Get a generic Android OTG cable (very cheap from eBay). Use it to connect directly to your camera. If that doesn't work, for some reason, use the OTG cable with an adapter that will allow a Compact Flash card to plug into a USB port.
ok, thank you, i'll try this :good:

If you have't used an OTG cable before, here's how it will work. When you plug in the camera or a compact flash card adapter, the files will appear under /storage/USBstorage (or USBstorage2 , 3, etc.). At that point, you can copy files to or from the connected device using any file manager app.

Thanks for this too! Never used OTG and I'm planning to do so for the sam reasons. You saved me a search
Do you need to be rooted to do this? I have the GPe and when I connect a flash drive with my OTG cable it doesn't read at all. Even checked in my for manager and it doesn't pop up.

OTG doesn't work on a GPE. You'll need an app to make it work.

Any idea which app will work with a OTG Card Reader? I have managed to get an OTG cable and USB stick to work with Total Commander USB app, but doesn't work with the card reader. Thanks

It should automatically prompt you to view internal and external sd cards on your pc. Are you rooted?

i have this problem on XP sometimes too, even with the drivers installed.
Try changing it from MTP to PTP. Let the computer find it again, then switch it back to MTP. Works for me every time

and to answer your question, i am not rooted. DO I HAVE TO BE ROOTED TO VIEW FILES ON THE SD CARD ON MY PC VIA USB? please help because i'm on the verge on stomping on this galaxy s3. thanks,
You don't need root to view files in your phone. Did you put an SD card in there?

i seriously dont want to use airdroid.. i need to move heavy files and i dont want to spend years by my PC waiting for my phone to finish transferring files over the air.. i want to be able to see my sd card via usb.
thanks for the encouragement.. i know i'll get a solution with your help..
Fair enough. What if you do install windows media player 11 and see what that does?
Sent from my SGH-T999
Um the sdcard can only write at about say max 80Mbps sustained. WLAN will be fast enough at 40.. what is USB2.0?
Anyways if you are putting lots of files, leave them on external, and don't have to worry about copying again. No good reason to have then on sdcard vs external.
You can just copy to ext then use any file mgr program to copy it using the phone.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I use N so it's 100mbps and fast enough to not notice any difference. I'm guessing your problem is that XP is old as F. A simple solution is to just plug the sd card into your computer. But as it was pointed out the sd card is slower than wifi so it really doesn't matter.
Oh and I'd just like to point out you could have moved the files 10000 times by now. With airdroid you can move around the house while files are transferring. So you can relax and still use the phone instead of being tethered to the computer. And if you have splashtop you'd never even have to touch your PC.
Put Linux on a flash drive and use that?
Hello,
I cannot get my USB Host Mode to work on my Note II... I have tried various ROM's/Kernel combo's, and the apps you can get in the play store. (USB Host Controller). I've also tried lots of devices, and provided the external power when it was needed. When I got this phone I wanted the stock ROM of it, and didn't even try the USB Host mode. All the ROM I've tested have been stock based, that shouldn't be the issue.
I know the USB-OTG adapter works because I've tried it on other phones, with the same devices I can't get to work on my own phone.
My Rom is CleanROM Ace 4.9, which is latest. Kernel is SaberKernel_23, also latest.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Maniac
Not much experience with it but I use 'stickmount' and can see USB storage with my dongle.
I'm with Telus and also using cleanrom 4.9 the below app worked for me

What kernel are you running? USB-OTG functionality must be enabled in the kernel. I'm running Adam.Kernel v2.5 (for N7105/I317) and when I connect my flash drive to phone (via USB-OTG cable) you should see two messages in the top notification area: "USB connector connected" then "USB mass storage connected". Then open your favorite file manager and you should see another storage device "UsbDriveA" (the other two of course are "sdcard0" (internal) and "extSdCard" (external). When you click on "UsbDriveA" you should see the files on your flash drive. Two things to check: does your kernel support USB-OTG? (I'm pretty sure when I was on the CleanROM v4.9 (N7105XXDMC3) kernel, it also worked. Second thing to check is the cable... I see you mentioned it works on other devices, but I had same problem. Bought another USB-OTG approved cable (less than 6 bucks) and it worked flawlessly on the Note2.
By the way, there is a bug in the 4.1.2 firmware when you disconnect the cable from phone (even using the drop down notification and selecting "USB mass storage.. Select to remove...." your phone won't deep-sleep again unless you reboot (leaves a partial wakelock called "USB Unmounter" (something like that). However, when ready to disconnect cable, do it this way "Menu--> System Settings --> Storage --> and scroll down to "USB OTG storage"... then select "Unmount USB OTG storage". This will safely unmount usb cable storage and allow phone to deep-sleep again without rebooting. Hope this helps.

dear paranoid android users and developers,
I've made a fresh (and clean) install of newest BETA 4 on my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 (Wi-Fi) and encountered a small problem... I cannot seem to get StickMount to work... none of my pendrives that worked on previous versions (the ones before SuperSU was switched to Superuser) seem to show up in any file explorers...
also, when I ran the USB Host Diagnostics, I got a result in the Root API section: N/A... therefore, I'm thinking something is not right on the Superuser side...
I would be oh so thankful if someone could help with coming up with a solution! :fingers-crossed:
P.S. I'm posting a screenshot of the USB Host Diagnostics as attachment. the same result shows up on Nexus 5.
try USB OTG Helper
I don't know if it will work but its what I used when I was on a different ROM, I'll check later and see if it still works.
hmm, will look into it and see if anything changes...

On which device did You manage to do it? And with help of 3rd party apps, or just with the system in its own?
Also... Stock kernel or custom one?
Cheers!
Htc one x. Custom kernel but the kernel doesn't do anything for otg. And only used USB OtG Helper. Just plug the OTG cable and the USB device in and then open otg helper then plug the otg cable into the phone and wait a few seconds and then mount.

on GNexus, with PA Beta4, stock kernel: it works from the start, without 3-party apps.
the only thing it doesn't work is when I unmount (from "settings>storage": is there any other way to do it?) it keeps a permanent notification saying "Removed USB storage. Insert new media" that won't go away. Eventually it does, don't know how, why and when.
cheers
Nexus 5, PA Beta 4, stock kernel.
OTG works flawlessy, from the settings I can mount and unmount it.

USB OTG is a very useful feature. It allows you to connect your pen drives to your phone by a OTG Cable. It is now supported on many SoCs(even on Mtk) but due to some reasons(I don't know them) the OEM disables it, but USB OTG feature can be enabled in a very simple and easy steps in an rooted android Phone whose SoC support OTG but is disabled by the OEM. For this you have to :
i. Root Your Phone
ii. Download USB OTG Helper
iii. Read This post
First of all make a backup of all your stuffs. Then download USB OTG HELPER https://play.google.com/store/apps/...er&pcampaignid=APPU_1_VJL1VKPVK4qHuATPkYDwCw from the play store.
Then open the app and click on Mount
Open any file manager(I recommend ES) and go to /storage/usbotgdrive/drive/here. Voila you can access all the files
[NOTE]. This app will work on only those phones whose SoC has USB OTG by default but the OEM has disable it. I have successfully used it on Canvas Unite 2 and Canvas HD
PS Give me a thank

Hi guys, I'm just new here. I have a problem with my Zenfone 2
I'm trying to backup the files of my data manually to my PC but after like a minute of transferring files, it auto-cancels. Is this a problem with the Zenfone 2 or the PC?
Debugging mode is turned on and I even tried using Share Link but it still auto-cancels when it copies some files. I need to backup because I plan on installing CM 12.1
Make sure it never gets moved while copying, maybe also try another cable or USB port.
check your cable or the connector, it seem to be the intermittent connection you are having.
nothing about the software.
mine happen to cancel too, when i use one of the usb port of my pc.

Copy to sdcard, then put in a card reader, copy to pc. profit.
