Wi-Fi tethering? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Sorry if this has been asked a million times.
I have the $70 T-Mobile unlimited plan. Now if I root my note 2, can I use an aftermarket tethering app, to take advantage of that true unlimited plan, without any grief from T-Mobile?

You should be able to. But I'm not on the $70 plan. I have a family plan from like 5 years ago & me tethering works fine. Just if the up sell comes up use a different user agent.

It's literally their best plan they have out right now. I have it in prepaid though. Anyone else know if any possible issues?

Well I suppose I'll have to give it a try when I get home. Is there a good way to root these days considering Knox? I don't necessarily want a custom Rom though.

I have a family member that just recently updated their phone to a note 2 on T-Mobile and said they are able to tether without paying extra for tethering. I got the note 2 on T-Mobile the day it came out and back then I still had to pay for tethering so I just rooted and installed a rom in which I can tethering for free. I use tethering every day without having to install a tethering app.

Thank you, haven't gotten around to rooting yet, but hopefully it'll work out.

Which Rom would be best for using my own tether without tmobile seeing? I'm already rooted now. Unlimited plan still. Also which tether app would be best?

I have been searching and searching. The treve mod, the mod after that. One that seems it's just for Sprint. I have no clue which freaking one is current and working on tmobile. I need Wi-Fi tether

TreveMod works beautifully for me. I am on Tweaked 2.5 and things are lovely.

I'd need to be on a custom Rom? Because I tried it on stock Rom with no luck.

It worked on all the stock 4.1.x rooted roms. I am sticking with Tweaked for a while until the kinks are worked out of the 4.3 stuff. I'm patient like that. I know it didn't work on my wife's S3 running 4.3.

Any suggestions on where I can go from here? I just basically need something to pay Xbox live

Try the new onmirom 4.4.2 ....I'm running it and have wifi tethering working perfectly fine. And its a pretty stable ROM

Which tethering app do you use? Does it take from the 2.5gb tmobile plan?

NONE. Tmobile is fully aware of the work arounds that people were doing in the past. They now monitor the data on their side and you will have to pay for it.
Tethering is FREE with a 5gig or larger plan now.

Does it require root? (If so I'll wait for foxfi or save up for SVTP because I can't afford to invalidate my warranty/insurance coverage)
Thanks!

Yea It requires root.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Root doesn't cause u to lose your insurance coverage. Only warranty. At least with Verizon. I just switched to tmobile but on Verizon I have sent many phones into insurance because of cracked screens and other things that were rommed and rooted and had no problems. That's what insurance is for. They don't care what u did to your phone
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Why not set your phone back to stock for warranty..
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I can't claim personal experience with the rooting process, nor with claiming insurance. I do have a lot of past experience with loading custom roms and radios on Windows Mobile, and while I hadn't heard many horror stories of warranty/insurance being denied due to such, most everyone did their best to return to stock when sending in their phones for such claims because running HSPL/custom ROMs was a contractual no-no and something support would often ask about.
Because I cannot afford another phone, much less a SGS3, and my previous phones are completely obsolete*, I dare not tempt myself with anything that has the least chance of bricking my S3. SVTP is looking like a relative bargain for when I eventually require a hotspot. (*Before anyone mentions it, yes, I do know that the HD2 runs ICS just fine. Probably JB by now too. I just haven't been impressed by the Android builds for it.)
my phone is not rooted. do i need to be? i seen people do it without rooting.

David- You could pay for a tethering plan from Tmobile, then you won't need root.
I have been successful with foxfi tethering to my nexus 7 over bluetooth with no root.

How to tether on Verizon on jb leak

When I first got phone, I was pissed cause I lost unlimited data but, I figured, at least I could tether now! I installed foxfi and was tethering in minutes....it was awesome
Now I'm on jb leak and rooted, and NONE of the apps work...
So I searched and found a solution!

Now I'm tethered and typing from a pool house in my development where I'm studying!
So psyched.....I'm really gonna put my 2gb limit to the test now! LOL

what are actual data speeds you're seeing? this is one thing that makes me nervous about upgrading. I have unlimited data, on my bionic I can get 24 Mbps down on my pc tethered when I use the built in tethering app, but have never seen comparable data speeds through a third party tethering app.
