Warning to everyone please avoid using Freegee Relock feature it can cause semi hardbrick or worst a full hardbrick.
I just had a SEMI NIGHTMARE using Freegee
I installed Freegee, then installed CWM classic installation, everything went fine also made nandroid and efs backup. So I decided to Relock and then "semi hardbrick" happen.
Why Semi Hardbrick because you think you can no longer use the usual Download Mode tricks. (Insert USB, when battery show press the combo key) but that will not happen no matter what you do.
What you see in the screen is a freeze up LG logo with error like secure boot encryption in two lines or something like that.
The hard reset command still work but you cant go any further you will see the error again.
Ok here's the trick and its very tricky its like catching a fly for a Download Mode.
Normally during boot LG logo normally flick twice, then the battery shows if your insert the cable or the animation Logo if loading the system, mine don,t during this trouble time.
What happen that it seems you cant turn off your phone it persist to turn ON with boot encrption error on the screen but to turn OFF you press and hold volume down or up or both and power (this is the key to go Download Mode)
I used the volume down + up and power button
While turning off the device and you think the logo stops showing up release the key then quickly insert usb cable when the LED light turns ON quickly press the Volume UP, DOWN, POWER congrats Download Mode ^_^
I reminder to anyone Please don't use the Freegee Relock function. But if want to witness the near death experience go ahead its safe now ^_^

Yeah I remember I was still plugin (charging using PC) when I use the Relock function of course I have to reboot after that.
If you mean when it gets error you cant plugin your usb because it will trigger the device to turn ON and it persist to turn ON

when you are plugged in either by charger or computer, you might not enter recovery or download mode.
turn off your phone by pressing power for extended time.

what i have seen here and done myself, sometimes no matter how smart you are or knowledge you have, one always misses the smallest of the things.
yes if you are plugged in you will have a had time to get into download mode or even recovery. sometimes it just wont enter either.
also sometimes phones seems turned off but its not that's where pressing power for extended times comes up. otherwise it will try to boot on plug.

You are far from hard bricked (that's the good news). If the device turns on at all its not hard bricked. If you are getting a security error its most likely because you uninstalled some system apps and didn't put them back before relocking. You might also have not had a backup of your boot.img. Freegee will restore your phone without a boot.img backup if it can't find it, since at least that would put you close enough to stock if you had to take it in, and you can still use download mode.
You can get to download mode because you see the lge logo, download mode is before that logo in the boot sequence.

Booting to recovery with button combination not working

So, after trying out a few firmwares (JM2, JG8, JM5) and kernels (Samset&OC) I can't no longer boot to recovery with Vol UP + Home + power. I can't really say when this problem first occurred, but maybe with JG8 flash. The strange thing is that I can get to recovery with adb reboot recovery and through android console with reboot recovery (when rooted ofc). Also download mode works great.
Things I have tried:
-flash again to JM2 and JM5 with re-partition checked (512 PIT)
-cleared cache+data through recovery
-factory reset through phone code (this also cleared the internal SD)
-took out the battery multiple times
-booted phone without sim
-flashed phone without sim
-changed CSC with phone code
-restore a nandroid backup of JM2. Recovery worked with this one when I took the backup
-there's no external flash card inserted
Soooo..does anyone have any idea about this kind of problem?
i had a similar problem after trying few ROMs. In my case, when i pres the key combi i get the boot logo and then few seconds later the screen goes black and then i see the boot logo again, and this goes forever. and then i tried pressing the same key combination simultaneously and once i see the boot logo i let go the power button and keep the vol up and home pressed, and then only it went into the recovery mode.
hope it works the same for you
Cheers
Agreed, 99.9% chance you are doing it wrong.

mmthabet: I had the exact same experience. Letting go of the power button when the logo appears lets me enter recovery.
or you may need to take out the battery first for a few seconds... after that, you can reinsert it back and try recovery mode...
at least this work for me...
Thanks for replies but none of the solutions work. The recovery mode button combination DID work for a few weeks, but then just stopped working.
I know that I'm doing it right. I have always pressed vol up and home down until the phone loaded recovery and only briefly pressed power button just at the start. I have also tried to remove battery multiple times and once waited 30 mins before re-inserting it.
Trust me, I'm not doing it wrong :s And recovery is working great through adb reboot recovery and shell.

More so a timing issue. Buttons not pressed at the same time.
I get it all the time for all combo's.
Just keep trying.
You might already have this however just in case you dont, check out Quick Boot.

this wont work, if you bricked the phone in a bad flash situation.
in times when this app works, you can easily do adb reboot recover
so this app still doesn't address the real issue of how to get the 3 buttons press hardware recovery mode

I release the buttons right when the first Samsung texts comes on the screen. It will take it to Recovery mode. I also had a "boot loop" few times, if I keep pressing the buttons all the time.
Have you tried release your fingers right in the first texts? I really don`t know what is exactly the right way to press the buttons, but this always have took it to Recovery.
Looks like my latest full wipe with *2767*3855# cured it. Flashed JM5-->full wipe-->samset1.9b-->samset kernel and now it works. It must've got stuck somehow in my previous JM5 installation.

yes
adb reboot download
but it is dangerous, as you can not recover from a bricked state, if your flash is not compatible or if something went wrong with odin, etc.
I you're bricked and can't get into Download or recovery mode, leave the device to boot, it will just show a black screen for a while then will turn its self off, once this happens you should be able to use the key combo.

Any idea how long you waited? Been waiting 5 minutes, hasn't shut off. Mine's a Bell though so I'm guessing I won't have any luck.
The way i do it (no chance of doing it wrong and timing):
hold down+home and then also press the power button for a little more then 10 seconds (so all 3 buttons for 10 seconds). The phone will reset into download mode, never fails in whatever mode the phone originaly was..

[Q] stuck in safe mode

I have sprint Galaxy s3 with jelly bean rooted. On new years eve I installed a 3rd party app from the market to see if I could get a hot spot. don't even remember the name of the app. I ran it and it locked my phone up. I pulled the battery and when it rebooted it was in safe mode. In safe mode I uninstalled the program but it did not help me at all. Any time I reboot it goes right to safe mode. I have tried several times to get to download mode and recovery mode and have not been able to reach either. The phone works fine in safe mode I could even do a factory reset and with no problem the phone resets and goes right back to safe mode when it boots up to the new factory set up. No 3rd party apps are seen and no download mode or recovery mode can be obtained in the usual ways we use to boot to them. I am stumped any ideas from anyone.
Try use kies!
Hi. You can try this method.
1- get or make a usb jig
0r
2- turn off your s2. Pull the batt out for 10 sec and press on button w/out inserting the batt.
After doing that, try to boot into download mode. Sometimes yhe phone need some rest, juat pull out the batt for 5-10min and retry. I suggest that you try to enter recovery mode before heading to download mode..

Yeah, i'm at a loss, was gonna say if you can get into DL mode, then could odin to sock. I'm not sure of any other way to get around it and force that puppy to boot back into normal land.
Try this.. Power off phone... Restart, once you see Samsung logo, Press the Menu capacitive button repeatedly. (read this is how to get into safemode) maybe it'll work to reboot you OUT of safe mode. (Note i'm just searching the web to see if i can find anything) And i did pull that for a i9300 International, but it may work for this one as well.. (just a shot)
Seen another with similar issue, Pull SD and battery for 10 min.. When rebooted, went back to normal. Again these are all shots in the dark..

You have the root, why not use it instead of sudo-randomly smashing keys *Grin* ? If you don't have a Terminal app install one of those, su to root (answer to allow root when Superuser/SuperSu asks you) then run "reboot recovery". When/If recovery comes up wipe Cache, Dalvik-Cache, fix permissions and so forth, then try to restart into the system and see if "Safe Mode" crap persist.
I had my phone come up in Safe Mode one time, can't remember what I played with to even trigger it though. If this doesn't work, you can use something like Rom Toolbox Pro, or another fun tool to wipe the caches while the phone is up in Safe Mode.
Happy Flashing,

That is the one thing that has me questioning. The volume button seems to move freely however; I have tried volume button when booted up in safe mode and the volume down does not move. the volume up moved the volume control up. although when pressing vol. down when trying to go do download mode it boots to download warning screen. unless it is stuck on internally. I don't know, cause the button moves freely.
Mine was in safe mode once. All I did is reboot it and mine went away.

Thanks this d root is no longerdid help me make my decision . I am taking the phone to sprint store. by downloading and using keys it seems that the software does not cause my problem. I hooked up to kies and did a complete firmware upgrade. Although there is no upgrade it still reloaded jellybean. It did a complete restore though and root is no longer present. Super user is gone. But I still have the same safe mode issues. I am guessing that this is a hardware problem probably the volume key. I feel ok with taking it to sprint since root is gone. who knows maybe i'll get a new one. Thanks to all who helped I surely appreciate it.

Soft brick, but can't access recovery mode

Hey there, so my phone randomly decided to stop working today.
Whenever I put the battery in the phone or plug in the charger, the Samsung screen loads then nothing. This all happens without me pushing the power button btw. Then the power button doesn't work, nor can I access recovery.
Like I mentioned, this all happened very suddenly and unexpectedly. I haven't flashed a rom in awhile so I'm not sure what caused the problem. One tidbit worth mentioning is that my phone would randomly reboot on the rom I've been using, but it wouldn't happen too often.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not exactly sure what I should do in this situation. Thanks for reading.

Have you done this and then connected the USB to see if ODIN will recognize the phone? it's entirely possible that you are getting into download mode, but just can't see it..
It's certainly worth a try.

Did I ruin my phone?

Was trying to switch from TWRP to CWM (having trouble with TWRP installing CM nightlies). I installed the latest CWM via fastboot. Seemed to load OK, but when I tried to start up the recovery, it just rebooted after showing 'Entering Recovery...' in pink at the top.
Now I'm really stuck. No matter what I do, the phone starts up, shows Entering Recovery at the top, and then shuts down. I cannot enter the bootloader. I cannot start up the phone into the ROM (which is a TikTak ROM that was working fine). Basically, I'm unable to do anything.
When the phone is plugged in, no orange charge light comes on. Vol Down + Power doesn't work. Vol Up + Power doesn't work. Either way, the phone tries to enter recovery, then shuts down.
Is there anything else I can try? Is this phone bricked?
What was the fastboot command you did? It sounds like you flashed to the wrong partition, or flashed an m7 recovery instead of an m7wlv

fastboot flash recovery <cwm.zip> (whatever it was called)
Same way I did it for TWRP which worked perfectly.
Really need a solution here, if there is one. Currently planning on just letting the battery drain and starting again...

If you can't get a charge light while it is off, DO NOT let it die! It will not charge while dead. When it is booting, can you do adb or fastboot commands from your PC? If so, try:
ADB/fastboot reboot bootloader
Sent from my HTC6500LVWBLU using XDA Free mobile app
Usually, the command: fastboot erase cache
Will resolve such issues, though it doesn't always work, depends on what's causing the actual issue.
But that is what I would suggest trying from fastboot.
Problem is I can NOT get into the boot loader at all, unless i'm missing something. Start phone, tries to load recovery, shuts off. That's it. Is there a way to get the bootloader to open? I seem to have no options.

Tried it man, vol down + power as much as you want. It starts, tries to enter recovery (for about 3 seconds) then goes dead. The thing is, even with the screen off and I plug it into the computer, the computer recognizes the phone a little... It says 'driver not recognized' (even though they're installed). So maybe it's actually partially on in the background, and locked up? That's why I'm hoping the battery running down will fix it.
I'm literally dusting off my old galaxy nexus to get that loaded up, because I need my phone. I'm worried the One is bricked.
***Edit / update - when I plug the phone in 'off' (not responsive) mode, and try fastboot anything, it hangs saying 'waiting for device'. Whatever that means.

You are holding down on both the volume down and the power button for as long as your fingers can stand to?
It's not a quick press of both, but a steady hold down of both buttons, even if it tries to do the recovery loading , keep holding both down.
Make sure you are pressing them both FIRMly and for at least 30 seconds or more.
If you are already trying that, then disregard.
But the way it's behaving, it doesn't sound like you are.
If so, again, disregard, just making sure you are attempting one of the only possible methods you have, correctly.
As it won't do what it's supposed to if you do not continue to hold them down, even if that entering recovery screen comes up, you need to continue holding them down.

Yes, that's what I've been doing - and if I hold it down for a longer time, the phone will just cycle through. Off, "Entering recovery", off, "entering recovery", etc every 10 seconds or so. It's clearly not working.

Well that's too bad. Sorry to hear you're having these issues.
I noticed in your first post in this thread, you said you did this:
fastboot flash recovery cwm.zip
Was the file actually a zip?
It should have been a .img file.
Just trying to figure out what happened, as it could help in finding a resolution.
As it stands right now, there is nothing really to go off of.
Anyone, still trying to recover my phone... Here's where I'm at. I figured out that while the phone is off, if I plug it in, I can access ADB via the computer's cmd prompt, but no fastboot (says 'waiting for device'). If I use ADB to reboot the bootloader or recovery, I get the same problem - phone resets, tries to enter recovery for 2 seconds, then back off again.
Can I somehow use ADB to get the phone working again?

If you borked your boot loader where you can't access it, there isn't much we can do to help. If the phone can't boot to the boot loader, we can't do anything to help. I think the only thing you can do is send it in for JTAG.

'Send it in for JTAG'... sorry, what does this mean?
I'm also going to try bringing it to Verizon and claiming ignorance to see if I can get a warranty replacement. What's the downside, right?
adb shell
dd if=/sdcard/LOCATIONOFHBOOT/HBOOT.img of=/dev/block/nameofblock
should work, but i have no clue what the hboot block name is and that this way is really risky. Maybe a dev can chime in and help.

maybe pm this guy for help?

[Q] Lg g3 vs985 not going into recovery while device is powered off

Please help lg g 3 won't enter custom recovery I've tried all button variations
Please someone help I have a rooted g3 and don't wanna brick it?????
Go into an adb terminal and type in
Code:
adb reboot recovery[/quote]. If you don't have adb, search up minimal adb and fastboot, and how to use it.

I've seen people are viewing this post if anyone know how to fix my problem please help or message me, the minimal adb won't work unless the device is turned on in usb. debugging, I can access my recovery with phone on easily but while it's powered off I should be able to get to custom recovery by pressing volume down and power while phone is off, but this method isn't working. So if I get in bootloop I can't get into custom recovery...please anyone any ideas
Well it should be as simple as holding down power and volume button down things but i guess you've already tried that method many times and it didnt work so you ask then, right?
If your phone in bootloop, you can flash tot files and it will back to stock re-root and re-install trwp.
If your phone still (or already) normal, you can download an app that can take you to custom recovery such as rebooter or power menu, thats it.
Yea phone isn't in bootloop, but if I put a Rom on phone I have no way to access the recovery because the volume and power won't take me to the recovery, so if it goes into bootloop I'm outta of luck I don't understand why the hardware buttons won't take me to the recovery, have you ever heard of this problem

How long are you holding the vol down and power buttons? It should be around 15-20 seconds, then your system recovery screen comes up, you choose factory data reset, yes, and then TWRP comes up. If that isn't working - are you sure your buttons are working OK?
If the phone is turned off is there any other way to access it while phone is off?
Yes buttons work fine I hold it down and it just goes to Verizon screen ?
Actually when I hold it down it just stays on logo and reboots back to logo over and over and over
Actually I hold it down and it reboots to logo over and over its like there's no recovery there I don't understand lol
If anyone has any ideas or thoughts on how to fix this please let me know

OK... Does your phone boot into your ROM at all or are you bootlooped? If your phone boots, download an app called flashify and get the proper twrp .img file for your model and flash the image using flashify. It's an easy app to use - just make sure you're using the correct twrp .img for your phone...from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966129
If you are bootlooped I would suggest starting over and reflashing back to stock using the tot or kdz method. Here is a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/restore-verizon-to-stock-t2827878 I know it can be a pain to get the download tool working properly sometimes, so it may take some effort to get it working, but be patient (and read a lot if you get stuck) and you will get it working.
I don't know how you got borked...maybe it was an un-bumped twrp image? Either way, it is what it is, just try not to do it again Good luck.
Thanks much I'll try this
When this happened to me i would
1: remove battery
2: insert battery
3: hold volume down and lock button at the same time
4: When the LG Logo pops up release the lock button for 1 second (while still holding the volume down button), then press down again
5: A data reset/restore menu appears, and when you choose to reset/restore, TWRP boots to recovery.
