[Q] Samsung /Sprint Bloatware - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I have rooted and installed MOAR 7.01 on both mine and my wife's Sprint GS3. Her's is a newer phone and it is not working like mine after the flash.
When I installed the ROM on my phone none of the Sprint or Samsung bloatware installed, everything was great
When I do my wife's phone it all seems to show up again when the phone restores it's Google account info. I have re-flashed 3 times (she's starting to get pissed at me)
Before flashing the ROM I wiped everything. As I said I didn't have any problems with my phone.
Am I doing something wrong? I would post this in the development area but I don't have enough posts yet
Thanks Randy

When you restore the Google account on her phone, make sure you don't check the box that says, " bring over all previous Google settings" or something like that.

Thanks for the quick reply. That did it. Just a pain to have to restore all the apps individually. Next time I restore though it will be just right.

No problem. That's the way I always do it. This way, you can choose exactly which apps you want back. Good luck

Thanks

Request for Virgin Mobile Stock

Hello all,
So I bought my HTC Wildfire S Virgin Mobile on black friday like everybody else. I waited a few days and then rooted. And then I had the brilliant idea to try installing the CM 7.1 Mod for it. And well, I didn't do a Clockwork Backup, and well, it didnt work very well. The phone got stuck on the HTC screen. So finally I installed a different ROM, JikantaruROM, and I managed to get past the bootscreen but I can't use my carrier anymore. So I was wondering if anybody could either tell me how to flash CM 7.1 Unoffical release to my phone, or if anybody knew a way I could get back to the original Virgin Mobile software. It seems that you have all the other stock roms, so I would REALLY appreciate if someone could share the Virgin Mobile rom too.
Thanks in advance,
Wieland959
Seconded. Although I think mine is in a slightly worse case; I kept flashing roms and ended up in a state where it turns on, screen remains black, then the phone vibrates three times and evidently does nothing. So Wieland959, I'd advise you to stop flashing until someone posts the ROM.
And if someone could let me know how to recover from my current state, I'd very much appreciate it.

Your in the same boat I was just in. My solution was to go back to radioshack with the receipt and tell them it just turned off and wouldnt turn back on. Just doing the 3 vibrations. I did spend hours trying to search about how to fix it, but I dont think theres a way unless you use a jtag hookup and some sort of fancy programmer.
@Wieland959, If you want. I just tried to do the OTA update through the settings on the phone itself. It would let me download the file(I believe it should be flashable through the cwm recovery), but when I tried to let the phone install the file, I would get the android with the exclamation mark after the reboot. Ill try to post here, if it will upload. But......
DISCLAIMER!!!!
I take no responsibility for anyone damaging their phone using the file here. This file, as far as I know, should only work with the Wildfire S Virgin Mobile USA CDMA model A510C as this is the phone the file was downloaded from.
Thank you for the file, but I couldn't flash it. What might work though, if you are willing is, if you have rooted your phone, to make a cwm backup and upload that here. From there I should be able to recover and then factory wipe my phone. But thank you anyways for the file. I will keep kicking until the phone doesn't boot.
How are you planning on restoring from backup if the phone doesn't even boot?
Sorry, I'm new to this...

from the recovery, by holding down the vol down button and power button. then select recovery.
also, im in the same boat as OP haha
Okay. I managed to boot my phone and am able to send/receive texts. The rom I used? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367701] It seems to work pretty well. However, I would still like to have the original rom if someone could still upload it.
VM USA Stock Clockwork Backup
Well, I don't know much about stuff like this, but here is my clockwork mod recovery backup. It's just the stock VM USA w/HTC Sense. I have realized that I deleted the bloatware, so that's the only thing that isn't 100% stock. Hope it helps.
*Unzip the file before placing on you sd card. (Contains the clockwork folder, which contains the backup folder, and then the folder that contains the backup itself.)*

Is this a good rom? I'm looking for some senseless roms that will work with our version of the WFS. will you post if you are able to go back to the Stock Virgin backup that I have posted? Also how much memory is on the rom that you posted?
With the a2sd enabled, you get 150 to 175. It's nice.

Nevermind I figured out the problem. Ok. Just one question is there anyway I can get the nice clock back from the stock ROM?
Is anybody else having mms issues with the experimental ROM?

Thanks for the backup! It worked perfect for me!
would you mind if i posted the link on another forum? i know of a couple people looking for a backup aswell.
You should be able to switch back with the recovery no problem. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to install boot into recovery, install from SD, select specific, and select the zip of the rom. Also, I don't have my phone on me so the wording might be a little different.
MMS is a known issue with the rom from what I've read. I don't have it installed personally.
@brandonhun, Thank you so much. You're a life saver. As far as the rom goes, it still have sense on it and there are tons of MMS errors. So just wait and eventually something will pop up.

I haven't done this ROM change but if its the stock HTC Sense go to personalize and get HTC widgets (perhaps its get more HTC widgets) and you should find an update to the clock widget. That should give you the original clock plus a bunch more new ones.

[Q] Trouble with OTA, can't find answer anywhere

Howdy all,
This here is my first post, and I'm pretty new to the android world as I just recently switched from the iphone to the GS3.
I have my phone rooted and had CWM installed, and some of the bloatware apps disabled. I tried to get the latest OTA from ATT and it wouldn't install with CWM. I went back to the stock recovery and re-ran the update. It got about 31% into the update and stopped, restarted, and said the update was interrupted. Then I tried the newest CWM (6. whatever) and that didn't work either. I've also enabled all the bloatware. Lastly, I tried Kies and it says that my phone is up to date even though I know the update was not applied.
I've searched high and low for the answer to this and can't find anything. I'm at the point where, since I'm new to the android scene, I'd like to get my phone back to the factory settings (unrooted and such) but I can't even find clear instructions on how to do that, either.
I'm used to the ease of jailbreaking the iphone, then restoring it via itunes whenever needed, but it seems that it may not be that simple with the GS3.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Maybe this thread will help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896773
Thanks! I'd still like to know how to restore to complete factory.
The ota is failing because of the frozen bloatware. There's a guide I wrote in the general section explaining how to go from rooted stock to rooted ota.

I was able to apply the OTA with bloatware frozen. It will fail if it's been removed, but freezing (through Titianium Backup) didn't break the process for me.

Download the unrooted, completely stock LG1 image from here: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SGH-I747
Flash that with Odin, then boot and install the OTA as normal. In the end, you'll be at LH9 completely stock, with the stock recovery and no root. If that's really what you want.

thank you so much. honestly, right now i think i should learn more about android and everything before i start really messing with it. it seems a lot different and, perhaps, more complicated and delicate than just jailbreaking an iphone, and right now, i just want a fully working phone that i don't need to worry about.
i really appreciate your help. thank you.
also, i never had any bloatware frozen except from the disable action in the application manager, it still never worked. thanks to everyone else who replied with some assistance.
UPDATE: I followed your directions, and went to check the ABOUT section of the phone. It still says my kernel is a USER one. My wife's un-messed-with GS3 does not say that. I think I may have missed something.

First, Odin flash CWM on the new phone. Make sure both phones have the same recovery. Make a nandroid backup on your old phone, be sure you save it to your external! Take out old SD card and place it on your new phone. Restore that nandroid on your new phone, your good!!

No, if you mean like settings and stuff you will have to re-imput those. You will also have to root the new phone, which doesn't take much longer than 10 min. I have found this method to be the easiest and safest. Just follow the video step-by-step and you will be fine. http://galaxys2root.com/t-mobile-galaxy-s2/how-to-root-icsgb-on-t-mobile-galaxy-s2-sgh-t989/

How to Force the OTA?

I feel like a moron because mine hasn't updated automatically from 4.4.4. Any way to force the Lollipop update? I already checked and have the 24 wait period in effect. Thanks!
Happened to me as well. Go into settings, time and date, uncheck the automatic date/time function and move the date 1 day ahead. I would reboot the phone just in case, and check it again.

Weird - just did all that and it still says software is up to date. Any other suggestions?
Called AT&T to see if they could push Lollipop to my device. No dice. Tried the "move ahead one calendar day" trick, but it didn't work. Now it shows that I can't check again for 702 hours. Ha! Any other suggestions? Maybe it just hadn't rolled out to everyone yet. I'm in Chicago, if that matters.
If you don't have an issue wiping your data then you can use the stock Odin file in the general sub to flash it back to stock and update again.
I had my wife's phone updated with a push from AT&T. She had the same issue. They have to file a ti let and tech department did it but took a few days.

I haven't really messed around with root stuff in a while, but I know even without root we used to be able to download the update, put it in the root or the SD card and rename it update.zip . Does this not work anymore? I really thought there would be a way to force the update somehow..

That would work if someone has captured the zip file or the download URL, which no one has done. Virtually every 5.0.1 related thread has someone asking for this, with the same response. No one has it, and if they did, it would be available in a stickied post.
Oh the woes of waiting for updates lol.
I remember with my OG moto droid waiting for 2.1 lol.
And how 2.2 blew my mind. Now look at it.
i had to flash oem kitkat to my att note 4, which right after the flash immediately got lollipop.
if you do got to the Samsung kiosk have them re-flash kitkat. then the download for lollipop will update after setup.
Force update to marshmallow?
Hi, absolute idiot when it comes to stuff like this.
So, i was searching through my apps list when i noticed AT&T software update.
I dont need any AT&T applications as i am in Australia and do not have AT&T.
i have tried to force an update by following the clearing data and force stopping the Google services frame work.
tried it multiple times, nothing.
Then i thought i could disable the app of the AT&T software update, and then i fell deeper into the rabbit hole of how OSPolice got in trouble and how there is 2 versions of package disabler pro.
So here i am, stuck with 5.1.1 and i have no idea what to do.
No, i am not going to root it. This is an AT&T phone, with a bootlocker on it. If anyone, *ANYONE*, can help me solve this small issue that would be much appreciated.

It doesn't work for me yet. did you enter download mode before connecting to Kies? what version of Kies do you have? mine is 3.2.15041_2
I entered download mode when it asked me to. Also Kies 3.2
I also got that message, but it will go through anyways. At least it did for me. I left that message in the background till it finished.
Initial Update when you Open Box is Included in this method
I just noticed that the update you get when you first turn on your phone is pre-built into this update method. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that my phone feels blazing fast now as opposed to when I first got it. And, it's not near as HOT as it was.
Here is my current version for comparison. Not sure if it's the same as that updated file we got when first turned on as I didn't make a note of the version numbers.
Just curious, was the phone staying awake at all times after you rooted it? Mine is, and I noticed today after my second Edge came in that rooting appears to be the cause.

No, but I did find the battery life to be HORRIBLE! Now, with this Firmware Recovery, the battery is lasting longer than it has since I got it. I'm finally really enjoying the phone. When it was new, battery life was very dismal and it got really hot regularly. Now it feels like a normal phone, but FAST.
Yep, my battery life was horrible after rooting as well - I found out and now I'm almost 100% positive that when you root it the system doesn't deep sleep properly. I was able to confirm on a second phone that it does deep sleep at all times up until rooting. Afterwards it just refuses to enter deep sleep.
good to see a restore works, but I don't think I will root until TWRP comes out for this guy.
phone is running just fine now..
My device won't boot even with the 920 root method. And kids says my serial n is no good?
Tell your kids to mind their own business.
Hehe, just kidding.
What serial are you using? It needs to be the one from Settings/About/Status near the bottom of that screen. Try again, making sure you've got model and serial exact. I had it complain on me a couple times. Was a mistype on my part. Not sure if case matters, but maybe try all upper case.

nice work :good:
Hi there,
I finished the process "Software Update and Initialization" via SS but my it looks like my phone has the same settings and apps as before and was not "wiped" or initialised to factory.
Does this mean it actually was not successful or did the process actually automatically restore my backup while I looked away?
The phone definitely seems snappier though ...
Thx

I finished the process "Software Update and Initialization" via SS but my it looks like my phone has the same settings and apps as before and was not "wiped" or initialised to factory.
Does this mean it actually was not successful or did the process actually automatically restore my backup while I looked away?
The phone definitely seems snappier though ...
Thx
Ken
