin to get wifi working (sorry, no option available for CWM/TWRP). I've included the Odin executable just after if needed.
Bootloader needs to be flashed only once. See post #2 here for information on how to check what version of bootloader you have installed.
** Warning - do not attempt to flash MJ4 bootloaders if you already have the MK6 or NE5 bootloaders - this will soft brick your phone - see post #2 in my MK6 thread for more **

If you *are* running 4.3 (MK6) or 4.4.2 (NE5) bootloader: [This section still being tested]
After flashing one of the stock packages, you may need to flash the MK6 tz.img and optionally the param.bin from the MJ4 leak. This is likely to be so if you are on the MK6 or NE5 bootloader and have previously reverted to 4.1 firmware. The zip below contains two Odin packages. If after flashing the stock package and you are on the MK6 bootloader, try flashing the tz only package first (in Odin), then the tz+param package to see if this gets your phone to boot. You may also need to boot recovery and do a factory reset.

Supplemental Packages & Miscellaneous Info
AT&T (I317) Bootloaders
If you prefer to charge with your phone powered off, the NE5 firmware appears to want to see the NE5 bootloader. Otherwise it will power the phone back on with the modem disabled. If you find this annoying enough to accept the negatives associated with a semi-locked bootloader (no revert to earlier bootloaders possible, an unclearable warranty flag which displays any custom flashing activity in download mode) you can use the package below to get current. See my writeup on the MK6 bootloader - here - for more detail.
Be warned - once flashed there is no going back with either of these bootloaders. You accept all responsibility for use of these files and associated consequences. Flashing may trip the Knox warranty flag. In any event, once you have these bootloaders they will count any custom flash activity and trip the Knox warranty flag. No going back from that.
If you are already on one of these bootloaders and attempt a reflash you may end up in Odin Kies mode and unable to boot your phone. To clear this, simply flash another Odin package - like your favorite recovery package. (Might be a good idea to have this on hand just in case).
Choose your poison (flash with Odin - v3.07 recommended -use the PDA slot):
AT&T I317 ODIN 4.4.2 UCUCNE5 Bootloader & tz.img
AT&T I317 ODIN 4.3 UCUBMK6 Bootloader & tz.img

Yes. Only one file changed:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
(Which gets changed again when you install SuperSU)
This is what prevents the overwrite of custom recovery with stock recovery.
I added busybox to the cwm zip, so you will have those files and symlinks in /system/xbin after overall. If you don't want that you can edit the package to remove the binary and line that installs the symlinks in the updater-script (to get a more pure stock look).
There is no busybox in the Odin package so flash that for an easier path to a more stock config. Make sure you format /system beforehand to remove the prior firmware .... Odin does not wipe.

This works with MJ4, MK6, or NE5 bootloaders. With the last two there's no revert once you have installed them. I've not provided the new bootloaders yet.... You can use the ones provided in the OP.
That said this is still somewhat of a work in progress, so feedback on what configs are working is welcome.

When running with the stock kernel you will need to update to the MJ4 bootloader. No worries with MJ4 - you can revert back to an earlier bootloader (including running the official stock MA4 Odin package + Triangle Away) for a clean reset.
As an alternative, you can try running a custom kernel that supports wifi with your existing bootloader. You might still need to update param and/or tz. I've not tested this fully, so ymmv.
Any news on a deodexed version?
Also, how can one verify bootloader version, assuming it's not the baseband version?

cf-auto root, or flash SuperSU with custom recovery.
T999LUVUBNF4 Root
Hey, I've been trying to root my S3 running the T999LUVUBNF4 firmware, but I'm having trouble. Towelroot doesn't support it, I haven't seen anything about a Root66, and I've heard mixed reports on CF-auto root. Does anyone know if there is a workable solution yet? How would I go about flashing SuperSU? Thanks.
Okay I've recently just flashed the root66 firmware that gave me supersu and all that.
My question is... Where do i go from here?
How would i proceed to
1) Install TWRP?, which version as well? Is 2.8 d2tmo fine? Can i have some instructions whether i use TWRP manager(goomanager doesn't seem to exist anymore) or do i have to go into download and flash through odin 3.09?
2) Installing a custom rom? I want to install Paranoid Android 4.6 beta 5 for D2lte but i'm not sure how to go about it. I have already downloaded the rom itself but not sure how to proceed from here. Also, how would i get the working and latest version of Gapps? (Also, can you tell me how to install Cyanogenmod 11 for d2lte as well?)
3) What are some cool apps to get?
4) Which root apps/roms/softwares will brick my phone? I'm never sure which thing will work and which won't.
5) how do i install xposed?
6) How do i remove all the bloatware? and how would i got about flashing through my phone without using the computer? is mobile odin compatible with my phone?
My phone is the SGH-T999L and i have no idea if i have a locked bootloader and how i would go about and bypass the limitations of this locked bootloader

Please don't post the same thing on multiple threads. Not being rude but it doesn't help at all
Rooting SGH-T99L with T999LUVUBNF4
I've read most of the more recent posts, and it is still unclear to me how to root my T999L which is already on the T999LUVUBNF4 baseband and build. I've seen references to cf-auto-root (like serio22 above), but the T999 (which I believe works for T999L) is based on T999UVALEM, which is 4.0.4 ICS. I certainly don't want to downgrade that far. The latest firmware on the first page of this Root66 thread is T999L_UVUBNC1, and there was a post indicating better reception with the newer modem, so I'd rather not downgrade that either. If I flash T999L_UVUBNC1 will my baseband remain intact (BNF4)? Or should I wait for a pre-rooted T999L_UVUBNF4? Or is there a better way altogether to root my T999L/BNF4?
Also, for other n00bs reading this, it's pretty clear that towelroot doesn't work on BNF4.
Thanks!!

rooted Windmobile 4.4.4
anyone have 4.4.? for wind mobile what ever is the new one stock that is rooted ?
I tried flashing UVDLJC - UVDMD5 (latest OTA update) using Multiboot Recovery v2.2 - (twrp2.8.3.0)
When flashing directly onto blank partition, I got some error about missing build.prop, and so decided to try flashing on top of stock ROM.
Stock I have installed as Flash PureStock Rom + Secure UVAMB7 Kernel (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43772060&postcount=3) -- again, in multiboot -- and tried installing OTA on top of that. Got "error executing updater binary in zip"
What am I doing wrong?

slimkat v9 to stock tw
Please help me. I have a sgh-t999. I want to know is it safe to install stock tw t999_uvuenc2. I'm currently running slimkat v9. My baseband is t999uvuenc2 and my android version is 4.4.4 i really want my s3 to revert back to stock. Ive been asking to the roms posted in this unit if it safe to direct flash but i havent got a good advice. I really want the stock touchwiz. Pls help me.
Which firmware to use
After I un-bricked my SGH-T999 with the debrick image sdcard ( YAYYY), I was able to boot with the stock 4.3 rom again.
I reflash the root66 4.3 firmware hoping it could get the correct boot image back in place. However it got stuck at the Samsung logo.
So I went into stock recovery and did a wipe/factory reset. Now I can still boot with the debrick sdcard but I am back in JellyBean (4.1.2 T999UVDMD5).
Which firmware should I flash 4.3 or 4.1.2? And did I miraculously downgraded my firmware ( I thought it wasn't possible) ?

My ATT SGH-i747 was rooted and running 4.4.2 until an OTA this past weekend soft-bricked the phone. Phone would boot to a blank screen but still allowed access to download and recovery modes, thankfully.
With help from this awesome forum, and a stock 4.3 flash via ODIN, thanks to enewman17's epic efforts and thread , the phone is back, but now won't recognize the SIM - and baseband version is "unknown" - I suspect I need to now go up to 4.4.2 to get the hw recognized by the sw. Went to ATT and they put a new SIM in but to no avail
CWM recovery is gone, but I can reload that easily enough...
Do I need to just flash the modem, or is the bootloader involved too?
Is there a single flash or .zip that will get the ROM (incl CSC and Modem) up to 4.4.2 in one shot?
I never really wanted to go this deep but here I am so now I'm looking for advice or direction as there are so many directions to look... thanks in advance!
Mismatch in firmware
Digging deeper, using Phone Info *Samsung*, I have noted the following
bootloader version: I747UCUFNJ1
baseband version: <blank>
pda version: I747UCUEMJB
csc version: I747ATTEMJB
skip a bit...
modem version: <blank>
hardware revision: <blank>
mobile operator name: <blank>
mobile network code: <blank>
So it would seem I have a mis-match of versions, where it seems all should be the same..
Would it be safe to flash to MJB following this thread?

Your modem (baseband) appears to have been compromised in the process of downgrading from Kitkat. You could try either of the following solutions...
1) Flash the UCUEMJB modem via custom recovery to return you to complete stock 4.3. You can see the modem file here ....
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319197285
2) Do a complete stock restore to 4.4.2. You can find the stock update zip via the following thread ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/general/ucuemjb-to-ucufne4-firmware-update-t2808654
If you can reflash the 4.3MJB modem, you can check to see if you can get an OTA update to 4.4.2. Using Option 2 requires you to be on complete stock 4.3 so this may not work if you currently don't have the baseband/modem. I would strongly advise you stick to the custom recovery flashable files for now and avoid Odin. You would, however, need to restore custom recovery via Odin.
Hope this works for you.

Thanks for the detailed reply with links, Larry :good:
So I guess my plan of actions will be
1) re-install custom recovery w CWM to my external SD card as was previous
-do I *need* later version of CWM? Previous one of mine was 6.0.2.3, IIRC, that is what I can easily flash back to the phone
2) install .zip (from https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319197285) via CWM
If that doesn't work, I was interested in the S3Rx ROM vs. a stock 4.4.2 ROM - is there any way to go straight to a custom 4.4.2 ROM or should I get the modem working in 4.3 first?
Lastly, Where can I find a later version of a CW Recovery Touch .tar to flash via ODIN? (third stoopid noob question in this post, I know...)
Attempt to flash d2att_I747UCUEMJB_bootloader_modem_4.3.zip via CWM Recovery FAILED with Status 7, Installation aborted...
Bootloader version: I747UCUFNJ1
Baseband version: <blank>
Blank stare into space...

You aren't the first to have this issue. This is why I am still on NE4 and did not take the OTA to NJ1. The update is pointless anyway, all it does is patch the kernel so towelroot won't work anymore aside from updating the bootloader.
Since your bootloader is NJ1, that is your firmware which cannot be downgraded. If you try, you will brick. You have to work with NJ1 files here only. Sure you can flash older modems, but stick to NJ1. I suggest using ODIN to flash a custom recovery, then use enewman17's NJ1 .zip file in said recovery to reflash all the NJ1 stuff. Then do a complete factory reset. You might need to flash stock recovery to do the hard factory data reset, as I am not sure if it can be done in CWM or TWRP.
In the future, I suggest freezing the update and not upgrading until people on here do it and report how it's working or rather not working in this case.

Thanks for the response, Stoney :good:
I have CWM and TeamEpic v5 on external SD, so a version of custom recovery is there (CWM 6.0.2.3) - but do you have a link to enewman17's NJ1 .zip /recovery?
As far as freezing the updates in the future, yes. I tried to keep the OTA push from happening, apparently not ardently enough :crying:

Not a problem, glad to help when I can. I THINK this is the link you need: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/general/ucufne4-to-ucufnj1-update-t2941792
You might want to post in that thread asking if it works when you are already on NJ1 though, or get a hold of enewman17 via PM or something.
SOLVED!
enewman17 posted NJ1 modem .zip here, and now me has modem and cellular service again!
Question: can I update the thread tag from [Q] to [SOLVED] myself?

Ok, i can use ODIN. But from where i can find the baseband for rooted custom ROM (CM) SGH-M919?
My method...Backup your current rom. Odin the oh3 stock release, odin cf root, odin twrp, backup the new stock rom, restore prior backup.

Hmmm...thats what i am actually thinking as of now....but looking for easy alternative like if we get the flashable zip or something of this baseband i can just flash it without taking backup of ROM and reinstall the ROM etc.....
But am looking for a site where i can download these basebands....
i take it you are trying to update the modem/baseband ihere you go. Must be done thru odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/general/foh3-modem-bin-mdl-bootloader-t3191094
IMPORTANT: DO NOT CHANGE THE BOOTLOADER unless u KNOW EXACLY what you are doing...changing bootloader to the wrong bootloader will brick your device and some modem packages conatin bootloader. so make sure that you are getting a ODIN file that only contains the modems and no bootloader!
if you wish to properly update the bootlaoder and baseband properly ....just ODIN the OFFICIAL samsung release for your device and then re-root and reinstall recovery and then your rom.

Perfect....I will use this one....
And on S4 you don't even need to root before flashing TWRP and your ROM of choice. Just double flash the stock release with ODIN, let it boot up and make sure all is well, go into Camera to let it see if it needs a firmware update (happens automatically first time you run stock camera app), and when satisfied your phone is good, go into download mode, take TWRP + whatever else you want.
