I upgraded to the LG G2 on Verizon and I am selling my phone for $150 tomorrow on Craigslist. However, I am rooted and on CM so I need to get back to stock. I try using Odin and the tars from [STOCK ROMS][CWM][ODIN] Stock ROM Repository - Find/Download Them All Here (SPH-D710) thread but I keep getting errors on the downloaded files. The files won't extract. It tells me "Cannot open file 'file name' as archive" when trying to extract it. I thought it may have been corrupted so I re downloaded the file (GB27) and tried again, but I have the same problem. I also downloaded FL24 and I have the same problem. I tried the .tar.md5.gz and the .tar.exe files and both give me issues. The .tar.md5.gz won't flash in Odin nor will they extract in winrar or 7zip. I need to get this done tonight so I can sell tomorrow. Am I doing something wrong? Is there an easier way to go back to stock/factory? Thank you.

Wow.. luck to sell your Galxy 4G epci touch for $150.. I was able to get one very good condition for $70
From what i have restored to stock so many time with one click Odin. And i believed download Odin file need to extract with Winrar or 7zip. After that, right click and select run with Administrator if you on Win 7 os. Please follow instruction where ever you download that file and shouldn't has any problem. good luck

Right that's what I was thinking hopefully the guy still wants it tomorrow. For some reason it didn't work I've used Odin hundreds of times so I am not sure what went wrong. Luckily, I had backups of Rooted EL29 on my external HDD and a backup of the e4gtauto-sfx cmd on there as well so I was able to restore it back to stock. Thank you for your reply.

So I'm hoping I'm posting in the appropriate place, and if not please feel free to point me in the right direction. There may be threads that already exist that are what I need, but I find it so hard to find the right thread on this website so after lots of trying I figured I'd just post.
I have Samsung Galaxy S III on WIND Mobile (SGH-T999V) which is said to be identical except in name to the T-Mobile Variant. I tried a few different ways to get root, and since the first which involved CWM weren't working I ended up using Odin to install (flash?) a file called root66.tar from god knows where. I acquired root, but every time I go to flash any Mod (through recovery > apply zip from sd), whether its CM9 or an update pushed to my phone from Wind, i get a status 7 report (I think it's checking for my devices product name to see that it matches whatever the thing is designed for and it doesn't check out?)
I've heard that this is a problem with CWM and all I need to do is flash the latest CWM or a different CWM. I've tried downloading the CWM app, and manually flashing, etc etc, none of it seems to actually change my recovery. Maybe I'm just missing something, but I'm quite sure the recovery simply is not being flashed.
So I found this thread for T-Mo variant that sed to get on root explorer and delete a couple files, which I'll probably try if nobody responds quickly, and hopefully nothing bad will happen, but I wanted to confirm that this will be safe for Wind variant.
Also, I'm freaking out a little inside and want to revert back to my stock ROM, which I found. The thing is it's in zip file and i'm unable to flash .zip. My Windows computer is out of commission and I only have Linux Mint, for which Odin doesn't work, so I have this program called Heimdall. I'm wondering how to package a tar.gz file, what is a tar.gz file? Why not just use a .tar file? or a .gz file? What's the difference. Basically, when I give Heimdall my tar.gz file, whats it gonna do with it?
Any thread-pointing or explanation would be super appreciated! Thank you in advance
edit: In regards to Heimdall, I've looked at some guides, they all site older versions, which appear to be different? the only flashhing I can do is either thru a Heimdall Firmware Package, which I don't know how to make but I'd like to learn, or with a PIT, which I dont have or understand, so any help there would also be good
The files you are supposed to delete are safe to do so. Or you can rename them. Either way will work. Once you do this you can now install recovery from rom or goo manager. Use the app to reboot recovery as well. Very easy.
You don't flash zip files from the computer. You do that in recovery.
There are also other ways to flash. I suggest you read through my firmware thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
Pay attention to Mobile Odin, it may be your easiest and safest way to flash stock firmware.
You got root66.tar from god knows where???
Don't take this the wrong way but it sounds like you are getting a little careless and could cause more problems than you started with.
Do not flash anything except what you find in this forum. Aside from custom roms you should find everything you need in that thread.
Id also suggest reading the stickied threads in this section as well.
Good luck!

Haha, I know you flash .zip from recovery. I meant I'm unable to flash .zip through recovery, and I can't use Odin to flash any .tar for example, so I thought if I could learn how to use Heimdall, learn how to package a 'Heimdall Firmware Package', that'd be safest.
Anyhow, Thank you, I will be more careful
Edit: checking back in, I went to delete the files
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/install-recovery.sh
They're nowhere to be found. I looked around other places like /root/system, and /mnt/system, still nothing. Any ideas?

Sorry I really font know anything about heimdall. That's why I suggested looking into mobile odin. It will let you flash the firmware from the phone itself. The free version here on xda won't root the fw during flash like the paid version will.
If those files aren't on your phone then don't worry about them. They rewrite stock recovery every boot.
You can try this to get flashing to work in recovery:
Open /system/build.prop and wherever it says d2can, change it to d2tmo. And change T999V to just T999.
Make a copy of the original first and save to your external sdcard.
Now reboot recovery and try to flash again.

My question is which firmware do I dl? Thanks in advance!

Just to clarify, I can use the aforementioned info in the link to un root the galaxy note II?
I "believe" that its the stock ROM untouched, no root no busy box no custom boot loader.
It will put your Note 2 back to the way it was when you first got it.
* If your uncertain then PM the OP of the post for confirmation.

Inside the the zip file you downloaded should be a file that ends in .tar or .tar.md5 that is used in Odin.
If your not sure what you are doing you may want to brush up on the process first.

Hi there
Back in September, there was a leaked rom of the JB update for Bell. I flashed it successfully and everything went smoothly. But in November, Bell released the official JB update, and I'd like to flash that.
I downloaded Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-I747M_BMC_1_20121121150017_8dyms8nejb.zip from Samsung-Updates.com, but not sure what to do with it. When I put it on the phone, and try and instal it from the recovery screen, it fails.
I've looked at various posts, but can't find the answer to my 2 questions.
- Am I using the proper update from the site mentioned above?
- And how do I go about flashing this onto the phone? (I tried ODIN, but in the PDA, there are options for md5, tar, gz, etc, but not .zip files. I'm just being cautious so that I don't brick my phone.
Thanks in advance...

Hello all. I have posted this problem/question before but received no help. So im posting it again. I recently rooted my S3 and installed cyanogenmod and decided I like touchwiz so I decided to unroot it. So I installed triangle away to delete any traces of root and the process was completed nicely. Then I flashed a stock rom that I downloaded online. Then I did a stock factory reset. But it doesnt feel right. There are slight graphics glitches with opening some apps. Like opening facebook messanger will display white and black lines untill it loads up. I tried the whole reinstall thing and no help. There are other similar glitches. Can anyone help me? I want my s3 fully stock like it was straight from att.

I would try another file download location (which you did not specify where you downloaded from). You might also try and redownload and ensure to do an MD5 check. Of course this means factory resetting again and ODIN.
If nothing else, download rooted ROM from Mr.Robinson's post and unroot it. This will keep your flash counter as is.

Follow this thread for downloading stock roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625. After unzipping most should end with the file name .md5. ODIN will do the md5 check automatically for you. Just pay attention to the prompts.
If you find that this does not work, go here and download rooted rom to be flashed via ODIN. You can then remove root.
If the file is not ODIN flashable with an md5 at the end, look for a long string of digits and letters that should be right by the download. A good example to know what I am talking about is to take a look at the site for rooted stock roms. Notice the md5 under the Old image AT&T file download link. Download and extract this file and follow the directions.

Copy that. Out of curiosity, it appears most people need this .tar because they lost their baseband / modems after installing a different rom. Wouldn't it be easier to just flash the L710T NF4 modem firmware? I downloaded it and was going to try it with a few roms that were messing with my baseband. Thoughts?

Will this work for SPH-L710T on Virgin Mobile?
Because this happened to my friend on her's: http://androidforums.com/threads/sph-710t-deleted-google-play-services.887991/
TLR=She deleted Google Play Services and her phone is all kinds of screwed up, factory reset didn't help the phone refresh the system file on its own, so either I need the stock .tar OR someone to upload me their Google Play Services system app (my Stratosphere II's usually works once but I think Google Play tries to update it and it fails and then all the problems start again)
