So I'm having problems trying to restore my sms messages in hangouts using titanium backup. I've flashed CM11 Nightly on my device, installed gapps, and flashed the most recent supersu to obtain root. When I open up titanium backup it opens up fine but when I try and click on "hangouts" under Backup/Restore it crashes everytime. So instead of doing it that way I did it through the batch restore system option. I have the "migrate system data" box checked. When I restore the app data, it says its successful and I reboot the device. When I open up hangouts, all of my sms messages are there but the app closes down and when I open it up again they are gone. I also tried restoring the data then using "sms backup and restore" to backup the messages but everytime I do that it only backs up the 4 messages I have actually received to the device after flashing CM11. I am getting frustrated and am unsure what to do next. Also has anyone else noticed that the launcher in CM11 is slow and laggy or is that just me?
Thanks.
I haven't had any notable issues with slow/lagginess in the CM11 "google search" launcher. I've not tried the alternative (launcher3), though.
I'm exactly in your boat with the hangouts messages though. I've recently moved onto the GNex from a Nexus S, and my hangouts/sms (xml and data) backups through TB only ever restore temporarily. Keen on finding a way to sort this out to get my old texts back.

I got issue a week ago where almost every app randomly crashes on my phone. It is Desire running CyanogenMod, with app2sd (including data). I tried upgrading CM, restoring stuff from nandroid backup, and changing SD cards, but the problem always comes back.
So I want to wipe everything clean and install system on fresh device.
However, I also want to keep my contacts, text messages, call history and stuff like that. How can I do it without using nandroid (which would also transfer my old problems)?
I use sms backup+ for sms and Call history. Are your contacts not google contacts?
Not all of them are google contacts. I'd also like to keep some other settings from other apps...
When you restore SMSes with SMS backup+, does the stock android message app still see the correct dates of text messages, or are they one big mess cause all the dates are reset to restore date?
Basically, I want to backup everything that does not have a chance of transfering the error form the old systme.
Do you think full system Titanium Backup would do it? Does it only backup app settings and saved data, or whole apps?

It backups the application + data.

I use Titanium for apps and their data, but for contacts, messages, phone history, etc i prefer My Backup Pro.
Hello all,
I installed MIUI rom on my galaxy S I900which seems to be working fine.
Prior to this I had made a full titanium backup of system data and apps
Now after resetting rights to TB, I would like to restore my contacts and messages.
As I set the folder location and go to backup/restore and contacts item, TB has well detected my backup with the correct date and time at which I made it.
The problem is TB displays a message data restored successfully but my contacts list is empty.
Same problem with messages.
Please help i really need this data back.
Thanks in advance
Wrong forum, mate
In general though, it's inadvisable to restore system apps or data with TiBu, especially going between TouchWiz/Sense and AOSP, which MIUI is.
System apps are generally dependent on framework proprietary to TW, and that framework isn't present on AOSP.
For contacts, migrate them all to google contacts, so you never have to worry again.
For messages, try SMS backup and restore (free in market)

but I'm out of ideas..
I was wondering if its possible to restore data like SMS Messages, WhatsApp Messages, Nova launcher settings etc. when switching from one ROM to another after doing a wipe to system and cache etc.
I am guessing that Titanium Backup serves this purpose? Do I basically click on each app in Titanium and perform a backup? And then restore it back after the ROM upgrade? Does Titanium only save the data of the app or the app itself? If the app itself as well, does it not cause issues when restoring to a different ROM?
whatsapp and nova, yes you definitely can.
sms messages. not sure with TiBu. i use SMS backup+ for that.
nova had its own backup option in the menu. And with titanium there is a batch backup option up in the right corner hit the icon that is a page with a check Mark. That will bring up the batch options then just choose one of the options under backup.be careful restoring system settings between different roms it almost always causes issues. Also I agree with sms backup+ for texts.

MMS Backup Restore works great for me to backup SMS and MMS messages and restore them on different ROMs.

however, SMS and MMS backup and restore is a new feature in Titanium Backup as well. So if you've already got that, might as well use it for SMS and MMS back-up in addition to apps.
Ti backup can backup and restore your SMS & MMS, call log and bookmarks if you go into Ti settings

I was using the Codename Android 3.4.1 ROM on my VZW Galaxy Nexus and wanted to update the ROM (now on version 3.8.0). I downloaded the zip files needed, did a Nandroid back up, wiped data, cache, and Delvik cache. Installed the new ROM, and everything was fine. I have Titanium Backup pro. I was restoring everything and there seemed to be no problems. After my text messages restored, I had an issue with any messaging apps. I use Handcent. I could sometimes view conversations, but the app would have problems if I tried to send anything. I was trying to reply to someone who had texted me while my phone was restoring. I waited until the restore was complete before getting back to them. Handcent freezes when I select a conversation or just start it up. When I try the stock messaging app, it say "Loading Conversations" but never moves past that. I tried restoring my Nandroid backup to before I flashed the new ROM, but I isn't restoring to the exact state from the time of the back up. It appears as though the damage is done. Any idea what could be happening here or how I could fix it?
Thanks
dont restore any data from a system app.
Been having a bit of a headache trying to sort this out on my Verizon G3. Here's what I've done:
1. Full backup of my 4.4.2 using TWRP to external SD card
2. Clean wipe internal storage
3. Flash Fulmics 6.0
4. Flash vs98535b bootstack (to get Verizon 4G)
5. Restore data from backup (not system or boot) - **The whole point of this vs. just starting from a fresh install is I'm trying to get back some important text messages. If there's a way to start with a fresh install and only restore old SMS and MMS text messages from a backup, I'm all ears. The app is Google's Messenger.
Problems faced when doing that:
1. Repeated "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped." every second after hitting OK. I can navigate around the phone, I just have to be quick to hit things before getting interrupted by the notification.
2. Still no 4G, or any cell service for that matter. Wifi still works.
Notes:
1. If I flash Fulmics 6.0 and the 35b bootstack, I get a perfectly working G3, but with none of the text messages I'm looking to restore from my last backup. Without the bootstack I don't have any cell service, similar to what was reported on XDA.
tl;dr - Repeated process com.android.phone has stopped after restore of data (no boot or system) from 4.4.2 install. Just trying to get back text messages onto Fulmics 6.0 install.
Any help is appreciated. If anyone needs any more info or logs, let me know and I could probably get them.
EDIT: Solved! Took a bit of time but I got it sorted out. Here were the steps I took if anyone searching on Reddit/Google is in need of a solution as well.
1. Restored the old 4.4.2 version and using Titanium Backup Pro, backed up both the messenger app as well as the SMS and MMS text messages using their export to XML feature under preferences. Exported both to my external SD card.
2. Once that process was done running, I did yet another clean wipe and installed Fulmics again. Once that was up and running, I installed Titanium Backup and Messenger and imported the backup of the app and the XML file.
3. This is where things got a bit buggy. After importing the XML file, it had only restored MMS (picture/video) messages for chats. There were no texts.
4. LG backup to the rescure! Upon installing Fulmics and importing the backup, I was asked by my phone if I wanted to restore from a previous backup. After seeing Titanium Backup only pulled in MMS, I figured why not. Let it run for a bit and boom...all MMS and SMS messages are restored.
5. Installed SMS Backup & Restore so I'll hopefully never have to deal with this again.

Can't you just restore your 4.4.2 backup, copy/backup the google messaging app & data with titanium, then restore your fulmics ROM, and restore the google messenger app with titanium backup? As long as you copy the data with the app all of your messages should be there when you restore it.
**Titanium also has a feature called "extract from nandroid backup" where you can pull an app from a TWRP backup so you don't have to waste time wiping & restoring a backup; although I'm not sure if that may be a pro(paid) feature or not.
On 4.4.2, can you backup texts with mybackup pro app?
Then restore from Fulmics MM?
Seems like it may work

The edit is great to know. I had no idea about that.
Currently doing what you mentioned with Titanium Backup Pro. Backing up the app itself, and exporting SMS and MMS with the XML (so many 3 letter acronyms!) export feature. Will report back when everything is done, but it's looking promising.

So you restored only SMS/MMS conversations?
If you did a full restore, it's obvious that device become unstable.
However... the issue sounds like a compatibility issue with 35B bootstack.
Personally I would suggest to directly flash latest firmware, then proceed with root + TWRP and Fulmics installation.
