[Q] Help with installation of Firmwares - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Problem:
ARC S - Stuck in Safe Mode
connected usb:
automatic boot in fastboot
back button isn't recognize for flashtool
Question:
is there another way to install firmwares without using FLASH TOOLS?

Flash a custom kernel, then install a ROM through the recovery.
It's that simple.
僕のLT18iから送られてきた

We need to know if you have an Unlocked bootloader, if you have a custom kernel installed at the moment, and if it's a custom rom that you want to flash.....
If your bootloader is unlocked and it's a custom rom you want then the menu button is the only one you need
Nathan

You might have a broken menu button which doesnt trigger properly, I had a waterdamaged phone with this issue a while ago and I fixed it by replacing the secondary board with microphone and buttons.

[Q] XPERIA Play won't start, shows flash mode evertime connected with USB

Hello,
my XPERIA Play is broken and I don't knwo how to fix it.
I've first unlocked the bootloader and then flashed Cyanogenmod 7.1 on it.
But the vibration doesn't have any function and so i flashed with flashtool the stock firmware witch I found in this forum. After that I've started OTA Updater and my phone shutted down. Now it won't start anymore, it vibrates shortly and if you hold the power button longer, it vibrates in dinstances.
When I connect the XPERIA with my computer (Windows 7) the green lights shining and my pc says that it's in flash mode. I can't change to Fastboot Mode.
I've flashed more than once firmwares on the phone, everything I've done couldn't fixe it..
Can anybody help me?

PS: I'm sorry for my bad english..

Well you can't get OTA updates when your bootloader is unlocked.Unfortunately I can't help much about the problems with the flash mode since I've never encountered such a problem. So sorry about that.
EDIT:When you try to update Via OTA your phone would surely get bricked because once your bootloader's unlocked SE doesn't consider your phone as warranted and certificates within the phone gets wiped because that would enable flashing 3rd party firmwares and kernels.
Sorry if I'm making this complicated.

I've relocked the bootloader, that wasn't the problem.
I could fix it with flashtool, I only had to flash the bootloader form the developer section and now everything works fine. I can also update with SEUS again (tested from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5)

[Q]About unlocking bootloader

I want to know if anyone here in the xperia play forum have unlocked bootloader, i want to know if i should use sony's way of unlocking it or if there's another way and what i want to know is, does clockworkmod unlock booltloader? and you need to unlock bootloader to flash custom roms?
what does clockwordmod do and what does rom manager do ?
i have more questions about bootloader but i cant remember at the moment so i'll add them as i remember
You can't
If Sony's way doesnt works for you and if you cant enter into fastboot mode (turn off device, conect usb cable while pressing search button and get a blue light on your led indicator) the only method is to pay someone to unock you.
I unlocked my bootloader with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1584312
but the promo is over :/
aight well the promo for that is over i'm gonna try sony's way of unlocking it n see if there method work
but how will i know if it worked, if it got unlocked

blue light when you press the search key and plug in the usb but please read the instructions carefully
i still need the answer for this question:
"does clockworkmod unlock booltloader? and you need to unlock bootloader to flash custom roms?
what does clockwordmod do and what does rom manager do?"
Clockworkmod doesn't unlock bootloader, you can install clockworkmod with the bootloader closed, whit this you can flash custom ROM's but only the ones for locked bootloader support (original kernel)
Clockworkmod is a recovery menu, you can do semi-advanced user tasks like format partitions or backup all your operative sistem's nand (nandroid), you can flash zips for tweaks, firmwares and mods, clear/wipe caches , battery stats.. etc
PD: Did you get Blue light (on power button LED) when you connect your USB cable to you turned off phone while pressing search button?

I mean ROM Manager isn't exactly reliable. I've read a few horror stories of completely bricked devices using that app.
If you need to install ClockworkMod I suggest CWM Auto Installer off the Play Store

i did this and i got the blue light but nothing else happens it jus shows on my pc something with found new hardware
Personally I'd use omnius. It keeps your drm keys.
Edit: if you already have fastboot (blue light, black screen, Android doesn't boot) then use the Sony method.

[Q] Xperia Arc won't boot after CWM crash

I am new at all this stuff but i think I'm starting to somehow get a hang of it. I rooted my phone this week running .587 by downgrading the kernel etc, you know. Today I wanted to try another rom so I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955248 To install Xperia Ultimate HD on my phone with a locked bootloader.
However during step 8 CWM shut down and started to boot. But it doesn't start and I'm unable to get back into CWM My computer won't recognise the phone so I can't flash the kernel or do a complete reset using SUS. What do I do? is it save:able?
Been doing flashtool ftf recoveries whenever this occured. Do not power on arc s with it stuck. let flashtool self boot to flash mode and you will be back in buisness again.

I assumed you have flashtool since you mention about kernel downgrade. if no get it installed
the step actually same as flashing the kernel with phone power off.

make sure in cwm before installation
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. go to mounts and storage menu and\
4. format /system
5. format/data
6. format cache
7. exit mounts and storage menu
6. go to advance
7. wipe dalvik cache
8. wipe battery stats
9. exit advance
10. install custom rom from sd card without rebooting
works every time for me
TRY THIS!

Thanks guys, really appreciate it, will try these methods out.

I tried doing all the different things you said but the phone won't boot holding in the back button and inserting the datacable. The light on the side turns green but nothing else happens.

Yeah, that I know and that's what I'm doing. When I hold down the back key and connect to the pc all that happens is that the green led lights up. Flashtool won't recognise it and it still says that I should hold down the back key and then connect to the PC...

I was also stuck at Sony logo and it reboots every time just after sony logo. Then i used flashtool, flashed using "LT15i_4.1.B.0.587_Kernel.ftf".....
Now it boot further, but only to XPERIA logo, and then reboots....but certain times i have seen it getting past the logo, like it shows a display asking for pc companion, even the taskbar too with time and blutooth icon on it....but all of a sudden it reboots. i have tried rebooting more than a 100 times, while taking out battery everytime.
Also, I'm not able to get into recovery mode. I tried this using the combination of power on, and when sony logo appears, pressing and releasing volume down repeatedly. I hope i'm doing right.
So what should I do?? am not able to use this phone for a week...
Please help me out.
Ok got it working. I just unlocked the boot loader from sony bootloader site(sorry couldn't post the link, because of low post count)
So, it booted up but show error as soon as put a sim, that "Unfortunately keypad has stopped working".
I figured out the culprit, it is the build version with i flash it. I reflashed it with LT15i_4.1.B.0.431_kernel.ftf, now it working fine like a charm.
So much relief...!!
Hope this may help someone too...so i shared!!!

[Q]Touchscreen, menu, back and search keys dead

Hello people,
I've got a problem on my phone. The touchscreen isn't working, the back key, the search key and the menu key aren't working anymore.
I don't know whats the problem, the software part of the phone seems to work (everytime I start the phone, I get into recovery (automatically, I don't know why)) I can flash zips and I can navigate trough the recovery using the home key and volume buttons or using the gamepad. I entered the key test, and I pressed the three keys there, but I didn't say anything. I also had some zips using aroma, and there, the touchscreen didnt work either.
Last time I used the phone, I did work well, but then I started an emulator and slided the gamepad out; at that moment the keys(only search at that moment I believe) and the touchscreen weren't working anymore. I restarted the phone, and now I can't boot into the rom, it always puts the phone in recovery.
I was using the MIUI Australia Rom by Cosmic that with the kernel which came with it. Once it didn't work anymore, I tried flashing another Rom or reflashing MIUI again, but naturally, that didn't help. I can't enter fastboot mode or flashmode, since the needed keys don't work.

Had this problem before but it was my home key that died. Could not enter flashmode either to flash back a stock ftf. How I solved it was doing an update with Sony Update Centre. All my problems had disappeared. Same thing happened ti another user on here a few months back, he solved it the same way I had.

With PC companion I'm pretty you don't need the OS all you do is hold back with the phone off and plug it in to a pc and wal-la it will walk you through the rest bit I think you need USB debugging on for it to do that though I'm not sure....I never used it

Broken xperia play?

Hi
I have an xperia play which I haven't touched in a while as the flex cable broke, but I have just replaced the flex cable and the screen works but there is one problem, the phone does not seem to want to boot into the system, meaning that I can't use the phone.
Here is a list of things I have tried based on research on the forums:
-Fastboot: Can't boot into it using key combos, can't boot into it from recovery either.
-Flashmode: Doesn't want to boot into it either
-Recovery: I am able to get to the recovery, but I can't do too much from there,
- I have tried flashing different roms with no effect
Any help would be appreciated

The kernel from what I remember is one of the ones from the (almighty) DoomLord.
So far, I got the problem half solved, I've managed to get a rom working on it with the help of a friend, it's a rom that me and him quickly built based on cyanogen mod I think, either way, the phone boots into the system now, touchscreen and all is working (I'm assuming that it is since I get none to little force closes).
The only problem I have no is that I still cannot get it to go to flash/fast boot, heck, I can't even use ADB USB debugging.
I have the drivers installed and all else working on my computer as I have tested ADB with my old note 2 and I checked the fast/flash boot using my xperia z and both have worked, but the xperia play just doesn't want to do anything, I'm thinking now that it could be a broken USB port and I could replace it since I have the part and tools to do it.

Fastboot - When you hold in your search button when device is powered off and you plug in your USB cable to a PC which is turned ON does your LED Light on the power button light blue?
Flashmode - When you hold in your home button when device is powered off and you plug in your USB cable to a PC which is turned ON does your LED Light on the power button light green?
If either of these apply you'd need to install the appropriate drivers for the Xperia Play.
